[Bug 345080] Re: iSight camera images have green/purple tint
I'm using Jaunty and I can confirm this issue. In Jaunty, the default libv4l version is 0.5.8 (http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/libv4l-0). I installed version 0.5.98 from source as #13 suggests, but that didn't work (picture still green). I also installed version 0.5.9-1 from Karmic with Gdebi, but that didn't work either (both Cheese and Ekiga crash with the error message "memory override"). Finally I got it working by installing version 0.5.99 from source. Here is how: 1. download and unpack http://people.atrpms.net/~hdegoede/libv4l-0.5.99.tar.gz on your computer 2. install build dependencies with command: sudo apt-get build-dep libv4l-0 3. go to correct directory: cd libv4l-0.5.99/ 4. compile: make 5. install: sudo make install PREFIX=/usr 6. shut down the computer completely and then turn it on again for to camera to reset Now it works correctly for me! I guess this bug will be automatically fixed for Karmic if it will contain the libv4l version 0.5.99 -- iSight camera images have green/purple tint https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345080 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 278063] [NEW] Upgrade 8.04->8.10, sound stops working "device busy"
Public bug reported: I upgraded a pretty clean Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10. After the upgrade the sound stopped working (regression?). The problem seems to have something to do with Pulseaudio. When I log into Gnome I can hear the startup sound, but after that when I open any application and try to play anything with audio (Rhythmbox, Totem, Kaffeine etc) none of them is able to play any sound. Kaffeine is the only one that gives an proper error: "audio device busy". I noticed that when I kill the pulseaudio prosess, it automatically spawns back and then sound starts working (until the next time I reboot). I attached the user.log that seems to contain some error messages from pulseaudio. I also attached the process lists before and after killing the pulseaudio process. [Bug 249340] Re: Gutsy->Hardy upgrade hangs in localedef
Hello, (how to replicate:) I've seen this issue with two of our company's (human) clients upgrading from 7.10 -> 8.04: The upgrade fails (freezes) and when the client reboots the machine it is no longer usable. Running dpkg --configure -a freezes while trying to generate locales. Killing the locale-gen-command with kill -1 or -9 switches does not work. Dpkg is also cramped since it cannot install dbus, and pretty much everything depends on it to install (and configure first). Solution: 1. reboot the machine using the older recovery mode (the newest kernel isn't fully installed and does not work properly) 2. run "mkdir /var/run/dbus" since it is missing and would otherwise stop package dbus from upgrading. 3. run "dpkg --reconfigure -a": It will finish installation of dbus and then locale-gen will work. 4. Reboot. Everything works. Long-term solutions to avoid similar issues in future: - Watch the dpkg-process: if it hangs for a long while, start automatic recovery processes. It is not good behaviour that a single bad behaving package configuration halts the entire system upgrade. - Use info from "dpkg -C" to check what package is stopping dependency-ways installation of all other packages - then report to user the name of that package or show a pstree-kind of report of showstopper dependencies. - Fix dbus package so that is will generate directory /var/run/dbus itselft if it is missing. -- Gutsy->Hardy upgrade hangs in localedef https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/249340 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 70561] Xubuntu Desktop CD needs more than 128 MB RAM to boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xubuntu-live The specs for Xubuntu Desktop CD say that it requires 128 MB RAM to boot. This seems to be incorrect. I've booted the Xubuntu Desktop CD on an older laptop (Fujitsu E-series with 128 MB RAM). The desktop is missing all panels and is extremely slow. Command "free -m" on console shows that all memory has been used and there is 0 MB RAM left. When I add some swap space with "swapon /dev/hda2" (which I have made into a swap partition) everything starts workin much smoother, which confirms that the issue is simply that Xubuntu Desktop CD uses more than 128 MB of RAM to run. Unfortunately I could not install Xubuntu using Ubiquity, since the every step where hard drive partitions are scanned (startup of gparted, startup of partitioning, startup of copying files) the systems seems to automatically unmount the swap partition, thus killing the memory of all applications and thus also the Ubiquity installer halts. ** Affects: xubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Xubuntu Desktop CD needs more than 128 MB RAM to boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/70561 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In Ubuntu Dapper there is an error - it has the 2.3.1.31 firmware by default. This version does not work at all. [Bug 40627] Re: wrong keyboard layout after install
