I have the same problem, see this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=590242.

The problem seems to be related to Compiz, which even runs on a vanilla
install when no desktop effects are enabled. Pushing Alt+F2 and issuing
the command "metacity --replace" makes the problems go away on my
machine.

[Bug 347711] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller Unstable on Jaunty

2009-11-23 Thread sascha
Definitely not fixed in 9.01.
I made a fresh karmik-install (2.6.31-15) (Board: D945GCLF2).
The wrong r8169 - driver is still used.
Even in 100Mbit-Mode, high network traffic causes dropouts for a minute.

Seeing this heavy BUG not fixed let me seriously doubt about Ubuntu beeing a
recommendable Server-System.

Cheers,
Sascha

[Bug 1656830] [NEW] No DNS resolution caused by systemd-resolved

2017-01-16 Thread Sascha
Public bug reported:

This is something new in Ubuntu 17.04. Whenever I boot up or upon
returning from sleep, I don't have DNS resolution available. What I have
to do is go and shutdown systemd-resolved (sudo service systemd-resolved
stop) and edit /etc/resolv.conf to point to 192.168.1.1 (my router)
instead of 127.0.0.53. Then everything works peachy. Otherwise any DNS
resolution attempt will result in SERVFAIL.

Since this is a major issue out of the box and I don't see any other bug
report on this yet, I wanted to report it. This happens both on my
laptop and my desktop PC, so it's not something strange on a single
machine, but since no one else is complaining about it yet, it may be
related to my network configuration. My router forwards DNS requests to
an ODROID C2 on the same subnet, which then does the DNS resolution via
dnsmasq. Dnsqmasq is set up to forward the requests to multiple DNS
servers and respond with whichever one was fastest.

[Bug 1476342] [NEW] Feature request: Copy variable

2015-07-20 Thread sascha
Public bug reported:

It would be nice if PSPP would support copying of variables.

Example: I have a questionnaire that has several items with the same
answer options only the wording of the question needs to be changed.

If I go to 'Variable View' and try to copy an existing variable with all
its data defined I'm not able to paste it. It's currently only possible
to insert a new empty variable anywhere in between or at the end of the
variable table. It would be excellent if the option 'insert variable'
would be supported.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1546180] [NEW] gcc 5 compile error

2016-02-16 Thread Sascha
Public bug reported:

When using the pre-build packages in combinaton with the default gcc 5,
linking will fail due to a dual abi missconfiguration. Seems that the
cpputest binaries are build with the wrong gcc / or settings.

Compare
https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libstdc++/manual/using_dual_abi.html

When downloading the current version 3.7.1 from
http://cpputest.github.io/, building the libs locally and using them
instead of the pre build ones, everything works fine.

The error occures when doing a CHECK_EQUAL on strings and results in

[Bug 1356548] Re: Duplicity restore fails with UTF-8 chars in --file-to-restore

2014-12-23 Thread Sascha
This also affects me !

The Backup with DejaDup is executed without any error.
Then I wanted to restore a file

1. The Special characters are not recognized correctly so "dell´anima.doc" is
shown as "dell
2. If i execute the restore nevertheless i get a FOLDER ! "dellanima.doc
(codifica non valida)" instead of a doc file.

Where is my data ?

So the restore function with special characters for me as normal user is
completly broken.
People are not aware that they can not redo their backup. -> Risk of complete
data loss
This is why i consider this as a major bug. This should never happen with a
offical release of a backup software !

[Bug 1405128] [NEW] Deja-Dup Restore does not work

2014-12-23 Thread Sascha
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1356548 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1356548

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1356548] Re: Duplicity restore fails with UTF-8 chars in --file-to-restore

2014-12-23 Thread Sascha
A comment on
"I'm doubtful this fix will be backported to 14.04 because it's actually an odd
case."

For me there was nothing odd. I did straight backup and then tried a restore.
I use LTS versions for havin some stability and long term support.

But what is this worth if the essential feature "restore" of the
standard backup software which is shipped does not do what is expected ?
If you need more information about this case please contact me.

