[Bug 1852870] [NEW] core dumps when installing mono-devel in ppc64le/ubuntu:18.04

2019-11-16 Thread Nicholas Quentin Haas
Public bug reported:

(moderators: this is a resubmit since my browser generated an error
when I tried to submit before, please delete if this ends up being a
duplicate)

When installing 'mono-devel' from the default repositories of
ppc64le/ubuntu:18.04 with apt, core dumps are generated with no obvious
errors in the terminal's output. These core dumps do not occur in the
x86-64 version of ubuntu:18.04 (x86-64). Mono runtime appears to be
functioning despite evidence something went wrong during package
deployment. Attached is the terminal output and commands to reproduce
in Docker.

# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS

[Bug 1852864] [NEW] Fractional Scaling shows a black bar

2019-11-16 Thread roland via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

The right part of the external screen shows a black bar when using fractional
scaling.
This started happening this week.

Somebody else is also experiencing this problem:
* [ubuntu discourse
post](https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/x11-hidpi-scaling-available-for-testing-on-disco/10293/23)
*
[photo](https://ubuntucommunity.s3-us-east-2.amazonaws.com/original/2X/5/509069037c78c1e5b461e526236ffeb207de1025.jpg)

Attached monitors:
* External 4K
* Laptop: qhd

Tried connection types:
*  HDMI (30hz),
*  HDMI over usb-c
*  DP over usb-c

Fractional scaling was set up in this way:
`gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features
"['x11-randr-fractional-scaling']"`

It doesn't seem to be monitor related.
It works when:
*  using wayland
*  turning off fractional scaling
*  during boot and login

Installed software:
*  ubuntu 19.04
*  Gnome 3.32.1

[Bug 1852871] [NEW] Connect to Android Tablet does not work in 19.10

2019-11-16 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

With 19.04 I just plugged my Android Tablet into a USB slot and could
move files between my two devices. With 19.10 it usually does not mount
my device. When it says it has, then all the directories are claimed to
be empty. The code for 19.10 obviously broke something.

[Bug 1852864] Re: Fractional Scaling shows a black bar

2019-11-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Not sure what desktop you are using but
that screenshot isn't Ubuntu. Those HiDPI daemon settings don't exist in
GNOME/Ubuntu.

Does it happen on Ubuntu as well? Could you add a journalctl log after
getting the issue?

[Bug 1852879] [NEW] HDMI Display port not detected

2019-11-16 Thread Siavash
Public bug reported:

ubuntu 18.04.x+ doesn't detect my monitor connected with HDMI port. I first
realized that I have a problem when running the installer. I had to connect an
older monitor connected to my DVI-I port in order to run the installer. After
installation I tried to make ubuntu understand that I'm trying to use my HDMI
port and I used all kinds of commands suggested to me at #ubuntu@freenode but
no avail.
I tried ubuntu 16.04 and the problem was not there. The installer was fine and
the OS was fine until I upgraded to 18.04 and the problem came back.

I have tried installing different OSs recently and I had no problems
with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I tried Debian and the installer was
fine but when OS started, there was the same problem as with ubuntu
18.04.

[Bug 1852879] Re: HDMI Display port not detected

2019-11-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1852879/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1852870] Re: core dumps when installing mono-devel in ppc64le/ubuntu:18.04

2019-11-16 Thread Q. Haas
** Description changed:

  (moderators: this is a resubmit since my browser generated an error
  when I tried to submit before, please delete if this ends up being a
  duplicate)

  When installing 'mono-devel' from the default repositories of
  ppc64le/ubuntu:18.04 with apt, core dumps are generated with no obvious
- errors in the terminal's output. These core dumps do not occur in the
- x86-64 version of ubuntu:18.04 (x86-64). Mono runtime appears to be
+ errors in the terminal's output. I have not noticed this behavior with
+ other packages deployed via apt (however, I have not ruled out it being
+ a dependency of mono-devel causing them). These core dumps do not occur
+ in the x86-64 version of ubuntu:18.04. Mono runtime appears to be
  functioning despite evidence something went wrong during package
  deployment. Attached is the terminal output and commands to reproduce
  in Docker.

