[Bug 900901]

2012-02-29 Thread Mateusz-stachowski
I have the same version of gcc 4.6.1 ($ gcc --version gcc (Ubuntu/Linaro
4.6.1-9ubuntu3) 4.6.1) and I've compiled wine-1.4-rc5 with and without
additional flags.

The version compiled without flags doesn't work with Steam in-game
overlay, but the second one works. I've used those flags:

CFLAGS=-O3 -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -fomit-frame-pointer -ffunction-
sections -fdata-sections -maccumulate-outgoing-args -mno-push-args
-freorder-blocks-and-partition LDFLAGS=-s

This means that the gcc bug is still present, because the old gcc 4.5 ($
gcc-4.5 --version gcc-4.5 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.3-9ubuntu1) 4.5.4) doesn't
need any extra flags for working overlay.

[Bug 814799] Re: It is possible to create a new tab on the desktop window with Ctrl + T

2011-10-02 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
The 'CTRL+T' shortcut still opens new tab and makes it very confusing
(for newcomers). That's with Nautilus 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu5. It should be
noted that this behaviour doesn't break the desktop, because you can
close that new tab (just right click on it and you will see close tab
option).

[Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint with Nvidia after upgrading to 11.2

2012-04-01 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I had the same problem on Ubuntu 11.10 (adobe-flashplugin
11.2.202.228-0oneiric1) and nVidia GeForce 9600 GT.

sudo mkdir /etc/adobe
echo -e EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1\nOverrideGPUValidation=true | sudo tee
/etc/adobe/mms.cfg /dev/null

Those commands resolved it no more problems with colors.

[Bug 900901] Re: Steam overlay does not work due to GCC-4.6 issues

2012-01-01 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I've tested that package (from oneiric-proposed) and it works with Steam
overlay enabled, but that version of wine had also other problems. There
was a bug with x cursor always visible in center of the screen:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27779. That bug was fixed in
1.3.33 (that version still needs gcc 4.5 compilation and newer ones).

I also have these problems with your indicator. It mostly works good but
there are times that it doesn't show up on the panel. I can see that it

[Bug 734908] Re: Unity is visible on top of fullscreen apps

2012-09-03 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I'm using 12.04 and I don't have problems with running games in
fullscreen (native and Wine). I'm using Unity from the SRU PPA and I
have proposed updates enabled.

You should use CompizConfig Settings Manager and enable Legacy
Fullscreen Support it's in Tools = Workarounds.

I remember that this option worked even before Precise was released.

[Bug 1239710] Re: indicator-datetime or -session missing ~10% of the time

I installed those two packages long ago even before they landed in
saucy-proposed. I simply downloaded them from SRU Staging PPA and so far
everything worked.

Unfortunately today indicator-datetime didn't load. I think that there
was about 30 successful boots (checking disks on Plymouth screen) since
I installed the packages that supposedly fix the problem.

[Bug 890747] Re: Keyboard shortcut - Ctrl Alt Del doesn't do what most people typing it would expect

2013-09-28 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I'm testing a Live image of 13.10 and that shortcut still brings log out
screen.

Everything related to Compiz and Unity is updated. Looking at the
changelog of Compiz there should be two files presumably in
/usr/share/compiz directory but I only have one commands.xml.

There's no sign of integrated.xml file even after installing compiz-
plugins package. Looking at the contents of compiz-plugins-default
package I also can't fing integrated.xml file. The commands plugin is
enabled and the shortcut is set for command 20.

[Bug 1203355] Re: Session menu has both 'restart' 'shutdown' options though both open the same dialog window

2013-10-21 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Those of you that wish to remove that unnecessary Restart option can use
a workaround. First install dconf-editor and then launch it from
commands lens Alt+F2 and navigate to:

appsindicator-session

and then simply check suppress-restart-menuitem and the annoying and
redundant Restart option will disappear.

Anyway I think that if this option was added intentionally it should
behave like the bug reporter mentioned.

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-25 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I upgraded to 13.10 in time of Final Beta release and I observed a much
higher use of RAM compared to 13.04. This is very bad to the point that
my SWAP which is 4 GB (6 GB of DDR2 RAM) becomes filled sometimes and is
always used in more than 2 GB after couple hours.

