[Bug 1805256] Re: qemu-img hangs on rcu_call_ready_event logic in Aarch64 when converting images

2020-06-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
This will re-open again for Bionic due to bug 1885419 forcing a revert of the
former backports.
After a deeper evaluation if the assert is wrong in the backport or just
flagging a problem formerly already existing in Bionic this will be re-fixed.

[Bug 1885419] Re: QEMU crash using virtio-scsi with iothread

2020-06-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
** Description changed:

- After a recent upgrade I can't start a Windows 10 VM anymore, QEMU
- crashes with the error message:
+ [Impact]
+
+ * Despite quite a bunch of regression testing, explicit testing by
+different parties and extra time in -proposed the fix to bug 1805256
+caused a regression for other configurations.
+
+ * We will upload version .28 which essentially is a revert of .27 to
+provide us the time to revisit the fix for bug 1805256 again and not
+being forced to rush this cleanup.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Ensure that the revert really avoids the regression to iothread
+handling. Start a guest with virtio-scsi + iothreads.

+ ...
+
+
+
+
+ ...
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The regression already happened despite all measures. This is just the
+revert. So other than any issues creeping in at build time (e.g.
+toolchain changes, which I didn't see any) this should eventually match
+the former .27
+https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.27
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * The formerly fixed bug 1805256 will re-open due to this and be worked on
+again.
+
+ ---
+
+
+ After a recent upgrade I can't start a Windows 10 VM anymore, QEMU crashes
with the error message:

error: Failed to start domain win10
error: internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor:
qemu-system-x86_64: /build/qemu-v_zvmu/qemu-2.11+dfsg/util/aio-posix.c:592:
aio_poll: Assertion `in_aio_context_home_thread(ctx)' failed.

I was able to resurrect the VM by removing the iothread-related elements
  from the domain definition:

  ...
- 1
+   1
  ...
-
-
-
-
+

  The domain XML is attached.

I'm using virtio-scsi and not virtio-blk because I use trimming to keep
my QCOW image small(er). Would be great if I could continue to use this
  with iothreads enabled.

[Bug 1885419] Re: QEMU crash using virtio-scsi with iothread

2020-06-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
After an initial analysis by Rafael we decided that we will upload a
revert of version .27 so that we have more time to re-evaluate this.

The backports of the fixes added the assert, but chances are that the issue was
already present in Bionic before - not triggered but detected by the backport.
To get everyone functional again I'll prepare an SRU to revert the change
currently in -updates.
Once it lands we will re-open the bionic task of bug 1805256 and work on an
improved fix for it there.

** Summary changed:

Edit
+ won't auto-select input when headset is plugged and selected in pop-up window

** Description changed:

- Recently Intel added a new audio driver in the Linux kernel, it is
- called sof driver. This driver is needed on the laptops which
- connect the digital mic to the PCH instead of the codec. To make the
- sof driver work with pulseaudio, the ucm is mandatory. Intel
- wrote the ucm for the machines with multi-function audio jack, with
- this ucm, the port names are different from the ones without ucm, this
- is the port names with the ucm:
- [In] Dmic: Digital Microphone (priority: 100, latency offset: 0 usec)
- Part of profile(s): Hdmi3, Hdmi2, Hdmi1, HiFi
- [In] Headphone Microphone: Headphone Microphone (priority: 100, latency
offset: 0 usec, available)
- Part of profile(s): Hdmi3, Hdmi2, Hdmi1, HiFi
- [In] Headset Microphone: Headset Microphone (priority: 100, latency offset: 0
usec, available)
- Part of profile(s): Hdmi3, Hdmi2, Hdmi1, HiFi
- [Out] Headphone: Headphone (priority: 200, latency offset: 0 usec, available)
- Part of profile(s): HiFi
- [Out] Speaker: Speaker (priority: 100, latency offset: 0 usec)
- Part of profile(s): HiFi
- To make the audio device selection work, let's add those new port
- names.
- And with the ucm, the Dmic (internal mic) is on one source since the
- dmic connects to PCH, the headphone-mic and headset mic are on another
- source since they connect to the codec. This needs us to add calling
- set_default_source() in the source_info_cb(), it is safe even for old
- machines on which internal mic, headphone-mic and headset-mic are on
- the same source.

