[Bug 1004373] Re: Please sync rabbitmq-server 2.8.2 from Debian

2012-05-31 Thread John Lenton
We're using 2.8 from debian in a ppa (by using backportpackage) in both
lucid and precise, and it passes all our tests. A sync seems to be what
we want.

[Bug 352154] [NEW] ssh-agent stops responding

2009-03-30 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

I (and everybody on my team) have a list of 36 bzr repositories we pull
in as source deps of our project. As updating them all is very slow,
mostly due to network latency, we update them in parallel, 10 at a time,
using xargs. Something like

$ xargs -n1 -P10 ./update-repo.sh  sourcedeps.txt

where update-repo.sh does cd $1 bzr pull, and bzr uses ssh-agent to
get the ssh keys, and this is where you come in :) because since we
moved to jaunty, we're killing ssh-agent every single time we do this.
Not actually killing it; it simply stops responding: suddenly we get
these bzrs asking for the passphrase (and failing, obviously). And,

$ ssh-add
Could not open a connection to your authentication agent.

but ssh-agent is still there,

$ ps -C ssh-agent www
  PID TTY  STAT   TIME COMMAND
 3208 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/gpg-agent --daemon
--sh --write-env-file=/home/john/.gnupg/gpg-agent-info-watermeal
/usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /usr/bin/pulse-session
/usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute x-session-manager

Thanks,

[Bug 349663] [NEW] debconf options still present but not working

2009-03-27 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fontconfig

When upgrading to jaunty from intrepid, the debconf configuration
relating to bitmapped fonts stopped working (i.e. I suddenly got Vera
Sans in my terminal, rather than jmk neep alt). I did a dpkg-reconfigure
fontconfig-config, which worked in intrepid, and the option was there
but disabled. Enabling it had no effect, and on running dpkg-reconfigure
a second time I saw that my selection wasn't being stored / remembered.
I ended up finding the right way (via removing no-bitmaps from
/etc/fonts/conf.d -- thanks to asac for pointing out that I needed to
close *all* gnome-terminal windows, and that I didn't need yes-bitmaps).
The option still being present via debconf threw me off, however.

[Bug 486403] Re: U1 applet provides absurd reports on number of files to sync

2009-11-27 Thread John Lenton
Because of the way the protocol works, we don't have (at first) a full-tree
view of the changes waiting to be downloaded.
Rodney: shouldn't we be handling directories differently, and not pushing
notification messages for them? Only for files? Because we only start
downloading the files in earnest when we've gotten the whole tree (and by then,
we know for real how many files we need to get).

[Bug 481838] Re: Ubuntu One does not synchronize since 10-11-2009

2009-12-10 Thread John Lenton
Gerard,

First, on the lab computer (the one where apt-cache policy shows you using
1.1+r276-0ubuntu1~ppa1~jaunty, the jaunty version from the ppa from before you
upgraded to karmic), please do
sudo apt-get install
{python-ubuntuone-client,ubuntuone-client{,-gnome,-tools}}/karmic-updates
this will take your client versions forward to the ones in karmic.
Alternatively, if you're feeling brave (although no braver than when you did
this for jaunty), you can re-enable the ubuntuone beta ppa (but pointing it at
karmic, not jaunty). This has the additional benefit of bringing in some newer
fixes, but the added risk of being more bleeding edge.

Once that is done, please report how things go, and if things are still
broken we can schedule some 1-on-1 time to get it working again for you.

Thanks for your continuing patience,

 Well, TBH it made me loose interest in U1 so I haven't started it up in
 quite a while now. BUT if you ask me, this has something to do with
 having my ~/.tomboy folder in ~/Ubuntu\ One (reason being, I always get
 lots of .u1conflict files in there when I run U1). If it is any help to
 you I'll gladly make a copy of it and mess around. Just tell me what to
 do so it produces usable debugging info...

this bug is still live because there are situations in which the
BadTransition can be fired. The bug that had people hitting this error
_all the time_ has been fixed since 0.94 IIRC.

A lot of spurious conflict sources have been pruned since then
also. We know there still are situations where you might get a
.u1conflict, some of them avoidable, but it should be a lot less
pervasive now.

So if you could update and check, that would be awesome.

Thanks,

good!