I've noticed that unity-panel-service uses large portions of RAM in one
case it was 1 GB but also I'm observing today unity-sope-home using 390
MB. Also running the command mentioned earlier:

watch -n 0,5 ps -o rss= `pgrep unity-panel`

I see that the value goes up and up and it doesn't stop. Also when
looking at terminal opened with this and using the menus of programs and
indicators the numbers start to rise up like crazy and they don't go
down.

Software Center detects now changes properly in Saucy with software-

Although after the arrows in USC stop spinning it takes a very long time

in updated list and this also takes a very long time. On my PC it's
about two minutes after the arrows stopped spinning.

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-28 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
The worst impact on unity-panel-service have programs that are heavy in
menus department. People already mentioned Gimp, Inkscape, LibreOffice
and Sublime Text 3 and I would also add Geany to that list. You launch
any of this programs and the unity-panel-service increases it's memory
usage and hovering on the menus makes things even worse.

I discovered something that most likely decreased RAM usage of unity-
panel-service in my case. Since I upgraded to 13.10 some of my
indicators (Weather-Indicator and Syspeek) displayed only part of their
menu. I've finally found a way to bring back the missing menu items and
apparently it had a big impact on u-p-s because now in worst moments
it's about 80 MiB in Gnome System Monitor and before it would be as high
as 200 MiB.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-14 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
The packages from the Modifier-only input switch PPA work very well in
case of Unity.

I've tried all the mentioned test cases and everything worked. The Ctrl
+ Shift L set as next source shortcut doesn't collide with Terminal
shortcuts or Sublime Text 3 or LibreOffice. Also if I have Text Entry
settings open and I issue the gsettings command in terminal the shortcut
changes in those settings immediately (reflecting that change).

I don't have any other DE's except for Cairo Dock which has it's own
session but I didn't check how it works in that.

[Bug 1077822] Re: 3.7 kernels do not boot

2013-01-16 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I installed today 3.8rc3 from Mainline Kernel PPA and it booted
succesfully. There also was no problem with building the modules [NVIDIA
313.09, VirtualBox 4.2.6 and OSS v4.2 build 2007 (Open Sound System)].

That's the first kernel after the 3.5 series that works on my machine
(3.8rc1 and rc2 won't boot).

Ubuntu 12.10 64-bits
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ × 2

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu

2013-12-04 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
The patch provided by Ryan Koesters works when applied to Unity in
13.10.

I've build Unity and then I had a new GSettings option. When I checked
that menubar-always-visible the global menu became visible all the time
for all programs.

This should be available in 14.04 LTS for the people that don't like the
default hiding of global menu. Of course it would be even better if this
could be toggled from Appearance settings instead of dconf-editor.

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu

2013-12-08 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
@Ryan Koesters: I've build today Unity and unity-control-center with
your patches on Ubuntu 14.04 both worked without problems. I had to
manually specify the files to patch unity-control-center because I
probably used wrong -p option:

patch -p1

To install the packages I had to remove gnome-control-center-unity
because it was in conflict with this new unity-control-center. This is
screenshot of u-c-c with always show the global menu bar option.

http://ubuntuone.com/1JH80LwIm4Su2OM6gkYK5i

I had troubles with building the current Unity for 14.04 but not because
of your patches so I used the daily build from Unity daily stack
preparation PPA.

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-unity/+archive/daily-build

Your patch applied successfully but there were some offsets. Packages
for Unity build without problems. When I installed new unity and
libunity-core packages I had the menubar-always-visible option in dconf
Editor.

[Bug 1247798] Re: unity-scope-home memory leak in 13.10

2014-01-12 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I have upgraded to 14.04 (development branch) in the first week of 2014.
I decided to enable Clementine scope and check if it's still leaks
memory.

Since then I've searched in Dash multiple times for different things,
including my music and I didn't have any problems with memory leaks. The
python3 process that represents Clementine scope never used more than 24
MiB and as soon as I stop using Dash it dissapears (freeing resources).

[Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version

2013-12-11 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I've recently build unity-contol-center on my own to test a patch that
adds option for always showing the global menu (it also needs patched
Unity).

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/682788 (that patches are
attached here)

When I tried to install those packages there was one conflict with
gnome-control-center-unity package so I removed it and installed u-c-c
without removing other gnome-control-center packages.

[Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version

2013-12-12 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
After installing todays packages from PPA I observed several problems.

The icon in the launcher still doesn't launch u-c-c but gnome-control-
center.

The dimensions of the u-c-c are not as they supposed to be and the
window is wider but the height remains unchainged from the dafault.

I couldn't use Privacy and Online Accounts settings. When I clicked
their icons the settings didn't load only the location bar changed.

When I closed the u-c-c window it opened again and again and again.

[Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version

2013-12-15 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Now the icon launcher starts unity-control-center but if I launch
System settings... from the indicator there are two icons on the
launcher.

I've seen on the mailing lists that translations have been imported but
apparently not all of them. I checked with my native language which is
Polish and u-c-c doesn't have all the translated texts that are in
g-c-c. I've made three example screenshots for each of the Control
Centers.

http://ubuntuone.com/51mNx0hjWTVxWKJtmmNwq4

There is also a screenshot which shows that when I search in Unity Dash
for Privacy settings I get not only the Unity settings but also Gnome.
Settings for Gnome shouldn't appear in Dash.

[Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version

2013-12-19 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I purged the PPA today and reinstalled it again because you asked for it
in mailing list.

Normally the translations are there for this labels in System
settings...

All settings
Appearance

but in unity-control-center I don't see the Polish labels. Also all the
labels in Appearance settings still display in English language but
normally they are translated. There is one label in Brightness and
blocking settings still in English.

The rest of the labels display properly in Polish except Text Entry and
Backup (which looks different than in 13.10) but that isn't translated
normally.

The settings for Online Accounts and Privacy finally work but clicking
on the latter results in window becoming to wide and it also crashed.

2013-12-25 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
If these change should ever be considered to include in 14.04 LTS it
needs a one more edit to be made to the mentioned file.

This line should be commented out with #

widget *.gtk-combobox-popup-menu.* style
menuitem_text_is_fg_color_workaround

otherwise the menus in some programs are unreadable. GParted and Tomboy

[Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white

2013-08-11 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
The PPA mentioned in comment #190 doesn't try to remove Unity anymore
and is functional for Raring. I installed the updated packages from this
PPA but unfortunately it didn't reslove the bug.

I've noticed that the blank windows are only a problem for windowed
programs. If I minimize maximized program and follow the procedure to
reproduce the bug I don't get blank white window. If I do the same for
windowed program it results in blank white window.

[Bug 1032276] Re: [nvidia] Graphics freeze when I close or minimize a window

2013-08-13 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I too have this bug and I can confirm that it's related to Compiz
drawing the desktop (Nautilus show desktop disabled).

I have it in 13.04 and 13.10 running in VirtualBox and also booting the
ISO image with Grub entry created by grml-rescueboot. It happens with
NVIDIA drivers (tested on 13.04) and Nouveau, LLVMpipe and VirtualBox
drivers (tested on 13.10).

The easiest way to reproduce this bug is to open terminal (it must be
the only visible window). Then type nautilus -q which will temporarily
kill Nautilus (desktop will be rendered with Compiz). The last step
minimize or close terminal window.

This results in animation hang and entire desktop hang. Unity doesn't
respond on keys being pressed (Super, Alt (Tap), Alt + F2 or F10). When
the desktop finally returns to normal I see all those actions that I
triggered before (Dash opening, HUD opening and so on).

[Bug 1212712] [NEW] Right click menus background white when using Ambiance theme

2013-08-15 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Public bug reported:

Now that the Bug #1118838 has been fixed in Saucy I think that there is
still one thing that should be changed for Ambiance.

When you right click in Firefox on a webpage the menu background is
white the same goes for it's tabs. Also right click menu on any window
decoration has white background.

To make those backgrounds black:

1. Open /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc with your prefered text editor
2. Search for line containing: style menu
3. Add this after: = dark
4. The whole line should look like this: style menu = dark {
5. Save the changes and change the theme to Radiance and back to Ambiance to
apply new background color

[Bug 1212163] Re: Visible lag and pauses using Mir on nouveau

2013-09-01 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I don't have problems with input lag using packages from proposed
0.0.10+13.10.20130830.1-0ubuntu1 with daily image synced to the latest
30 August release. There is still abnormally high fps in glxgears or
es2gears and mir_demo_client_egltriangle. There is also screen tearing.