I just installed a fresh Edgy and found some more info about this issue. This seems to be partially a user interface issue. This is what users are most likely to do: 1. Boot a Desktop CD with locale setting 'Suomi' (Finland). 2. Run the Install program. 3. In the keyboard selection screen, users see that Finnish keyboad layout is selected by default (line blue). 4. Users just press 'Next'. 5. Later in the installation process users note that keyboard selection however is 'en_US'. Some users however note in step 3. that even though main keyboard category is Finnish, no keyboard variant is selected. Thus those users activate keyboard variant Fi from the right-hand-side selection screen and eventually end up with a correct keyboard layout. Fix: make keyboard type 'Finnish' AND variant type 'Fi' selected by default. -- wrong keyboard layout after install https://launchpad.net/bugs/40627 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't think this is a duplicate. Even though the main symptoms are the same, this bug was introduced newly by some update in Lucid after the alpha release. [Bug 571548] Re: Songs not downloading, even after a local and server rescan, but available via the web
I bought the album Crazy Love by Michael Bublé around the first of May 2010. This was my first and possible last purchase from U1 music store. The payment went ok and the files appeared in the cloud (visible from the U1 web interface) but never synced to any of my local computers. The folder "~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/" stayed empty no matter what I tried (e.g. reinstalling U1 and my account). Other files in the normal Ubuntu One folder synced fine. My computer is on several hours every day so it wasn't a matter of waiting long enough. Command u1sdtool -s showed idle all the time. Finally today I got help from verterok and alecu on the #ubuntuone IRC channel. Running mkdir "Michael Bublé" in the folder "~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/" first destroyed the files in the cloud. Luckily there was an option to download the files again from the store, so clicking "download it again" in the U1 music store interface in Rhythmbox fixed it (except for one song, see below). Now the songs are in the cloud and they synced to one of my local computers. I went to check the situation on another computer where I have the same U1 account: the folder "~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/" on that computer was still empty but running "touch test" in that folder somehow poked the U1 daemon and the sync started. There is just one problem left: when I click to download the song "Baby [You've Got What It Takes] [with Sharon Jones & Dap-Kings]" (by Michael Bublé on album Crazy Love) in the Rhythmbox U1 music store interface, the page just reloads but no transfer is started.. I have to complain about that in another bug report. But I guess the workaround to a local folder not syncing is to run "touch newfile" in it to wake up the sync calculation. -- Songs not downloading, even after a local and server rescan, but available via the web https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571548 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 537596] Re: [regression] Unable to shut down, login screen keeps coming up
After asking about this on a mailing list, Martin Pitt kindly informed me that ACL is indeed used in Ubuntu and thus the +-signs. The ACL is set by udev using the ruleset in /lib/udev/rules.d/70-acl.rules The rationale to use ACL in Ubuntu is that with it the system can control that e.g. inserted USB-drives can be accessed by the user who's console is currently active in stead of any user who is logged in. I tried toggling consoles with Ctrl+Alt+F1-8, but it didn't help. Restarting udev just says: $ restart udev restart: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.51" (uid=1000 pid=2038 comm="restart) interface="com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job" member="Restart" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="com.ubuntu.Upstart" (uid=0 pid=1 comm="/sbin/init")) udev logs, ConsoleKit logs etc. does not show anything suspicious. However in syslog I found lines like: Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Could not determine active console Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 4 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 5 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 7 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 9 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 11 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 13 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 15 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 3 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 28 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 48 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 6 activation: Invalid argument Mar 17 21:40:42 shuttle console-kit-daemon[874]: WARNING: Error waiting for native console 54 activation: Invalid argument Might they be related? [Bug 537596] [NEW] [regression] Unable to shut down, login screen keeps coming up
