[Bug 844336] [NEW] snmpd launched before network is fully up

2011-09-07 Thread Scott Duckworth
Public bug reported:

If /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf contains hostnames which must be resolved using
DNS, snmpd will not be able to resolve those hostnames and seems to
ignore those entries. In most cases, DNS is available and this would
not be an issue. However, when the system is booted, the snmpd daemon
launches before networking is fully up (DHCP has not yet received an IP
address from the DHCP server).

We see the following in /var/log/daemon.log:

Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 4: Error: bad
source address
Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 5: Error: bad
source address
Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 13: Error: bad
prefix match parameter 0, should be: exact or prefix - installing anyway
Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: net-snmp: 3 error(s) in config file(s)
Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: NET-SNMP version 5.4.2.1
Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port
67 interval 16
Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPOFFER of 130.127.48.130 from 130.127.48.1
Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPREQUEST of 130.127.48.130 on eth0 to
255.255.255.255 port 67
Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPACK of 130.127.48.130 from 130.127.48.1

/etc/init.d/snmpd defines Required-Start to depend on the $network
virtual facility, but LSB 3.1 defines $network to be basic networking
support is available. Example: a server program could listen on a
socket. which does not imply that things such as DNS name resolution
will be available.

Other daemons such as ntpd have the same issue, but they seem to begin
to work properly once the system has acquired an IP address via DHCP.
snmpd should exhibit this same behavior or it should wait until DNS name
resolution is available.

Not the exact same sequence as the bug reporter, but just qemu-kvm -vnc

[Bug 843838] Re: Audio and video playing almost 3x too fast

2011-09-07 Thread Hunter Trahan
apport information

** Description changed:

I have had Ubuntu for about three or four days now and I my audio and video
have worked just fine. This morning I started it up and my video and audio
files play way too fast, and I cannot hear the audio, but I can see by the
timer that the audio files are playing too fast as well. I've read a few forums
on the subject but I have not found a solution. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

[Bug 844219] [NEW] Guest Account has read access to /home

2011-09-07 Thread Matthew Eaton
Public bug reported:

I am uncertain as to which package to file this bug against. Please be
gentle. This is my first bug report. :)

1) matt@matt-ubuntu-beta:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release:11.10

2) Lightdm?

3) Expected behavior: In 11.04 the Guest Account does not have
sufficient privileges to access /home. I expected this same behavior
with the Guest Account in 11.10.

4) What happened instead: In 11.10 the Guest Account has read access to
/home and the home directories within.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
Package: lightdm 0.9.5-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-10.16-generic 3.0.4
Uname: Linux 3.0.0-10-generic i686
Architecture: i386
Date: Wed Sep 7 12:29:50 2011
ExecutablePath: /usr/sbin/lightdm
InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Beta i386 (20110901)
ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user)
SourcePackage: lightdm
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

[Bug 844211] Re: It should be possible to check the visiliby of a LauncherEntry

2011-09-07 Thread Treviño
Confirmed according to this log of #ubuntu-classroom:

ClassBot Trevinho asked: is actually impossible to check if a launcher entry
is actually shown in the unity bar and maybe notified when it is there... Is
this something planned (or that I can do :) )?
DBO Currently there is no method for checking the contents of the launcher,
this is a planned feature we feel desperately needs fixing :)
DBO and yes Trevinho, this is certainly something you could do :)

[Bug 834571] Re: [dash] Apps lens shows no result by default

2011-09-07 Thread Neil J. Patel
I've linked branches for the lenses. I think Gwibber is not displaying
initial results for different reasons, will investigate separately.

I do not think anything needs to be fixed in libunity, unity-lens-search
makes the initial search_string = NULL from my tests, so I think the
main issue was with the daemons ignoring the null search (they were all
doing this apart from Gwibber). In my tests (with the workarounds in
Unity removed), they all display results initially, so I hope this fixes
the issue for 2D too.

[Bug 821919] Re: Oneiric (live cd only): Alt+F2 sometimes not working in Unity 2D

2011-09-07 Thread Jan Rathmann
@Chris
Your description sounds that you are describing a different bug. If I got you
right, the prompt window where you enter the command to execute does at least
appear for you when you press Alt-F2. The problem, that I'm reporting here is
that nothing at all happens when I press Alt+F2.
So I suggest it might be a good idea if you open a separate bug report about
your problem.

