I can confirm that this problem is fixed. It still gives the error, but with the option to 'ignore and install'. The only thing I don't get is why World of Goo for example never gave any errors in previous Ubuntu releases. [Bug 712377] Re: Opening a known good *.deb with software centre, fails to install as lintian errors cannot be overidden
I have tried installing World of Goo but I got the same problem again. I've got the download from the humble bundle site, so it's perfectly trusted. I get the same problem too with Google App Inventor, so it's not a bug in the World of Goo package. I've also tried installing Skype, this does work for some mysterious reason. I'm running 11.04 with the latest updates. Please note that I do have a PPA with the latest daily of Unity, but I don't think that's the problem. Here's the error message (with Google App Inventor, from the regular Google site): The package is of bad quality The installation of a package which violates the quality standards isn't allowed. This could cause serious problems on your computer. Please contact the person or organisation who provided this package file and include the details beneath. And here are more details: Lintian check results for /home/sjoerd/Downloads/appinventor-setup_1.1_all.deb: E: appinventor-setup: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object ./usr/google/appinventor/commands-for-Appinventor/adb E: appinventor-setup: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object ./usr/google/appinventor/commands-for-Appinventor/emulator E: appinventor-setup: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object ./usr/google/appinventor/commands-for-Appinventor/mksdcard I run Ubuntu 11.04, latest updates. I do run the 64-bit edition. And again, Skype didn't install before and now it does. But the fix doesn't work for all software, in fact, it doesn't work for most software. Altough I don't think it's really relevant, here are my hardware specs: AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz 2GB DDR2 RAM 800MHz 500GB Hard disk, 7200RPM ATI RADEON HD3450 Videocard, 256Mb And the basic stuff (17 Monitor, USB, disk drive etc..) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712377 Title: Opening a known good *.deb with software centre, fails to install as lintian errors cannot be overidden -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 567292] [NEW] Ugly (old) volume icon in Totem (and other players)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Hey, I'm sorry if I'm reporting this bug incorrectly, this is my first bug report ever so I hope you'll understand. Since a couple of days the volume icon in Totem, Rhythmbox, and pretty much all players who use the default icon have lost their monochrome icon that they should have. It has been replaced by the old, ugly icon which appeared in the early Lucid stages as a placeholder for the current icon. Here is a picture: http://i.imgur.com/UBpfP.png I'm pretty sure this is not what Canonical intended. With the release candidate within a few days this should be solved pretty soon! Since this is a easy to solve issue, I do not see why this hasn't been solved yet. By the way, since that time Xv video output doesn't work anymore with Gstreamer. I do not know if it is related, but if it is.. It can be useful information. Here a link for more details concerning the Xv issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1457205 (Again, I don't think it is related, but if it is.. It may be useful) The issue pretty much has been confirmed, there are a lot of other Ubuntu users with this issue, here's a link with more information: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1455848 I'm Running Ubuntu 10.04 with the latest updates. Totem, Rhythmbox or any other players don't give any errors.. It looks like this issue is theme-related.. Problem still exists on Feisty Fawn (this is an amd64 machine; previous machine was i386). The ld.so.conf work-around mentioned above still works (for the Python test case and for Newton Desktop Wiki). I didn't test the RPATH fixes, but I suppose they should still work as well. Boris, I wanted to try your fix, but I don't have the file /usr/lib/firefox/components/compreg.dat. The only compreg.dat on my system exists in my personal profile in my home directory. Removing that doesn't seem to achieve any effect. Is this the same bug? On Tuesday 01 May 2007, Alexander Sack wrote: I think the most natural thing would be to fix this on python-gtkmozembed side for now. rpath sounds good. ld.so.conf might interfere with other gecko apps that ship their own gecko libs. The rpath fix would need to be applied to Firefox. python-gtkmozembed (python-gnome2-extras) already has the rpath set to contain /usr/lib/firefox. I'm not sure if this will cause problems for other packages. If the ld.so.conf work-around is considered, I would suggest using /etc/ld.so.conf.d/. This will make uninstallation of the package less of a nightmare. It is of note that /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh and /usr/lib/firefox/firefox both set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to contain their respective mozilla library directories. Adding the ld.so.conf(.d) work around might not have as big an impact as we fear, but I do believe other alternatives might be better; if we have any. For applications that live in the gnome panel LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not an option. How do other distributions solve this problem with Firefox and python-gtkmozembed? Re: [Bug 398451] Re: b43 gives fatal dma error on amd athlon based machine(s)
