[Bug 1930430] Re: Apache2 Certificate Chain Verification within Proxy not Working after dist-upgrade to focal

2021-07-05 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you, I think we have everything in place to check if this is
SRUable by a backport.

@Sergio / @Athos - I missed before that this was blocked mostly on
chained/real certificates :-/ Due to other fixes that I've done I have
means to set up and drive real cerbot based tests on canonistack. I
don't want to waste Horsts work on local-tests but to make things better
I wanted to ask if we could do a joint session re-creating this so you
can in future do that as well?

[Bug 1934643] [NEW] infinite loop in patched cJSON_Minify function

2021-07-05 Thread Gabriel Zachmann
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainer,

Version 1.7.10-1.1 is the most recent version on focal. The last release
included a patch for CVE-2019-11835 (issue #338 on
upstream). However, this patch introduced a bug in the patched function
cJSON_Minify (issue #354 on upstream). There is a (potential) infinite loop in
the relevant function. The issue has been fixed in commit
08d2bc766a82cd75764d036f9efef444590d1cf9
The fix is included in newer releases, so it is included on ubuntu groovy and
newer.
I request to patch this issue on focal. The fix is very small (only two lines
of code).

The same issue arised on debian buster and the patch was applied (see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=973442 )

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 1934644] [NEW] gsettings-desktop-schemas 40 breaks workspace nagivation with gnome-shell 38

2021-07-05 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

gsettings-desktop-schemas 40 is supposed to be used with gnome-shell 40,
not 38, and hence has moved the Page_up/Down (and )
shortcuts for moving between workspaces from vertical to horizontal
settings, breaking workspace navigation in gnome-shell 38.

This commit needs to be reverted until gnome-shell 40 lands:

https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gsettings-desktop-
schemas/-/commit/a7b057cde57a6509a91fd80b492460a036a04ade

Once gnome-shell 40 lands, the revert should be reverted and Breaks:
gnome-shell (<< 40) should be added.

[Bug 1930430] Re: Apache2 Certificate Chain Verification within Proxy not Working after dist-upgrade to focal

2021-07-05 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
SRU template added to the bug in preparation to entering the SRU
process.

I've created a PPA with the identified change backported:
  https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4603/+packages

And a merge proposal along that

https://code.launchpad.net/~paelzer/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+git/apache2/+merge/405164

@Horst - if you have a test setup around verifying if that PPA indeed
helps would be awesome.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Due to https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=63679 the
+Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) fails in proxy mode.
+
+ * The fix is simple (the wrong context was checked) and is upstream for
+a while without further changes.
+
+ * Backporting that fix [1] resolves the use case
+
+ [1]: https://github.com/apache/httpd/commit/c11b1cd3b11f
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ * Autopkgtest plus the steps that were outlined in comment 8 & 9.
+
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * Apache does many things, but the change "only" affects the ssl
+engine. Therefore unexpected problems would be around any sort
+of ssl activity.
+But the way the change works is actually ont he SSLVerify path,
+so it comes down to "making ssl connections" not e.g. later SSL
+transmission behavior or throughtput.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * If we manage to get a certbot system up on canonistack (as I did in
+the past) to hit this issue we will use that testbed instead of the
+local tests.

2021-07-05 Thread Julian Andres Klode
It turns out that while there is no signed *fwupd* on xenial, there is a
signed *fwupdate*, so releasing this update would break firmware
updating after all :/

[Bug 1934648] [NEW] [Vostro 15-3568, Realtek ALC3246, Speaker, Internal] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2021-07-05 Thread Sayantan Das
Public bug reported:

Right speaker crackles while left speaker is intact.

Tried many quirks including those posted here ->
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2464361
(That OP is me only).

I also tried to position quirk as mentioned in troubleshooting guide --
didn't work.

I am yet to try to use a live boot and see if problem is hardware or
not.

