[Bug 1359563] [NEW] Munin cron unable to start on Ubuntu Server 14.04
Public bug reported: Installed munin in a fresh Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS server. Munin version: 2.0.19-3 munin-cron fails to start. Trying to start it manually (using munin user with command: /usr/bin/munin-cron --debug) crashes with the error: not a reference at /usr/share/perl5/Munin/Master/Utils.pm line 863 Extra details about the setup is here: http://serverfault.com/questions/620846/munin-not-creating-html-files-in-ubuntu-server-14-04 Related Debian Bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=696981 Related Fedora Bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=955902 ** Affects: munin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to munin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359563 Title: Munin cron unable to start on Ubuntu Server 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/1359563/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1359563] Re: Munin cron unable to start on Ubuntu Server 14.04
I solved the problem but I'm not 100% sure what was the source of it. I tried many things to bring back the error without success. I suspect there was an -old- munin process hanging there. The server is a production server so I didn't restart it. This is why I suspect that: When I had the problem described above, I restarted munin as usual /etc/init.d/munin restart or service munin restart and also munin-node. I even purge and reinstalled munin but the problem persisted. Just few minutes ago, I copied from other server all the /etc/munin directory (with an older version of munin), so I killed all munin processes before trying again. After retrying, munin was working without issues. I thought it was something inside the configuration files but even replacing the munin directory with the previous one it worked without problem (after restarting all munin services and removing any munin process) . Summary: I probably installed munin too soon, when the server was not properly set up. After munin failed, some process might have been running which prevented munin to work correctly. Killing all munin process may have solved the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to munin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359563 Title: Munin cron unable to start on Ubuntu Server 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/1359563/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 110636] Re: hdparm - cannot set dma on IDE hard drive that works via pata
I updated from 2.6.24 to 2.6.27 (From Hardy to Intrepid) and my drives changed from hd* to sd*. Since that change, all drives are very slow (HDD and DVD). For burning a 2Gb disk it took about an hour! I have read many forums and I have tried several setups, specially with kernel options and in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules I also followed alih recommendation without any success: BEFORE: /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 858 MB in 2.00 seconds = 428.97 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 3.02 seconds = 21.19 MB/sec AFTER: /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 646 MB in 2.00 seconds = 322.90 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 3.03 seconds = 21.12 MB/sec Is there any way to change my drives to be hd* again? [Bug 110636] Re: hdparm - cannot set dma on IDE hard drive that works via pata
I kind solved my problem temporally: I added Hardy repositories and installed only 2.6.24-21-generic. I started with that kernel and my sd* became hd* and all the information/tune-up of hdparm works just fine. NOW: /dev/hda: Timing cached reads: 918 MB in 2.00 seconds = 458.69 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 98 MB in 3.10 seconds = 31.58 MB/sec And not just that, now my DVD burner in K3B can burn at 4x (before was 1x). I will look forward to solve my problem in 2.6.27 P.S. I also tried to install kernel 2.6.28 from jaunty repos but the performance was even worst! -- hdparm - cannot set dma on IDE hard drive that works via pata https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110636 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 31709] Re: Brasero, GNOME's burn:/// and K3b slow dvd burn speed
[SOLVED] I had this problem since I changed to Intrepid... I thought it was related to the emulation of sd* (instead of hd*), as hdparm couldn't be used anymore... My drive is a LG GSA-4167B which is capable of burning DVDs at 8x. It was burning at 1x! (and ubuntu became inoperable during the process). I solved it with the solution posted by Dimitris: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/31709/comments/38 I now can burn at full speed and be able to use my computer meanwhile. I have 2000+ fonts and I can confirm that is taking too much time to start. Additionally it is consuming a lot of memory. This doesn't happen in, for example, gimp. [Bug 569680] Re: Hard disk write/read freezes for 10 seconds several times in session
@Ihor : what kind of freeze are you commenting about? I have a NVidia Video Card and sincerely (and with all respect) I don't see a connection between the HDD having that kind of behavior and the video card (perhaps there is and I just don't know?). To add more information to my case, it seems to be happening only in one specific drive (I have 3). Coincidentally that drive was 99% full! (like one month ago). That drive is mounted in /home/ (I use other drive for / ). If I remember correctly I formated the drive as ext3 with -m 0. I wonder if there is some connection with the present issue... However, my drive is now 90% full and still is having that problem (described before). I hope it can point to some direction. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569680 Title: Hard disk write/read freezes for 10 seconds several times in session -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 569680] Re: Hard disk write/read freezes for 10 seconds several times in session
Suddenly I was watching a movie (reading from the HDD) and the HDD start to make strange noises. Then in few seconds was almost frozen. I ran dmesg and the same kind of errors were shown. After few more seconds I got the Kernel Panic message (and it frozen). In less than a week it have happened 3 times. I had swap files (not partition) in the problematic HDD. I downgraded the kernel to 2.6.32-24-generic and so far I have had no problems even I left the computer turned on for more than a day. Before it was happening within few hours. I'm almost sure I solved my problem temporally. if someone else could confirm the same behavior, then it could be easier to see which differences were made in the kernel between those versions.