Surprisingly the packages labeled as 0.0.10+13.10.20130829.2-0ubuntu1
which are in the universe repo result in unusable Unity desktop on my
graphic card.

I have made a posts describing above results in more detail on Ubuntu
Discourse.

[Bug 1153350] Re: LibreOffice4 Global Menu Items Do Not Highlight on Mouse Hover

2013-06-27 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Unfortunately I to have some problems when opening a document directly
from Nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running (like in bug
#1064962).

Global menubar items work in that case but some of them are quite
problematic. I had problems with fullscreen option and print preview.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a document directly from Nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running
2. Switch to print preview
3. Turn off the print preview
4. Try to open a menu

The menu doesn't open. I can see everything in global menu bar but
clicking doesn't bring the full view. Trying to use menu again works as
expected.

[Bug 911706] Re: USC relies on NM to be online, can't force online if not using NM

2013-01-08 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
USC runs that ping test only when Network Manager service is disabled.

I can disable upstart job for NM (it's upstart so rcconf won't help
here) and then it doesn't interfere with USC and Ubuntu One online
status (the connection is managed by WvDial).

End users shouldn't be requiered to do all of that just to get working
two default Ubuntu programs. Most of them won't even know why this
things don't work. I myself use Synaptic but when I launched USC and the
install buttons were dimmed I was very confused and I didn't know why
it's like that.

The exact steps are as follows (connected through WvDial):

- Network Manager service is enabled and running
- open terminal and use this command software-center 21 | tee
USC_network_manager.log
- USC install buttons are dimmed and there is information about no internet
connection
- there was no ping test

USC_network_manager.log

- Network Manager service is stopped
- open terminal and use this command software-center 21 | tee
USC_only_wvdial.log
- USC is online and all the functions work
- there was a ping test

USC_only_wvdial.log

2013-01-08 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I wonder if this will work with 3.7 and 3.8 kernels because for example
NVIDIA and VirtualBox needed some fixes for building modules with those
kernels.

The 3.7 kernels don't boot on my machine (known problem for AMD
processors) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1077822

The 3.8rc2 from Ubuntu Mainline Kernels won't build modules for NVIDIA
(Beta driver 313.09 from xorg-edgers PPA) so I can't test it either.

I'm also using self compiled package of OSSv4 because that way I have
the freshest code (even though the last change was 10 moths ago) and I
can enable Production quality resampler in vmix.

I know that version.h file was moved from:

/include/linux/version.h

to

/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h

Heads up - linux 3.7-rc* header file reorg - nV News Forums
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2578811#post2578811

I don't know if those changes affect also OSSv4 kernel modules building
procedure but people that can actually boot kernels newer than 3.5
should check that before it will be too late for Raring / 13.04.

[Bug 911706] Re: USC relies on NM to be online, can't force online if not using NM

2013-01-10 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
The problem is that no other programs require to disable Network Manager
service to function properly.

I've mentioned it before all of the browsers (besides default Firefox)
work when connected through WvDial and NM service running. Thunderbird
works and downloads mails without interference in it's offline settings.
Transmission have no problems with downloads nor do qBittorrent or wget,
gPodder, Steam (native and Wine), Desura / Desurium (native and Wine).

This means that the only programs that don't work when internet
connection is managed through something other than Network Manager (and
the service is running, which is default setting) are the ones installed
with every Ubuntu. USC has the ping status checker but it's of no use
because it only runs with NM disabled. Ubuntu One and Firefox don't have
any kind of online status checker and they simply assume that if there
is nothing in NM then user doesn't have internet connection. How can
anybody think that this things are right is beyond my imagination.

Ubuntu Software Center and Ubuntu One have serious design flaws if they
stupidly rely on one program for providing online status information.

