[Bug 1775777] [NEW] allow /dev/vfio/vfio in general

2018-06-08 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

VFIO is currently leaving an edge case that can kill PCI Hotplug.

There are these things in place:
1. if a guest spec has a hostdev it will add
 /dev/vfio/vfio
 /dev/vfio/[0-9]*
   This works fine
2. If a device is hotplugged the custom vfio addr is resolved and added
   to the per-guest profile as per-device entry like
 "/dev/vfio/162" rwk
   This works fine and is even better since at this time it can deternine just
the device it needs

But #2 needs /dev/vfio/vfio access before knowing any of that.
That leads to the case that if one has one hostdev, he can plug more and be
fine.
But without any hostdev in the initial description the guest will not be
allowed to access /dev/vfio/vfio which is needs to determine the indifidual
entry.

Due to that it completely fails and it can't be hotplugged.

Per https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/vfio.txt the base
/dev/vfio/vfio is safe and is not an attach vector. So we should allow
/dev/vfio/vfio in general.

[Bug 1775785] [NEW] bfg-repo-cleaner jar file is not compatible with OpenJDK's `jexec`

2018-06-08 Thread 林博仁
Public bug reported:

In Debian systems that install OpenJDK, they seem to be setting up jexec
as the binfmt interpreter of launching JAR files
(/usr/share/binfmts/jar). However when attempting to run BFG's jar file
using jexec it fails with "invalid file (bad magic number): Exec format
error" error message.

Refer to the discussion at bfg-repo-cleaner upstream, it seems to be that the
`jexec` check is too strict or something:
https://github.com/rtyley/bfg-repo-cleaner/issues/279

Also according to the OpenJDK upstream's JDK6 bug report, `jexec` seems to be
never be directly executed by external programs:
https://bugs.java.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6401361

[Bug 1762205] Re: GNOME boxes fails to start virtual os

2018-06-08 Thread Stephen Matin
Had same issue fixed it with @JT fix but I had to install libvirt first

`sudo apt install qemu-kvm libvirt-bin`
Add group=kvm in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf
Add yourself to the kvm group `sudo usermod -a -G kvm $USER`

I rebooted for good measure and now vm's start up

2018-06-08 Thread Paulo Marcel Coelho Aragão
Thanks for the swift feedback. I had tried to run:

ubuntu-bug /var/crash/FILE.crash

but it complained of lack of permission. I wasn't aware of the
workaround of bug #994921. As soon as I get another crash, I'll follow
your instructions.

[Bug 1775593] Re: X server crashes with SIGBUS when resuming from suspend

2018-06-08 Thread Paulo Marcel Coelho Aragão
Dummy me, forgive me: I still had the crash file around, it was just a
question of giving read permission to everyone (since it was only
readable by root and group whoopsie), and running ubuntu-bug over it.

So, after changing problem_types in /etc/apport/crashdb.conf to:

'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package', 'Crash'],

and running:

ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.0.crash

The new bug is bug #1775790.

2018-06-08 Thread yanh...@vmware.com
Hi Christian,

I have tested more than 5 times today and everything is OK.:p

But I encountered it all 3 times last week.

The only difference I know is the ESXi Host Server version, because we
updated it every week.

Since it's OK, please kindly close this bug.

Thanks!

[Bug 1775794] [NEW] Drop screenshot placeholder area

2018-06-08 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Upstream gnome-software is targeted solely at graphical applications. So
the app view has a large “No screenshots” placeholder, to encourage the
publisher to upload screenshots.

In Ubuntu the balance is different. gnome-software displays snaps as
well as .debs. And many snaps have only a command-line interface, or (in
the case of daemons) no user interface at all. It is still *possible* to
upload relevant graphics, for example a screenshot of a terminal, or
even a diagram. But it is much less likely, and those kinds of
developers are also less willing and able to do so.

Therefore, the Ubuntu version of gnome-software should omit the “No
screenshots” placeholder.

[This was discussed in the gnome-software design sprint.]

[Bug 1174162] Re: chrome-browser makes gnome-keyring-daemon use 100% cpu

2018-06-08 Thread Jan Smith
I am seeing this and not an irccloud.com user.
On my 18.04 system with latest updates installed as of today,
gnome-keyring-daemon used up about 75-100% of CPU for more than 5 minutes (with
one chrome window open that had 6 tabs restored).

As I started to suspect of the kernel i915 modesetting driver, yesterday
I put a workaround in place, not sure if it will have any effect. I
created /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-intel.conf:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

[Bug 1775798] [NEW] Inappropriately uses Snapcraft icon when snap is missing an icon

2018-06-08 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

When a snap does not have an icon, gnome-software uses the Snapcraft
logo as a substitute.

