[Bug 844336] [NEW] snmpd launched before network is fully up
Public bug reported: If /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf contains hostnames which must be resolved using DNS, snmpd will not be able to resolve those hostnames and seems to ignore those entries. In most cases, DNS is available and this would not be an issue. However, when the system is booted, the snmpd daemon launches before networking is fully up (DHCP has not yet received an IP address from the DHCP server). We see the following in /var/log/daemon.log: Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 4: Error: bad source address Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 5: Error: bad source address Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 13: Error: bad prefix match parameter 0, should be: exact or prefix - installing anyway Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: net-snmp: 3 error(s) in config file(s) Sep 7 15:31:08 dragon9 snmpd[1130]: NET-SNMP version 5.4.2.1 Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 16 Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPOFFER of 130.127.48.130 from 130.127.48.1 Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPREQUEST of 130.127.48.130 on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 Sep 7 15:31:11 dragon9 dhclient: DHCPACK of 130.127.48.130 from 130.127.48.1 /etc/init.d/snmpd defines Required-Start to depend on the $network virtual facility, but LSB 3.1 defines $network to be basic networking support is available. Example: a server program could listen on a socket. which does not imply that things such as DNS name resolution will be available. Other daemons such as ntpd have the same issue, but they seem to begin to work properly once the system has acquired an IP address via DHCP. snmpd should exhibit this same behavior or it should wait until DNS name resolution is available. [Bug 844211] Re: It should be possible to check the visiliby of a LauncherEntry
Confirmed according to this log of #ubuntu-classroom: ClassBot Trevinho asked: is actually impossible to check if a launcher entry is actually shown in the unity bar and maybe notified when it is there... Is this something planned (or that I can do :) )? [Bug 834571] Re: [dash] Apps lens shows no result by default
I've linked branches for the lenses. I think Gwibber is not displaying initial results for different reasons, will investigate separately. I do not think anything needs to be fixed in libunity, unity-lens-search makes the initial search_string = NULL from my tests, so I think the main issue was with the daemons ignoring the null search (they were all doing this apart from Gwibber). In my tests (with the workarounds in Unity removed), they all display results initially, so I hope this fixes the issue for 2D too. ** Branch linked: lp:~njpatel/unity-lens-files/fix-initial-results ** Branch linked: lp:~njpatel/unity-lens-music/fix-initial-results ** Changed in: unity Status: Triaged = In Progress ** Changed in: libunity Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Also affects: unity-lens-applications Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity-lens-applications Status: New = In Progress ** Also affects: unity-lens-music Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity-lens-music Status: New = In Progress ** Also affects: unity-lens-files Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity-lens-files Status: New = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/834571 Title: [dash] Apps lens shows no result by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libunity/+bug/834571/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 821919] Re: Oneiric (live cd only): Alt+F2 sometimes not working in Unity 2D
@Chris Your description sounds that you are describing a different bug. Would you welcome a patch against the 0.7.2 package, which added the validnames option ? I'm not responsible for the Ubuntu package (I'm upstream) so can't comment on that part but the implementation of the validnames option in the 0.8 series is here: http://arthurdejong.org/viewvc/nss-pam-ldapd/?revision=1411view=revision with another small change here: http://arthurdejong.org/viewvc/nss-pam-ldapd/?revision=1419view=revision Another option would be to just allow the slash in nslcd/common.c. If Ubuntu is considering updating this package in their LTS release anyway it may also be a good idea to look at all the other things that have been fixed in the 0.7 series. Quite a few bugs were fixed and Debian ships 0.7.13 in stable which is much better tested than 0.7.2. [Bug 844212] [NEW] tcpdump can't gzip files
Public bug reported: With apparmor set to enforce tcpdump policy, tcpdump won't work as according to the manpages: From the manpages: -z Used in conjunction with the -C or -G options, this will make tcpdump run command file where file is the savefile being closed after each rotation. For example, specifying -z gzip or -z bzip2 will compress each savefile using gzip or bzip2. Note that tcpdump will run the command in parallel to the capture, using the lowest priority so that this doesn't disturb the capture process. [Bug 839609] Re: [11.10 beta1] UnicodeDecodeError crash on simplified chinese input of fake command
More effort put into this problem yielded a likely solution (i.e. 'hack'). First of all, the Python Exception was UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe6 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128) This was with the bogus Simplified Chinese command 我。The expected way command-not-found should have handled this would be something like: root@u-VirtualBox:~# mgcc Now the hack involves updating two Python files in the package: (1) /usr/lib/command-not-found (line 24) : cnf.install(unicode=True) == cnf.install(unicode=False) (2) /usr/share/pyshared/CommandNotFound/util.py (line 9): _ = gettext.translation(command-not-found, fallback=True).ugettext == _ = gettext.translation(command-not-found, fallback=True).lgettext With these edits in place, command-not-found can now handle the test case: root@u-VirtualBox:~# 我 我:找不到命令 root@u-VirtualBox:~# mgcc 未找到 'mgcc' 命令,您要输入的是否是: 命令 'mlcc' 来自于包 'mlterm-tools' (universe) 命令 'cgcc' 来自于包 'sparse' (multiverse) 命令 'gcc' 来自于包 'gcc' (main) 命令 'gcc' 来自于包 'pentium-builder' (universe) mgcc:找不到命令 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839609 Title: [11.10 beta1] UnicodeDecodeError crash on simplified chinese input of fake command To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/command-not-found/+bug/839609/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 779185] Re: unity-panel-service Leaks Memory
These leaks are caused by indicator-power (which we are running in- process, so it looks like panel-service is leaking). Going to mark as fix-committed per Javier's comments. NOTE: To re-iterate what Hernando said, this does not include the indicator-appmenu leaks. ** Changed in: unity Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779185 Title: unity-panel-service Leaks Memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-power/+bug/779185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 844233] [NEW] Toshiba Satellite Pro U300 Freezes during boot on kernel 2.6.38-10-generic
Public bug reported: Since the lastest kernel update to 2.6.38-8 to 2.6.38-10, my laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro U300 freezes just after the boot loader. Screen is blue, and the caps lock key keeps blincking. Selecting the previous kernel in the boot loader launchs ubuntu as usual. [Bug 838729] Re: x200 laptop fails to complete to suspend on second suspend after boot
Suspend *works* on a clean oneiric beta 1 boot on this laptop. I also tried running 'sudo pm-suspend' with lightdm killed and no X apps running. The same bug occurred. The output of the second, failing pm- suspend was the same as the first, successful one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838729 Title: x200 laptop fails to complete to suspend on second suspend after boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/838729/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