[Bug 911706] Re: USC relies on NM to be online, can't force online if not using NM

2013-01-12 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Funny thing that there are multiple programs that can be used to connect
the type of internet dial-up I'm using for Windows. There are also
problems for Windows users to get auto-reconnect working the tutorials
for configuring it look more complicated than WvDial configuration
(atleast from my perspective because Windows users think differently).

http://translate.google.pl/translate?sl=pltl=enjs=nprev=_thl=plie=UTF-8eotf=1u=http%3A%2F%2Fjdtech.pl%2F2011%2F08%2Faero2-%E2%80%93
-automatyczne-wznawianie-polaczen.html (Aero2 - Automatic resume
calls)

Programs mentioned in the article (including the comments section):

HUAWEI Mobile Partner (which also has a Linux native version)
Top_NetInfo
AutoConnect
aero2auto-reconnect

I assume that people using those programs on Windows should have the
same kind of problems that Ubuntu gives when not using the system
integrated solution.

[Bug 911706] Re: USC relies on NM to be online, can't force online if not using NM

2013-01-01 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Why this bug has status Fix Released when it's clearly not resolved.
Obviously Ubuntu developers think that users should search for half-assed
workarounds
on forums and bugtrackers.

I'm using wvdial for my connection because it's a better option. My internet
disconnects
once an hour passed and then I have to make new connection (it's a free
internet and this is one
of it's limitations the other is 60 KB/s max).

NetworkManager in this case requiers baby sitting. While wvdial connects
automatically.
With NM I have to put out the modem than plug it in and make a connection.

http://dug.net.pl/tekst/197/aero2_z_modemem_huawei_e3131/

http://translate.google.pl/translate?sl=pltl=enjs=nprev=_thl=plie=UTF-8eotf=1u=http%3A%2F%2Fdug.net.pl%2Ftekst%2F197%2Faero2_z_modemem_huawei_e3131%2F
(the same site as above translated with Google)

Ubuntu Software Center isn't the only program with this bug. Ubuntu One Client
also doesn't work
with wvdial until I run sudo stop network-manager (it doesn't sync files).

I'm writing that from Ubuntu 12.10 fully updated with proposed
actualisations enabled.

[Bug 972821] Re: [oneiric-proposed] linux-image-3.0.0-18-generic makes apport-gtk and chromium-browser segfault on startup

2012-04-08 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Those new kernels broke my Open Sound System (OSSv4 4.2-2006)
installation and VirtualBox. I had to make a chroot environment to build
working modules. I'm writing those because both 3.0.0-18 and 3.0.0-19
are responsible for building bad kernel modules.

$ lsmod
Module Size Used by
oss_usb 116131 3
oss_hdaudio 148247 7
osscore 561053 4 oss_usb,oss_hdaudio
rfcomm 38408 0
bnep 17923 2
bluetooth 148869 10 rfcomm,bnep
pci_stub 12550 0
vboxpci32018 1 [permanent]
vboxnetadp 13328 0 [permanent]
vboxnetflt 27252 0 [permanent]
vboxdrv 256347 3 vboxpci,vboxnetadp,vboxnetflt,[permanent]
...
nvidia 10941552 112 [permanent]
...

You can see that some kernel modules are builded as [permanent] which is
not the way it should be (that's with oss modules copied from chroot).

I've struggled to get my sound back for two or three days and I've found
solution on VirtualBox bugzilla:
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/9891#comment:12

I've also posted it on Open Sound System forums:

[Bug 978678]

2012-05-28 Thread Mateusz-stachowski
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 which is updated day by day (proposed
actualisations enabled) and I'm experiencing this bug. In my case it
affects two games:

StarCraft II Demo
Portal 2

Running echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope before
starting those resloves this issue.

[Bug 988079] Re: Much slower OpenGL frame rates with unityshell loaded, than plain compiz

2012-08-18 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I've installed Unity from the SRU PPA and it improved performence
greatly but it's still far from what it should be.

glmark2 and glxgears run without problems. glmark2 reports in every
result more than 2 thousand fps while glxgears as expected about 60 fps.

Unfortunately in the Heaven 3.0 benchmark the performance is terrible
compared to Gnome Shell and E17 Ecomorph.

I'm also having problems with sound (Open Sound System v4.2-2006) while running
this Unigine benchmark (stuttering) and they only occur in Unity. The same goes
for games run through Wine but even native Trine 2.

I'm sorry that I don't provide results for Gnome Classic with Compiz but
it's because when I select it in LightDM the thing that shows up is
Gnome panels and Unity Dock. I think it's not the way it supposed to be.