This is not a good idea, because:
- It gives the Snapcraft logo an association of “something is missing”.
- It gives the Snapcraft logo an association with a snap that might be terrible.

What should happen: Snaps without icons should have a generic icon that
does not include the Snapcraft logo.

(The snapcraft.io equivalent is .)

[Bug 1775807] [NEW] Some test for ubuntu_lxc are missing in Bionic

Public bug reported:

We're fetching the test from the upstream repo [1] because the lxc-test
package is no longer exist in Bionic (bug 1758255)

Not all the test binaries were pre-built there.
Compare the test result from Artful, there are 39 tests shipped by the

It's better to use the binary after building them from the upstream repo

[Bug 1773449] Re: VM rbd backed block devices inconsistent after unexpected host outage

2018-06-08 Thread James Page
OK figured this one out - the cephx keys are missing a permission which
allows them to see blacklisted clients - as a result they can't deal
with a hard crash:

  mon 'allow command "osd blacklist"'

This is a charm issue after all.

As a workaround you can manually update the existing client keys for
nova-compute using:

  sudo ceph auth caps client.nova-compute mon 'allow r, allow command
"osd blacklist"' osd 'allow rwx'

from any mon unit.

[Bug 1617022] Re: box width not resized for pam messages

2018-06-08 Thread nand
This bug affects us too. We tried working around the issue by switching
to a locale which provides timestamps in a shorter format by default
(e.g. DD.MM.YY) so it would still fit into the greeter box, but
apparently simply overriding $LANG and $LC_TIME is not enough to affect
the PAM messages.

[Bug 1772236] Re: rabbit died and everything else died

2018-06-08 Thread Iain Lane
Worth noting that we ran for many months before hitting this, and then:

ubuntu@juju-prod-ues-proposed-migration-machine-1:~$ dmesg -T | grep "Out of
memory: Kill" | uniq
[Wed May 9 16:06:23 2018] Out of memory: Kill process 1408 (beam) score 215 or
sacrifice child
[Sun May 20 03:58:24 2018] Out of memory: Kill process 19495 (beam) score 437
or sacrifice child
[Fri Jun 1 02:28:15 2018] Out of memory: Kill process 6569 (beam) score 428 or
sacrifice child
[Fri Jun 8 05:37:54 2018] Out of memory: Kill process 1142 (beam) score 434 or
sacrifice child

4 times in a month.

One thing that happened "sort of" around this time is

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/erlang/1:18.3-dfsg-1ubuntu3.1

but I have a vague correlation here, no causation.

