[ubuntu-in] Recovering data from a formatted HDD
Hi All, Yesterday I formatted my HDD accidentally . I had win xp and Mint installed. The issue is now my HDD is raw. I have some docs and photos which I really want back. Is their any tool which I can use with any live CD of Ubuntu to recover my data and partitions. Please help me. As others mentioned Testdisk/Photorec are great. Problem with Photorec is that it will rename the recovered files. Also, there will be huge number of files, try to filter the recovery files by file type, which can save time digging into. I recovered 65000 files from 4GB ubuntu hdd image, so you can imagine the number of files from normal HDD. Testdisk -- Scan and repair partitions Photorec -- recover lost files from partitions Also try Foremost, which is also a very good tool.
