[Bug 1852911] Re: CriticalPowerAction=Suspend should be supported

2024-05-03 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
Wow, this time upstream actually added it even if it is not the default
and requires a scary "AllowRiskyCriticalPowerAction=true" setting.
Making it the default after HybridSleep and Hibernate but before
PowerOff would make a lot more sense but at least this doesn't require
the users to manually patch software just to configure a sane behavior.

[Bug 1999155] Re: UFW Disabled by default

2022-12-08 Thread Pedro Daniel Vieira Rosado
We've decided that it's better for the tools to be available but not try
to provide a default configuration -> then why isn't gufw (gtk gui for
ufw) isn't installed by default for ubuntu desktop? Plasma 5 has a gui
for the firewall inside the system settings. Since Ubuntu has altered
the gnome-settings to add the ubuntu-settings portion (mainly to tweak
the dock) why doesn't ubuntu with gnome have a similar tool for the
desktop? Either making use of ufw or putting a way on the settings to
add incoming and outgoing rules through a gui.

Heck, even linux mint comes with gufw installed by default.

As for the security and usability aspect, doing sudo ufw enable hasn't
done anything to prevent me from working or doing my tasks on my
machines. And rejecting incoming requests hasn't done it either so makes
little to no sense for me that the firewall is disabled by default or
not enabled with rejecting rule for incoming

On the server side, I've got little to none outgoing rules and full
reject for incoming for security reasons, and it has been a smooth
experience.

Perhaps that decision is a bit outdated? The FAQ page sent by you was
last edited on 28-10-2022, but doesn't allow to see when the ufw part
was last modified, but I suppose it was a long time ago.

[Bug 1988422] Re: Bluetooth discoverability is not communicated to the user adequately in Settings

2022-09-07 Thread Pedro Daniel Vieira Rosado
Correct, and a prompt should be shown when possible malicious files are
sent, to let the user decide if he wants to receive it or not.

It's surreal that you can send any file type with any content and it
will automatically be sent to the download folder without user input, as
long as the device is paired.

[Bug 1988422] Re: device discoverable by default

2022-09-04 Thread Pedro Daniel Vieira Rosado
There could be at least a prompt to turn off visibility to other devices.
As for the sent files, a simple grep or zgrep to exclude some files from being
sent to host via BT would be a security improvement. Specially because if the
user has wine installed and a malicious .exe is sent... it can put the whole
host in danger. Same for malicious scripts that can be used to escalate
privileges on /home/user/downloads.

Open setting on top right of the screen. Turn bluetooth on. As soon as BT is
turned on for ubuntu 22.04, my laptop or desktop are visible to all nearby BT
devices.
Click pair with any device, the prompt will show up in ubuntu 22.04. From that
on, I can send any files over BT and will be sent directly to downloads folder,
malicious or not.

Hello, Daniel.

Yep, I didn't want to open a duplicate.

By the way, the current workaround for this is to disable Wayland:

1. sudo vi /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
2. WaylandEnable=false
3. Reboot

[Bug 1972029] [NEW] dhclient overriding stub-resolv.conf file on Jammy

2022-05-06 Thread Pedro Principeza
Public bug reported:

[Issue]
On Jammy, the stub-resolv.conf file on /run/systemd/resolve gets overwritten if
dhclient is executed.

While debugging this, I found the reference on LP#1889068 [0] of the
move of `resolved` hook from dhclient-enter-hooks.d/ to dhclient-exit-
hooks.d/, and this new hook [2] has no reference of make_resolv_conf()
being called.

[Reproducer]
-
I used a cloud-image based Jammy installation (uvt-kvm). Once in:

$ cat /run/system/resolve/stub-resolv.conf

And one will see:

nameserver 127.0.0.53
options edns0 trust-ad
search .

Then:

$ sudo dhclient
$ cat /run/system/resolve/stub-resolv.conf

You'll see the definition of the nameserver(s) in, and the stub IP
address no longer there. To revert this, a `systemctl restart systemd-
resolved` is needed.

[Impact]

This is an improper way to keep nameserver(s) in *resolv* files; the
override of the file should never happen in these circumstances.

[Extra]
-
As a minor test, I copied over the dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved file from a
Focal installation to a Jammy one, and the problem _does not happen_ when such
hook is in place.

[ . . . ]

Let me know if further clarification is needed to proceed. Thank you.

BR,
pprincipeza

2022-05-04 Thread João Pedro Seara
Daniel, I am reporting it in Jammy.

This is definitely a regression in the sense that we're now having a
problem that we didn't before. This bug is defined as an "opinion" where
it should definitely be a "bug", IMO.

Please check the attached video where I clearly compare 20.04 vs 22.04.