[Bug 1852872] [NEW] Application names in Latin characters instead of Cyrillic

2019-11-16 Thread kolya
Public bug reported:

I have ru_RU.UTF-8 and majority of elements are written in Russian and
Cyrillic. When I open mate menu some UI elements are in Russian with
Cyrillic - but somehow application names are in Russian that is
transliterated into latin. See screenshot - for example Cheese app.

I'm fairly certain that this was not a problem on 19.04 and appeared
after upgrade.

Please let me know if additional information is needed.
Thanks!

[Bug 1852863] Re: Don't know

2019-11-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1848797] Re: After upgrading to 19.10, boot screen shows: "Error: symbol 'grub_file_filters' not found."

2019-11-16 Thread sacharja
Seems to be related to the virtualbox guest additions kernel moduls. Was
able to restore grub via
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing#via_ChRoot .
Afterwards it was not possible to install the general kernel package.
Only after I removed the virtualbox guest additions hwe I was able to
install the new kernel that came with 19.10.

[Bug 1851504] Re: encrypted root fails to cryptsetup on disco

2019-11-16 Thread Chris Baker
This bug is affecting me on Kubuntu 19.04.
I rebooted my computer this morning and typed my password into cryptsetup
during boot only to get the message "libgcc_s.so.1 must be installed for
pthread_cancel to work".

There are a few factors that I believe should cause the priority of this issue
to be increased:
1. Advanced boot options cannot be used to recover
   Selecting recovery mode from grub menu or older kernel/initramfs versions
doesn't help.
   All of my old initramfs images have been updated to no longer include
libgcc_s.so.1.
2. The initramfs scripts do not recover gracefully
   It has taken me at least 4 hours to recover from this issue because copying
libgcc_s.so.1 from a usb stick into the initramfs isn't enough to recover. Upon
exiting the recovery shell, it simply indicated that the root couldn't be
mounted and dumped me back to the shell again.
   I manually ran cryptsetup to open the LUKS volume and this still resulted in
getting dumped back to the initramfs shell.
   The problem, I think, is that the cryptsetup fails several times (in
local-top and in local-premount or local-block) before the mount is considered
failed and the initial recovery console is presented. So, when exiting the
shell, it tries to resume at a point well past the initial mounting attempt.

I finally got the computer to boot by copying libgcc_s.so.1 from another
computer into the recovery initramfs. I then had to source
scripts/functions and run_scripts local-top. After that I was able to
boot, but I don't remember if I also did a run_scripts local-premount.

Also noticed that v3d.ko is not included as one of the kernel modules
int he build. This seems to cause Xorg to pick the VMware display

[Bug 1852636] Re: Cannot install any release on HP Omen 17-cb0013nm

2019-11-16 Thread Vedran Rafaelic
I also managed to install with these same "nomodeset pci=nommconf" but
it is pretty unstable.

As I saw "systemd[1170]: Failed to start GNOME Shell on Wayland" in
"journalctl -b", I uncommented "WaylandEnable=false" in
"/etc/gdm3/custom.conf". I was having black screen on boot, being able
to enter CTRL+ALT+F3 though.

Here is the "journalctl -b" with "WaylandEnable=false"

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10

2019-11-16 Thread d7rk
This also happens in other office and text applications (geany, under ms office
2010 with wine, etc.) and other systems such as manjaro linux with gnome-shell
1:3.34.1+12+ga43c22e3a-1 and mutter 3.34.1+52+g403d8fcc-1 under Xorg.
Wouldn't it be a mutter bug linked to implementation of the new clipboard?

[Bug 1851901] Re: Touchpad doesn't work on Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1

2019-11-16 Thread Mirosław Marszałek
I forgot to add something potentially important - this used to work
until a few days ago. I don't know which update exactly broke things,
since usually I use a mouse and I simply didn't notice right away. I
updated via the software center pop-up so there could be even more
delay.

I went back to older kernels and it does not work anymore (5.2.9 and
5.3.0-18 - 5.3.0-22). On 18.04.3 LTS in a live session the touchpad
works, while the touchscreen doesn't.

[Bug 1852844] [NEW] Nautilus/Files UI requires sudo access to unmount a disk that can be unmounted successfully without sudo using command line

2019-11-16 Thread Sergey Ushakov
Public bug reported:

An external disk device is declared in '/etc/fstab' with 'auto,nofail,users'
options:
UUID=aa083302-...-b66c0715eaf1 /media/ushakov/TOSHIBA_SYSTEM ext4
nodev,nosuid,auto,nofail,users 0 2

It is then successfully mounted automatically upon being connected.

