Please ignore. I was responding to an upgrade to Nobel beta letting me
know that *dovecot -n* would be sending out confidential data. I said no.

[Bug 2048768] Re: Autopkgtest failures on amd64

2024-03-16 Thread Philippe Blain
Hello, I see
https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-13/commit/?id=6c5be2a496335c513dbe6fa85df2402cfc0f0a8b
imported the LLVM patch for Asan. There was also a similar change in
LLVM for LSan: https://github.com/llvm/llvm-
project/commit/5ffe955570a5d743bbbae204ce1b132e89fa86dc.

I was wondering if it was planned to also include that patch ?

I've experience the same kind of failure with Lsan on GCC 13:
https://github.com/phil-
blain/git/actions/runs/8281327655/job/22659588626. This is the `linux-
leaks` job in the Git CI suite which uses GCC 13.1.0 from the ubuntu-
toolchain-r/test PPA.

Side question: will the PPA also be updated with the Asan patch?

Thanks!

[Bug 1939347] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze since kernel 5.11

2022-05-16 Thread Philippe Lawrence
I tried both option in grub. It works! 16 hours without freezing. Thank you
very much.
I also tried ubuntu 22.04 on usb stick and it freezes.
So, should I install 22.04 with the workaround ?
I think it is a problem with intel cpu. Complete ref is :
 Description: "Intel HD Graphics"
Manufacturer: Intel(R) Corporation
Version: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8650U CPU @ 1.90GHz
"Intel Corp."

[Bug 1971097] Re: Cannot switch between light/dark theme in the GNOME session

2022-05-02 Thread Lepaffe Philippe
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected jammy wayland-session

** Description changed:

In the Ubuntu session, gnome-control-center has an "Appearance" section
which allows to switch from Light and Dark themes (which will apply to
GTK4 apps as well as set the preference for GTK3 apps), but that section
doesn't exist in the control center in the GNOME session.

This means that while you can still choose alternate themes using GNOME
Tweaks, they won't properly apply the chosen variant, and by default
setting a dark theme will apply that theme's light variant to GTK3 apps
while also not switching GTK4 apps to the dark variant of libadwaita.

You can set the which variant with the command line ("gsettings set
  org.gnome.desktop.interface color-scheme prefer-dark"), but you cannot
do this within the UI from the GNOME session like you can from the
  Ubuntu session.

- My understanding is that this stems from the gnome-control-center being
- in its 41.4 version, with the light/dark switch backported in for the
- Ubuntu session but not the GNOME session. That in my opinion doesn't
- make for a great user experience in the GNOME session.

[Bug 1939347] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze since kernel 5.11

2022-04-23 Thread Philippe Lawrence
Hello everyone,
I tested the core linux-image-unsigned-5.17.2-051702-generic and it still
freezes randomly.

I'm stuck with the kernel 5.8.0.63.71 which does not have this freeze
bug...

Has anybody some idea how we can move this ticket forward ?

Cheers,

Philippe.

[Bug 1965562] [NEW] Bad password when unlocking disk (cryptsetup failed)

2022-03-18 Thread philippe christin
Public bug reported:

I have done a  new installation of Ubuntu 20.04.3-desktop-amd64 with LVM
encryption enabled (from live USB, then install UBUNTU). The process finished
without any problem, but when the PC reboots, I enter my password but I cannot
unlock the disk.
I got the error : "Please unlock disk sdb3_crypt. Cryptsetup: ERROR:sdb3_crypt:
cryptsetup failed, bad password or options ?"

My password has special char "/".

If I redo the full process with a password without this special char "/", there
is no error.

[Bug 1953560] [NEW] icingaweb2-module-director.service: Failed to determine user credentials: No such process

2021-12-07 Thread Philippe Clérié
Public bug reported:

release: 21.10
version: 1.8.1-1

The systemd service that start the appropriate daemon fails with the
above message. I found the following discrepancies in the package:

- The systemd user defined for this process, *icingadirector*, does not exist.
- The user defined in the package is *_director*.
- Either user should be in group *icingaweb2* to read the configuration
directory.