I have given up on Unity and switched to XFCE, no issues there with
Citrix client. You guys really fail to get the basics right.

[Bug 781977] [NEW] Suspend only works once, fails second time

2011-05-12 Thread Sascha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils

had this problem now since 10.10 64 bit, and I was hoping it would go
away in Natty 64 bit, but it didn't.

In short: Suspend only works once, the second attempt at a suspend
results in the monitor going blank as it was entering suspend, but the
computer still running, as evidenced by the hard drive and fans still
running. The computer can then not be awaken anymore, only a hard reset
and subsequent reboot returns the PC to working state.

When I check for errors after the first suspend, I see the following errors in
the log:
Code:

[ 8461.100062] ahci :05:00.0: failed to stop engine (-5)
[ 8461.600062] ahci :05:00.0: failed to stop engine (-5)
[ 8463.170076] ata9: failed to resume link (SControl )
[ 8463.170109] ata10: failed to resume link (SControl )
[ 8467.510109] ata9: failed to resume link (SControl )
[ 8467.510163] ata10: failed to resume link (SControl )

So it seems to me that it has something to do with AHCI. I searched for
this error in the forum, but I could not find anything. I also tried
various suggestions, such as using uswsusp and the hibernate scripts,
and including ahci in the suspend module lust. But each of the result in
the exact same behavior: First suspend works fine, second suspend fails
and reset is necessary.

My Hardware configuration:
- AMD Phenom II 965
- GeForce GTX 460
- GA-880GA-UD3H
- 8 GB DDR RAM
- SAMSUNG HD103SJ

an eduroam network...

[Bug 641564] [NEW] hp 2740 tablet/convertible after rotating LCD mouse position doesn't work anymore

2010-09-17 Thread sascha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-sound

On Ubuntu 10.10 the HP 2740 doesn't recognise after rotating the screen
over the applet visible in the notification area the mouse position
correctly. Instead it seems that the mouse is behaving as the screen is
normal, even if I do it with the wacom pen on the touchscreen it isn't
working.

I don't which information you need, but after I rotated the screen I
copied the Xorg.0.log file, you can find it as attachment.

Thanks for your help

[Bug 367317] Re: unreliable Psi interface in Jaunty (qt incompability?)

2009-05-03 Thread Sascha Bendix
I've done a little more debugging and found out, that the problems only
occur if psi is configured with --disable-bundled-qca (which is the case
in the ubuntu packages) and the package libqca2-plugin-gnupg is
installed.

After uninstalling the package my problems were gone.

With knowing this I could recreate the bug on another system simply by
installing libqca2-plugin-gnupg.

Please rename the bug something like 'libqca2-plugin-gnupg breaks psi'.

The same problem seems to be in the debian upstream package according to
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=525765).

The author told me, that uninstall the gnupg support seems to help, but
nevertheless sometimes his roster hangs for a small while.

Does the git version work with the system lib qca as well?

As I said the problem only occurs if you use not the bundled libqca and
qca-gnupg. So either it's a bug in Psi 0.12 oder the libqca-gnupg. To
really fix it, we have to know which of them it is.

[Bug 334457] [NEW] libpango1.0-0: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.2002.3 contains RPATH setting

2009-02-25 Thread Sascha Silbe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpango1.0-0

/usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.2002.3 contains an RPATH setting, causing third
party software like sugar-jhbuild to fail under certain circumstances (see [1]
for an example of problems caused by this - the actual bug caused by
libpango1.0-0 is a similar, but different one).
Debians current opinion on rpath [2] seems to be that it should NOT be set,
except under very rare circumstances.
I haven't tested whether Debians packages contain the rpath setting as well, so
it might be an upstream packaging bug.

Steps to reproduce:
1. install chrpath
2. chrpath -l /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.2002.3

Results:
/usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.2002.3: RPATH=/usr/lib

Expected:
no rpath setting

I got the same problems on amd64, too. On another system with xubuntu

effects?

The problems especially occur when I go online and there's a lot of xml

didn't help.

In the meanwhile I compiled Psi 0.12.1 out of the box and got no