It can further be unmounted successfully without `sudo` from command
line, e.g.: `umount $mount_point`.

Meanwhile an attempt to unmount this device from Nautilus/Files UI
results in an "Authentication Required" message: "Authentication is
required to unmount External USB3.0 (/dev/sdc3) mounted by another
user".

The expected Nautilus/Files UI behavior would be that the disk device is
unmounted silently or just with an non-intrusive notification upon a
click on the "Unmount" button near the device label.

[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2019-11-16 Thread David Jenkinson
New Logitech keyboard and mouse onto existing system: Ubuntu 18.04.3
LTS.

Problem - No control over a very sensitive mouse & no functioning
keypad.

Tried #10 - no change
Tried using xinput - no change
Tried xset - managed to slow the mouse but still far too sensitive.

Solution:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Assistive Technologies
Uncheck "Enable assistive technologies"

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Mouse
Uncheck "Use mouse emulation"

I now have a functioning keypad and can control the mouse from Settings
> Mouse and Touchpad.

[Bug 1851311] Re: Grub 2.04 Out of memory error, No server error

2019-11-16 Thread C.S.Cameron
Workaround
I used mkusb installed in 18.04, (grub 2.02), to make the foundation of an ISO
booter.
ISO's in an ISO folder on usbdata partition, with casper-rw partition for
persistence, (one distro only).
Usbboot partition has loop mounting grub.cfg.
Boots 18.04 and 19.10, both UEFI and BIOS, (I got a new power brick for my UEFI
computer).

UEFI boot fails using mkusb installed in 19.10, (grub 2.04). whether
18.04 or 19.10.

I think the problem is grub 2.04 myself.

[Bug 1635463] Re: pip freeze includes "pkg-resources==0.0.0"

2019-11-16 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

for what it's worth, the problem comes from the debianized version of
virtualenv which uses a debundled version of pkg_resource which gets
added into the virtualenv at creation time :

$ virtualenv .
Running virtualenv with interpreter /usr/bin/python2
New python executable in /home/caribou/git/quividi/test/bin/python2
Also creating executable in /home/caribou/git/quividi/test/bin/python
Installing setuptools, pkg_resources, pip, wheel...done.
$ pip freeze
pkg-resources==0.0.0

Using the pip installed version of virtualenv can be a workable
workaround :

$ sudo apt -y purge python3-virtualenv virtualenv tox
$ pip install virtualenv
$ virtualenv .
pip install virtualenv
Collecting virtualenv
  Downloading
https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/c5/97/00dd42a0fc41e9016b23f07ec7f657f636cb672fad9cf72b80f8f65c6a46/virtualenv-16.7.7-py2.py3-none-any.whl
 (3.4MB)
100% || 3.4MB 351kB/s
Installing collected packages: virtualenv
Successfully installed virtualenv-16.7.7
$ virtualenv .
New python executable in /home/caribou/git/quividi/test/bin/python
Installing setuptools, pip, wheel...
done.
$ source bin/activate
$ pip freeze

mkusb can boot from grub 2.04 when pointing to a partition, into which
you have cloned from the iso file (so with an iso 9660 file system). The

outline a *real life* issue that we're facing following this issue.

We've put block storage in private beta a while ago
(https://www.scaleway.com/fr/betas/#block-storage) based on RBD storage.

The same platform experienced another QEMU issue (LPl #1837869) kindly
fixed and SRU by @paelzer) that we deployed on the same platform this
week. So all the instances currently running that have NOT used RBD
based storage during the BETA but will still be running when we go live
and want to use RBD storage when it goes GA will experience this bug
unless they reboot their instance.

We're looking into a workaround solution to alleviate this situation but
I thought I'd share the context to give a some kind of "real life"
experience :-)

Kind regards,

Louis (aka caribou) ;-)

[Bug 1852799] Re: Regression: modules in bionic -hwe-18.04-edge kernels aren't signed since 5.3.0-22

2019-11-16 Thread Tiago Marques
Lost ability to boot, seems to be the same issue, as the modules are
present in the initrd but don't seem to load.