Work around:

- Change user in systemd unit icingaweb2-module-director.service to *_director*.
- Add user *_director* to group *icingaweb2*.

[Bug 1951879] [NEW] System freezes

2021-11-22 Thread Philippe Comte
Public bug reported:

The problem can be reproduced as follow in ubuntu 21.10:
- run jedit (which was insalled with sudo apt install jedit)
- jedit starts and is working fine, but a right click on its icon in the dock
freezes the system
- it is still possible to log into the system using ssh and I noticed that
gnome-shell is using 100% of a CPU.
- the system does not recover without shutting it down and restarting it
- the problem could be reproduced on a lenovo laptop as well as in a VM

[Bug 1823490] Re: Incron causes defunct processes

2021-09-01 Thread Philippe Cloutier
This is probably solved in all supported releases, as bionic uses
0.5.10-3build1, and 0.5.10 is apparently not affected.

That being said, I am experiencing a similar bug with bionic in a Docker
container, where incrond itself becomes a zombie process (and therefore
stops working).

Assuming this is about Debian #930526, this is reportedly fixed in
0.5.12-2, and therefore in all releases except bionic.

[Bug 1942243] [NEW] docker.io name is not discoverable (obsolete)

2021-08-31 Thread Philippe Cloutier
Public bug reported:

This package uses the name "docker.io", which apparently refers to docker-io,
an obsolete executable it previously contained:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45023363/what-is-docker-io-in-relation-to-docker-ce-and-docker-ee
Docker - whatever that means - is a mysterious thing and I don't know what
exactly this package contains nor what would be an optimal name, but for sure
the current name should be changed.

[Bug 1909814] Re: Keyboard not working

2021-07-15 Thread Philippe Schottey
Hi all the patch appears to be available!
It is at least present in 5.10.50.

For those on ubuntu 20.04. You can download the kernel here:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.10.50/

Make sure to disable secure boot though because the kernel is not
signed.

[Bug 1813662] Re: Cannot build VM

2021-06-01 Thread Philippe Ombredanne
I created this set of instructions in
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nexB/extractcode/main/README.rst

I would appreciate if someone could minimally validate if this is the
correct way:

Adding support for VM images extraction
---

Adding support for VM images requires the manual installation of the
libguestfs-tools system package. This is suported only on Linux.
On Debian and Ubuntu you can use this command::

sudo apt-get install libguestfs-tools

On Ubuntu only, an additional manual step is required as the kernel executable
file cannot be read by users as required by libguestfish.

Run this command as a temporary and immediate fix::

sudo chmod 0644 /boot/vmlinuz-*
for k in /boot/vmlinuz-*
do sudo dpkg-statoverride --add --update root root 0644 /boot/vmlinuz-$k
done

You likely want both this temporary fix and a more permanent fix; otherwise each
kernel update will revert to the default permissions and ExtractCode will stop
working for VM images extraction.

Therefore follow these instructions:

1. As sudo, create the file /etc/kernel/postinst.d/statoverride with this
content, devised by Kees Cook (@kees) in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/759725/comments/3 ::

#!/bin/sh
version="$1"
# passing the kernel version is required
[ -z "${version}" ] && exit 0
dpkg-statoverride --update --add root root 0644 /boot/vmlinuz-${version}

2. Set executable permissions::

sudo chmod +x /etc/kernel/postinst.d/statoverride

>"""

I would like to create a package that fix this issue.

Is this the correct way:

1. As sudo, create the file /etc/kernel/postinst.d/statoverride with this
content, devised by Kees Cook (@kees) in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/759725/comments/3 ::

#!/bin/sh
version="$1"
# passing the kernel version is required
[ -z "${version}" ] && exit 0
dpkg-statoverride --update --add root root 0644 /boot/vmlinuz-${version}

2. Setup the exxecutable permissions::

sudo chmod +x /etc/kernel/postinst.d/statoverride

And if yes, is this enough to create a package that adds this file?