[Bug 41427] Re: slow keys can turn on surreptitiously cause confusion.
Sorry, I had to set this to confirmed as I think is a problem that affects many people. The only request that many of us are doing is to disable this function as default. This is my story: Using: Xubuntu Quantal 32bits I use one of my servers remotely using x11vnc + remmina. Sometimes it happens to me that one (virtual) key get stuck during the session (As it happens rarely, and it is fixed just by restarting the service, I'm not really bothered about it). While sometimes is an ALT key, a letter (easy to spot), this time was SHIFT. This triggered Slow Keys function automatically at the server (I was unable to see the notification). After that, I spent almost 2 weeks having really hard time operating it remotely. Fist I thought the remmina was not sending any keys. After trying other client without success, I blamed x11vnc. I spent a lot of time searching in x11vnc forums for an answer, tried all possible parameters, and nothing. It was driving me crazy!. I noticed that the key was actually being sent (debug with xev) but the key was not resolved. Anyway, it was very confusing. After vacations, somehow it was fixed (probably after an update-restart). I didn't know what exactly happened until few minutes ago, that I was working on (physically) on the same server and I holded SHIFT key while I was thinking a piece of code. I was able to see the message this time! (XFCE notifications are set to show for 10 secs but it dissapeared after 1 or 2 secs :S ). After googling it (with some input difficulties), I finally learned about slow keys and how to disable it. If I weren't looking at the screen at that right moment, I don't know how much time I could have spent trying to figure it out what was going on (again). I consider myself an experienced user, so I can imagine what inexperienced users may suffer with this kind of automatic feature. I sum my voice to all the people listed here (and to all of them that still don't know why their keyboard responses are delayed), to please disable the hold-shift-key-N-secs-to-slow-keys functionallity.
-- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359563 Title: Munin cron unable to start on Ubuntu Server 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/munin/+bug/1359563/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 418242] Re: Incorrect call to output plugins (with persistent error message) on copy
Running inkscape 0.91 in Xfce4 and Netbeans. I wouldn't suggest to just run the script from the comment #37. What that script does is to comment some "fixed" range of lines in 3 scripts: gimp_xcf.py, jessyInk_export.py and uniconv_output.py (located at: /usr/share/inkscape/extensions/). However it seems those files may be different depending on your version (as in mine, those lines didn't match correctly and produces broken code). I strongly suggest to backup your files if you want to give that script a try. If you want to do the dirty job by yourself, this is what I did: Comment (using "#" at the beginning of the line) this line at "uniconv_output.py": # sys.stderr.write(msg + "\n") Comment these 2 lines at "jessyInk_export.py": # if len(exportNodes) < 1: # sys.stderr.write("No layers found.") Comment this line at "gimp_xcf.py": # inkex.errormsg(_('This extension requires at least one non empty layer.')) Give it a try. In my case that wasn't enough (as I have additional plugins), but if you see an error message, copy that message and do a " grep '' * " in the /usr/share/inkscape/extensions/ directory. As before, comment any "inkex.errormsg" that may come up. For example, I had to comment a line in "plotter.py" and "hpgl_output.py" scripts (same line): # inkex.errormsg(_("No paths where found. Please convert all objects you want to plot into paths.")) I hope that helps. I wish there were a "Disable warnings" somewhere in the options so we didn't have to do this kind of hacks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418242 Title: Incorrect call to output plugins (with persistent error message) on copy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/418242/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 500069] Re: USB file transfer causes system freezes; ops take hours instead of minutes
@garzie2000 Do you really expect people to do magic and fix a bug without proper logging? This seems to work different for all people, in my case USB transfers are fine, but seems like the people affected cannot submit a bug properly for the people who can fix it, and the people who can fix it, cannot reproduce the bug because their USB transfers are fine. Everybody claims that only copying data from the hard drive to the USB is sufficient to reproduce the bug, but that's not the case, a benchmarking from an affected system is necessary to do a fair comparison and try to find the cause of the issue.
