[Bug 141265] Re: [gutsy] gnome login in to a black screen
I don't think this is a compiz issue. I installed from scratch 7.10 and everything works. Also a test account was all fine. X, compiz, keyboard, all fine. Then I took the harddisk with the /home from another 7.04 install and tried to login to those users (after updating /etc/passwd of course). I first get a popup about the X keyboard not being the gnome keyboard. I clicked use X keyboard and then I stay on blank brown screen with the mouse pointer. On the disk trackerd is indexing all my pictures. From a ps output all processes seem to run. Maybe someone can see what's going on or what's missing with this ps: george 18570 30146 0 18:35 ?00:00:00 tracker-extract /home/george/doc/picture/paf02d5cada0f974c699b6b141fd11e42/ff5002fb.jpg.orig.jpg image/jpeg george 18572 18570 0 18:35 ?00:00:00 identify -format %w;\n%h;\n%c;\n -ping /home/george/doc/picture/paf02d5cada0f974c699b6b141fd11e42/ff5002fb.jpg.orig.jpg root 18574 22798 0 18:35 pts/100:00:00 grep george george 30071 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon -d george 30076 5351 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 x-session-manager george 30113 30076 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent x-session-manager george 30115 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2 6 george 30119 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 dbus-daemon --fork --print-address 17 --print-pid 19 --session george 30121 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/gnome-control-center/gnome-settings-daemon george 30128 30076 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 metacity --sm-save-file 1112027889-5632-2218995048.ms george 30136 30076 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 bluetooth-applet george 30144 30076 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/evolution/2.12/evolution-alarm-notify george 30146 30076 16 18:18 ?00:02:37 trackerd george 30150 30076 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 nm-applet --sm-disable george 30151 30076 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 python /usr/share/system-config-printer/applet.py george 30152 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 gnome-power-manager george 30157 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/bonobo-activation/bonobo-activation-server --ac-activate --ior-output-fd=23 george 30162 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/evolution/2.12/evolution-exchange-storage --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Exchange_Connector_CalFactory:1.2 --oaf-ior-fd=17 george 30170 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/evolution/evolution-data-server-1.12 --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_DataServer_CalFactory:1.2 --oaf-ior-fd=18 george 30194 1 0 18:18 ?00:00:00 gnome-screensaver -- [gutsy] gnome login in to a black screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141265 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 141265] Re: [gutsy] gnome login in to a blank screen
what I did to make it work: move the home dir somewhere else and create a completely empty one with the same user and mode then login. it works. logout again. move everything except dot files to the working homedir. also move those dotfiles you know have nothing to do with gnome, like .mozilla etc... This means you will have to reconfigure all your nice panels. login still works. you can now do try and error: move other files, login again. But I would not try the .gnome* and similar. I did not do those trials so I don't know in the end which files contained the problem. -- [gutsy] gnome login in to a black screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141265 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm reluctant to put the crashdump up here because I don't know what's in there. -- Crashed after entering master password https://launchpad.net/bugs/71905 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 56090] Re: Regression: Webcams using pwc driver produce all-grey images
I just found out about this, wanting to urgently use my webcam. G. In camorama, the small size works (i.e. a picture, not grey). After applying the above script (thanks a lot!) I found that the script is dependent on the kernel version for the cp part. I suggest this: apt-get install module-assistant dh-make m-a prepare m-a a-i pwc newpwc=$(dpkg -L $(dpkg -l|awk '/pwc-modules/ {print $2}')|grep pwc.ko) cp $newpwc $(dirname $(dirname $(dirname $newpwc)))/media/video/pwc/pwc.ko rmmod pwc modprobe pwc Works! too bad for the 7GB disk space thrown away for the kernel source just to compile the tiny driver. -- Regression: Webcams using pwc driver produce all-grey images https://launchpad.net/bugs/56090 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 94130] Re: HTTPS over proxy fails
maybe I could provide some piece of do not reinvent the wheel. The same problem existed in perl LWP 8 years ago. Implementation was simple but yielded another supplemental problem: as soon as the proxy needs a user/password authentication there is some more code needed. So dear python folks, look into LWP and port that to urllib2 On the other hand I wonder why apport doesn't just use wget or curl, which both work fine. Fear of code injection? Well there are cookbooks out there how to pass parameters to scripts without fear of executing the parameters. [Bug 946696] [NEW] ICE pakcer different from SNDH format
Public bug reported: the audio format for SNDH Atari ST music is checked by the string ICE! But ICE is a file packer on the AtariST platform which can pack any data. If you unpack the ICE format, you get the real SNDH file which can be identified with 12 stringSNDH uncompressed atari SNDH music file If you want to keep the ICE! definition to say it's SNDH that's fine, but please add SNDH uncompressed as I showed above. One sugestions would be to add this, which works in 62% of cases for compressed SNDH: 0 string ICE! atari ICE packed data 14 search/40 NDH SNDH music file 14 search/40 TITLSNDH music file The second search is needed because ICE sometimes packes the NDH string too well, but it still shows the TITL tag :-) The rest 28% of files I found are very probably not in a proper SNDH format. They are just compatible with the player but lack a proper header. Others are packed *twice* with the ICE packer. For this I will make a bug report to the maintainer of the SNDH files archive. ** Affects: file (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946696 Title: ICE pakcer different from SNDH format To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file/+bug/946696/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 304574] Re: package nagios2-common 2.11-1ubuntu1.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I agree. I need to install Nagios on my updated system. The upgrade eliminated it (I did a fresh install with preservation of my home directory only). I'll pay close attention to the install and if I see any repeat of the problem, I'll file a new bug report with plenty of detail this time. [Bug 154418] Re: repository version much slower than website version
The same version (binary) from the website work without problem. Nevertheless, when trying to compile from the original source, I discovered that cx_freeze is needed to make binaries. As it does seem to be not available in ubuntu, the ubuntu package only contains the source .py files, which can be used directly, but are much slower. That's why the game is so slow. [Bug 223097] [NEW] python-apt should accept '@' in mirror adresses
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: python-apt It's currently impossible to use a mirror adress containing '@', which can accur when using a non anonymous ftp. To reproduce: 1) add this line to /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.mirrors : ftp://login:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ubuntu/ 2) Launch software-properties-kde (not tested with software-properties-gtk, but it should be the same) 3) Look at the list of mirrors : the one we just added isn't there. Who to solve this : python-apt can handle such url, the regular expression testing urls just doesn't allow it. In file aptsources/distinfo.py , line 132 : match_mirror_line = re.compile(r^(#LOC:.+)|(((http)|(ftp)|(rsync)|(file)|(https))://[A-Za-z/\.:\-_]+)$) juste add '@' to the allowed character. [Bug 110865] GNOME mounter rejects needed mount option