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Install latest Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (alpha) run all updates and log in as regular user. 2. Select from the indicator applet or System menu option "shut down". 3. The system does not shut down. Instead the login screen appears. 4. From the login screen select again option Shut down. 5. Again nothing happends, the login screen just reloads. System does not shut down. 6. Steps 4-5 repeat. There is nothing to do that I can come up with that helps. Finally you have to switch the power off to shut down. Expected result: step 2 should simply shut down the computer. Occurrence: randomly, maybe one out of five times. Most of the time shutdown works just fine. Regression: Lucid alpha 3 worked fine. Some update last week introduced this erroneous behavior. I have no clue to what package this is related to. I'm happy to do any debugging if you can give me directions what might be wrong. [Bug 507021] [NEW] Last login time should be shown also in graphical environments
Public bug reported: The UNIX shell has for ages shown to users their last login time after a successful login time. The line is e.g.: #Last login: Web Sep 23 10:57:34 EEST 2009 on tty1". This is a good security feature since it allows the user to discover if his account has been accessed at a time the user himself knows for sure he didn't log in. Command 'last' will show the last logins. Man page 'wtmp' will tell more about the feature. At the moment there is nothing similar in a graphical environment. If somebody is using my account, I wouldn't probably notice it.. I don't know what the correct place to implement this is (GDM, Gnome, separate script?), but some part of the login process should a) record the login to /var/log/wtmp b) read the last login for the current user an flash it as a notification for 5-10 seconds Additionally it would be nice if there was an graphical equivalent graphical tool to the 'last' command. However that requires more work. I guess the two things suggested above could be done with just a few lines of code - thus I made this bug report. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Last login time should be shown also in graphical environments https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507021 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 505425] [NEW] [regression] sound snaps about every 10 seconds when headphones are inserted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio I've used 8.04 for over two years on my HP5050EO laptop without any hardware issues. I recently made a clean installation of Ubuntu 9.10 and now I sometimes hear a snapping noise that annoys me. The appearance of the snapping noise is somewhat random, but I can reproduce the issue at least with the following technique: 1. boot computer and log in 2. insert headphones in the audio out jack 3. a snapping noise is heard from the main speakers about every 10 seconds 4. after removing the headphones the snapping noise is gone At all times sound works normally and everything I play sounds ok. [Bug 488857] Re: Printing to PDF/PS/SVG defaults to a hidden (.name) filename
In fact the Firefox print dialog does not seem to work at all like the print dialog in other Gnome applications: Example: 1. In Firefox, the default file type is PostScript, while in Gedit it is PDF. 2. In Firefox the default file name is empty ".ps", while in Gedit it is "print.pdf". 3. In Firefox, the print dialog does not remember any settings unlike the dialog in Gedit. If you for example choose in the Firefox dialog to make a two-sided print, nothing of it is left when you restart Firefox. In Gedit every change to any optio is saved - if you once choose to e.g. make a two-sided print, all prints will be two-sided until the option is changed again. In my opinion Firefox should implement the print dialog in the same way as other Gnome/GTK apps do. The behaviour of e.g. Gedit is more correct and closer to the principles for example described in the Gnome User Interface Guidelines. -- Printing to PDF/PS/SVG defaults to a hidden (.name) filename https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 505893] [NEW] Places menu bookmark threshold too small before goes into submenu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Steps to reproduce: 1. Log in to Ubuntu 9.10 with a clean profile 2. Open Places menu: you will see six bookmarks: Home, Desktop, Documents, Music, Images, Videos 3. Open Home and add five folder, then make a bookmark of each folder. 4. Open the Paces menu: you will see two bookmarks: Home, Desktop. 5. The rest of the bookmarks are in a sub menu. 6. None of the users bookmarks are no longer visible directly, but require to navigate to the sub menu. It seems that the threshold for the Places menu to put bookmarks in a sub menu is 10. With 6 default bookmarks, this means that the user can only add 4 bookmarks of their choice before the sub menu appears. I think this is way too little. Even on a small screen there would be space to much more. I'd recommend the limit to be 20. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Places menu bookmark threshold too small before goes into submenu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505893 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 505898] [NEW] Copying/moving files from one filesystem to another fails if filename contains unallowed characters by the other file system
