Any chance this could be added? I know the last message is from 2017,
but there commercial products such as the Yamaha MD-BT01 Bluetooth

[Bug 1816006] [NEW] /var/run/squid (run_dir) no longer created on start up

2019-02-14 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

On squid service start up in Bionic, /var/run/squid is created by
/etc/init.d/squid (create_run_dir()). This doesn't happen in Cosmic nor
Disco and probably is related to the migration to systemd.

Squid needs to create the squid-kid-*.ipc UNIX sockets in /var/run/squid
to function on SMP set ups (workers X).

Steps to reproduce:

  * spin up fresh cosmic or bionic instance/machine

  * install squid

  * configure 'workers 5' or enable the Rock Store cache storage type

  * reboot instance

  * try start up squid.

Logging shows this:

| 2019/02/15 04:46:58 kid1| commBind Cannot bind socket FD 28 to [::]:
(2) No such file or directory

[Bug 1816004] [NEW] GLVND: AARCH64 : Fix address passed to clear cache

2019-02-14 Thread Sai Kiran Korwar
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

A new fix has been merged to NVIDIA libglvnd repo at
https://github.com/NVIDIA/libglvnd/pull/171/commits/9948df636708e2915e5c2daa61b318e6252bc02e

We need to include it in bionic.
It would be ok to just include this fix even without updating to the latest
glvnd version.

This change fixes a crash seen in some GLX apps while calling
glXGetProcAddress.

[Bug 1801898] Re: Only one of two external (displayport) displays is working without hotplug

I think this bug can be closed. Some upstream update (not sure which)
made it work as it should.

[Bug 1815002] Re: quick-boot-lvm.patch caused regression - menu always appear if root is on Btrfs

2019-02-14 Thread Steve Langasek

mkfs.btrfs /dev/vda2
mount /dev/vda2 /mnt
cp -a /boot/* /mnt/
umount /mnt
mount /dev/vda2 /mnt
grub-install vda
update-grub
reboot

- Boot to the grub prompt and hit 'c'

grub> save_env timeout_style

grub>

grub does not support writes to btrfs; therefore Ubuntu does not have
recordfail handling; therefore we cannot default to a timeout of zero on
UEFI systems when grub is installed to btrfs.

You are welcome to adjust the timeouts in /etc/default/grub, but the
grub package's behavior here is deliberate.

[Bug 1802944] Re: error: unsupported configuration: Target domain machine type

2019-02-14 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Richud,
finally I had some time to take a deeper look into this again - for too long it
was teasing me being unread in my inbox :-)

TL;DR:
- to update the machine type of a snapshot use "virsh edit " before
start
  Just as you'd do with a guest without snapshots after upgrade.
  virsh snapshot-revert
  virsh edit  (set type)
  virsh start

---

To test this as mentioned by richud he experienced that by 18.04->18.10
upgrades. But if you just start on 18.04 all will work. The reason is that this
began in zesty (or other EOL releases).
To reproduce that "today" one can start on the qemu level of Bionic (which
still supports zesty machine type) and there create a guest. Then shut it down,
and modify the machine type via "virsh edit " to be

To go back and forth on qemu versions more easily we can use the cloud archive
[2].
To do so we can:
Well usualyl we could, but just rocky had no qemu bundled :-/
Lets use stein (which is note released yet) instead
 $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-cloud-archive/stein-staging
 # now we are on a similar level as Ubuntu 18.10
 $ sudo ppa-purge  ppa:ubuntu-cloud-archive/stein-staging
 # back at the 18.04 level

With that as preparation I wanted to create the case myself to check how
one would/could update the machine types of a snapshot. I'd really hate
if we'd have to keep machine types almost indefinetly due to that and
updating them (as mentioned) is strongly recommended. But there needs to
be some reasonable way to start these old snapshots again (with new
machine types IMHO). So lets give all of that some analysis.

Virt manager does use --redefine in some cases (code has it, unclear when used
so far).
I logged and the normal button in the UI does not set it:
 [Do, 14 Feb 2019 10:02:31 virt-manager 8383] DEBUG (domain:1233) Creating
snapshot flags=0 xml=

   snapshot1-virt-manager

Virsh users can set that as needed) when creating the snapshot.
That said it is meant that all elements produced by snapshot-dumpxml are valid.
Well lets try with both, as one can "redefine" later if needed.

What I get with
 $ virsh snapshot-dumpxml
actually already LGTM

It looks like a "normal" domain XML plus some data about the snapshot itself

It also has the machine type in just this XML and there even is a snapshot-edit
command.
So one could
 $ virsh snapshot-edit
To modify things.
Just as you already did in the original bug report, but just change the type
there instead of patching qemu.