[Bug 1813662] Re: Cannot build VM

2021-04-06 Thread Philippe Ombredanne
Hiya, I was kindly wondering if there is an update on this?
I have naive suggestion:

what about creating a small optional package that has the dpkg-
statoverride script and let users be responsible to install it or not
install it?

That way, Ubuntu kernel maintainers wishes are respected, and users can
have it their way too.

And everyone may be satisfied this way?

Also happens with canary chrome!
Maybe some common lib?

I have the same issue with a recently bought medion laptop.
Function keys like sound and backlight work.
However typing does not work.

Somebody has an update on this issue?

[Bug 1918619] Re: Kind of slowly refresh

2021-03-11 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Actually there is more, as it's shown on this other video. The same
problem happens when “there is a display event”…? Like when my mouse go
over an element, even if I can't click on it.

** Attachment added: "VID_20210311_105952.mp4"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1918619/+attachment/5475721/+files/VID_20210311_105952.mp4

** Description changed:

I use to press Alt+Tab to switch between windows (or frames, whatever)
and I noticed today that when I switch to another window the up bar
  blinks.

I already had a display problem once, so I knew it was better with a
  external video.
+
+ EDIT: I remember having this problem a year ago perhaps, and it
+ disappear if I reboot my computer.

[Bug 1843500] Re: freeipa-client not receiving kerberos ticket for NFS home directories

2021-02-24 Thread Philippe Clérié
Please close.

I can't reliably reproduce this bug nor can I find what's cause it. And
it does not seem to be a problem for anyone. So we might as well close
it.

[Bug 1837156] Re: Quietly "saves" invalid event (incidence) start or end times as midnight (particularly affects fr_CA (French Canadian) sub-locale)

2021-02-13 Thread Philippe Cloutier
** Description changed:

After switching from Debian 9 to Kubuntu 19.04 (KOrganizer 5.10.3), I
noticed that event edition had broken with regards to times. No matter
what start and end times would be entered, saving would store these as
midnight. This would also affect existing events; editing these would
corrupt times, even if these are left untouched.

After investigation, this turned out to be a complicated issue.
Ultimately, this symptom comes from 3 underlying issues. The first
element explains why the regression happened at this moment: Qt Core's
QLocale changed its short time format for the fr_CA sub-locale from
version 29 to 32, from the earlier "23:59" to "23 h 59". This change may
be undesirable and while there may be no ticket asking for reversion, I
  am on it: https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/CLDR-8503

The second element is that the widget used to input start and end times,
KTimeComboBox, is very fragile with regards to time formats. It works
with the most common, but fails with some which were less tested, like
- "23 h 59". With such a format, in invalid input mask is generated, and
+ "23 h 59". With such a format, an invalid input mask is generated, and
instead of producing a "__ h __" field, the input is initialized to "__
_ __", as reported in KDE ticket #409867:
  https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409867

Due to issue #409867, when the users wants to enter, say, 23:45,
incidenceeditor will get back an invalid time string which - if I
understand correctly - would be in this example "2345". It is obviously
impossible for incidenceeditor to do the right thing, but the third
issue is that incidenceeditor does not properly handle this situation.
Rather than reporting failure, it quietly "saves" a corrupted time, as
  reported in KDE ticket #409912:
  https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409912

In the end, none of these issues is in the korganizer package, so this
ticket does not request a change to korganizer itself. Its only role is
to prevent other users from wasting a huge amount of time debugging. If
Launchpad allows assigning a ticket to a certain package while still
finding that ticket in lookups for another package, feel free to
reassign this to incidenceeditor and mark it as affecting korganizer.
Otherwise, this ticket can be closed or its severity decreased once
Ubuntu's latest release has one of the causing issues solved.

