[Bug 1668722] Re: 60x11-common_xdg_path uses $DESKTOP_SESSION which needs a sanity check

2018-02-09 Thread Simon Quigley
So it seems that the problem is not that xorg doesn't set
DESKTOP_SESSION correctly, it's that SDDM uses an absolute path for this
instead of just the base name like every other window manager.

I'll fix it in Ubuntu; meanwhile, a bug is filed upstream. Linked here.

[Bug 1645564] Re: Lubuntu slideshow links to old website.

2018-02-11 Thread Simon Quigley
** Description changed:

- To reproduce on Lubuntu install Lubuntu and on the last slide where it
- says to visit our website at lubuntu.net it should be lubuntu.me as that
- recieves updated information.
+ [Impact/Test Case]
+ The Lubuntu slideshow should have a screenshot with the Lubuntu.me website
(as this is what gets up-to-date information). Right now it has a Lubuntu.net
screenshot, which is inaccurate and does not represent the project well.

-   Installed: 118
-   Candidate: 118
-   Version table:

- 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu zesty/universe i386 Packages
- 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
+ [Regression Potential]
+ None, this is simply replacing an image in the slideshow. Unless the
underlying tooling changes, this shouldn't break.
+
+ [Additional Note]
+ Lubuntu considers this a blocker to releasing 16.04.4.
+

[Bug 1750188] [NEW] d-i doesn't automatically detect network connection with libvirt

2018-02-17 Thread Simon Quigley

I use libvirt (via virt-manager) to do testing for bugs that require a
fresh install. I noticed lately that when using d-i to install Lubuntu

[Bug 1746807] Re: 18.04 daily installer fails missing kernel

2018-02-17 Thread Simon Quigley
I did a git bisect on the source and it identified this upstream commit
as being the potential culprit: https://salsa.debian.org/apt-
team/apt/commit/1adcf56bec7d2127d83aa423916639740fe8e586

I can confirm that this is the culprit by testing the output of `apt-
cdrom add` before and after reverting that specific commit from the tip
of master.

On further analysis, the following diff is the problematic one:
-  for (std::vector::const_iterator c =
compressor.begin();
-  c != compressor.end(); ++c)
+  for (auto const : APT::Configuration::getCompressorExtensions())
  {
-if (stat((file + c->Extension).c_str(), ) != 0)
+if (stat((file + ext).c_str(), ) != 0)

Reverting that diff and that diff only fixes `apt-cdrom add`.

Julian, could you take a look at why this is problematic? I'm afraid I
don't have the expertise to proceed.

[Bug 1730927] Re: Support the new 280 character limit.

2018-02-23 Thread Simon Quigley
This works after updating to version 1.6-1ubuntu0.1; before updating,
characters are stuck at the old limit, while after the update, 280
characters are supported.

[Bug 1746807] Re: 18.04 daily installer fails missing kernel

2018-02-15 Thread Simon Quigley
Actually, it seems that it's not in the .list file:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily/pending/bionic-alternate-
amd64.list

Good question on why it wants this file...

I'll assign this to myself again and see if I can figure it out, but if
anyone on Foundations knows the answer, you're welcome to assign it to
yourself.

[Bug 1749472] Re: mesa 18.0.0 will cause rendering errors in Qt applications

2018-02-25 Thread Simon Quigley
That would be the ideal way to do it because the fix is already
installable in the CI Train PPA for the next Qt transition:
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-
service/+archive/ubuntu/3113/+packages

That should be in -proposed before Feature Freeze, if not before then.

Is there a compelling case to get this in *now* and not wait the (maybe)
two days?

I explicitly set it in the Calamares settings the other day.

Thanks.

This is still an issue on the Lubuntu Xenial dailies, and wearing my
Lubuntu Release Manager hat, this is absolutely release-critical for
16.04.5.

Regardless if it's a regression, it's enough of a critical bug that I'm
not confident marking Lubuntu 16.04.5 as ready until it's fixed.

Yes, unfortunately it took this long for someone to realize that this is
still an issue, but it's not too late to get it in the point release.

[Bug 1786586] [NEW] Merge/sync debootstrap from Debian Sid

2018-08-10 Thread Simon Quigley
Public bug reported:

There are two notable changes from Debian in our debootstrap packaging:

debootstrap (1.0.106ubuntu2+really1.0.97ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * Revert to last known good version to avoid bugs like
https://bugs.debian.org/903481. Careful testing will be needed before
we merge again.

 -- Michael Hudson-Doyle   Thu, 12 Jul 2018
12:01:58 +1200

debootstrap (1.0.106ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * debootstrap does not make a destinction between priviledged and
unpriviledged lxd containers. When setting up devices, try to use the
old simple device setup, and if that fails, then fallback to the new
bind-setup. Blind attempt to unbreak cloud image livefs building, as
PPA is failing to build this package for me, thus cannot self-trigger
a livefs build to test this before uploading.

 -- Dimitri John Ledkov    Fri, 06 Jul 2018 12:32:07

---

Here's the most recent changelog from Debian:

debootstrap (1.0.107) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Patrick McDermott ]
  * Fix wgetprogress() with --debian-installer (Closes: #829725)

  [ Dan Nicholson ]
  * Strip URL scheme from apt lists (Closes: #903481)

  [ Hideki Yamane ]
  * Fix docker detection breaks QEMU's binfmt_misc bootstraping
(Closes: #903657)
- Avoid removing host's /proc on some environment
- Add workaround for second-stage inside docker
  * Align scripts/gutsy to scripts/debian-common
  * Remove unnecessary script files from udeb package
(Closes: #618839, #893713)

 -- Hideki Yamane   Thu, 26 Jul 2018 19:12:20 +0900

---

It fixes the bug Michael mentioned, but as he stated, careful testing is
needed before we merge again.

I am volunteering to drive this, but I would like to track testing in
this bug to make sure nothing is broken before we do this merge.

Assuming Dimitri upstreams his changes to Debian, I would also like to
raise attention to this: should we add it to the sync blacklist or keep
a permanent delta which is only a changelog entry? If it is going to be
problematic, proper testing is surely needed to make sure it doesn't
break again, but should action be taken to make that an extra step?

Thanks.