I've booted my machine into 9.10 and was able to successfully connect my machine. No dma errors as far as I could see. In the past I managed to establish a connection sometimes, but after a few minutes it always disconnected. Or rather failed to transmit any data without actually disconnecting. Now everything seems perfectly fine. In Lucid Lynx however, connecting froze my system immediately until I removed the wifi-card from my machine. But of course 10.04 is in alpha stage, so problems could be expected. (I've experienced freezes on my 'working' machine with this wifi-card and 9.04, but I should give it a try on 9.10 to see if that's still an issue). So, problem solved! [Bug 26436] Re: gtkmozembed crashs with python
I just reread this bug report. It seems to me there really are two bugs here. The bug that is reported upstream is definitely not the bug I, and apparently others, are experiencing. The C test worked, while the Python version is consistently not working. The LD_LIBRARY_PATH work around works for some while others report it non-working. I'm not sure which bug the reporter was experiencing, but if I had to wager a guess, it would not be the LD_LIBRARY_PATH bug. I think this bug report needs to be split. (Is something like that possible?) -- gtkmozembed crashs with python https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/26436 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 26436] Re: gtkmozembed crashs with python
I have been hunting this bug yesterday. It annoyed me I haven't been able to use Newton Desktop Wiki since I started using Dapper. The Python script above reproduced the problem for me and I used this to test my solutions. Setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/lib/firefox as is mentioned by some above and in other places did work. gtkmozembed.so provided by python-gnome2-extras already has an RPATH set to /usr/lib/firefox, so it does not help this library. But /usr/lib/firefox/libgtkembedmoz.so has no such RPATH set. My theory is that the crash is due to some dynamic loading of libraries by the component. Python loads gtkmozembed.so, which loads libgtkembedmoz.so which (I think) tries to load some additional libs that reside in /usr/lib/firefox. It cannot find these, because they are not in the linker's search path. Due to some missing or broken error handling, this results in a crash instead of a friendly error message. This is my theory. I tested this by compiling Firefox (and therefore libgtkembedmoz.so) with RPATH set. This resulted in a working test case. Good. The attached patch fixes the Firefox package. In Debian Policy RPATH is frowned upon. I don't know if this is the same in Ubuntu. Seeing that gnome-python-extras uses RPATH, I think not. But it can be a one off error. In that case, the same problem can also be solved by creating a file /etc/ld.so.conf.d/firefox.conf with /usr/lib/firefox as contents. (Run ldconfig after that.) A good work-around while this isn't fixed is adding /usr/lib/firefox to /etc/ld.so.conf and running ldconfig. It is interesting to note that xulrunner puts libgtkembedmoz.so and friends in /usr/lib, thereby bypassing this whole issue. I hope this bug can be fixed before Feisty, since I would really, really like to be able to use Newton out of the box again. I think Elliott's bug is a different one. ** Attachment added: Firefox patch to set RPATH to /usr/lib/firefox http://librarian.launchpad.net/6609795/ff-rpath.patch -- gtkmozembed crashs with python https://launchpad.net/bugs/26436 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 309006] [NEW] Kopete doesn't escape HTML in receiving messages

[Bug 788683] Re: Unity grid is broken for multi-monitor with right-hand side primary
This bug seems to be solved in unity 4.28.0 already. The only related (minor) flaw I can detect is that if you try to dock a window on the right side of the left-hand monitor, and you move your mouse pointer a little bit onto the other monitor, the indicator shows it will be docked on the left monitor, but releasing the mouse button docks the window on the left side of the right-hand monitor. That's no biggie though, and I guess I should be filing a different bugreport for that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788683 Title: Unity grid is broken for multi-monitor with right-hand side primary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/788683/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1064924] Re: Please add LVDS quirk for the zotac zbox
Yes this bug remains an issue for me, the problem really is there is no solution that works for everyone. Just to recap the problem with these machines is that they have an external HDMI encoder which is hooked up to the LVDS output of the GPU. Linux itself doesn't support configuring that encoder, so unless you're lucky enough that the bios/default hardware setup of the encoder matches the equipment hooked up to it HDMI output doesn't work. Which leaves two options: 0) Add a no-lvds quirk, which disables the LVDS output alltogether 1) Not adding a quirk, which does mean HDMI out works if the stars align just right but causes issues for those not using HDMI or those that are less lucky. Linux upstream picked solution 1, as option 0 causes regression for those folks which have correctly aligned stars. Which means i'll keep seeing the issue as i'm not using the HDMI out. The only real solution for this would be for someone to add support for the external encoder to the kernel, which is a non-trivial amount of work and is relatively unlikely to happen as it's a quite old chipset by now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1064924 Title: Please add LVDS quirk for the zotac zbox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1064924/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1875649] Re: Screen flickering in Kubuntu 20.04 on Lenovo Yoga C940 14-IIL