Does seem like rabbit's memory usage grows over time until it's
eventually killed.

```
dirmngr manpage makes me think that `http_proxy` env var is ignored by
default and I need to explicitly add `honor-http-proxy` option to
dirmngr, but the problem is that apt-key creates the homedir with a
random name so I can't use any system-wide setting.
I know I can work this around with `--keyserver-options http-
proxy=http://1.2.3.4:3128/` but this is not what I should do, the system
should take care itself.
This is really a pain-in-the-ass issue for in-corporate-network
automation developers; we just need to use standard tools for adding apt
repositories, not working this around.
It looks like bug 1473231 hasn't been addressed. It needs forwarding
upstream and/or adding/maintaining as a delta to Ubuntu.
[Bug 1459692] Re: [MIR] anope
2018-06-08 Thread Robie Basak
The Apparmor profile bug remains open in Debian. It looks like it's
feasible to drive that to resolution in Debian. Failing that the
security team will probably ask for it to be included in a delta in
Ubuntu.
In general the packaging looks to be good quality. I can look more
thoroughly later, but I think it's likely that I won't have any
objection to main inclusion in Ubuntu once the few minor things have
been addressed. I think it makes sense to request a security review
next, as that's the biggest question mark for this package as it's
particularly security sensitive.
[Bug 1483101] Re: Broadcom bluetooth modules sometimes fail to initialize
2018-06-08 Thread Jesse Sung
@jason108:
This patch has been landed in upstream since 4.11, so, yes, we have it
in bionic.
>From the log in askubuntu, there's a line:
"[   31.964068] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: Patch command 0a0a failed (-110)"
This indicates that something goes wrong when the driver is sending firmware to
the module. It is different from the bug we have here.
[Bug 1765851] Re: dh_compress doesn't handle already compressed manpages with .so links
2018-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package debhelper - 11.3.2ubuntu1
---
debhelper (11.3.2ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium
  * Merge from Debian testing.  Remaining changes:
- Generate ddebs from debhelper instead of pkg-create-dbgsym
  + Make debhelper Conflict/Replace pkg-create-dbgsym to force it off.
  + Set DBGSYM_PACKAGE_TYPE to ddeb to get correct debian/files output.
- dh_installchangelogs: Do not install upstream changelog in compat
  level 7 and higher to avoid pointlessly bloating installed packages.
debhelper (11.3.2) unstable; urgency=medium
  * dh_installchangelogs: Fix a second regression that made
dh_installchangelogs ignore upstream changelogs in the
source directories.  Thanks to gregor herrmann for
reporting the imcomplete fix.  (Closes: #899248)
debhelper (11.3.1) unstable; urgency=medium
  * dh_installchangelogs: Fix logic error that made
dh_installchangelogs incorrectly ignore explicitly passed
changelogs.  Thanks to Sven Joachim and Rene Engelhard
for reporting the bug.  (Closes: #899248)
debhelper (11.3) unstable; urgency=medium
  [ Niels Thykier ]
  * Buildsystem.pm: Fix use of undefined variable in certain
error conditions.
  * dh_makeshlibs: Support -VUpstream-Version and -VNone as
alternative to passing -V or omitting -V respectively.
  * dh_makeshlibs: Make -VUpstream-Version the default in
compat 12 when -V is omitted.  (Closes: #896464)
  * dh_makeshlibs: Correct handling of an explicit -V when
a source builds multiple library packages and provides
explicit shlibs files for a subset of them.  Previously,
the -V option could have been ignored for some of the
packages containing libraries.
  * Dh_Lib.pm: Fall back to a regular mv(1) when rename fails
with EXDEV (cross mount point moves).  This restores
debhelper's ability to move files between mount points,
which can happen in dh_builddeb has to correct the
extension of a binary package built by dpkg-deb.
Thanks to Evan Krall for the report.  (Closes: #897569)
  * dh_missing.1: Consistently mention that dh_missing
defaults to --list-missing in compat 12.  Thanks to
Robie Basak for spotting the contradicting documentation.
(Closes: #898161)
  * dh_compress:  Avoid adding a duplicate ".gz" extension on
a symlink if it already has it.   This can happen e.g. with
dh_installman recompresses a manpage that was compressed and
had a valid symlink to it.  Thanks to Andreas Hasenack for
reporting the bug.  (Closes: LP: #1765851)
  * debian/control: Depend on dwz for dh_dwz.
  * dh_dwz: Generate a per-package multifile by default.  This
feature can be disabled by --no-dwz-multifile.
  * dh: Run dh_dwz by default in compat 12.
  * dh_dwz: Remove warning about the dwz feature being experimental.
  * dwz.pm: Ditto.
  * dh_installsystemd: Use the basename of the "tmpfiles" config
files.  This makes "systemd-tmpfiles --create" search for it
in both /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d and in /etc/tmpfiles.d.  With
this change the system administrator can now override the
"tmpfiles" config shipped by the package in
/usr/libtmpfiles.d.  Thanks to Nick Groenen and Seyeong Kim
for filing the bug.  (Closes: #894510)
  * dh_installinit: Ditto.
  * dh_installchangelogs: Look for changelog files installed by the
upstream build system in the package build dir (i.e. d//
and *not* debian/tmp!) and use them in preference to the one in the
source package where available.  This avoids some cases of duplicated
upstream changelogs.  Thanks to Evgeni Golov for the suggestion.
(Closes: #513521)
  * dh_md5sums: Stop deleting empty md5sums files as dpkg (now) creates
the empty file on install if absent.  Thanks to Rhonda D'Vine for
suggesting the improvement.  (Closes: #776853)
  * Dh_Lib.pm: Re-organise exports.
  * Dh_Lib.pm: Retract "print_and_complex_doit"; the only potential
consumer went with a different code snippet.
  * dh_installinitramfs: New tool to install initramfs hook scripts and
handle related maintscripts.  Thanks to Evgeni Golov for the
suggestion.  (Closes: #491027)
  * installinitramfs.pm: New sequence to enable dh_installinitramfs in
compat 11 and earlier.
  * dh_installdirs: Add --(no-)create-in-sourcedir option to make
dh_installdirs create directories in the source directory in addition
in the package build directory.  Furthermore, dh_installdirs now
accepts --sourcedir to overrule the default source directory (just
like e.g. dh_install).  Thanks to Robert Luberda for the suggestion.
(Closes: #816332)
  * Buildsystem.pm: Move code from Dh_Buildsystems.pm to Buildsystem.pm
to make the latter independent of the former.  This makes it possible
to load Buildsystem.pm without debian/control being present.  Thanks
to Andreas Tille for the bug report.  (Closes: #897026)
  * dh_installinit.1: Fix some incorrect markup in the documenta
After a restart everything is fine again. Looking at the extend log with
journalctl it looks like the old process was too slow with stopping and
systemd was too eager starting the new one. But it is not clear to me
why there is no error logged from the new process, then. See
http://paste.openstack.org/show/722969/ for that log.
useful at all I have attached an mmiotrace dump with from various
