[Bug 944040] Re: Cannot connect to RDP if host fingerprint changes

2015-01-27 Thread Mossroy
I faced this issue one more time, and I had forgotten the workaround in
between...

At least Remmina should display a meaningfull error message, sot that
the user does not suspect something completely different (like the
remote server being down)

[Bug 944040] Re: Cannot connect to RDP if host fingerprint changes

2015-01-27 Thread Mossroy
I also confirm that I had this issue without any Ubuntu upgrade, on Ubuntu
14.04 (with latest updates).
Maybe the cause might be an update of Windows itself, that would have modified
the OS signature?

I had this issue during a simple upgrade.

It looks like the downloaded .deb file was corrupted.

and then reinstall it :
sudo apt-get install --reinstall liboxideqtcore0

Maybe the sudo apt-get clean would have worked too.
In any case, I found a workaround (see bug description).

It was not a bug in the package itself, but the update manager
downloaded a corrupt file

[Bug 1311247] Re: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue

2015-10-24 Thread Mossroy
I successfully tested this patch.

Here is what I did :
- enabled proposed repository
- ran the following command-line (it might not be the same on different
hardware) :
sudo apt-get install grub-pc
On my computer (no UEFI), it upgraded the following packages :
grub-common grub-pc grub-pc-bin grub2-common
- disabled proposed repository
- rebooted the computer (and pray ;-) ) : no error message
- rebooted the computer more than 20 more times (with some cold reboots, with
and without displaying the grub menu, and after playing with memtest86, too) :
no error message
- checked that the version displayed in the grub menu is 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.4

So I'd say it really fixed the issue for me, with no side effect.
I don't know what happened in bug 1507175 , but I did not have this issue.
I'm not sure if I should replace the verification-failed tag, but I'll add a
verification-done one.
As grub is a very critical piece of software, I would be more confident if some
other persons confirm it's working for them too.

NB : I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.3 (64bit) on an Asus Eee PC 1015PX

[Bug 1610241] [NEW] Failed upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 : package sysv-rc 2.88dsf-59.3ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-08-05 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

This happened on an computer that was installed many years ago, and upgraded on
each LTS version.
When upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04.1, it started telling me that something
wrong happened with sysv-rc, then that there were some "initscripts dependency
problems" making it "leaving unconfigured".
Then many packages were reported as incorrectly setup : procps, udev,
initramfs, keyboard-configuration, console-setup, plymouth, cups, upower,
gnome-session, gnome-shell, udisk, gvfs, software-center, mountall, upstart,
etc.

After reading the log files, I found out that this was caused by insserv,
reporting "insserv rejected the script header", coming from package
virtuoso-nepomuk having an incorrect header in /etc/init.d : "missing end of
LSB comment", "missing LSB tags and overrides".
This package http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/database/virtuoso-nepomuk was
existing on 12.04, but was removed afterwards.
The latest version 6.1.4+dfsg1-0ubuntu1 indeed contains an incorrect header in
/etc/init.d/virtuoso-nepomuk.

I managed to solve the issue by adding the "END INIT INFO" in this file,
like below :

#! /bin/sh
#
# virtuoso OpenLink Virtuoso Open-Source Edition
#
# Written by OpenLink Virtuoso Maintainer
#
#
# Version: @(#)virtuoso 6.1.4 25-Mar-2011vos.ad...@openlinksw.com
#

### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: virtuoso
# Required-Start: $syslog
# Required-Stop:$syslog
# Default-Start:2 3 4 5
# Default-Stop: 0 1 6
# Short-Description:Start Virtuoso database server on startup
# Description: Start and stop the primary instance of Virtuoso running
# in /var/lib/virtuoso/db/. The first time this runs, it loads the
# Conductor administrative package.
### END INIT INFO

Then a "sudo apt-get upgrade" allowed me to finish the installation
successfully.

2016-08-19 Thread Mossroy
A simple way to fix this would be to deploy a newer version of virtuoso-
nepomuk for Trusty (or for Xenial, depending on the order of upgrades),
with a fixed content in /etc/init.d/virtuoso-nepomuk (the only necessary
change is to add the "### END INIT INFO" line).

Another approach would be to be more flexible when reading the
/etc/init.d/* files, and assume the "### END INIT INFO" line at the end
of the comment lines started by "### BEGIN INIT INFO", if this end line
is not there. That would allow to handle this issue on other packages
that might be in the same case. I would find that much cleaner, but it
might be a bit more difficult.

