[Bug 1771223] Re: Cannot connect to L2TP network
There firewall is ok. But I found that something got messed up when trying to connect to the VPN from inside our office. The VPN should be used outside the office of course, but I just wanted to test it. I don't know why, but it started working after doing "apt purge --auto-remove network-manager-l2tp* strongswan* xl2tpd && apt install network-manager-l2tp network-manager-l2tp-gnome" and then NOT connect from inside our office. [Bug 1771345] Re: lscpu possible crash in min/max frequency
** Description changed: - The following fixes are in 2.32 and also need to be backported to - bionic, artful, and xenial: + [Impact] + lscpu prior to 2.32 does not correctly check for NULL members in min/max CPU frequency arrays and can call atof() on them, leading to crashes. It seems that's what caused the verification to fail for bug 1732865. The following fixes have been committed upstream: - https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/commit/0145d84a381fc2fcd7d37e0dbf3d9dff69609ecd - https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/commit/95f09bc63c564c50ec2c393352801cc056faaea2 + from 2.30: https://github.com/karelzak/util- + linux/commit/0145d84a381fc2fcd7d37e0dbf3d9dff69609ecd - This should also fix the crash in bug 1732865 + from 2.32: https://github.com/karelzak/util- + linux/commit/95f09bc63c564c50ec2c393352801cc056faaea2 + + I plan to backport them to xenial (both patches); and artful, bionic + (second patch, they are > 2.30). + + [Regression potential] + The worst possible regression is that lscpu would fail to correctly report min/max frequencies, but it seems unlikely, as we're only adding checks against null pointers / move an atof into a loop. + + [Test case] + I'm afraid I don't have a test case, the bugs only manifest on some CPUs, and I don't know which. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771345 Title: lscpu possible crash in min/max frequency To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1771345/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1771524] Re: Merge newer dovecot for Cosmic
ML Discussions: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2018-March/040264.html https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2018-May/040324.html I already answered, but I can't find it in the archive - so I quote my mail here to be sure: Hi Phillip, Serge and Mark, I appreciate community interest in this - but from what I heard so far you'd be just as good with an out of tree solution not part of the actual (dovecot) packaging right? The current mail-stack-delivery does modify config files for you, so you could drive the same via e.g. a github project just as Mark does with his mail server he mentioned. If it finds a lot of followers it might become a next mail-in-a-box - and if not it is fine as well - a community is meant to live and try out things. If you want you can start with what today's mail-stack-delivery does, but I think this is not required (maybe better from scratch). @Phillip/Serge: I don't know if you'd prefer a github project or similar that just provides a bit of scripting or if you explicitly want to maintain it as a package? I'd think it is not needed, but I'm fine with the latter as well, but in that case I'd still want to take it out of the dovecot package this cycle and you can then push it as a universe community package (or as a snap) separate to that. This would simplify the doveot packaging, but not prevent you from maintaining the same the way you want - so would that be ok for you as well? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771524 Title: Merge newer dovecot for Cosmic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dovecot/+bug/1771524/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1771525] [NEW] Scanner not detected if plugged once Kubuntu 18.04 is running
Public bug reported: In Kubuntu 16.04 the scanners were detected by Xsane or other scan programs as soon as it were plugged in. Also, if you unplugged it then plugged in again also Xsane detected it immediately. But in Kubuntu 18.04 the scanner is not detected by Xsane if you plug in once Kubuntu 18.04 already running. Only it's detected if you starts session with the scanner already plugged in. [Bug 1771329] Re: Can't open apps due to Too many open files
Thanks @dino99. I've seen a lot of different suggestions for tackling this error, so it would be good to understand exactly which config change is the critical one. I think this is a major bug on a newly installed system. As an Ubuntu Desktop user I shouldn't be experiencing an issue where the OS stops me from launching any new app once I have a few apps open. I shouldn't need to go hunting through logs to and start googling for a solution, then modify open file limits, just to run a handful of desktop applications. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771329 Title: Can't open apps due to Too many open files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/1771329/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1771273] Re: Gnome-shell crashes when wake up after updated to 3.28.1-0ubuntu2
Hi Daniel, after read through your suggestion, I found some problem. I'm actually using Wayland, so that shouldn't be a Xorg crash, right? And in the /etc/gdm3/custom.conf, I saw this: # Uncomment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg # WaylandEnabled=false So does that mean during my usage of my system, I've never activated the Xorg server? ADDENDUM to #129: Ah! Success! I followed the advice of comment #28 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane- backends/+bug/1728012/comments/28), and it works !!! Did the following: $ sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane Then: 1. Removed the "usb 0x04b8 0x0137" entry I had added to /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf 2. Added a 55-epson-libsane.rules file to /etc/udev/rules.d/ with the following text: SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", MODE=="0666" SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", MODE=="0666" ATTRS{manufacturer}=="EPSON", DRIVERS=="usb", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04b8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="*", MODE="0666" ATTRS{idVendor}=="04b8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0137", MODE="0666", GROUP="scanner", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes" Finally I unplugged / plugged my scanner and tried: $ scanimage -L And got this encouraging answer: device `epkowa:interpreter:003:011' is a Epson GT-S50 flatbed scanner Then I started iscan (Image Scan!) and it immediately detected my scanner. I then could successfully scan a page. The workaround is thus effective! [Bug 1771511] [NEW] Desktop lockdown vanished
Public bug reported: In 14.04 and 16.04, as desktop lockdown ("kiosk mode") we disabled the gsetting "org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons". Nautilus then disabled the context menu when a user right clicks on the background and didn't show any icons, but still showed the wallpaper - nice! I tested this with nautilus 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6 and earlier. In 18.04 (tested version 1:3.26.3-0ubuntu4), this flag is not honored, any more. After source code inspection, I saw, the nautilus-desktop is always started in mode "--forced" which ignores this flag, completely. Then I tried to remove the option "--forced" from nautilus- classic.desktop, but nautilus-desktop didn't start, the whole session didn't start (I think this is lp bug #1633826). What can I do to get the desktop locking, again? Thanks for your help. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771511 Title: Desktop lockdown vanished To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1771511/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
