[Bug 1802248] [NEW] Disable LPM for Raydium Touchscreens

2018-11-07 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Raydium touchscreens don't work on LPM capable platforms.

[Test]
Raydium touchscreens start to work with the patch.

[Fix]
Disable LPM for Raydium touchscreens.

[Regression Potential]
Low. Limits to specific Raydium touchscreens. Also, USB runtime PM
(SeletiveSuspend) still works, so disabling LPM doesn't really increase
power consumption.

[Bug 1802069] Re: test_095_kernel_symbols_missing_proc_self_stack failed with Xenial kernel

2018-11-07 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
So the issue lies within the _read_twice() in test-kernel-security.py
script.

The first attempt to cat /proc/self/stack will return 0, as it's reading the
file as root.
The second attempt will failed with "permission denied" as we're not allowing
regular user to access that file anymore.

But the code in _read_twice() is still expecting it to return a zeroed-out
content, like:
$ cat /proc/self/stack
[<>] save_stack_trace_tsk+0x22/0x40
[<>] proc_pid_stack+0xac/0x100
[<>] proc_single_show+0x55/0x90
[<>] seq_read+0xf2/0x3d0
[<>] __vfs_read+0x1b/0x40
[<>] vfs_read+0x86/0x130
[<>] SyS_read+0x55/0xc0
[<>] entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath+0x22/0xc1
[<>] 0x

Thus for 4.4 kernel, we can expect two different behaviour, one is the
zeroed-out kernel address, another is the permission denied error.

@Andrew: sorry, but your GPU is supported only by the 340 legacy driver,
and we do not support hybrid graphics with that driver.

[Bug 1802082] [NEW] Cosmic update: 4.18.15 upstream stable release

2018-11-07 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
   by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
   a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
   stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   4.18.15 upstream stable release
   from git://git.kernel.org/

[Bug 1740894] Re: KEY_RFKILL is not passed to userspace

2018-11-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Sorry but it's still a bit confusing to me so taking a step back
- on a stock XPS with the non-SRU version, what keycode do you get in xev
- on a stock cosmic what happens when you use the key
- does that command works to get out of airplane mode?

gdbus call --session --dest org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Rfkill \
   --object-path /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/Rfkill \
   --method org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Set \
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Rfkill AirplaneMode ''

(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=760517 is the upstream bug
which discussed the current handling of that key in g-s-d)

[Bug 1786894] Re: test_265_config_retpoline in kernel_security_test failed on 3.13 Precise

2018-11-07 Thread Juerg Haefliger
I talked to the security team. There is no reason to check for
CONFIG_RETPOLINE != 'y' in Precise. CONFIG_RETPOLINE should always be
set to 'y', even if the toolchain doesn't support it. There are minimal
mitigations that we get even without toolchain support but for that we
need CONFIG_RETPOLINE enabled.

[Bug 1665151]

2018-11-07 Thread Aaronjchamberlain
While not relating to the discussion of certain SSLProtocol and
SSLCipherSuite combinations halting desired SSLProtocols, I did want to
add that I had an issue where Let's Encrypt was holding my desired
changes back.

I was attempting to use the directive:
`SSLProtocols -all +TLSv1.1 +TLSv1.2` but TLSv1 was still being used. Due to
this bug report I noticed that one of my upper Virtual Hosts was indeed using a
cert from LE, and in that file they had a default of
SSLProtocol all -SSLv2 -SSLv3

If I could make a suggestion, it would be that we work towards getting
more explicit control over what SSLProtocol directives get inherited. It
seems strange that a file in a single Virtual Host reference would take
precedence over global directives in both my ssl.conf and httpd.conf
files.

[Bug 1801747] Re: External display not recognized, internal one goes to black

2018-11-07 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
More infos. I installed the notebook from scratch with a 16.04.2 image
and update to latest 16.04 packages which installed 4.15.0-38 kernel.
The laptop has the correct behavior, without entering settings I can
switch/duplicate displays with the fn key.

So original problem seems not related to kernel version.