[Bug 988079] Re: Much slower OpenGL frame rates with unityshell loaded, than plain compiz

2012-08-28 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I solved my problem with Gnome Classic and unwanted Unity dock showing
in this session. I just disabled Unity Plugin in CompizConfig.

I've tested Unity from the SRU PPA (5.14.0+bzr2400ubuntu0+704) against
Gnome Classic with Compiz (1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4).

Sync To VBlank - disabled
Unredirect fullscreen windows - enabled

I tested the following benchmarks Unigine Sanctuary 2.3 (fullscreen 1920
x 1080), Unigine Tropics 1.3 (fullscreen 1920 x 1080), Unigine Heaven
3.0 (fullscreen 1280 x 1024) and the results were the same for Unity and
Gnome Classic (Compiz).

However when running Heaven benchmark in fullscreen 1920 x 1080 Unity
was slower than pure Compiz.

Unity Gnome Classic (Compiz)
8.1 13.2
203 333
3.9 8.3
17.429.1

This was true for every time I run Heaven 3.0 in this screen resolution.
Unity in this case is always slower than pure Compiz.

[Bug 1288747] Re: [334] Parts of the UI randomly flicker when moving the mouse

2014-06-25 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I have 9600 GT and don't have this bug. I'm using 337 drivers and
currently updating to 340. Also I have proposed enabled on 14.04 LTS.

Everything here is smooth but I had some flickering launcher tooltips in
Unity. This happens very, very rarely and I don't know what triggers it
exactly.

I noticed that people here have newer NVIDIA GPU. Maybe this only
happens for some of those newer architecture graphics cards.

[Bug 1296090] [NEW] Package and release the latest usb-modeswitch in Trusty

2014-03-22 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Public bug reported:

The upstream released new versions of usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-
data on January 28th and 29th 2014.

http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/

This version supports many more usb modems than the one currently
available in Trusty besides those packages haven't been updated for a
very, very long time in Ubuntu.

The packages are already available in Debian Testing and Unstable.

https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=usb-modeswitch

Besides that the maintainer of the USB_ModeSwitch Debian package has set
up a PPA providing this most recent release.

https://launchpad.net/~odyx/+archive/usb-modeswitch

NOTE: there is also a similar bug report from users that want the latest
usb-modeswitch on Trusty.

[Bug 1314294] [NEW] You can get access to Terminal from lock screen by bypassing it with right click on indicators

2014-04-29 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
Public bug reported:

As the title says you can bypass lock screen by right clicking on
indicators several times and if you had Terminal window opened and
focused you can issue commands.

How to reproduce:

1. Open Terminal and play some music with mplayer
2. Lock the screen using one of the shortcuts (Super+L or Ctrl+Alt+L)
3. Right click a couple times on keyboard indicator
4. Now you can use Ctrl+C shortcut to stop your mplayer playing music in
Terminal and issue any command you want. You can also open another Terminal
window.

I had no problem to start this way synaptic with synaptic-pkexec command
and then typing my password. This all went to Unity under lock screen.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-05-01 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
@LGB [Gábor Lénárt] that you don't see input field doesn't mean that you
can't type password and unlock the screen.

I was trying to reproduce a bug that some people described about
fullscreen YouTube videos showing on top of Unity lock screen. I managed
to get once a screen locked which would flash and without text input
field visible just like on your screenshot but I just typed my password
and unlock normally.

[Bug 1308265] Re: First password letter not registered in lockscreen if screen off

2014-05-01 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I couldn't reproduce that today with fully updated 14.04 LTS.

$ apt-cache policy unity
unity:
  Zainstalowana: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2
  Kandydująca: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2
  Tabela wersji:
 *** 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2 0
500 http://ftp.vectranet.pl/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main amd64 Packages
500 http://ftp.vectranet.pl/ubuntu/ trusty-security/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 7.2.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ftp.vectranet.pl/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages

My password starts with big letter so I use Shift and then the letter
key and screen unlocked without any problems.

[Bug 1292217] Re: screen lock has triggered but keyboard is still connected to the main session

2014-05-01 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
@Dave Jones the problem that you describe is almost certainly already
reported as:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1305586 (Lock screen is unusable
when some windows have a keyboard/mouse grab)

I also think that this bug is a duplicate of Bug #1305586.