This is a small piece of the log when watching a log. the i915 eDP driver receives a "hotplug event received", which corresponds with a slingle flickering of the screen. So I assume something goes wrong with retraining the link, or for some reason the screen thinks that the pc is disconnected and triggers an interrupt, which then for some other reason flickers the screen. I'm not well-versed with eDP 1.4, so I assume to be totally wrong. ** Attachment added: "relevant portion of dmesg with "drm.debug=14" kernel parameter" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1875649/+attachment/5362494/+files/dmesg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875649 Title: Screen flickering in Kubuntu 20.04 on Lenovo Yoga C940 14-IIL To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1875649/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1872760] Re: i915 - after return from suspend display is flickering
So it looks thesame (maybe a little less) but happens under different circumstances? I'm experiencing a similar issue and maybe got a temporary fix. All I know is that with my laptop (Lenovo Yoga C940 14IL) i've got thesame flickering as in that issue on Kubuntu 19.10, Kubuntu 20.04 and Fedora KDE 31. Those are all 5.3.x and 5.4.x kernels if I got my kernel numbers right. I've tried upgrading Kubuntu 20.04 to mainline kernel 5.6.0-050600 and that didn't work. Upgrading to 5.7-rc2 seems to work, but network card doesn't work out of the box. I've tried this issue with OpenGL 2.0, 3.1 and XRender with various settings for vsync, that does have major effect to occurrence, and that's why I think that how often it occurs isn't that important. Could you try to install 5.6.0-050600 and 5.7-rc2 to confirm that the underlying issue is thesame and fixed in 5.7? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872760 Title: i915 - after return from suspend display is flickering To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1872760/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1875073] [NEW] Screen flickering in Kubuntu 20.04 on Lenovo Yoga C940 14-IIL
Public bug reported: I'm experiencing a problem extremely similar to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/272 My screen flickers too on a fresh install of Kubuntu 20.04LTS https://imgur.com/a/FoWI1sp Results of `inxi -Gx` ` Graphics: Device-1: Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 vendor: Lenovo driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.8 driver: modesetting resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: Mesa Intel Iris Plus Graphics (ICL GT2) v: 4.6 Mesa 20.1.0-devel (git-a64d266 2020-04-25 focal-oibaf-ppa) direct render: Yes ` I've tried 915.enable_psr=0 as a boot parameter, didn't work. nomodeset does get me into a bootable image, but I'm looking into getting a working driver. Fedora 31 was having a similar issue, there was barely any flickering up untill some recent kernel updates. (about a couple small ones every 10 minutes or so) Kubuntu 19.10 was quite stable too, untill I installed a lenovo provided firmware update (from AUCN45WW to AUCN54WW), which made it slightly worse. I also tried a couple of other kernel parameters that haven't had any effect. Running kernel 5.6 on Kubuntu did have thesame issue as regular kubuntu 20.04. Running kernel 5.7-rc2 did fix the problem, but networking and sound was dead, so it's only half a solution. I highly suspect it's an issue with i915, but I don't know how I would trace it down. [Bug 1875073] Re: Screen flickering in Kubuntu 20.04 on Lenovo Yoga C940 14-IIL
I tried getting a debug log of drm.i915 using "drm.debug=0x06" as a kernel parameter. In the log dmesg.txt there's a "hotplug event received" in batches, everytime one of those appears, my screen flickers. Which is weird to me since I don't unplug my fixed laptop screen. It's likely that this is not a hardware faillure since this problem is not reproducible on Windows. ** Attachment added: "dmesg log with kernel parameter "drm.debug=0x06"" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1875073/+attachment/5361005/+files/dmesg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875073 Title: Screen flickering in Kubuntu 20.04 on Lenovo Yoga C940 14-IIL To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1875073/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

While https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/1873587 also happens, I'm not that interested in it. I get screen flicker during normal operation like watching video or opening a program. [Bug 801437] [NEW] parser too strict
Public bug reported: Hi everyone, I spent the last few hours mounting and repairing my system from LiveCD because of a failed update to 11.04. The reason why my system got corrupted was a parsing error in /var/lib/dpkg/status and /available. It was caused by a .deb package (compiz-switch) with a Priority: low annotation. Of course this is an error of the .deb, but it seems to me that the dpkg parser is too strict in marking it as junk and hanging the whole system on it. Everything worked fine under 10.10. If the parser would treat any priorities it doesn't understand as optional, I would be happy. ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801437 Title: parser too strict To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/801437/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