[Bug 1885419] Re: QEMU crash using virtio-scsi with iothread

2020-06-30 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Viktor, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qemu into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/1:2.11+dfsg-
1ubuntu7.28 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1876737] Re: GRUB refuses to boot a 32-bit kernel when in EFI mode

2020-06-30 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
For those looking for the last good binaries, some notes.

Signed (support secure boot), need extraction from the .deb:
Good: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/1.136/+build/18767810
Bad: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/1.137/+build/18827799

Unsigned, but directly downloadable with plain wget:
Good: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/eoan/main/uefi/grub2-amd64/current/
Bad:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/eoan-updates/main/uefi/grub2-amd64/current/

Grub publishing history:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/+publishinghistory
Everything later than focal 1.137 and eoan 1.128.2 are broken.

[Bug 1885419] Re: QEMU crash using virtio-scsi with iothread

2020-06-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I reopened and assigned rafael to bug 1805256 to re-evaluate this.
I've taken over this bug to push a revert to Bionic asap.
SRU Template added to the bug here.

Since it is a plain revert with no other changes in between this (other
than the changelog) matches the former 1%2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.26.
Therefore I'll skip a review cycle in the Team and directly upload it to

experience with Ubuntu, but I don't understand what the error is or how
it comes about. Does clamtk run?

Thanks,

[Bug 1662324] Re: linux bridge agent disables ipv6 before adding an ipv6 address

2020-06-30 Thread Seyeong Kim
I updated regression

Please let me know if I need to put more.

Thanks.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
When using linuxbridge and after creating network & interface to ext-net,
disable_ipv6 is 1. then linuxbridge-agent doesn't add ipv6 properly to newly
created bridge.

  [Test Case]

  1. deploy basic mitaka env
  2. create external network(ext-net)
  3. create ipv6 network and interface to ext-net
  4. check if related bridge has ipv6 ip
  - no ipv6 originally
  or
  - cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/[BRIDGE]/disable_ipv6

after this commit, I was able to see ipv6 address properly.

  [Regression]
This has been patched in newer releases of neutron for a while regression
potential of the backport should be fairly low. You need to restart
neutron-linuxbridge-agent after applying the fix adn then there could be short
downtime needed.
+ Previous code disabled ipv6 on bridge and it didn't recognize ipv6. with this
patch, patch removes passing ip or gateway information to related
function(update_interface_ip_details, ensure_bridge, get_interface_details).
Instead of that, update_interface_ip_details loops ip version(ipv4, ipv6) then
gets ips, gateway and pass to _update_interface_ip_details which only uses
them. as a result, path ips and gateway goes are clearer.

  [Others]

  -- original description --

  Summary:

I have a dual-stack NIC with only an IPv6 SLAAC and link local address
plumbed. This is the designated provider network nic. When I create a network
and then a subnet, the linux bridge agent first disables IPv6 on the bridge and
then tries to add the IPv6 address from the NIC to the bridge. Since IPv6 was
disabled on the bridge, this fails with 'RTNETLINK answers: Permission denied'.
My intent was to create an IPv4 subnet over this interface with floating IPv4
addresses for assignment to VMs via this command:
openstack subnet create --network provider \
  --allocation-pool start=10.54.204.200,end=10.54.204.217 \
  --dns-nameserver 69.252.80.80 --dns-nameserver 69.252.81.81 \
  --gateway 10.54.204.129 --subnet-range 10.54.204.128/25 provider

I don't know why the agent is disabling IPv6 (I wish it wouldn't),
that's probably the problem. However, if the agent knows to disable IPv6
it should also know not to try to add an IPv6 address.

[Bug 1885313] Re: evince crashes when opening rfc8798.pdf

2020-06-30 Thread Erik Auerswald
To test newer versions of evince I have installed evince via the snap
store.

After installation via snap, the snap version can be started using its
different program icon (I hope you can understand what I mean, I clicked
the "9 dots" icon in the bottom of the task bar on the left, typed
"evince", found two versions using different icons, and verified the
version via "Show Details").

* 3.34.2+git4.91cbe4fe (from 2020-06-01) crashes with all the RFC PDF documents
of this bug and bug #1849888 (which does cast some doubt about that bug being
fixed in evince version 3.34.1-1).
* 3.36.6+git2.ce03847a (from 2020-06-27) crashes as well.
* 3.37.2+git65.582b220e (from 2020-06-30) does not start, so result for the
problematic RFC PDFs.