Re: [Bug 841660] Re: nslcd complains about / in groupnames

2011-09-07 Thread Arthur de Jong
On Tue, 2011-09-06 at 06:23 +, Klavs Klavsen wrote:
The version in Ubuntu Lucid is unfortunately 0.7.2 - so the very welcome
validnames option in v0.8.2 is really not helpful, as I can only run LTS
 versions in my production environment.

Would you welcome a patch against the 0.7.2 package, which added the
 validnames option ?

I'm not responsible for the Ubuntu package (I'm upstream) so can't
comment on that part but the implementation of the validnames option in
the 0.8 series is here:
  http://arthurdejong.org/viewvc/nss-pam-ldapd/?revision=1411view=revision
with another small change here:
  http://arthurdejong.org/viewvc/nss-pam-ldapd/?revision=1419view=revision

Another option would be to just allow the slash in nslcd/common.c.

If Ubuntu is considering updating this package in their LTS release
anyway it may also be a good idea to look at all the other things that
have been fixed in the 0.7 series. Quite a few bugs were fixed and
Debian ships 0.7.13 in stable which is much better tested than 0.7.2.

Thanks,

I agree with Alexander Wilms that I have more freedom on Mac OS and Windows
user interface that I have on Unity.
The way that Unity developers are treating their users, is the same way that
Apple and Microsoft do to their.
All my friends that uses Ubuntu, claims about Unity.

[Bug 844212] [NEW] tcpdump can't gzip files

2011-09-07 Thread Nick Semenkovich
Public bug reported:

With apparmor set to enforce tcpdump policy, tcpdump won't work as
according to the manpages:

From the manpages:

-z Used in conjunction with the -C or -G options, this will make tcpdump
run command file where file is the savefile being closed after each
rotation. For example, specifying -z gzip or -z bzip2 will compress each
savefile using gzip or bzip2.

Note that tcpdump will run the command in parallel to the capture, using the
lowest priority so that this doesn't disturb the capture process.

Example command:
/usr/sbin/tcpdump -i eth0 -n -W 1 -G 1 -z gzip -w %m-%d-%y-%H:%S.pcap

[Bug 839609] Re: [11.10 beta1] UnicodeDecodeError crash on simplified chinese input of fake command

2011-09-07 Thread Dennis Chua
More effort put into this problem yielded a likely solution (i.e.
'hack'). First of all, the Python Exception was

UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe6 in
position 0: ordinal not in range(128)

This was with the bogus Simplified Chinese command 我。The expected way
command-not-found should have handled this would be something like:

root@u-VirtualBox:~# mgcc

Now the hack involves updating two Python files in the package:

(1) /usr/lib/command-not-found (line 24) :
cnf.install(unicode=True)  == cnf.install(unicode=False)

(2) /usr/share/pyshared/CommandNotFound/util.py (line 9):
_ = gettext.translation(command-not-found, fallback=True).ugettext ==
_ = gettext.translation(command-not-found, fallback=True).lgettext

With these edits in place, command-not-found can now handle the test
case:

root@u-VirtualBox:~# 我
我:找不到命令

root@u-VirtualBox:~# mgcc

[Bug 844238] [NEW] Nautilus cut/copy/paste requires selecting cut/copy twice

2011-09-07 Thread John M
Public bug reported:

At least since Ubuntu alpha 3, nautilus requires selecting Cut/Copy
twice, otherwise the Paste option does not activate. The behavior is
the same if done from the Edit menu, the context menu or the
Ctrl+{X,C,V} keys.

I get the same behavior in both my desktop and my laptop.

[Bug 844235] [NEW] Screen flashes randomly when adjusting Brightness in System Settings - Screen

2011-09-07 Thread Sean Sosik-Hamor

When adjusting the Brightness using System Settings - Screen the screen

fix-committed per Javier's comments. NOTE: To re-iterate what Hernando
said, this does not include the indicator-appmenu leaks.

Suspend *works* on a clean oneiric beta 1 boot on this laptop.

I also tried running 'sudo pm-suspend' with lightdm killed and no X apps
running. The same bug occurred. The output of the second, failing pm-