 But an other problem is present, three big files will not upload.
 Result:
 file #1. u1conflict file is written, original file is now empty, .conflict
 file is the original.
 file #2. u1conflict empty file, original file is lost.
 file #3. one file untouched.

 At my other (client) computer three empty files are written with the
 same name as original big files.

This is another issue. Could you file it separately? Thanks!

why is the issue Critical again? Maybe I'm missing something (could

[Bug 420354] Re: BadTransition in ubuntuone-syncdaemon

2009-10-02 Thread John Lenton
I've got a branch in progress that fixes the base issue, but breaks in
other ways (so it needs more work). The work has suffered from delays
due to other (scalability) work being even more critical than this.

yes, I can confirm it's still broken.

If I start bash without the bash-completion, it works:

$ bash --norc
bash-4.0$ ls Ubuntu\ One/TAB

Pics/stats/

but if in that same shell I load in the completion,

bash-4.0$ . /etc/bash_completion
bash-4.0$ ls Ubuntu\ One/TAB

completion stops working.

 status confirmed

2009-11-13 Thread John Lenton
if the content queue has one item, when the syncdaemon gets round to
running that item the first thing it does is pop it from the queue.
So, START_WORKING_ON_CONTENT with no content pending is expected in that
situation.

[Bug 352154] [NEW] ssh-agent stops responding

2009-03-30 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

I (and everybody on my team) have a list of 36 bzr repositories we pull
in as source deps of our project. As updating them all is very slow,
mostly due to network latency, we update them in parallel, 10 at a time,
using xargs. Something like

$ xargs -n1 -P10 ./update-repo.sh  sourcedeps.txt

where update-repo.sh does cd $1 bzr pull, and bzr uses ssh-agent to
get the ssh keys, and this is where you come in :) because since we
moved to jaunty, we're killing ssh-agent every single time we do this.
Not actually killing it; it simply stops responding: suddenly we get
these bzrs asking for the passphrase (and failing, obviously). And,

$ ssh-add
Could not open a connection to your authentication agent.

but ssh-agent is still there,

$ ps -C ssh-agent www
  PID TTY  STAT   TIME COMMAND
 3208 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/gpg-agent --daemon
--sh --write-env-file=/home/john/.gnupg/gpg-agent-info-watermeal
/usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /usr/bin/pulse-session
/usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute x-session-manager

Thanks,

 As for the 3G issues, I've had similar if not the same ones. We're
 collaborating on #nm to resolve them. At the moment, and using the
 NetworkManager trunk PPA, I can get past that ppp problem if I turn off
 auto-connect.

 Let's not re-purpose this closed apport bug for your networking issues.
 I just want to let you know that the problem is being addressed, and
 invite you to participate if you still have the problem.

thank you, I appreciate it. My report was a bit of a rant :)

ubuntu-bug was _trying_ to upload the crash when I pointed it at
/var/crash/whateveritwas, but failing. I now assume it was because of
a corrupted crash file, due to concurrent kernel issues at the time of
trying to report the bug.

I got another oops last night with my modem, but no crash report. I'll
follow up in the appropriate place when/if I get something new...

Again, thanks.

apport should let me save a report for later if the upload fails, or at least
let me reuse a crash

[Bug 408870] [NEW] user switch applet is crippled

2009-08-04 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The user switch applet (gdm-user-switch-applet according to ps) only
lists lock screen, switch user and quit... actions (and quit...
pops up a window listing only log out and switch user). In Jaunty
there was a list of users, and suspend/reboot/shut down, which I rather
liked. The ability to suspend, reboot, and shut down my notebook was
quite nice. Also, I'd configured it to use up a lot less space on the
bar, and the option is now gone; it now shows my full name, which is
information I already know.

[Bug 408873] [NEW] gnome-screensaver no longer locks the screen

2009-08-04 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

The screensaver no longer locks my screen automatically. If I select lock
screen from the user switcher applet it does lock, but it never kicks in on
its own. I have configured it so it locks after a relatively short period of
time, and it worked in Jaunty, but has broken in the upgrade to Karmic.

[Bug 856547] Re: when selecting a track in the music store scope, banshee started, the right track in the music store view isn't selected

This is due to early versions of the scope forcing the store to the US
one to get results (as only we only were serving results for the US
store). To confirm this, connect to an http proxy in the US, and try
from there.