That actually seems as modifiable as the normal domain definition.
There we could update the machine type to to the latest recommended (or any
other type) as needed.
Doing so on the reporting issue.

I'd not recommend doing that with live snapshots as the virtual-machine might
not match what the guest expects after being resumed from memory.
But for the sake of a try I did so.

Test
1. create guest
2. shut the guests down
3. set type to zesty with virsh edit
$ virsh list --all
 IdName   State

 5 disco-mt-livesnap-zestyrunning
 - disco-mt-zesty shut off
4. take snapshots
 $ virsh snapshot-create disco-mt-zesty
 Domain snapshot 1550137482 created
 $ virsh snapshot-create disco-mt-livesnap-zesty
 Domain snapshot 1550137527 created
5. upgrade to newer qemu
 $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-cloud-archive/stein-staging
 $ sudo apt upgrade
6. revert guests to snapshot
 $ virsh snapshot-revert disco-mt-zesty 1550137482
7. try to start guests (expected to not work)
 $ virsh start disco-mt-zesty
   error: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor:
2019-02-14T09:49:55.921906Z qemu-system-x86_64: -enable-kvm: unsupported
machine type 'pc-i440fx-zesty'
   # fails as expected
 $ virsh snapshot-revert disco-mt-livesnap-zesty 1550137527
   # this even works, as it is still the same (old) qemu process
   # to trigger issues with the live snapshot we need to stop and start the
guest
   # When restarting you get the expected issue just as we know and should
follow [3]
 $ virsh shutdown disco-mt-livesnap-zesty
 $ virsh edit disco-mt-livesnap-zesty (update type)
 $ virsh start disco-mt-livesnap-zesty
   # ow we can see the issue
 $ virsh snapshot-revert disco-mt-livesnap-zesty 1550137527
   error: revert requires force: Target domain machine type pc-i440fx-zesty
does not match source pc-i440fx-disco
7. lets fix the issue by adapting the type
There is no hope for live snapshots, as I said the kind of virtual machine just
doesn't exist anymore
But live snapshots are rare (and unreliable) anyway, furthermore people don't
keep them a long time.
And since the requirement to be an issue is to have restarted the guest (see
#6) this isn't a real issue.
or the shutoff snapshots the story is different, those are nice for backup and
upgrade management.
here adapt the machine type either in the domain after revert:
  $ virsh snapshot-revert

[Bug 1815887] Re: Xubuntu 18.04.2 i386 installation fails to boot on kvm (kvm3d cpu)

2019-02-14 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Actually, this seems to be more of a cosmic kvm32 type issue. It feels
to me that when it's not booting, it's not even reaching grub actually.
I was able to get the system booting by pressing 'shift' when kvm was
starting - I was getting the grub boot-menu then and could successfully
start the system. Then for the next few runs it was working out-of-the-
box again. Later I got the same issue.

So it all feels like not related to the actual images, more like an

[Bug 1804408] Re: [19.04 FEAT] LUKS2 support for pam_mount

2019-02-14 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi ifranzki, the test you did was the sanity check on my PPA before bringing it
to the eyes of the SRU Team. The one that was called for in comment #16 is now
"the real thing" available in cosmic-proposed and binaries that would be
released.
They are >=99,9% identical, but to be sure a test against -proposed is
needed to complete SRUs.
Yet atm due to the builders, give it some time to actually build please.

I can confirm that it works "Out of the box" with lightdm and that it also

[Bug 1815839] Re: System detected an application problem at startup

2019-02-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1813873] Re: Userspace break as a result of missing patch backport

2019-02-14 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Samuel, for now the suggestion is to keep kernel 4.15.0-43, as it
doesn't show the issue reported in this LP.

Soon (probably later today or tomorrow) the new version for 4.15 will
show up in -proposed pocket, so you can update to that version for
testing purposes, since that version will have the fix for the issue
reported here.

Cheers,

Guilherme

[Bug 1815881] [NEW] Installation fails if update-notifier is missing

2019-02-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact
THe postinst doesn't handle update-notifier not being installed

* Test case
- remove update-notifier
- install evolution-data-server

The installation should not error out in the postinst

* Regression potential

The change is only to add a || true to the update-notifier command in
the postinst, it shouldn't impact on anything

(see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=911603)

[Bug 1815882] [NEW] Update evolution-data-server to 3.30.5

2019-02-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact

That's a new bug-fix only update from GNOME

There is a micro-release exception for GNOME:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#GNOME

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-data-server/blob/gnome-3-30/NEWS
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-data-server/commits/gnome-3-30

* Test Case
After installing the update, restart your computer.

Run several eds-using apps like Evolution, GNOME Calendar and verify
that they continue to run at least as well as before this update.

* Regression Potential

It's a new version with a bug of changes and fixes including in imap,
calendar and gpg signing code so those features need to be well tested.