[Bug 1913273] Re: System crash randomly

2021-02-06 Thread Philippe Dosch
One week after deleting Atempo from my laptop, my linux is still up: no
new freeze, all is fine. Meanwhile, the linux-modules-5.4.0-65 has been
installed (I've tested it before deleting Atempo, and freezes were still
here). It appears that Atempo (and the underlying redirfs module if I
understand) could be the culprit. I'm going now to reinstall it te be
sure: if my freezes come back, it will be a sign (without being a formal
proof). I think the next step will be the opening of a bug report with
Atempo company (ideally with details). Any ideas about the way I could
investigate more deeply about all of that?

[Bug 1910938] Re: Text is missing from shell panel and menus

2021-02-03 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Good to know, thanks. I'll do that if it happens again, or for any other
bug actually.

I don't see any 'Extensions' app (and I don't remember installing any
extension) but i can execute 'gnome-extensions list' (same result without
'--enabled' option):
me@myComputer:~$ gnome-extensions list --enabled
desktop-icons@csoriano
ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com
ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com

Do I have to do something once they are disabled?

[Bug 1913273] Re: System crash randomly

2021-01-26 Thread Philippe Dosch
It appears that this module is used by Atempo Live Navigator, the
product supplied by my lab to backup on the fly my data. I have to lead
the test you propose within a period where I don't use too intensively
my laptop. I'm going to try to give the result in a couple days.

[Bug 1913273] Re: System crash randomly

2021-01-26 Thread Philippe Dosch
After rereading my post, I precise that the mentioned crashes are
freezes: they happened randomly, sometimes when I was away from my
computer, sometimes when I'm using it. When they happen, all is frozen,
nothing responds, and I have to push during 10 s my laptop power button
to switch it off and then reboot.

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1910938] [NEW] Ubuntu don't show text anymore

2021-01-10 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Public bug reported:

Hello [happy new year :) ! ]

Text information in the Ubuntu dialogs aren't displayed, or some times just a
part of it.
I don't see the hours, but i see the icons like Firefox actually opened, my
battery etc. and notifications are empty (just the "!" icon).
Text normally displayed when mouse-hover the applications icons is not
displayed, when Ubuntu ask for my password the frame display only 3 or 4
characters, when i put the computer in standby and reopen it doesn't change
anything, and the bullets of my password aren't displayed when i login.
The text normally displayed on the menus aren't displayed too, same for the
application menu (when hitting the bottom left corner button) and icons of
applications (like Discord options on the top right of the screen).
The only text from xorg that is displayed (if it's from xorg…) is the window's
title (like "#Room - Discord" for Discord application, or "me@computer: ~/"
above the terminal).
What is left works : Firefox can display text, and text is displayed in
settings for example.

P.S: a reboot solved the problem.

[Bug 1904457] [NEW] Wacon INTUOS 4 on several displays

2020-11-16 Thread Philippe Lucidarme
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04
Tablet Wacom INTUOS 4

I'm using a Wacom INTUOS 4 tablet with three displays. When I go into
the Ubuntu settings > Wacom tablet > tablet, I can associate the tablet
to a single display. There are several problems :

- The changes are not effective after selecting a single display. You need to
reboot the PC to get the changes.
- Once the tablet is associated to a single display, the settings fall back in
the initial configuration. I don't know exactly what make the settings reset,
but probably if the tablet is plugged off, or if the PC is started while the
tablet is not plugged in.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1888942]

2020-11-10 Thread Philippe-gras
Hello,

The automatic copy into the primary selection has been preventing
pasting url with a middle-click in the address bar for many years and it
is wonderful that is has been fixed.

For me, the current behaviour is the correct one and I would be sad if
the change is reverted.

Nevertheless, I believe CTRL-A should copy the url to the primary
selection in order to be consistent with its behaviour on web pages and
with the behaviour of the shift-arrow selection.

If some users are confused by text highlighted as selected but not
copied into the primary selection, then using a different look in such a
case, like text in grey, would avoid any confusion.

Cheers,
Philippe.
