[Bug 1254085] Re: ssh fails to connect to VPN host - hangs at 'expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY'

2020-09-27 Thread mdavidsaver
I found this thread helpful, so I thought to add my experience.

In short, I have a dual band wifi router/DSL modem (Arris BGW210-700)
which seems to mess with some traffic moving between devices connected
at 2.4GHz (my SSH server) and 5GHz (my ssh client). I can avoid this by
forcing the use of 2.4GHz by both devices.

The symptom I see is the same random stalled SSH sessions as the
reporter. In my case, only about 1 in 20 attempts succeed. Adding the
various CLI arguments mentioned seems to change the probability of a
stall a little, but none eliminate it.

Running a packet capture on the client machine with wireshark, I see
that the stall is followed by a frame labeled "TCP Spurious
Retransmission" from server to client, and then some "TCP Dup ACK" from
client to server. The frame being resent has a length of only 518
bytes, well below the 1500 byte MTU.

I could successfully 'ping -s 1458 ' in both directions. Wireshark
confirms that 1500 byte frames were being sent. Still, I tried changing
the MTU on both machines to first 1400 and then 1200. This reduced the
chance of a stall to the point where SSH was almost usable.

I was puzzled at this point. I suspected the wifi router as I
previously had these machines working through a different (older)
router, but wasn't sure how the router could be involved between two
local devices. Eventually I realized that the router was bridging
traffic since the two machines were connecting to different radios.

I disabled the 5GHz radio on the router to force the client machine to
2.4GHz. At that point 20 of 20 connection attempts succeeded.

Running the client machine (my laptop) at the lower bit rate isn't a
permanent solution for me. I doubt I'll make any head way with the
router though. sigh... wonderful closed firmware.

I'll also mention a couple of other things I tried which made no
difference.

Adding "UseDNS no" to the SSH server config changed nothing.

Disabling the offloading features of the server NIC with ethtool also
changed nothing.

[Bug 1873083] Re: Lenovo Yoga C940 frequently does thermal shutdown

2020-09-27 Thread Éric St-Jean
While my problem is not exactly the same, i feel that it's so closely related
as to not warrant a separate bug.
I have a thinkpad x1 extreme gen3. Whenever i suspend, upon waking up, it shuts
down:
thermal thermal_zone3: critical temperature reached (128 C), shutting down

almost always zone3, sometimes zone4.
This is on my focal install, but i tried on a pristine focal live cd, as well
as a groovy daily live cd (from sept 26th), with the exact same result. Groovy
has thermald 2.3.

I *know* my laptop is not in overheat at that point. I can do this from
a cold laptop, on battery or on power at 100%, doing fine with
temperatures way low (~40 degC), suspend and wake up 10 seconds later
_and i still have that behavior. Whatever that sensor is reading did not
go from 40 to 128 in 10 seconds of suspend. I suspect a single bad
reading when it wakes up trips everything up.

I've tried thermal.nocrt, or thermal.crt=150, as kernel command lines
(and checked when booted that they were applied). That seems to only
impact the acpitz-acpi-0 zone, nothing else, and it still powers off
when waking up.

removing module int3403_thermal removes thermal_zone[1-8] in /sys/class/thermal
(interestingly, sensors still returns the same set, so either those zones
aren't to do with the cpu or anything else sensors returns, or sensors goes
through something else to get its values?)

and suspend now works fine.

happy to do some more digging, i'd obviously prefer to un-blacklist this
module but now at least i can suspend

[Bug 1896397] Re: [UIFe] Tweak Arabic font

2020-09-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Last change: Back to Noto Sans Arabic UI for sans-serif.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
This is a follow-up of bug #1891733. After the new default font for
Arabic had made it to focal, we got some additional feedback at
- . There seems to be a consensus to
- make these adjustments:
+ . After further discussion, trial
+ and error, and multiple changes in groovy it has landed in a consensus
+ to make these adjustments:

- * Replace "Noto Sans Arabic UI" with "Noto Naskh Arabic UI" as
- default Arabic font for sans-serif
+ * Rename the .conf file from 69- to 56-
+
+ * Drop binding="strong"

  * Drop the specification for monospace, and with that fall back
to DejaVu for Arabic monospace
+
+ The significance of the changes, which motivates the proposed SRU, is
+ made up of:
+
+ 1. Use DejaVu Sans Mono as default Arabic font for monospace
+instead of the previous non-mono font
+
+ 2. No longer conflicts with Kubuntu's custom font configuration
+
+ [Test case]
+
+ * Install the language-selector-{gnome,common} packages
+ from focal-proposed.
+
+ * Open the Language Support tool and install Arabic.
+
+ * Open a terminal window, run the below commands and confirm
+ that you get the same output:
+
+ $ LC_CTYPE=ar_EG.UTF-8 fc-match
+ NotoSansArabicUI-Regular.ttf: "Noto Sans Arabic UI" "Regular"
+ $ LC_CTYPE=ar_EG.UTF-8 fc-match monospace
+ DejaVuSansMono.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Book"
+
+ [Regression risk]
+
+ For some users this will change the default monospace font for rendering
+ Arabic. That's the point. :)
+
+ The change will only affect users with an Arabic locale. The risk that
+ other users would be affected by the change is low.

[Bug 1897492] [NEW] Fonts from fonts-3270 version 2.x look *terrible* in the terminal

2020-09-27 Thread Kevin Brown
Public bug reported:

With version 1.x of fonts-3270, the font looked good in gnome-terminal.
This is what was available in Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04.

With version 2.x of this, the fonts have changed, and are HORRIBLE
looking. The sizing of the individual letters and numbers is jumbled
somehow.

Version 1.x didn't have this problem.

I've attached a screenshot showing the terrible-looking fonts. I'll
attempt to do the same for the good-looking ones to illustrate the
issue.

I had to retrieve the original 1.x package from the older repositories
and install it in order to restore the proper appearance.

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-09-27 Thread Sujit Kumar
I enabled focal-proposed updates and upgraded 119 packages and installed
5 new ones. So far I can't see any major bugs that breaks my system so
that's good, however the pulseaudio bug isn't fixed for me.

Unpacking pulseaudio (1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.7) over
(1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.6)

This was a line while upgrading in terminal, so pulseaudio is in
1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.7

When I turn on headset, it says "Connected" and my laptop says it's
connected in Bluetooth settings, but the audio still comes out of the
laptop speakers, I have to disconnect and reconnect the headset from
settings to get the audio to go to it. This was the bug I faced before
as well.

[Bug 1895449] Re: Internet disconnected unexpectly + Xorg freeze while watching html5 video in Chrome

2020-09-27 Thread Mike Gao
Sure. I'll send dmesg to you once the issue is triggered.

The audio doesn't cause function issue. The only problem is that
sometimes volume control keys don't work but I doubt if its related to
the error. I just think since it's a LTS version, might as well submit
patches that fix the audio error message as well?

[Bug 1897487] Re: [iMac18, 1, Cirrus Logic Generic, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2020-09-27 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails with Could not configure 'libc6:i386'. , E:Could not perform immediate configuration on 'libgcc-s1:i386'

2020-09-27 Thread becky segura
Was on a version of 20.04 Xubuntu, accepted an upgrade for 20.04.1 and
then it said could only partial upgrade. I reluctantly did the partial
upgrade and after had issues with a nvidia.ko/nvidia modeset.ko mismatch
and machine would no longer boot. After several hours of trying to
purge/reinstall drivers, etc, I did a fresh install of 20.04.1 and was
directed to this page after. I, too, chose the normal install with 3rd
party updates and driver updates checked. ZFS also chosen.

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-09-27 Thread Helmut Stult
@Coiby Xu (coiby)

You are the best !!!