A completely different approach would be to check the /etc/init.d/*
files before starting the upgrade, and prevent the user from starting
the upgrade if a non-compliant file is found. Ideally, it would also
tell him which package causes the issue, and suggest to remove it.

In any case, leaving an end-user with a half-upgraded system like that
is VERY bad.

2016-12-12 Thread Mossroy
For those still having this issue on Ubuntu 16.04 : please check that you did
not disable the automatic installation of updates.
It might be the reason why the old kernels were not removed for me (not 100%
yet). See discussion in https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2344232
With a GUI, it's in System settings->Software and updates->Updates tab : "When
there are security updates" should be set to "Download and install
automatically" (its default value).
(please comment on the forum thread)

I manually forced e10s on Firefox 50 (50.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1), and used

So maybe the "Ubuntu modifications" extension is e10s-compatible, but simply

[Bug 1778362] [NEW] thymiovpl and asebastudio are missing from aseba package

2018-06-23 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

The aseba package distributed by Ubuntu (version 1.6.0-3.1~build1 for 18.04
Bionic, any architecture) is missing a few binaries.
In particular, the thymiovpl and asebastudio binaries are not there, which
provide the capability to program a Thymio device.
I noticed that the corresponding desktop and icon files are in the package :
only the binaries are missing.

The same issue is in the Debian package (version 1.6.0-4)
If you compare with the package distributed on the thymio website

[Bug 1778362] Re: thymiovpl and asebastudio are missing from aseba package

2018-06-24 Thread Mossroy
The PPA package mentioned above can be installed on bionic, and works (some qt4
packages need to be installed). But it has the same name as the package from
standard repos, with a slightly lower version. So every apt upgrade replaces it
with the one from standard repos, removing thymiovpl and other binaries.
Pinning the package can be a temporary workaround.

[Bug 1784242] [NEW] Totem displays a green screen on H264 videos with gstreamer1.0-vaapi

2018-07-29 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

On a Ubuntu 18.04 (amd64) laptop, all H264 videos read by Totem display a green
screen (but the audio is fine, and the subtitles are displayed above the green
screen). VLC reads them properly. Totem reads them properly on another Ubuntu
18.04 computer.
If I remove the package gstreamer1.0-vaapi, the videos are read properly.
If I install it back (version 1.14.1-1~ubuntu18.04.1), the videos are green
again.

There is no error message in the kernel log, or in the standard output of Totem.
I suppose the hardware decoding is failing?
All the packages are up-to-date.

The laptop is a Lenovo X201 with a Core i5 M 540 CPU, with no other
graphics card.

All videos should be read properly (with hardware acceleration if
possible, but it should fallback to software decoding if something goes
wrong).

[Bug 1784242] Re: Totem displays a green screen on H264 videos with gstreamer1.0-vaapi

2018-08-17 Thread Mossroy
After some more tests, the green screen does not affect all the H264 videos,
but only some of them.
It does not seem to depend on the container (Matroska or Quicktime), on the
FPS, on the H264 profile or on the encoding software.

It seems to me that it depends on the resolution (not 100% sure anyway) :
All the 1920x1080 videos I tested gave a green screen. And also the following
resolutions : 720x302, 720x384, 712x574.
All the 1280x720 videos I tested were working fine. And also the following
resolutions : 640x480, 320x240, 720x576.

Removing the gstreamer1.0-vaapi package is a working workaround.

[Bug 1778362] Re: thymiovpl and asebastudio are missing from aseba package

2019-01-19 Thread Mossroy
That's good news, thanks!

I suppose you're talking about package version 1.6.0-5 of aseba, and the
following debian bug : https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=907531
and github issues : https://github.com/aseba-community/aseba/issues/881 and
https://github.com/aseba-community/aseba/issues/885 ?
So this fix should be available in ubuntu 19.04 (disco) when released :
https://packages.ubuntu.com/disco/aseba ?

I tried to install the package for disco on 18.04 (bionic) but it needs newer
qt5 libraries as dependencies.
Will there be a 1.6.0-5 package for bionic?