[Bug 1626070] Re: Removal of former release machine types breaks VMs using them

2018-11-07 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Richud,
while the bug here was a special case with the wily type being used in Xenial
and therefore to be retained until the EOL of xenial has passed.
It is different for other machine types like the ones you see issues with atm.

Keeping the old types "almost forever" is a common habit as people just
don't think about them usually. That has for several users caused much
more pain later on. Therefore it is intended to (please choose your
preferred word) hint/encourage/enforce users to finally upgrade machine
types to pick up new features, stability and security fixes bound to new
types only.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QemuKVMMigration#Support_Matrix

Due to that the qemu in Ubuntu 18.10 dropped Zesty and Yakkety
intentionally.

[Bug 1802076] Re: Trackpad not detected

2018-11-07 Thread Cristian Aravena Romero
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

It works well but it cannot create the vconfig dir if it's not existing.
I've put spamd in debug and the problem is with perl tainted:

config: mkdir /var/lib/spamassassin/vconfig/giuseppe/ failed: Insecure

/usr/share/perl/5.26/File/Path.pm line 177,  line 2.

I solved the problem running spamd without -T option (as arch linux is
doing) but it could be great to fix this tainted variable.

[Bug 1665151]

2018-11-07 Thread Aaronjchamberlain
@Stefan Yes. I'm using Certbot to manage my LE Certs, and Certbot makes
those configuration changes automatically. All I'm saying is it would be
really useful to have a command / flag that would simply state what
directives are taking precedence for configuration, because situations
like this arise where some mysterious configuration I had forgotten
about took precedence over a global httpd.conf directive. If I could
just run a command and it says "SSLProtocol: Inherited from line 20 in
.../httpd.conf" would be the simplest way to be forwardly agnostic about
where or how the server get's configured.

Ok, I did further testing and the fix made things even worse!
(I used two - apart from this new samba version - identical VMs to verify the
behavior.)

Before the fix I was not able to delete non-empty directories.
With installed fix I'm not able to delete ANY directory - regardless of content!

[Bug 1802094] [NEW] Can not start Flashback session in 18.04 (Bionic) after update from 16.04 (Xenial)

2018-11-07 Thread Chrescht
Public bug reported:

Users authenticate against LDAP. Was fine until I upgraded to Ubuntu
18.04. /home is nfs mounted.

I've checked all logs I can find, syslog, auth, kern, lightdm, Xorg,
.xsession-errors. My main suspect from auth.log is:
lightdm: pam_systemd(lightdm:session): Failed to create session: Connection
timed out

There seems to be a 25 second timeout and if the session isn't ready it
goes back to the login screen (here lightdm-greeter).

Something else is bugging me: when a given session DOES let me login,
after restarting lightdm for whatever reason, I won't be able to log
back in. It's like the lightdm restart doesn't properly terminate, and
some bad clues are left in the user's home folder so that the next try
will end in a login loop.

Reinstalling flashback with apt-get install --reinstall gnome-session-flashback
didn't help.
~/.Xauthority is owned and writable by the owner. This has never been a problem.

No login problem for an old local account.

Public bug reported:

My Laptop is an ASUS TUF FX504 Series model. I installed ubuntu 18.04.1
on it but my trackpad is not detected. Attaching an external mouse works
fine.

Trackpad is easily identified by Windows 10.