First of all, thank you very much for the patch - it works perfectly.
All I had to do was add the fix from @wangjun (biggerchina).

Here is the link to the working patch:
https://gitlab.manjaro.org/packages/core/linux58/-/raw/master/0304-i2c-hid-core.patch?inline=false

The kernel 5.8.12-2 of Manjaro Linux 5.8.12-2 already contains it.
I will also include it in the 5.9-rc7.

2020-09-27 Thread Bulat
Hey guys! Very excited and waited so much to the moment when this bug will be
fixed.
Any chances that the patch will be included into ubuntu mainline kernel build?
(something go wrong when I attempting to boot from the patched kernel: in the
very start says "Loading initial ramdisk" and hangs forever, tried to google
the issue, but no luck at this moment, plz contact me if you know(or have
ideas) the solution)
Thanks!

[Bug 1896085] Re: [SRU] Multiple issues with Tor Browser

2020-09-27 Thread Thomas Ward
** Summary changed:

- [SRU] Backport patch to update Tor Browser Developers public key into Ubuntu
20.04
+ [SRU] Multiple issues with Tor Browser

** Summary changed:

- [SRU] Multiple issues with Tor Browser
+ [SRU] Multiple issues with Tor Browser Launcher

** Description changed:

- [Impact]
- The torbrowser-launcher package in Ubuntu 20.04 does not work *at all* on new
installations (see bug #1856895), because of a Tor Browser Developers public
key change (old key is not valid anymore) that causes Tor Browser archive
downloaded by torbrowser-launcher when being launched for a first time to fail
verification. The included debdiff contains patch with a new key from latest
package version (that is in Debian Testing and Ubuntu Groovy) and makes the
torbrowser-launcher work again.
+ This bug is (now) a master bug for the SRU that also encompasses these
+ issues:

- [Test Case]
- 1. Use a clean, fully updated Ubuntu 20.04 system where torbrowser-launcher
was not previously installed/configured.
- 2. Install the "torbrowser-launcher" package.
- 3. Run "Tor Browser" from a desktop menu (or "torbrowser-launcher" from
terminal).
- 4. Wait for the Tor Browser archive to finish downloading, verifying and
unpacking.
+ Tor does not download and install; repeated signature verification failed:

- [Regression Potential]
- This debdiff adds just the one patch mentioned above. As mentioned, the
developer key is used only when torbrowser-launcher is launched for a first
time - to verify Tor Browser archive that is downloaded and unpacked (into
user's home) by torbrowser-launcher. torbrowser updates are then handled by
torbrowser itself, not by torbrowser-launcher. Subsequent Tor Browser updates
are handled by Tor Browser itself, not by torbrowser-launcher and work fine
even if the developer key shipped with torbrowser-launcher is incorrect. I am
not aware of any regression this change could cause.
+
+ Version checking error in torbrowser-launcher since Tor Browser 10.0 was
released:
+
+ Apparmor profile prevents Tor Browser from loading libstdc++.so.6 since Tor
Browser 10.0 was released:
+
+ torbrowser-launcher has missing gnupg dependency:

** Description changed:

[Bug 1897491] [NEW] greeter hang with 100% CPU with black display

2020-09-27 Thread Steve Arnold
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04

lightdm-gtk-greeter:
  Installed: 2.0.8-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.0.8-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.0.8-1ubuntu1 100
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.0.6-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://ports.ubuntu.com focal/universe armhf Packages

Chromebook armv7 install of focal tarball, followed by manual upgrade
and xubuntu-desktop install. Selecting lightdm display manager results
in the above behavior. Switching to gdm3 *does* work, however,
requiring a full gnome-desktop install seems to defeat the purpose of
xubuntu-desktop.