[Bug 1894619] Re: [2.82 regression] router announcements have 'forever' lifetime by default

2021-07-05 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
The new NM tests were fine (even against the old dnsmasq due to the or in the
regex).
NM hit a few non related systemd test issues - I re-triggered those.
Finally I did now start the new NM tests against the blocked dnsmasq.

Overall that should hopefully resolve both and let them migrate.

[Bug 1874464] Re: NETDEV WATCHDOG: enp5s0 (r8169): transmit queue 0 timed out

2021-07-05 Thread seekerZ
I could see this issue with same Call trace pasted above with ubuntu
20.04/20.10/21.04.
Had a look at relevant kernel code and found all of them disable only ASPM L1.1
rather than ASPM completely.Rebuilt the kernel by disabling whole ASPM feature
this NETDEV WATCHDOG call trace disappears.
code hacked was like below:
pci_disable_link_state(pdev, PCIE_LINK_STATE_L1_1);//issue appears

pci_disable_link_state(pdev, PCIE_LINK_STATE_L0S |
   PCIE_LINK_STATE_L1);//issue
disappears

I believe the experiment shows there is ASPM issue with r8169 driver. Can
anyone share your view on this problem which may shed some light on the
way forward. Is there a Realtek contact window we could reach out
ot.Thanks for anyone who can help.

[Bug 1934650] [NEW] allow upgrades to hirsute for Apple hardware

2021-07-05 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Apple users were blocked from upgrading to hirsute in bug 1929449, the
underlying issue in shim has now been resolved, and they can upgrade again.

[Test plan]
Upgrade an Apple machine running groovy to hirsute

[Where problems could occur]
Apple machines could have/cause more bugs with shim interaction we have not
seen yet.

[Bug 1931565] Re: pull in latest thermald bug fixes into thermald

2021-07-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package thermald - 2.4.3-1ubuntu1

---
thermald (2.4.3-1ubuntu1) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * Pull in bug fixes between 2.4.3 and 2.4.6 (LP: #1931565)
   [Colin Ian King]
   - Fix spelling mistakes found using codespell
   [Srinivas Pandruvada]
   - Disable legacy rapl cdev when rapl-mmio is in use
This will prevent PL1/PL2 power limit from MSR based rapl, which
may not be the correct one.
   - Delete all trips from zones before psvt install
Initially zones has all the trips from sysfs, which may have wrong
settings. Instead of deleting only for matched psvt zones, delete
or all zones. In this way only zones which are in PSVT will be
 present.
   - Check for alternate names for B0D4 device
B0D4 can be named as TCPU or B0D4. So search for both names
 if failed to find one.
   - Fix error for condition names
The current code caps the max name as the last condition name,
which is "Power_Slider". So any condition more than 56 will be
printing error, with "Power_Slider" as condition name. For example
 for condition = 57: Unsupported condition 57 (Power_slider)
   - Set a very high RAPL MSR PL1 with --adaptive
After upgrading Dell Latitude 5420, again noticed performance
 degradation.
The PPCC power limit for MSR RAPL PL1 is reduced to 15W. Even though
we disable MSR RAPL with --adaptive option, it is not getting
disabled. So MSR RAPL limits still playing role.
To fix that set a very high MSR RAPL PL1 limit so that it never
causes throttling. All throttling with --adaptive option is done
 using RAPL-MMIO.
   - Special case for default PSVT
When there are no adaptive tables and only one default PSVT table
is present with just one entry with MAX type. Add one additional
entry as done for non default case.
   - Increase power limit for disabled RAPL-MMIO
Increase 100W to 200W as some desktop platform already have limit
 more than 100W.
   - Use Adaptive PPCC limits for RAPL MMIO
Set the correct device name as RAPL-MSR so that RAPL-MMIO can
also set the correct default power limits.

[Bug 1934579] Re: Nautilus crashes when opening multiple "Places" folders from launch panel

2021-07-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1931301] Re: NIC unavailable after suspend to RAM

2021-07-05 Thread Chris Chiu
It might be caused by the patch
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/a4dcfbc4ee2218abd567d81d795082d8d4afcdf6
which is the only difference between 20.10 and 21.04 kernel.

