[Bug 161951] Re: I/O lock up related kernel bug

2008-08-28 Thread Jaakan Shorter
NV GF6200 se AGP 25bMb + VIA based Chaintech MK8M800 MotherBoard seems to be an
unstable/bad combo
I think Chaintech/VIA has some Q/A issues

I had one lockup before my computer even got to boot the grub

I have since removed the Video card and using the build-in GPU and I
have not had a lock up since.

I'll retest with the new kernel if you need me to, I'm running the 8.10
on my desktop now but with the Video card pulled out...

[Bug 183917] Re: Sound stops working in Firefox once other applications (Pidgin, Rhythmbox) have played sound

2008-07-19 Thread Jaakan Shorter
Libflashsupport isnt needed at all.

I removed Libflashsupport a while back and reinstalled all of pulseaudio.
I currently have just Flash 9 install, U8.04 x64, that fixed it on both my
laptop and desktop. I don't remember if I did anything else. I might have fully
removed flash and reinstalled it too.

A guy at work did a clean install of U8.04 x64, did the updates, installed
flash.
and he has not had that issue.

[Bug 22107] Re: missing dmraid support needed to access SATA raids

2008-09-16 Thread Jaakan Shorter
At home I have a Mythbuntu box, with NVIDIA RAID and 2 extra SATA drives
waiting for 8.10 final.
My Work desktop has Intel based raid that I want to try 8.10 soon with raid.

I did get Ubuntu 8.04 x64 with raid working on a Dell Op... 755 ( my
Boss' Desktop) Intel based raid but only the first kernel from the CD
installed and booted correctly. He redid it without raid because not
being able to update the kernel is not a good thing.

-- Christopher

Was installing on your raid setup more like installing on non-raid
drives ( easy ) , or like on this howto
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto ( might be hard for the
avg user ), or in-between?

Thanks, I just found this old bug report, today, I should have looked
harder before posting but it's better to report a bug than to never
report one.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dmraid/+bug/22107 "missing dmraid
support needed to access SATA raids"
and this
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UDS-Intrepid/Report/Platform
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionReportDmraid
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DmraidSupport

I guess this a dup of #22107

[Bug 408892] [NEW] early morning Aug 4 2009 update broke networking

2009-08-04 Thread Jaakan Shorter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I ran all the updates for last and this morning and I rebooted right before I
left for work and when I got back to the desktop
the network connection icon was just spinning when it normally takes a few
seconds to make a wireless connection and less than that to make a wired
connection. I disabled my wireless drivers and rebooted with an Ethernet cable
and it just sat there spinning and never made a connection.

Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10

I can't run "apt-cache policy network-manager" ( since I'm at work right
now )

i think the version number was "0.7.1.git.5.272c6a626-0ubuntu1" but I
will not beable to check until I get home.

2009-08-05 Thread Jaakan Shorter
Disabling wireless hotkeys in BIOS majorly cuts down on flooding but
doesn't stop it.

seems to slowly flood from boot until it makes a wireless connection to
my network then flooding stops

this should help

System > Mythbuntu Control Centre > disable auto login + start front end

I log off and log back on and wait and the frontend started but this
time only once. ( it should not have started at all )

there seem to be left over settings that were not cleared from the
upgraded

More then just modules for your card don't get loaded.

NTSC/ATSC modules is are no loaded automatically at boot with my
WinTV-D PCI card. I know for a fact the NTSC part of my card works
under linux because I had KnoppMyth installed before Ubuntu and loaded
it fine.

[Bug 154052] screen resizing bug

2007-10-18 Thread Jaakan Shorter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: warzone2100

I would start playing the game. then every 5 to ten mins my screen would
change from full to windowed and then back after 10 seconds by it self.
it you killed the game when it was windowed you'd be stuck with a small
screen size + you desktop but youd have to srcoll to see it all unless X
got restarted.

I'm running 7.10 x64, NV GF6200 LE 256Mb, PC ram 512Mb, AMD64 2800+

the workaround I saw in a post was
adding a menu shortcut with "warzone2100 --resolution 1024x768" ( or what every
your current desktop size it )

** Affects: warzone2100 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 134533] Re: Warzone2100 crashes when I load a saved game

2007-10-18 Thread Jaakan Shorter
I have 2.1.0~svn1436-1 (Gusty) version installed from the Universe repo.
I'm running 7.10 x64.

I use "warzone2100 --resolution 1024x768" from a launch bar shortcut to start
the game.
due to auto size full screen to windowed small screen bug

Same thing today, save a game, quit, start up the game, hit load saved game, it
looks like its loading and crash.
I have app armor active BTW...

it's not a full crash report but I hope it can help.

[Bug 129831] total system lock up - had to power off and on

2007-08-01 Thread Jaakan Shorter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dpkg

I am marking this as dpkg but I don't think it's related
Since my system locks up 20 mins to a few hours after it's rebooted without
running updates.
I do run updates every night then reboot and just let my pc site and it will
lock up doing nothing.

this was in my syslog right before I had to power off and on my pc.

[Bug 85592] Re: failed to initialize HAL at boot up

2007-07-18 Thread Jaakan Shorter
this has just shown up in 7.10 one of the updates just after T-2

I have it set to auto-login and I get "failed to initialize HAL"
I close that window and open term and type "start hald" enter
and then got to removable media and my external USB drive mounts.

[Bug 139404] hwdb-gui can't rerun test after hardware upgrade

2007-09-13 Thread Jaakan Shorter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hwdb-client

You should be able to resubmit with hwdb-gui under these cases
1. if hwdb-gui had a bug fix
2. if you upgraded from say 7.04 to 7.10
3. if it reported a desktop when you have a laptop ( it should also ask you
Not-a-Laptop, or Laptop )
it should open up a bug report if what user says doesn't matxch what hwdb-gui
found
4 if you change any hardware

** Affects: hwdb-client (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
