[Bug 915167] Re: package python-beautifulsoup 3.2.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-01-12 Thread Stefano Rivera
Reassigning to python-defaults, as it's a bug in pycompile. From python-
defaults' changelog, it looks like this bug was fixed in 2.6.6-11:

   * pycompile:
 - --exclude now works with private dirs
 - use /usr/bin/pythonX.Y rather than pythonX.Y (to avoid /usr/local
   interpreters)

natty's python-defaults was based on 2.6.6-6.

** Package changed: beautifulsoup (Ubuntu) = python-defaults (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: python-defaults (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Fix Released

** Summary changed:

- package python-beautifulsoup 3.2.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
+ pycompile will use /usr/local/bin/python2.6 if available and python2.6 isn't
installed.

some up on your website. It'd be nice if they were included in the

[Bug 617463] Re: mysql fails to load innodb plugin due to apparmor rejection.

2012-09-21 Thread Stefano Rivera
** Description changed:

+ == SRU Stuff ==
+
+ === Impact ===
+ The HA innodb plugin can't be used, as the apparmor rules don't allow access
to the plugin directory.
+
+ === Regression potential ===
+ Minimal. When this rule was added in maverick, it went through a few
iterations:
+ 5.1.49-1ubuntu5, 5.1.49-1ubuntu6, and 5.1.49-1ubuntu7.
+ But it hasn't been changed since, so we can assume it isn't too problematic.
+
+ === Test Case ===
+
+ Install mysql-server. Stop it.
+
+ Add the following to a [mysqld] block in my.cnf:
+
+ ignore_builtin_innodb
+
plugin-load=innodb=ha_innodb_plugin.so;innodb_trx=ha_innodb_plugin.so;innodb_locks=ha_innodb_plugin.so;innodb_lock_waits=ha_innodb_plugin.so;innodb_cmp=ha_innodb_plugin.so;innodb_cmp_reset=ha_innodb_plugin.so;innodb_cmpmem=ha_innodb_plugin.so;innodb_cmpmem_reset=ha_innodb_plugin.so
+
+ Then mysql won't start, reporting that it can't load the innodb plugin.
+ If it starts, we've solved the problem.
+
+ == Original Report ==
+
Attempting to run the mysql testsuite fails with the apparmor policy as
shipped in maverick with the following rejection:

  [72565.740926] type=1400 audit(1281713173.741:61): apparmor=DENIED
  operation=file_mmap parent=18416 profile=/usr/sbin/mysqld
  name=/usr/lib/mysql/plugin/ha_innodb_plugin.so.0.0.0 pid=18417
  comm=mysqld requested_mask=m denied_mask=m fsuid=1000 ouid=0

The following needs to be added to the apparmor profile for mysqld:

- /usr/lib/mysql/plugin/*.so* m,
+   /usr/lib/mysql/plugin/*.so* m,

This also may be an issue on lucid, though I haven't built a version of
mysql there with the fix for bug 617461 to reproduce it.

[Bug 684051] [NEW] qemu-debootstrap doesn't parse --keyring correctly

2010-12-02 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

pbuilder passes arguments to qemu-debootstrap which it doesn't parse

correctly:

| # pbuilder --create --distribution sid --debootstrapopts --arch=armel
--debootstrap qemu-debootstrap

|...

| I: running qemu-debootstrap

| /usr/bin/qemu-debootstrap

| I: Running command: debootstrap --arch armel --foreign --include=apt
--variant=buildd --keyring /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg sid .
http://cdn.debian.net/debian
|...

| I: Running command: chroot sid /debootstrap/debootstrap --second-stage

| chroot: failed to run command `/debootstrap/debootstrap': No such file or
directory

| E: qemu-debootstrap failed

| W: Aborting with an error

The bug is qemu-debootstrap can parse --keyring=foo but not --keyring foo. It

shifts all the arguments up by one, and thinks sid is the target, rather than

the distribution.

Patch attached.

[Bug 392968] Re: beautifulsoup 3.1 is buggy, provide 3.0 by default

2011-02-13 Thread Stefano Rivera
Beautiful Soup 3.1 is broken. however, as it has some more features
than 3.0 it should be provided in a separate packages.

That is not something that can be easily done with Python packages, only
a single version can be in th archive at a time. BeautifulSoup 4 looks
like it'll have the package name beatifulsoup so it may be installable
concurrently with 3.x which is called BeautifulSoup (on unix).

I've taken over the maintainance of this package on Debian, and now need
to work out how best to handle this... :/

2011-03-28 Thread Stefano Rivera
Sorry for the delay on testing. We are having no issue with the lucid
update, and have tested the maverick one too.

Aiko:
I've prepared a PPA Build with a later version of the patch you linked to:
https://launchpad.net/~stefanor/+archive/sru

It seems to work (no regressions), but we also aren't seeing the issue you are
(a timeout).
I suggest filing a separate bug for this.

[Bug 59035] tifm driver (out of tree) needed for TI SD reader

2006-09-05 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

:06:09.3 Mass storage controller: Texas Instruments PCIxx21

The tifm driver (http://tifmxx.berlios.de/) is needed to properly
support this device.