So at least _this_ bug is relevant to more recent versions of evince
than the 18.04 LTS default.

For the default latest/stable channel the snap package shows the
following information:

Hi,

Rafael's suggestion (comment 27) may help in your case too, however
according to [1] Amazon RDS supports TLS 1.2, so I'd check if anything
has to be enabled or upgraded on the server side to make it work.

[Bug 1885690] [NEW] Groovy update: v5.7.6 upstream stable release

2020-06-30 Thread Paolo Pisati
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar

Thank you for the quick response.
[1] has built now and I was verifying that it fixes the reported regression in
Bionic.
Gladly 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.26 still is in bionic-security so we can make a
three way comparison.

For tests I used a default uvtool created VM and added:

Downgrade to former version (still in -security pocket):

[Bug 1885529] Re: Gnome "Activities" button in inconsistent location when the Places menu is enabled

Thanks

Yes I have deliberately not upgraded to 20.04
Every time I try, it makes my laptop unbootable.

I just tried again today. Now not only does it not boot into this new
kernel, but booting into the previous kernel version no longer works
either.

Where is the best place to get support for that issue?

I didn't do hourly long tests but spawned three different kind of guests on two
architectures just as sanity check. I didn't do more as the code is literally
the same as .26 was - only difference would be the toolchain at compile time.
But even that is only a few weeks different, as qemu gets updates frequently.

[Bug 1885419] Re: QEMU crash using virtio-scsi with iothread

2020-06-30 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks. The vagrant-mutate seems unrelated (looking at the history it
fails often with various versions of qemu) and given that this is an
exact revert (I checked) I believe this is fine to release then.

[Bug 1825636] Re: Battery drain during sleep. System suspended before kernel suspends all tasks

2020-06-30 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I'm no kernel triager but I have a few observations that can help
focusing the bug report:

1. Are people manually installing tlp and that causing problems, or do
people experience this too with vanilla installation of Ubuntu? (tlp is
not part of the default install, and not in the 'main' supported
packages, but definitely power management is optimized as is, ie many of
the settings tlp would set are the default anyway in Ubuntu)

2. It may be useful to rule out it's not case of bug 1808957, some
people here might be here because of it, ie check cat
/sys/power/mem_sleep and if it says s2idle, then you've an unfortunate
configuration problem, you can add mem_sleep_default=deep to grub
config.

[Bug 1885693] [NEW] Unwanted reboot after screen is locked

2020-06-30 Thread Jacob Bunk Nielsen
Public bug reported:

After locking the screen to leave the computer for a few minutes, I come
back to a computer that is freshly rebooted. It usually happens 1 out of
4 or 5 times when locking the screen.

This only happens when my laptop (Lenovo T470s, also seen with T490) is
connected to my USB-C dock. The problem has been observed with 18.04,
19.10 and 20.04.

[Bug 1743200] Re: No support for interface labels

2020-06-30 Thread Lukas Märdian
As a clarification on this topic:

We will be implementing ip address labels, as defined by iproute2's "ip
address [...] label eth0:XXX" command (man ip-address). Not to be
confused with ifconfig's legacy method of using aliased or virtual
interfaces, which behave almost like a real interface.

The newer 'ip' utility does not use the legacy concept of alias
interfaces. However, it supports assigning arbitrary names to the
interfaces, called 'labels'. Both methods have in common that they allow
to assign multiple IP addresses to an interface, which can be referenced
by name.

[Bug 1885673] Re: won't auto-select input when headset is plugged and selected in pop-up window

2020-06-30 Thread Hui Wang
To fix this issue, there are 3 fixes for 3 different packages:

libgvc (no response from maintainer): https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME
/libgnome-volume-control/-/merge_requests/10

pulseaudio (rejected by maintainer):
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/merge_requests/295

gnome-control-center (upstream provided and merged a fix):
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/1033

So only got the fix for gnome-control-center so far.