I build a test hirsute kernel in

and check if the problem still persists? Please also provide me the full

[Bug 1934520] Re: Nautilus very slow to start after 20.04 upgrade

2021-07-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!

[Bug 1874464] Re: NETDEV WATCHDOG: enp5s0 (r8169): transmit queue 0 timed out

2021-07-05 Thread Heiner Kallweit
That's why mainline r8169 disables ASPM completely. Users still have the option
to re-enable individual ASPM states per sysfs, but that's at own risk.
It's not known why and which combinations of board chipset / BIOS / NIC chipset
version have an issue when ASPM L1 is enabled. All three components may
contribute, unfortunately Realtek doesn't release errata information.

Using my ONLINE machine (which shows colorless shutter icons), I
uninstalled shutter and then ran "find / ..." both as me and
as root to find and delete every reference to shutter in the
system. I then installed shutter again -- same problem of
colorless shutter icons.

However, if I viewed my file list with the GNOME "Files" utility,
(GNOME v. 3.36.3-stable) or with Okular, the icons are colored.

So, I have a shutter problem of unknown origin. Do you have any idea
of how I might correct it?

[Bug 1908656] Re: Evolution renders email attachments for a long time

2021-07-05 Thread Bruce Pieterse
I'm seeing a similar problem occurring in Ubuntu 18.04 with Evolution
3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 with a new e-mail being composed and attaching
or detaching a local file with a size of 65KB which hangs Evolution for
about 20-30 seconds.

This problem did not occur on a previous versions of Evolution.
Additionally this is running on LTSP Fat Clients via SSH home mounts.

I'm not sure if my issue and this issue is related. Let me know if I
need to submit a new bug report instead. Happy to provide any debugging
information as well.

[Bug 1934510] Re: [MIR] fuse3 as a dependency of qemu 6.0

2021-07-05 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
[Summary]
This could be a somewhat straight forward case for the source itself.
It is a bit light on tests, but otherwise fine as it was pre-reviewed
in the former version being src:fuse.

The biggest problem is that we generally don't want duplication if we can avoid
it.
In this case I tried but qemu (as the first to pull it into main) would not be
able to work with fuse2 as an alternative.

MIR Team NACK until we can transition to fuse3 as a whole under the lead of
foundations.
Or at least consider v3 important enough to have it in main concurrently to v2.
I'll give them a call if this is on their radar at all yet.

List of specific binary packages to be promoted to main: libfuse3-3,
libfuse3-dev

Recommended TODO:
- tests should be added/improved before this is later on promoted to main
- security will have to do a re-evaluation, but that likely is rather quick
based on fuse(2) being already in main.

[Duplication]
There is the predecessor in main (same project same source older version).
It was decided in Debian to have both packaged separately - probably for
the many dependencies that still are on the old version.

$ reverse-depends --release impish src:fuse |& grep '^\*' -c
161
$ reverse-depends --release impish src:fuse3 |& grep '^\*' -c
7

There are various use cases for fuse, and the server Team is only touching
very few of them. I wonder if we should wait until fuse3 is more adopted
and then let foundations (who own fuse2) own this one as well.
They have the experience to deal with it from fuse2 already.

Note: I have tried to enable fuse(2) with the qemu build, as it first seems
that it would need 3.8 only for the hole support. But it needs fuse3 in all
cases.
Therefore we can not provide the feature as-is with fuse2.

[Dependencies]
OK:
- no other Dependencies to MIR due to this
- no -dev/-debug/-doc packages that need exclusion

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
OK:
- history of CVEs does not look concerning
Not that there would be none, but they are identical to "fuse" which
is in main.
- does not run a daemon as root
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

Problems:
- does parse data formats - as this is the very nature of what a filesystem
  does.