This issue is very annoying in 22.04 indeed. I didn't notice this in

[Bug 1970069] Re: Annoying boot messages interfering with splash screen, since upgrading to Jammy

2022-04-27 Thread João Pedro Seara
** Description changed:

Since upgrading from 20.04.6 Desktop to 22.04, the boot screen is not as
clean as it used to be.

Basically, the flow used to be in 20.04:

GRUB > Splash screen > Login prompt

  Currently in 22.04:

GRUB > Splash screen > Messages (in the attached file) > Splash screen
again for a sec > Login prompt

All of those messages already existed in 20.04, the difference is that
they were not appearing during boot.

I was able to get rid of the "usb" related messages by just adding
"loglevel=0" in GRUB. Currently is "quiet loglevel=0 splash".

- However, the fsck related message, I was not available to get rid of.
+ Regarding the fsck related message, I can get rid of them by adding
+ "fsck.mode=skip".

- Something definitely changed here. To me, these messages are not of
- enough relevance to be shown at boot by default.
+ However, I do not want to just disable fsck or set the loglevel to 0.
+ This is not a sustainable solution.
+
+ Something definitely changed here. These messages are not of enough
+ relevance to be shown at boot by default, and they should remain hidden
+ like they were in Focal.

Obviously a minor issue, but important to the whole look and feel of the
  OS for desktop.

[Bug 1970132] [NEW] Can't uninstall gnome-tweaks from the "Ubuntu Software" GUI

2022-04-24 Thread João Pedro Seara
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Jammy, gnome-tweaks can not be uninstalled from the
application "Ubuntu Software".

The error message is the following: Unable to remove "GNOME Tweaks": no
packages to remove

It can, however be installed with no problem.

Reproducer:

1. Install gnome-tweaks using either apt or the "Ubuntu Software" GUI
2. Try to uninstall it in "Ubuntu Software" GUI by clicking on the red trash bin

Also tested in 20.04. No issues there.

Could this be a side effect of the package name change from "gnome-
tweak-tool" to "gnome-tweaks"?

Check attached image.

[Bug 1970069] Re: Annoying boot messages interfering with splash screen, since upgrading to Jammy

2022-04-24 Thread João Pedro Seara
Hello,

I have spin up two VMs with the exact same specs, one using the 20.04.4
Desktop ISO and other the 22.04 Desktop ISO.

Please check the attached file "Screencast from 24-04-2022
16:39:39.webm".

GRUB config for both VMs:

GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=menu
GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false

As you can see, the 22.04 VM is definitely more verbose, taking splash
screen out of the way.

And please remember these are VMs. On my real hardware I get even
messages that are interfering even more (just some low severity Kernel
warnings that already existed before in Focal but they weren't
interfering with the splash screen) (check attached file
20220422_014058.jpg).

The boot time is the same so this is definitely a low prio/cosmetic
thing. But still something has changed that shouldn't.

[Bug 1969622] Re: save file dialog doesn't allow saving to a directory without files

2022-04-22 Thread João Pedro Seara
Hello folks. Facing this issue as well, thank you very much for jumping
on it so quickly.

The workaround I found is to, instead of navigating to the inside of the
folder, just navigate to one level above, then click on the directory,
click on Save (this will make you enter the directory), and then click
on Save again.

[Bug 1783873] Re: auto-type user and password not working (too fast?)

2022-02-08 Thread Pedro Miguel de Andrade Quental Mendes
I also had problems and got to this page when looking for a solution. The delay
command didn't solve my problem. In my case, the username field was still
ending up with only an ending part of the full string. I could test that with a
text file where I auto-typed the login.
Reading the documentation, I found the clearfield command. It solved my problem.
{CLEARFIELD}{USERNAME}{TAB}{DELAY 100}{PASSWORD}{ENTER}

If you want to test it out with a text file, please hit return twice
before auto typing.

[Bug 1959695] [NEW] Xorg crash

2022-02-01 Thread Pedro David Lopez Mendoza
Public bug reported:

ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa"

-Respecto al ultimo problema intente solucionarlo con
"GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force apm=power_off""

Nada de lo anterior funciono.

Agradezco la atención.

submitted for that error. AFAIU, the error does not affect the problem
we solved with this version of `rasdaemon`.

Also added charm-rabbitmq-server, where this error is more clear.
Rabbitmq-server fails on: https://github.com/openstack/charm-rabbitmq-

eventually fails with:

[Bug 1944080] [NEW] [fan-network] Race-condition between "apt update" and dhcp request causes cloud-init error

2021-09-19 Thread Pedro Guimarães
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Using manual provider on top of VMWare.