I had same problem, but after removing xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and other

it got solved.
See if that helps :)

[Bug 1885393] Re: Dark theme

2020-06-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read 'How to report bugs effectively'
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

2020-06-30 Thread Dan Ste
Unfortunately, after the crash occurs and the 'something went wrong'
screen appears I cannot enter the VT. ctrl-alt-F3 makes the screen go
black and ctrl-alt-f2 reverts is to the 'something went wrong'. I took a
screenshot with PrtSc button but nothing was saved in the Pictures
Folder, but I did take a photo with my camera, just in case. I am
attaching it.

[Bug 1885452] Re: pc freezes and crashes during accountsservice upgrade on fresh ubuntu focal fossa install

2020-06-30 Thread Dan Ste
I forgot to mention that, after the "Oh no! Something has gone wrong" I also
get, in fact, logged out automatically and sent to login screen and after I
login the "Oh no! Something has gone wrong" appears again. After pressing
ctrl-alt-f3 and ctrl-alt-f2 repeatedly, the desktop appears eventually.
However, I found another interesting fix! I reinstalled ubuntu and checked:
"ask for password every time I sign in" and not as I previously selected, which
was "log in automatically". I could sudo apt upgrade with no problem, on
default GDM, no freezes, crash stalls etc.
As I previously mentioned, using LightDM is also a fix. By installing and
activating it before anything else, sudo apt upgrade runs well, but, I noticed
that when accountsservice is getting set up (on GDM it is the point when
computer crashes) the computer still freezes and flickers about 2-3 seconds,
but no crash.

[Bug 1885452] Re: pc freezes and crashes during accountsservice upgrade on fresh ubuntu focal fossa install

2020-06-30 Thread Dan Ste
Sorry for numerous messages, but I just did other things. First, I found that
checking at install "request password at logins", I was able to also install
Nvidia Drivers without any issue at all! This change basically solved all the
problems. When installing Ubuntu focal and checking "log in automatically" a
login loop was present after nvidia drivers got installed. LightDM fixed this
as it disables automatic login. Second, I run another journalctl report, this
time instantaneously at crash. Ctrl-alt-F worked by pressing it instantaneously.
Hopefully this may help. I noticed users on askubuntu complaining about login
loops after nvidia drivers install, but have not seen as a solution just to
enable password request at login screen. LightDM partly solves the situations,
but as I mentioned, when LightDM and automatic log in are activated and
accountsservice is being upgraded, the screen still flickers weirdly.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-06-30 Thread Bradley Pearce
The problems you are experiencing @mobilebackup and @agwin, are most
likely due to the way the workaround works. Correct me if I am wrong,
but the workaround is asking the graphics system to render a larger
canvas (say 2x, 8K or whatever) and scales this down to the viewport
size. If an application is not enabled for HiDPI mode, they will be
very squished. If you don't have sqaure pixels (like most of us), you
will get bad text, and if you don't check for orientation, the viewport
will break.

The reason I said this is a fab workaround, but won't hold for
production, apart from above, is we are asking the card to render a huge
area. If you move windows around or watch video with GPU decoding, the
card is going to have to move a huge amount of data around.

These are my ramblings, for whatever they are worth.

[Bug 1852441] Re: In bionic, one of the ceph packages installed causes chrony to auto-install even on lxd

2020-06-30 Thread Ponnuvel Palaniyappan
Notes:

1. `--no-install-recommends` also excludes `ceph-common` package from
getting installed which is needed (it could possibly exclude more
packages, too).

2. `ntp` isn't getting installed - it's not an issues/related any more.

So simply removing `chrony` is probably enough.

[Bug 1882217] Please test proposed package

2020-06-30 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Gianfranco, or anyone else affected,

Accepted virtualbox-guest-additions-iso into bionic-proposed. The
package will build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-guest-additions-
iso/5.2.42-1~ubuntu1.18.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

[Bug 1885579] Re: cannot add dns nm-applet

2020-06-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Could you report it upstream on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/network-manager-applet/-/issues ?

When is the save button disable? when you start entering a dns or search
domain value?

[Bug 1885452] Re: pc freezes and crashes during accountsservice upgrade on fresh ubuntu focal fossa install

2020-06-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
When did you get the log and at what time did you see the 'something
went wrong' screen? There is no obvious error in the log. When you see
the error screen could you take a screenshot, then switch to a VT (e.g
ctrl-alt-F3) and get the journalctl log from there?