[Bug 1915802] [NEW] No screen sharing on Firefox with Wayland

2021-02-16 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04.2 or 20.10, if I switch to a Wayland session, and open Firefox
(currently 85.0.1) on a site using some screen sharing, Firefox does not list
the available windows but only a line "Use operating system settings".
After choosing this only option, nothing happens and my screen is not shared.

When using the default Xorg session, Firefox lists the available windows
and allows to share them.

Steps to reproduce :
- open a Wayland session
- open Firefox on https://meet.jit.si/
- start a conference and join it
- try to share your screen (icon of a screen at the bottom left)

Expected behavior : Firefox should ask me which window to share (like on
Xorg)

Actual behavior : Firefox does not list any window, but only a "Use
operating system settings" line, and selecting it does nothing

NB : installing and starting pipewire (as suggested in
http://jgrulich.cz/2018/07/04/how-to-enable-and-use-screen-sharing-on-wayland/)
does not help

I tested the same on Chromium 88 (on Ubuntu 20.10) : it does not allow to

works in this case.

[Bug 2042356] Re: [SRU] wminput crashes with ImportError: ... undefined symbol: PyVarObject_CallFunction

2024-05-13 Thread Mossroy
Hi Sudip,

I've already used these packages with one of my wiimotes on an earlier
version of Ubuntu. And they worked fine.

I see that the packages wminput and wmgui are only available on Jammy
(22.04) and above, based on
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=wminput

I started a live-USB of Ubuntu Focal 20.04.6 on a PC, and apt indeed
does not find wminput or wmgui. I suspect it's because of the
python2->python3 switch, at that time.

So I started a live-USB of Ubuntu Bionic 18.04.6 on the same PC, and
could install the 3 packages (they don't show up in
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=wminput because this Ubuntu
version is not supported any more)

I can confirm that it works fine on Ubuntu 18.04: wminput displays a
"Ready." message after pairing with the wiimote, and buttons/gyroscope
of the wiimote have the expected effect on the Ubuntu desktop: move
cursor or pointer

$ sudo wminput
Put Wiimote in discoverable mode now (press 1+2)...
Ready.

wmgui also works fine on Ubuntu 18.04: sensors and buttons states are
properly shown

NB: after pairing the wiimote with Ubuntu 18.04, its leds are all off,
just like on Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04. So what I suspected to be a
"crashed" state of the wiimote seems to be its normal state with
wminput/wmgui

[Bug 2042356] Re: [SRU] wminput crashes with ImportError: ... undefined symbol: PyVarObject_CallFunction

2024-05-05 Thread Mossroy
Hi Sudip,

I've tested the packages from your ppa (after an add-apt-repository, and
removing them locally, to make sure they all come from the PPA)

They can be installed with no issue, and the python errors do not show up any
more.
However, when I run wminput , it does not work.

I put my wiimote in discovery mode: buttons 1+2 pushed, blinking leds,
and run the command:

$ sudo wminput
Put Wiimote in discoverable mode now (press 1+2)...

After a few seconds (less than 5), the leds stop blinking, and stay off on the
wiimote. Nothing more appears on the PC, and the wiimote seems to be "crashed".
Using any button on it has no effect: nothing on the PC, and no blinking led on
the wiimote.
I need to remove the batteries the wiimote, and put them again, to restore a
"normal" state of the wiimote, where using any button makes the leds blink for
a short moment.

I've reproduced that with 2 different wiimotes, and on 2 different
computers (both running Ubuntu 22.04.4 with latest patches. One with
kernel 5.15.0-105-generic, the other one with 6.5.0-28-generic)

To sum up, the Python import error seems to be solved, but there's
probably another issue that prevents wminput to work.

With wmgui, the wiimote behavior is the same, and a popup "wmgui does
not answer" appears on the desktop

I'd be glad to help debugging, but don't find any "verbose" or similar
option to get more info

[Bug 486837] [NEW] Freezes with nvidia-glx-185 or -190 after upgrade from jaunty to karmic

2009-11-22 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

I did a standard dist-upgrade from jaunty to karmic.
I have a nvidia graphic card and was using the standard proprietary drivers
(proposed by jockey-gtk), and with desktop effects activated.

Since the upgrade, I experience freezes that seem to be related to this
proprietary driver :

- whenever I hibernate the PC, and start it again, the boot seems fine, but the
screen stays blank after the resume
- the system freezes after a few minutes watching any flash video content (with
the proprietary flash)

I'm using version 185.18.36-0ubuntu9 of nvidia-glx-185.
Both problems are solved if I disable this proprietary driver through
jockey-gtk.