Juju: 2.9.14
VM: Focal
Containers: Bionic

I've noticed that, in a given Focal host, 2x Bionic containers may have
different behavior: one successfully completes cloud-init whereas the
other fails. The failed container errors at "apt update" in cloud-init
with:

Err:1 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic InRelease
Something wicked happened resolving 'PROXY_IP:' (-9 - Address family
for hostname not supported)
(Likely this is the line where it breaks:
https://github.com/Debian/apt/blob/766b24b7f7484751950c76bc66d3d6cdeaf949a5/methods/connect.cc#L436)

Failed container, full cloud-init-output.log:
https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/hKNw49mvJP/
Successful container, full cloud-init-output.log:
https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/P6MZdQPrWd/
Host syslog: https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/jjMmWRFd9y/

I can see that, on the host, dnsmasq served the FAN IP to the broken
container after the "apt-update" was called.

- FAILED CONTAINER -:
Sep 19 13:02:14 lma-stack-2 dnsmasq-dhcp[1243]: DHCPOFFER(fan-252)
252.252.15.198 00:16:3e:da:dd:c4
apt-update on cloud-init was ran:
Cloud-init v. 21.2-3-g899bfaa9-0ubuntu2~18.04.1 running 'modules:config' at
Sun, 19 Sep 2021 13:02:13 +. Up 3.90 seconds.

- SUCCESSFUL CONTAINER -:
Sep 19 13:09:40 lma-stack-2 dnsmasq-dhcp[1243]: DHCPOFFER(fan-252)
252.252.15.253 00:16:3e:d7:6b:ef
apt-update on cloud-init was ran:
Cloud-init v. 21.2-3-g899bfaa9-0ubuntu2~18.04.1 running 'modules:config' at
Sun, 19 Sep 2021 13:10:10 +. Up 35.99 seconds.

In the case of the Failed Container, the DHCPOFFER arrived 1s after the
"apt update" was requested, whereas the Successful Container logged a
DHCPOFFER 30s before the "apt update".

Hi.

A customer provided us the feedback from Hirsute's testing. Formally,
on their own words:

"The issue with the Samsung drives is no longer seen with this version,
I'm able to access the drive's registers without issues."

I'm moving on with the verification tagging. Thanks!

[Bug 1885169] Re: Some arping version only accept integer number as -w argument

2021-07-21 Thread Pedro Guimarães
Hi,

We've run a test with -proposed version and our tests have been
successful.

Test scenario:
Run Rally test "VMTasks.boot_runcommand_delete" 4x times with 2x as concurrency

That fails on our current environment without the patch because some VMs are
unreachable for several minutes.
Once we've upgraded to the new package, the test successfully finished.

I am moving the tag to validation done on Focal.

[Bug 1885169] Re: Some arping version only accept integer number as -w argument

2021-07-16 Thread Pedro Guimarães
I've ran a test with both arping and iputils-arping. I can notice that
using the "arping" package, indeed it works fine, just like @hopem
commented previously. However, if we run with "iputils-arping" package,
then I see the same issue:

$ sudo arping -A -I  -c 1 -w 1.5 127.0.0.1
arping: invalid argument: '1.5'

As @nobuto mentioned, iputils-arping is the package we are interested on
and therefore, we need this fix on Neutron packages.

 *** 9.0.0-0ubuntu0.20.04.5 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-proposed/main amd64 Packages

And I can see that now notifications do not get stuck in "running"
anymore, but move to "failed" when an error happens. That fixed the bug
for me.

[Bug 1889765] Re: Notification processing failure causes notifications to get stuck

2021-06-10 Thread Pedro Guimarães
I can reproduce this issue on the following scenario:

1) Create a segment and add the node
2) Create enough VMs so Masakari will take some time on the evacuation (e.g. 30
VMs)
3) Reboot the node
4) Masakari starts the migration of the VMs
5) Node eventually comes back and nova-compute is up & running while Masakari
is still evacuating VMs

[Bug 1931381] [NEW] "No section found" for certain debs

2021-06-09 Thread João Pedro Seara
Public bug reported:

Hello,

In certain debs we get the error from reprepro "No section found" when
trying to upload it using dput.

We can reproduce it using the package from Microsoft Teams:

wget
https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/ms-teams/pool/main/t/teams/teams_1.4.00.4855_amd64.deb
changestool --create $DEB.changes adddeb teams_1.4.00.4855_amd64.deb
changestool teams_1.4.00.4855_amd64.deb.changes setdistribution bionic-personal
changestool teams_1.4.00.4855_amd64.deb.changes verify

The output of last command will be:

"ERROR: No section specified in './teams_1.4.00.4855_amd64.deb'!"

dput will still work, but then repreprod will complain of a "No section
found".

Further inspection reveals the problem is in the following line of the
generated changes file:

Files:
 fc0545d54a33154b829573ade4e5b084 21249689 - optional
teams_1.4.00.4855_amd64.deb

The workaround is to replace the "-" for "default". The following
oneliner does it:

sed -i 's/\-\ optional/default\ optional/' teams_1.4.00.4855_amd64.deb

In any case I believe that this shouldn't be the reason for changestool
or reprepro to fail.