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Open home folder on Ubuntu (file system ext3 or ext4) 2. Make new file called "Cambridge 08\09 images.zip" 3. Insert a USB key made in Windows (file system vfat or ntfs) 4. Copy file to USB key => Nautilus complains that it cannot copy the file. In fact the reason is that the reciving file system (vfat/ntfs) cannot have the character "\" in their file names. In a situation like this Nautilus or GnomeVFS should a) automatically rename the file to something like "Cambridge 08-09 images.zip" and notify the user that the files was renamed to avoid illegal characters b) inform the user that the file contains illegal characters, and that it must be renamed before it can be copied/moved. ** Affects: gnome-vfs2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Copying/moving files from one filesystem to another fails if filename contains unallowed characters by the other file system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1913676] Re: libmariadb3 fails to include caching_sha2_password.so
At https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/mariadb-10.3 one can see the overview for MariaDB 10.3. The bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=988255 was fixed in 1:10.3.29-0+deb10u1 which is now in Debian stable (Buster) and from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.3 one can see that 1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.10.1 is in Groovy and 1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 in Focal. However the commit https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb- team/mariadb-10.3/-/commit/4562041f1afdcce5a313fc70478a0fbf789966a1 went only on the Buster branch on Salsa. We need to apply it also on the Groovy and Focal branches next time we upload. MariaDB 10.3.10 would be a candidate, but it is not a security release. I don't remember if we ever shipped "stable udpates" into Ubuntu and what is the process. Maybe we will wait until August for 10.3.31 and put this commit in there..? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1913676 Title: libmariadb3 fails to include caching_sha2_password.so To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.3/+bug/1913676/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1936727] [NEW] [SRU] MariaDB new release 10.3.30
Public bug reported: We currently have MariaDB 1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.10.1 in Groovy and 1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 in Focal, uploaded as security updates. Package history: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.3 Unfortunately there was a bug compromising the results of some type of queries (subqueries with group by). This is fixed in MariaDB 10.3.30 and I proposed it to be uploaded as a stable release update in Ubuntu. Upstream bug fixed: https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-25714 Debian bug about same issue: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=990306 Ubuntu users have not reported the urgent need for this SRU, but some of them are surely affected. ** Affects: mariadb-10.3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: virtualbox (Ubuntu) => mariadb-10.3 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1936727 Title: [SRU] MariaDB new release 10.3.30 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.3/+bug/1936727/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1757107] Re: Security update 10.1.30-0ubuntu0.17.10.1 regresses smoke test, mariadb not started upon install
Using git is good. The root of the problem here was that another DD had tagged commit https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb- team/mariadb-10.1/commit/d6c1b1f9cac58d92c3a0494c501e40d905b5 as https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb- team/mariadb-10.1/commits/debian/10.1.25-1 falsely. In reality, the tag debian/10.1.25-1 should have been on commit https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb- team/mariadb-10.1/commit/8927cd141a3c7bbfb918d3c8f8e0e6ee6acef178 This lead me to work on the wrong revision, as I trusted the tag to not be false (never before has it been wrong). Thus the resulting thing lost the commits d6c1b1f..8927cd. The long term solution would be to code into tracker.debian.org or some similar a tool that automaticaly checks the git tags and alerts if the source uploaded to Debian does not match and the tag is wrongly placed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757107 Title: Security update 10.1.30-0ubuntu0.17.10.1 regresses smoke test, mariadb not started upon install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.1/+bug/1757107/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