I ran two tests :
- upgrade to version 190.42 of the drivers (by adding the ppa deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
)
- keep version 185.18.36 and disable desktop effects
In both cases, the freezes are still there.
The only workaround I found to avoid them was to disable the proprietary driver

I found this bug :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/474917
but it does not seem to be a duplicate, as my dkms status reports :
nvidia, 185.18.36, 2.6.31-14-generic, i686: installed

I did not find anything relevant in /var/log about these freezes

I was hoping that the recent kernel upgrade (to 2.6.31-15) could help with this
issue.
It does not : still the same freezes with flash videos.
I can reproduce that easily :
- activate nvidia proprietary drivers
- open a flash video, for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU
and watch it in full screen mode
- after a few minutes, the freeze happens and all you can do is manually reboot

[Bug 435190] Re: Disk wakes up every 30 minutes and produces errors on dmesg

2009-12-02 Thread Mossroy
It looks like the patch works for me too.
My second hard disk (Western Digital WD2000JD of 200Gb) was constantly spinning
up and down since the upgrade to karmic.
I had modified /etc/hdparm.conf so that this disk spins down automatically
after a few minutes.
It worked great with jaunty, with the hard disk spinninp up only when I wanted
to access it. After the upgrade, it was periodically spinning up, even if I did
not access to the hard disk at all.
I found this bug and installed the PPA package.

Since then, the hard disk did not spin up periodically : it looks like it
solved my problem.
Thanks to all of you who worked on it.

Will this patch be backported for karmic?

[Bug 946500] [NEW] Menu color make them unreadable

2012-03-04 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Precise amd64 (beta 1 with all current updates), the menus have a
color very close to the dark background color.
That makes them almost unreadable (see attached screenshot)

The same problem appears with openjdk-7 or openjdk-6.
sweethome3d has been installed from ubuntu repositories, and is in version
3.4+dfsg-1

** Affects: sweethome3d (Ubuntu)

[Bug 946520] [NEW] Sweethome3d should be able to run with openjdk-7 instead of openjdk-6

2012-03-04 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

When you install Sweethome3d on a fresh Precise (beta 1 with all current
updates), it installs openjdk-6 as a dependency.

If you then install openjdk-7, and set it as default jdk (via
update-java-alternatives), sweethome3d seems to run well it.
If you try to uninstall openjdk-6, it uninstalls sweethome3d.

Except if there is an incompatibility with version 7 of openjdk,
sweethome3d package should accept openjdk-7 dependency, as it does for
sun-java6.

Current dependencies of sweethome3d 3.4+dfsg-1 :
(...)
Depends: icedtea-netx-common | sun-java6-bin, java-wrappers,
java3ds-fileloader, libfreehep-graphicsio-svg-java, libitext-java,

openjdk-6-jre | sun-java6-jre

[Bug 304345] Re: File chooser dialog doesn't provide network access

2012-02-12 Thread Mossroy
I also face this issue.
I would expect the file chooser dialog to allow me to access network bookmarks
(including mounting them if they are not mounted already).
It's very annoying when you want to save a file on a network share from Firefox
or Thunderbird : you have to save it locally, then transfer it with nautilus.

I found the following workarounds :
- mount permanently the network locations in /etc/fstab : it works, but is not
adapted to all situations. In my case, the server that hosts the network share
is a standard PC, not a 24/7 server. So, if this PC is not up at startup time,
the share is not mounted
- add a bookmark for ~/.gvfs directory, as suggested by smonff : it appears in
the file chooser, but is empty if the share is not mounted. So you have to
mount it before
- add a bookmark for ~/.gvfs AND install/configure the package gigolo : this
software can automatically mount network shares. If you declare it as a startup
application, it will try to connect every minute. See
http://www.borpin.co.uk/2011/03/29/map-network-drive-in-ubuntu-again/ . It's
still a workaround but it's the best I found so far.

In any case, it would be much much easier to be able to open/save directly in a
network bookmark.
It is a frequent use case at home or in small organizations (several computers
with shares to exchange data, but no central server)

[Bug 931168] [NEW] brcm80211 Wifi driver : cannot connect to channels11

2012-02-12 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

I can not connect to some Wifi on my Asus eee-PC 1015PX netbook.