Thanks,
JP

Greetings!

Aside from Andrew's last request, I see that a very similar issue was
discussed on LP# 1881109 [0] but, at that time, tests with a later
kernel didn't reproduce the issue.

You're running 5.4.0-71 there. Have you been able to reproduce this
using either 5.4.0-73 or 5.4.0-74 (the latter in Proposed, only)?

Thanks!

[Bug 1927729] [NEW] Cinder packages should have sysfsutils as a dependency

2021-05-07 Thread Pedro Guimarães
Public bug reported:

Running openstack Ussuri + Focal with Cinder HPE 3PAR on Fiber Channel.

When trying to attach volumes or create a volume from an image, it fails with:
https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/mwPZhYK5c4/

That is cinder API-level error, but it happens on the client side of the
communication.
It is the response of the API call made, requesting for a certain volume
operation (so far, seen this with attachment and creating from volume).

That is happening because the properties field of the request is going empty.
It means the client is not populating the API request with the properties
field, which would include the connector and an entry for "wwpns".

In the case of the create-volume-from-image
That property field is populated on:
https://github.com/openstack/cinder/blob/393c2e4ad90c05ebf28cc3a2c65811d7e1e0bc18/cinder/volume/driver.py#L878

Which in turn, calls the os_brick lib on:
https://github.com/openstack/cinder/blob/393c2e4ad90c05ebf28cc3a2c65811d7e1e0bc18/cinder/volume/volume_utils.py#L1320

This is the os_brick method:
https://github.com/openstack/os-brick/blob/1b2e2295421615847d86508dcd487ec51fa45f25/os_brick/initiator/connectors/fibre_channel.py#L60

And eventually, calls:
https://github.com/openstack/os-brick/blob/1b2e2295421615847d86508dcd487ec51fa45f25/os_brick/initiator/linuxfc.py#L162

If systool is not installed, it will fail but the
get_connector_properties handles that and returns an empty properties
field instead.

In the case of HPE 3PAR, it expects the standard os_brick linuxfc.py to
correctly call the get_fc_hbas method. Then, it sends the result as a
request to the cinder API, resulting in the KeyError message as the
response.

The linuxfc.py code in the os_brick is a generic handler of Fiber Channel
connections.
Sysfsutils is a dependency of that generic handler in os_brick.

Given this issue affects both cinder-volume and nova-compute and
standard cinder code on os_bricks uses sysfsutils, I'd recommend we set
sysfsutils as prerequisites of both python*-cinderclient and cinder-
volume packages.

WORK-AROUND:
The work-around possible so far is to have the cinder backend charm written to
install the sysfsutils.
It does not cover the issue for the nova-computes, which also need that package
to populate the properties field correctly.
Then, one workaround is to run:

$ juju run --application nova-compute "sudo apt install -y sysfsutils"
$ juju run --application cinder-volume "sudo apt install -y sysfsutils"

[Bug 1926527] Re: "Power off" dialog appears when any three keyboard keys are pressed quickly

2021-04-30 Thread Pedro
No need to reinstall after all.

In the live USB of 21.04 the bug is present as described. In the live
USB of 20.10 and 20.04, it isn't.

So, whatever it is, it's in 21.04, but not in 20.10 or 20.04. I guess
this rules out a faulty BIOS.

[Bug 1926527] Re: "Power off" dialog appears when any three keyboard keys are pressed quickly

2021-04-30 Thread Pedro
Thank you, Alex.

I just checked, and yes, I can see both "keycode 116 press/release" and
"button/power PBTN 0080 K" events.

I had 20.10 installed before 21.04, and I'd swear it didn't have this
problem. I can reinstall 20.10 and confirm this later.

Just in case it's relevant in order to confirm or discard a faulty BIOS,
I also have Windows 10 installed, and this problem isn't showing there.

Again, thank you for your help.

[Bug 1926527] Re: "Power off" dialog appears when any three keyboard keys are pressed quickly

2021-04-29 Thread Pedro
apport information

** Description changed:

Fresh 21.04 install on a fresh Asus G713QR-HG016. Gnome desktop, Spanish
  language.

I first noticed the bug while typing, but I can reduce it to this: when
three keyboard keys are pressed fast enough (and it doesn't need to be
really fast, I'm not a fast typist), the "Power off" dialog appears,
announcing that the system is shutting down automatically in 60 seconds.

It doesn't happen pressing the same key three times quickly. It doesn't
happen either keeping a key pushed. It needs to be at least two
different keys. Typing "aaa" really fast doesn't trigger the bug. Typing
  "off" or "any" does.

This happens even when there is no text field in the focus. I can
trigger it pushing keys in the desktop.

Of course, this renders the system unusable for me.