The workarounds using Memlock in the service file for lightdm have no
affect, and neither does a native arm package rebuild of 2.0.6. The one
thing that *does* work (besides switching to gnome) is building the
debian 2.0.8 package using ubuntu deb tarball. Otherwise all you get
are the log errors shown below.

The greeter log shows the following:

** Message: 19:40:54.740: Starting lightdm-gtk-greeter 2.0.6 (Sep 18

[Bug 1896349] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2020-09-27 Thread william backus
new install ubuntu 20.04.01

same audio issue, settings and pavucontrol only see hdmi audio out and not
intel hda audio
older dell desktop with 4 years previous use ubuntu. audio worked on morning of
my fresh install ubuntu 20.04.01. oddly virtualbox install ubuntu 20.04 and
other dist same linux, but broke my base machine. base machine restart and
messing with pavucontrol allowed my to select appropriate settings to restore
audio after exit virutalbox session. all else works and i do not want to risk
all my transfer/setup trying to fix this one issue, as important as it may be
to me.

just politely adding my experience to thread in case future update may
address this issue.

[Bug 893049] [NEW] Broken Inkscape Palette file on design.c.com

2020-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The Inkscape palette file that is available on design.c.com is
defective. It must have been broken while saving or something.

A more in depth explanation of the problem here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/80864/why-doesnt-inkscape-recognize-the-
ubuntu-color-palettes

As my answer says I have re-saved it in a proper format, added a readme
file explaining the installation process and compressed it into a tar.gz
which can be downloaded from the attachments.

The current archive should be replaced with my fixed version. It's
current location is here: http://design.canonical.com/the-toolkit
/ubuntu-logo-and-circle-of-friends/

The direct link to the file is here:

[Bug 1894977] Re: IBM-iobrick patches for Ubuntu 20.04

2020-09-27 Thread Terry Rudd
The Canonical Stable kernel team continues to evaluate this rather large
and quite intrusive patch set. Put simply, this does not belong on a
stable kernel directly. That said, we continue to evaluate inclusion by
way of potentially including it via an HWE kernel and porting back over
time.

[Bug 1871306] [NEW] No sound from internal card chtmax98090 - missing UCM2 files in alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.2, available in alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.3

2020-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Gabriele Tettamanzi (gabriel3):

Asus C300 (repurposed chromembook - bios flashed by Mr.Chromebox script) -
Kubuntu Focal minimal fresh installation.
The sound card is detected: I see it in the Plasma Widget, in pavucontrol, in
alsamixer and it's not muted.
I tried and add in /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtmax98090/ the old style use case
config files: no success.
I tried and unmute speakers left and right in alsamixer: no success.

I rapidly tested Ubuntu Mate Focal fresh install: I had exactly the same
issue.

I'm running on the same rig Debian Bullseye, kernel 5.4: sound card
output and input are both working perfectly - I noticed that in Kubuntu
alsamixer Kubuntu when I open it I have an entry HDA IntelPCH (the HDMI
card), while in Debian I find Pulseaudio.

I attach the alsa-info.sh output.

[Bug 1897416] Re: grub 2.04 could not boot from iso at UEFI native environment

2020-09-27 Thread Woodrow Shen
Hi can you try to add nomodeset into kernel parameter? basically 20.04
image should work with UEFI/secure boot, and that's what I did set up
for all my machines/laptops. For example, one of my machines is Intel
NUC7 and it was installed by 20.04. Or, Maybe you can update BIOS if it
has the latest version available.

[Bug 1872053] Re: Local mail is never checked

2020-09-27 Thread Karl N. Redman
I'm just piping in here to say that the issue is based on how the
login(1) program is called during the authorization process. This is
beyond the scope of gui terminals and is even once more removed from the
shell.

I've outlined a more in depth answer here:
https://askubuntu.com/a/1278257/879293

Also, I've provided a bash function that you can add to your .profile
(assuming you use 'login shell' for your terminals) that will give you
something like the behavior that you (and me as well) were seeking
relative to this thread.

Best regards.