After some experimentations, I found that it can not connect to channels11 (I
live in France, where channels 12 and 13 are allowed. See
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#2.4.C2.A0GHz_.28802.11b.2Fg.2Fn.29
 ).
It has a Broadcom BCM4313 chipset and runs Ubuntu oneiric 11.10 with all
updates. The driver is the open-source one : brcmsmac.
I can connect to Wifis on channels =11 with no problem.

If I configure my Wifi on channel 13, it is correctly detected on another
laptop using iwl3945 driver, and I can connect to it. But it does not appear in
the list on the netbook.
If I switch to channel 5 for example, I can connect and use the Wifi.

I tried the workarounds proposed in similar issues :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/836133
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/288401

None of them worked. I still can not connect. That's why I opened a
separate issue.

Here is the detail :

With default config :
iw reg get = US
iwlist wlan0 channel = only the first 11 channels
Wifi on channel 13 not detected

With iw reg set FR :
iw reg get = FR
iwlist wlan0 channel = all 13 channels
Wifi on channel 13 detected, but cannot connect to it (asking the password
again and again)
After a reboot, the setting is lost and comes back to the default config

With a file /etc/modprobe.d/regdom options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=FR and
options lbm_cw_cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=FR and a reboot :
iw reg get = 98
iwlist wlan0 channel = only the first 11 channels
Wifi on channel 13 not detected

With the file /etc/modprobe.d/regdom and iw reg set FR :
iw reg get = 00
iwlist wlan0 channel = only the first 11 channels
Wifi on channel 13 not detected

[Bug 931168] Re: brcm80211 Wifi driver : cannot connect to channels11

2012-02-13 Thread Mossroy
I tested with kernel 3.3-rc2 as requested. You'll find the dmesg
attached.

It gives me the exact same behavior :
- wifi not detected with default config
- wifi detected but unable to connect with iw reg set FR
- wifi not detected with modprobe options, with or without iw reg set FR

I'm 100% sure I did not make a mistake with the wifi password (I use
WPA2) because it's saved on the computer, and it connects correctly as
soon as I change the channel on the router

[Bug 883478] Re: Unable to hide top menu bar on secondary monitor

2012-01-29 Thread Mossroy
This is very annoying when watching a video on the secondary screen (with XBMC
in my case) :
- if XBMC has the focus, the menu bar does not appear
- but if I use another application on the primary screen, the menu bar appears
above the video of the secondary screen

I'd be interested in any workaround

2012-01-30 Thread Mossroy
This bug seems to be fixed on Precise (12.04). I've been able to read the dvd
on the alpha 2 version (without the no dvd menu workaround).
I could read it correctly with vlc, but not with totem (it does not hang, but
nothing appears on the screen : maybe it is another issue, as precise is still
alpha).

I suppose it is because of the upgrade of libdvdnav4 library (version
4.2.0 instead of 4.1.3 : http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libdvdnav4).
But I can't say for sure.

I'm not 100% sure but I do not seem to face this issue with precise
alpha (kernel 3.2.0-12-generic).

I have another issue with my FreeRunner on Precise (it's not correctly
recognised at startup, so NetworkManager does not find the right MAC
address, does not set the fix IP adress and keeps trying DHCP on it) ,
but I suppose it's not related to this one.

[Bug 923749] Re: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get

2012-02-07 Thread Mossroy
It's a bit better with the reveal sensitivity set to high.

Anyway, if the push mouse offscreen feature might be a good idea on
trackpads, I still don't find it ergonomical with a mouse.
At first use, people (including me) don't seem to have the reflex to push on
the left, and think the launcher does not reveal, or does not work.

Another problem is that this push on the left physically moves the mouse on the
left, while the cursor does not move.
After a few pushes, the mouse has moved a few centimeters on the left. So you
need to lift it and reposition it on the right (else it finally hits the
keyboard, if you are right-handed)

[Bug 31471] Re: Firefox file selector should show remote shares

2012-02-16 Thread Mossroy
There is another bug on Launchpad for the same issue on other software :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/304345

I confirm it's a big problem when you often use network shares.
One can mount them permanently in fstab, of course, but it only works if this
share is always up.
In other contexts, like a home network or small organization (with a few
standard PCs and no central serve), fstab is not adequate (mouting fails if the
network share is not up at startup time)

Another workaround I found is to use the software package gigolo : see
http://www.borpin.co.uk/2011/03/29/map-network-drive-in-ubuntu-again/
If you put a bookmark on ~/.gvfs (as suggested above), it can help mounting
shares automatically when a remote PC is up.
I did not test it a lot, though.