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- no translation present, but none needed for this case (user visible)?
- not a python/go package, no extra constraints to consider in that regard
- no new python2 dependency

Problems:
- does have a test suite that runs at build time
  - But this test suite foes not fail the build upon error.
- does not have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
- The package has no team bug subscriber (yet)

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking is in place
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Debian/Ubuntu update history is good
- the current release is packaged
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
  maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using
- is not on the lto-disabled list

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu or Upstream
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- not part of the UI for extra checks

Problems:
- use of setuid for e.g. fusermount3 binary
This is the same for fuse(2) so I guess it is fine, but this is another +1
  on needing a security review.

P.S. sorry Paride for rejecting after I did ask you to have a look at it; But
for what it is worth I can confirm the the MIR request itself was perfectly
done!

** Description changed:

Please promote the following binary packages built from src:fuse3 to
  main:

    - libfuse3-3
    - libfuse3-dev

  [Availability]

The inclusion of fuse3 in Ubuntu is fairly recent, first being imported
in Focal as a sync from Debian, however its predecessor src:fuse from
the same upstream (libfuse [1]) has been packaged in Debian since 2002,
it's already in main and has been in Ubuntu forever.

The upstream project is "the reference implementation of the Linux FUSE
(Filesystem in Userspace) interface" [1] , and can be fully trusted to
keep maintaining the package in the foreseeable future.

fuse3 is currently a sync from Debian in Focal, Groovy, Hirsute and
  Impish.

  [Rationale]

QEMU 6.0 added support for FUSE block exports, which allow mounting the
guest view of any QEMU block device node as a ho

[Bug 1934510] Re: [MIR] fuse3 as a dependency of qemu 6.0

2021-07-05 Thread Rik Mills
Kubuntu would also like to see a transition to fuse3. At the moment
fuse2 being apparently mandated on the ISOs due to platform live-common
seed (See analysis by vorlon in LP: #1916390), we are blocked from
including a couple of things on our ISO that require fuse3, as this then
breaks the ISO build. i.e. we cannot update sshfs-fuse dependency of
kdeconnect to the latest debian version requiring fuse3, and we also
cannot include kio-fuse on the ISO which upstream KDE would like distros
to install by default.

[Bug 1934381] Re: package postfix 3.5.6-1 failed to install/upgrade: installed postfix package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 75

2021-07-05 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hello,

Thanks for filing the bug and helping in making Ubuntu Server better!

>From your logs, I see:
> newaliases: fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter
> myhostname: bad parameter value: saturn..

You need to set a valid hostname. This isn't really a package bug (this
behavior is
by design), but a local configuration issue, I believe.

However, I tried to reproduce the bug as you mentioned but wasn't able
to. In a Hirsute (21.04) VM, I installed postfix, configured it as you
mentioned, did upgrade, and finally upgrade to Impish (the devel
release) but both the upgrade went fix. I used hostname=xdesk and whilst
I can confirm that it did add two dots but as I mentioned, the upgrade
went OK.

$ grep myhostname /etc/postfix/main.cf
[...]
myhostname = xdesk..
[...]

Although your log shows that this is what caused the problem, I'd like
to ask if you can help me layout a reproducer (that is, steps to
reproduce this bug) so that we can help fix this?

Also, since we are in sync with the version of postfix in Debian (that
is, 3.5.6-1)[1], can you please forward this bug report to Debian? Scott
is an active maintainer and once this is fixed there, the fix will land
here in Impish (the next release) and we can further backport (SRU) this
fix to older releases, depending upon the patch and its details, et al.
Thanks!

[Bug 1751923] Re: [SRU]_heal_instance_info_cache periodic task bases on port list from nova db, not from neutron server

2021-07-05 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
I'm a bit worried about the aforementioned regression potential here,
but I'll accept it seeing that this was accepted by the OpenStack team.
Since I'd best prefer if the SRUs were as safe as possible, offering
fallback functionality in case the system is old. I assume this would
require the additional commits cherry-picked?

Anyway, let's proceed for now.

[Bug 1751923] Please test proposed package

2021-07-05 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Maciej, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nova into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/2:17.0.13-0ubuntu3 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.