Gentooers managed to do it with sdhci, but it's *really* messy: http

On dapper, the best I could get was this:

Re: [Bug 122703] Re: Upgrade Atheros drivers to snapshot/trunk to support AR5008

2008-02-28 Thread Stefano Rivera
Hi Don (2008.02.27_22:26:14_+0200)
ath5k has been added to upstream kernel 2.6.25. A backport of the module
 might fix the issue.

IIRC ath5k doesn't support AR5008. Only madwifi trunk does.

[Bug 192471] [NEW] Copy Pasted partition inherits an identical UUID

2008-02-16 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

If you use parted to Copy Paste a partition, then it will have an
identical UUID.

While that may be the correct behaviour for pasting on a different disk,
when the partition is on the *same* disk (e.g. you want to migrate /home
to a separate partition without messing around with cpio/tar/cp) then
it's almost certainly incorrect behaviour.

In this day and age of mounting by UUID, having multiple partitions with the
same UUID is disastrous and very confusing:
* The output of mount is incorrect
* You have no idea which one is being mounted
* umount gets confused and refuses to let you unmount the correct partition

You can recreate this easily using a flash drive.

(This isn't a problem I have had personally, although I've recreated it;
it was reported to me on IRC)

Tested on gutsy/amd64:
ii gparted0.3.3-2ubuntu6.1
  GNOME partition editor
ii libparted1.7-1 1.7.1-5.1ubuntu8
The GNU Parted disk partitioning shared library

[Bug 178073] Support cherry-picking subtrees from a CVS repo

2007-12-22 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: config-manager

Say I'm building a config for drupal, I'd like to checkout the drupal
sources + a couple of modules, all from the same CVS repo:

./ pserver://anonymous:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/cvs/drupal/drupal?tag=DRUPAL-5
./sites/all/modules/pathauto pserver://anonymous:[EMAIL
PROTECTED]/cvs/drupal/contributions/modules/pathauto?tag=DRUPAL-5

config-manager interprets
pserver://anonymous:[EMAIL
PROTECTED]/cvs/drupal/contributions/modules/pathauto
to mean that the repository is /cvs/drupal/contributions/modules and
the module pathauto rather than repository being /cvs/drupal and the
module contributions/modules/pathauto

For now, I'm using drupal's published tarballs for modules

[Bug 231461] [NEW] bluetooth-applet should have an option to turn off bluetooth

2008-05-17 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez-gnome

This is a wish-list request, from a Hardy user, bluez-gnome
0.25-0ubuntu1

On laptops without hardware bluetooth kill-switches (i.e. Apple
products), an option to turn on and off Bluetooth in software would be
nice to have (basically, take down hci0 and remove the bluetooth
module).

This can lead to significant power savings, and may be required for the
use of laptops on board aircraft, etc.

Re: [Bug 97305] Re: IMDB scraping broken (website format changed)

2007-05-01 Thread Stefano Rivera
Hi Onkar (2007.05.01_20:13:54_+0200)
I tried plugin update as per instructions at
http://wiki.gcstar.org/en/update but it didn't actually update IMDB
 plugin.

That's because ubuntu has version 1.0.0. The right update is only
available for 1.1.1.

Try replacing your /usr/share/gcstar/lib/GCPlugins/GCfilms/GCImdb.pm
with http://rivera.za.net/tmp/GCImdb.pm (from gcstar 1.1.1)

This works for me.

Hi Nicolò (2007.05.27_14:21:17_+0200)
 great! have you tested them?

No. I'm not on intimate terms with building for xorg... But I will take
a look at them when I get a chance :-)

I've only ever packaged 1 xorg component, and that was a *horrific*
driver for touch screens (Tcl build-system with broken hardcoded bits)

[Bug 115388] Re: Ubuntu 'do_release_upgrade doesn't work behind proxy

Unfortunatly that doesn't help me with my *really* horrible case. We

Can the upgrade not be done in a way that doesn't require internet
access, but just a local mirror?

[Bug 228247] [NEW] Update-manager requires connectivity to changelog.ubuntu.com - mirrors don't work

2008-05-08 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

The upgrade manager needs to download http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-
release before it will display an Upgrade button.

For firewalled machines with a local mirror and machines requiring NTLM-
authenticated proxy access, there is never an upgrade button. Even if
there is a complete local mirror.

Observed on the Gutsy-Hardy upgrade. We run a local FTP mirror, and our
users have not been getting the option to upgrade, because outside
connections to port 80 are firewalled. (NTLM proxies preferred). We
worked around this by setting up a special proxy for meta-release.

Preferably the meta-release file should be moved to archive.ubuntu.com
where the mirrors can carry it, and update-manager can get it from a
local mirror. If this isn't possible, a configurable location would at
least help our users.

I've discussed this with mvo, he agrees that this should be solved.

[Bug 148972] Gutsy beta i386 doesn't boot on ThinkPad T30

2007-10-04 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

I feel awkward reporting this, but I can't see any logical explanation.

Gutsy beta i386 won't boot at all (i.e. no syslinux menu) on an IBM
ThinkPad T30.

I've tried 3 brands of CD-Rs, but the CDROM drive (IBM CD-RW/DVD
92P6562/92P6563 REV 101) just doesn't like them.

The same CDs work on other machines, and other CDs (or rewriting a CD-RW
with another bootable image) works on this drive. So it must be
something to do with the Gutsy image...

It appears to be more complex than I thought. In Gutsy beta, the Master

headphones.

So the correct thing to do is select Front Master for both Gnome Sound