[Bug 931168] Re: brcm80211 Wifi driver : cannot connect to channels11

2012-02-16 Thread Mossroy
I did some more testing on different versions of Ubuntu. I installed on the
same machine Ubuntu Precise and Maverick.
On Ubuntu Precise 12.04 alpha 2 (with all current updates), I have the same
behavior : channels11 seem unreachable

But on Ubuntu Maverick 10.10, it works!
It's certainly because Maverick does not use the same driver for Broadcam Wifi
network adapters. By default, the wifi does not work, but Maverick suggests to
install proprietary drivers : Broadcam STA wireless drivers.
After installing this suggested driver, I can connect to my wifi on channel 13,
and the reported driver is wl.
If I restart on Oneiric or Precise, this same Wifi is not detected.

That confirms it's not a hardware problem.
It makes me suspect a bug in brcm80211 driver

[Bug 931168] Re: brcm80211 Wifi driver : cannot connect to channels11

2012-02-16 Thread Mossroy
I tried kernel 3.3-rc3 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ on
Oneiric : the behavior is the same as with 3.3-rc2.
I forgot to say that my test in comment #7 was done on Oneiric (the version for
which I reported this bug).

I tried to test these latest kernels on Precise alpha 2, but had compile errors
with dkms : see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/933519
I still can not connect to the wifi on channel 13, but this test is probably
not relevant as the dkms errors are precisely on bcmwl source...
Maybe it would be worth trying again when this compile error will be fixed

[Bug 931168] Re: brcm80211 Wifi driver : cannot connect to channels11

2012-02-16 Thread Mossroy
On this page :
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/brcm80211#Developer_information
, at paragraph Regulatory Implementation for brcmsmac is written :

This generation of chips contain additional regulatory support
independent of the driver. The devices use a single worldwide regulatory
domain, with channels 12-14 (2.4 GHz band) and channels 52-64 and
100-140 (5 GHz band) restricted to passive operation. Transmission on
those channels is suppressed until appropriate other traffic is observed
on those channels. Within the driver, we use the ficticious country code
X2 to represent this worldwide regulatory domain. There is currently
no interface to configure a different domain. The driver reads the SROM
country code from the chip and hands it up to mac80211 as the regulatory
hint, however this information is otherwise unused with the driver.

If I understand correctly, it would mean that channels 12-14 would be
restricted by the hardware itself?
I suppose it does not prevent it to connect on wifis on these channels, as it
works with another driver. Maybe it only means that the chipset can only do
passive scanning, instead of active scanning? (which should not prevent
connecting)

[Bug 912155] Re: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build (error: unknown field ‘ndo_set_multicast_list’ specified in ini

2012-02-17 Thread Mossroy
Version 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu5 of this package does not work on
kernel 3.3 (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/912155 : the
compile error still happens, even if I already use this patched version)

I think it's because of the dkms declaration in dkms.conf :
PATCH[3]=0004-Add-support-for-Linux-3.2.patch
PATCH_MATCH[3]=^3.2

which means that the patch 0004-Add-support-for-Linux-3.2.patch will
only be applied on kernel versions starting with 3.2 (off-topic : I
suppose the dot should be escaped?)

I suggest to replace it with something like :
PATCH_MATCH[3]=^3\.[23]

so that the patch would be applied for kernel 3.3, too. Maybe the regex
should also be applied on further versions (3.4, 3.5 etc)? I don't what
is the policy for that.

NB : I did not have the time to repackage and test

[Bug 769038] Re: sweethome3d does not start

2011-09-20 Thread Mossroy
The same bug existed on Debian and has been closed :
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=626050

The fix seems to be backported in version 3.1+dfsg-1ubuntu1 of this package,
that should be shipped with oneiric : see the changelog in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sweethome3d/3.1+dfsg-1ubuntu1
Installing this package on oneiric makes sweethome3d runnable with default jre
(openjdk-6), without the need to install sun-java6.
It also works if you install this version on natty (but you have to force the
installation with a dpkg --force-depends-version).