[Bug 1813873] Re: Userspace break as a result of missing patch backport

2019-02-14 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
You're welcome Putatieve, thanks for testing the Xenial 4.4.0-143
version!

And you're right, we will have a fix for Xenial-HWE - as soon it is available,
you will observe a new message from Brad Figg here, this time adding a tag
"verification-needed-bionic".
And then, likely the version for Xenial-HWE will be ready to test.

Notice the "likely" word above: happens that the build process is
usually parallel, with Bionic 4.15 and Xenial 4.15~16.04 at same time;
but there are small code changes (mostly toolchain related) between
Bionic 4.15 and Xenial-HWE, so it may happen that Bionic version is
ready before Xenial-HWE. It's likely to be at same time (or with some
hours of difference) though.

If you're interested in more knowledge about Ubuntu kernel cycles, I'd like to
suggest you this interesting wiki page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/FAQ#Kernel.2FSupport.Ubuntu_Kernel_Release_Schedule
You can check the releases and also, how the HWE works (18.04 kernel 4.15 is
present as a long-term supported HWE kernel for 16.04.5 version; same relation
we observe between 16.04 and 14.04.5).

Feel free to expose any remaining questions you have - also, your testing when
the 4.15 version gets released to -proposed is much appreciated!
Cheers,

Guilherme

[Bug 1813873] Re: Userspace break as a result of missing patch backport

2019-02-14 Thread SAMUEL TEIXEIRA SANTOS
Hi all.

I'm following your discussion, but I couldn't realize if I can fix or
just waiting the fix.

In my case I have two stations with ubuntu 18.04(bionic), both with
linux-image-4.15.0-45-generic and linux-image-4.15.0-43-generic.

So, I wait or can I apply somehow the fix it?

All this is very new to me, sorry

Regards,

Samuel

[Bug 1813365] Re: Local privilege escalation via snapd socket

2019-02-14 Thread Chris Moberly
Hi Gustavo,

Yes, but remember that this is a low-privilege user exploiting the bug
in order to install a snap in devmode to get root.

This does indeed require an exploit, so that the install hook can
execute the commands as root and add a new user. It's simply an
alternative exploit to using the create-user API.

You can see the code at github.com/initstring/dirty_sock/ in the version
2.

Some of the tech journalists covering this incorrectly claimed that my
exploit would be bundled inside malicious snaps. This is where there is
a bit of confusion, as you're 100% right - that snap would not have
access to the socket, so that is not realistic. I've tried to correct
folks where I can, but I think my blog posting is still correctly
describing things.

If you see something specific in the blog posting that should be
corrected, please let me know.

Thanks!

there is no difference with or without the username from the command gio
mount... in both cases ask me a password and if I press return without typing a
password or I press Ctrl-c the share is correctly mounted...

[Bug 704789]

2019-02-14 Thread Qa-admin-q
** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open,
confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked
on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has
been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really
appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still
present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of
LibreOffice
(5.1.6 or 5.2.3  https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of
LibreOffice and
your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave
a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

[Bug 1815887] Re: Xubuntu 18.04.2 i386 installation fails to boot on kvm (kvm3d cpu)

2019-02-14 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
** Description changed:

  During 18.04.2 iso testing, I have picked up the i386 Xubuntu isos for a
  quick sanity-test on kvm. Even though the live-session tests have
  succeeded (everything seemed to work as expected), I seem to be having
  issues booting an installed system on kvm.

  The Xubuntu system installed correctly. I have selected full-disk
  installation and disabled downloading updates during install. Then I
  have proceeded with trying to boot the installed system:

  kvm -cdrom ~/bionic-desktop-i386.iso -drive
  if=virtio,file=/home/sil2100/hdd.qcow2 -m 2048 -boot c -cpu kvm32

  The boot process hangs on a black screen and blinking cursor. No splash
- screen was visible. Tried installing twice and the effect was the same.
+ screen was visible. Tried installing twice and the result was the same.

2019-02-14 Thread daniel CURTIS
Hello.

There is a similar raport about failed 'nvidia_304' module build on
latest '-proposed' v4.4.0-143-generic kernel:

✗ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-304/+bug/1815858

Mentioned issue happened on both: amd64 and i385/i686 architectures.

Best regards.

[Bug 220263]

2019-02-14 Thread L. David Baron
So I think it would be useful to know, for the current round of
complaints, are the problems the result of:

1. Firefox incorrectly gets data out of the GTK theme, so that its default
appearance for controls doesn't match the native one, or
2. Firefox gets the data out of the theme correctly, but then web pages
override one but not both of color and background (while assuming that color is
dark and background is light), leading to an unreadable result

We've had both problems in the past, and it would be useful to know
which of them is happening in the set of problems that have spiked in
the past few months.