`cat /proc/bus/input/devices | grep Name` shows the output:

```
I have also attached the output of `cat /proc/bus/input/devices >
~/devices` to this post.
`uname -a` outputs:
[Bug 1801496] Re: Printing job in 16.04 is slower than in 14.04
2018-11-07 Thread William.Yeung
We are reported that users(who are affect by this problem ) can't do
their job normally. Such as, doctors' consulting speed are seriously
delay by the medical diagnostic document printing speed.
We(RICOH printer driver developer) are still working hard to looking for an
workaround to make sure our printer user can do their job normally before your
official release.
We appreciate that you can private it to us if you have one.
By the way, more and more our printer driver users are affect by this
problem.
So, we are eagerly want to know that if Ubuntu is on the process of dealing
with this problem?
Can you offer us the approximate time that Ubuntu fixed this problem?
[Bug 1802090] [NEW] update overwrites sshd_config
2018-11-07 Thread Dominic Raferd
Public bug reported:
The latest update for Bionic (18.04.1) either overwrote or modified my
/etc/ssh/sshd_config with the result that I could no longer access my
machine using ssh.
A specific
Port [x]
line was removed and replaced by:
#Port 22
This was the only change. It happened as part of an automated process
this morning  - presumably a security update.
Was this behaviour intended?!
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.19 kernel[0].
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".
Thanks in advance.
[Bug 1801704] Re: Atril can't open cbr (rar) archives
2018-11-07 Thread Alex
The same happened to me with Atril (Mate desktop) and Evince (Gnome
desktop) in Debian testing last month. Stop opening cbr files but still
opening cbz files. It's a problem with mime types.
Evince fixed it with this short patch:
[Bug 1800465] Re: Vulkan error when using NVIDIA-Prime
2018-11-07 Thread Luca Mastromatteo
A temporary workaround is to switch gdm to another display manager
Well there is another problem when you update the drivers on Intel you
can't open the nvidia settings, just save the old nvidia-settings and
libs from /use/lib
On Ubuntu 18.04 is present only if you update the drivers from the repo,
the only way to use gdm is that.
[Bug 1802073] Re: No network in AWS (EC-Classic) after stopping and starging instance
2018-11-07 Thread Jani Ollikainen
And little bit more testing. It really seems to be that cloud-init does
not generate the file again if not run clout-init clean before. So it
doesn't generate the file again after stop and macaddress differs
and no network, and no network.
Let's test it by editing the file by hand:
$ cat /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml
# This file is generated from information provided by
# the datasource.  Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
# To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
# network: {config: disabled}
# EDITED
network:
version: 2
ethernets:
eth0:
dhcp4: true
$ sudo cloud-init init
$ cat /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml
# This file is generated from information provided by
# the datasource.  Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
# To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
# network: {config: disabled}
# EDITED
network:
version: 2
ethernets:
eth0:
dhcp4: true
$ sudo cloud-init clean
$ cat /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml
# This file is generated from information provided by
# the datasource.  Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
# To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
# network: {config: disabled}
# EDITED
network:
version: 2
ethernets:
eth0:
dhcp4: true
$ sudo cloud-init init
$ cat /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml
# This file is generated from information provided by
# the datasource.  Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
# To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
# network: {config: disabled}
network:
version: 2
ethernets:
eth0:
dhcp4: true
So clean and init is needed for the file to be generated again, and
probably normal boot does just the init and yes, there is wrong
macaddress, so no network for you.
[Bug 1801898] Re: Only one of two external (displayport) displays is working without hotplug
2018-11-07 Thread Andreas Vinsander
apport information
** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu
** Description changed:
  After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.10 from Ubuntu 18.04, when logging in my one of
my two external displays will not be activated without hotplugging the other
external display.
  The display settings app shows the second display as inactive, and when
trying to activate the settings app states that some hardware limitation stops
it from being possible to apply the change.
  The laptop lid is closed, the internal laptop display is not active.
  Hotplugging the other external display solves the problem - after
  hotplug both external displays are active. This makes the bug annoying
  but workaroundable.
  I am not sure if this bug belongs to the Xorg package or the linux
  package.
  Hardware:
  Thinkpad t430s laptop sitting in a Thinkpad 4338 docking station, with two
external displays connected through displayport (via docking station).
[Bug 1286910] Re: Lock screen uses last active window's language instead of default keyboard language
2018-11-07 Thread Aleksey
Same for me on Ubuntu 18.04 and GNOME Shell 3.28.3. I've got 2 input
methods on my machine, EN and RU. When locking the screen with last
window's language set to RU, I cannot log back in as password input
always uses RU language despite of the language toggler state in
password modal.