Anyway, I noticed that 3D performance was much better with the Sun JDK
(at least with the one bundled in the .tgz downloadable on the official
site : http://www.sweethome3d.com/fr/download.jsp) than with openjdk-6.
I'm not sure if I tested the package sun-java6 of ubuntu (it should be
the same as Sun JDK).

I might be wrong, but it seems to me that Sun JDK has some 3D hardware
acceleration (and/or optimization) that is not enabled in openjdk-6. I tested
openjdk-7 (in a beta version, some time ago), and noticed that the performance
was the same as with Sun JDK. See
http://www.sweethome3d.com/support/forum/viewthread_thread,1658
Unfortunately, openjdk-7 will not yet be the default jre for oneiric (still
openjdk-6)

[Bug 792315] Re: screen tearing during video in unity 2d (but not ubuntu classic)

2012-03-23 Thread Mossroy
For those who have an Intel graphics card, I found this discussion that might
be relevant :
http://askubuntu.com/questions/73909/screen-tearing-in-11-10-with-intel-graphics
It points to another bug in launchpad :

There is a proposed workaround for Gnome-shell.
Unfortunately, it did not work for me (but I use Unity-2D and have a Core

[Bug 963892] [NEW] metacity --replace does not work any more since compiz 0.9.7.2-0ubuntu1

2012-03-24 Thread Mossroy
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu Precise beta 1 with all current updates (amd64).

So far, I was able to switch from unity (3d) to metacity without logging off,
with the following command-line :
metacity --replace

See discussion here : https://answers.launchpad.net/unity-
2d/+question/189486

Since the upgrade of compiz to version 0.9.7.2-0ubuntu1, it does not work any
more : unity seems to be automatically relaunched.
It was working with previous version of compiz (0.9.7.0+bzr3035-0ubuntu1)

[Bug 31471] Re: Firefox file selector should show remote shares

2012-03-08 Thread Mossroy
Another workaround that can fit some needs : use the package autofs
You can configure it so that it mounts your network shares in a location like
/mnt/autofs/servername/share
You can then put a bookmark on this directory, and it seems to be always
displayed in open/save dialogs (tested on Firefox and Thunderbird)

Autofs mounts and unmounts the shares automatically when they are used/unused
If you need to use credentials (login/password) to connect to your SMB share,
it's less straightforward but seems to work with a bit more config. See
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/autofs_avec_samba#acces_aux_partages_avec_authentification

May I reopen this issue?
It looks like it still affects many people, in recent versions of Firefox (7+)

2012-03-10 Thread Mossroy
I have the same issue on Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 (with current updates), on an

There is one line of tearing in the upper third of the screen. I don't have
this issue on Unity 3D.
The workaround proposed by Florian (comment 1 : disable compositing-manager)
does not work in my case. I also tried to disable the option compositor-effects

[Bug 792315] Re: screen tearing during video in unity 2d (but not ubuntu classic)

2012-03-10 Thread Mossroy
As Gerry suspected in comment #5, I have the same issue under metacity alone.
So it does not seem to be caused by unity-2d itself (at least in my case).
More precisely, here are the results of my tests with different window managers
chosen on the login screen :
- Ubuntu (=Unity 3D) : no tearing
- Ubuntu 2D (=Unity-2D) : tearing
- Ubuntu, then running metacity --replace : tearing
- Ubuntu classic : no tearing
- Ubuntu classic (no effects) : tearing

[Bug 873167] Re: Cannot drag emails between Thunderbird windows [regression]

2012-03-28 Thread Mossroy
Will the 12.04 LTS really lack this basic Drag and drop feature?
See also some related issues :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/754580 (can not move firefox
tabs betwwen firefox windows)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/607796 (window applications do
not spread when dragging a selection on it).

I second the point of view of many that mime-type should be a guidance.
It is a good idea to highlight the applications that recognize the mime-type of
what you're dragging, but it should not block you from dropping it on any
application that did no declare this mime-type.

[Bug 946500] Re: Menu color make them unreadable

2012-03-16 Thread Mossroy
After some more testing, it seems to come from the Ubuntu Theme Ambiance.
If I choose another theme, like Radiance, the contrast is ok and menus are
readable.

I tested the same sweethome3d version on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.4 : the contrast is
ok for both themes Ambiance and Radiance.

did not test)
