That is very interesting indeed. If we can make some extension to
nautilus or gtk itself to adjust the hue and the contrast of the icons
at runtime depending on the prevailing bg color it would be very good.
If we consider the fact that the gimp code can be used it should be
really easy task to do.
Another option would be to have several different icons that represent,
for example, folder and named smth like this:
folder_normal
folder_dark
folder_light
folder_midtone
folder_{color name or definition}
and use them upon automatic detection of the icon's bg.
Is this stuff possible?

The different color menus make it less boring without them, it looks like everything is the same color. On my Mac I have installed VMWare's Fusion program and this enables me to run, in addition to Mac OS, separate windows at the same time, one for Ubuntu and one for Windows. Thanks, Andrew. As far as I know windows cannot be installed inside a logical partition and I have also heard it cannot be installed within any other partition than the first one on the disk. If both are true then I would recommend backing up all the data on the hard drive and then using a tool such as gparted to move your current ubuntu install over and make a primary partition at the beginning of the disk for windows. Once you have done that you can then get windows installed but then grub will no longer be present as the windows bootloader overwrites it. That is no problem though, just boot an ubuntu live cd and then do the following: 1. open a terminal and run the command sudo grub 2. in the grub prompt type find /boot/grub/stage1 and note the output. 3. next type root (hd0,1) in the grub prompt replacing the hd0,1 with the output from the previous command. 4. then in the grub prompt type setup (hd0) 5. grub should now be restore and you can type quit at the grub prompt and restart the PC to check all went well. The information on how to restore grub was taken from the quick start section at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows#Quick%20Start and this is the method I usually use if I have to install windows next to a previous ubuntu install or if windows needs reinstalling and overwrites grub. The other option is to run windows inside a virtual machine within ubuntu. Ubuntu is a standard installation, its Grub being on its own hard drive. So it hasn't touched the Windows drive. So it hasn't touched the Windows drive. That is what I have done, it is very satisfactory. I needed to make an addition to grub so that I am able to choose which drive I want. With my motherboard, if I press F8 while the BIOS is booting, I can select which hard drive to boot into. In my set up I press Esc and then select the Windows drive, straight forward boot gives me the Ubuntu drive. Tem certeza disso? Que eu saiba, a parte mais externa, que é o final do HD, é a mais eficiente. Eu também tenho esta impressão, pois a velocidade angular deve ser a mesma em toda a superfície da mídia, logo, o tempo para completar um giro deve ser o mesmo, e como a parte mais externa tem maior raio e, por conseguinte maior circunferência, no mesmo tempo acessa-se mais dados. Me corrijam se eu estiver errado, mas com certeza a parte mais externa é o final do HD, é só ver em um CD com poucos dados gravados que ele ficam na parte mais interna. Eu nao vejo problema em divulgar o conteúdo da lista em um site nao, pois ele nao ta fazendo plagio, e sim colocando informacoes de uma lista de discussão em um site, de conteúdo aberto. E se notarem no site, ele faz menção ao tema relacionado ao assunto no cabeçalho da mensagem. Vocês sabiam que muita gente não usa o linux por que nao sabe configurar, e nem onde encontrar conteúdo (parece dificil de acreditar)? Amigos não vejo problema dos posts aqui da lista estarem disponíveis na net, tanto é que já estão nos arquivos da lista que podem ser acessados por qualquer um. Agora pra coisa ficar assim do jeito q tá - automática ... acho meio complicado ... sei lá acho que o dono do blog podia ao menos informar aos membros da lista que tá fazendo isso. Я сдуру (забыв про ключик -b) продолжил качать введя вышеприведенную команды с ключом -с. Теперь мой все еще качающийся дистр весит 4,6 вместо положенных 4,2. Assume the following setup: Node A running a DRBD drive (OCFS2) with local (/dev/md5) metadata and mounted at /shared Node B running a DRBD drive (OCFS2) with local (/dev/md5) metadata and mounted at /shared A runs an FTP server Client X starts transferring a file into the FTP server on A which is writing to /shared i.e. /shared is mounted AND in use If Node B (which is doing nothing really) gets rebooted by typing 'reboot', Node A upon detecting the DRBD network failure also reboots - this is a hard reboot (no logs, or shutdown actions run). Il me semble me souvenir que par défaut, c'est Thunar qui s'installe avec Hardy Heron. Il faut installer Nautilus à partir de Synaptic. La principale différence est l'accès réseau que Nautilus permet et pas Thunar (ou alors j'ai pas trouvé). bonjour j'ai tenté d'installer LERNU sans succès ,ce logiciel est télé- chargeable sur cursodeesperanto.com.br/bazo/index.php?fr je met a jour réguliérement mon PC Compac EVO pent 4 .Le plus simple serait de pouvoir le télécharger depuis sinaptic mais il n'y est pas. Lorsque tu décompresses ce fichier, tu vois que l'archive contient: install.sh kurso-inst.tar.gz Il te suffit de décompresser cette archive n'importe où: $ tar -xzvf kurso.tar.gz $ sudo ./install.sh A ce moment, le programme est installé par défaut dans /usr/share/kurso. Le fichier de config kurso.conf est placé dans /etc et l'install crée les liens symboliques dans /usr/bin pour les exécutables. Tu le lances en tapant: $ kurso ou $ kurso3 Je ne sais pas quelle différence il y a entre les deux. Si mon souvenir est bon, la Sun Sparc5 contient des disques durs scsi et n'a pas d'ide ou d'atapi pour le cdrom. Donc je suppose que tu ne dois rien installer comme driver puisque le support scsi est d'origine. C'est fréquent sur ce genre de machine. J'ai encore au boulot deux HP9000 sous hp-ux 9 qui n'ont pas d'ide. Lorsqu'on a troqué les lecteurs de bande contre des lecteurs CD, on n'a rien du faire de spécial si je ne me trompe pas. I had changed the wrong variable for the default title number and was reading teh VTS files too often. This updated patch has the loops reorganised to only open the VTS files once - although it still has to skip over titles that are not within that VTS rather than knowing straight away where to start looking. However, this is the method used elsewhere in stream_dvd.c too, so it may not be possible to do it better. At the moment this code appears to be working (i.e. selects the longest title). However, I've been testing on Cygwin, and mplayer actually segfaults in the audio decoding phase on my test DVD. Note that at the moment I am just selecting the longest title, I have another version which selects the title at the start of the longest title set - I don't really know which makes most sense. I think the version supplied is the most intuitive (title not titleset). I only mention this because my test DVD has loads and loads of titles (extras disc). (version 8.04, up-to-date every day). yesterday it reported errors after
boot screen with Ubuntu logo instead of switching to GUI mode. screen

and just before system hangs there is one more line:

Now here we are! I have analyzed the content of applications directory and I have found that was the Firefox desktop file that have a problem. I have deleted this one and now the url saved on desktop open correctly in Firefox (in the mean time Gnome (or Nautilus?) has created automatically a new Firefox desktop file that function correctly).
