[Bug 638238] [NEW] samba failed to install and crashes on login - package samba-common 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error e
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba Initial problem was my cifs fstab mounts all of the sudden stopped working immediately on bootup; Exit with error 32 on mountall. Was working fine until today. They still mount, eventually, but slow down my login to gnome by an appreciable amount. Contents of my fstab: [code] # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier # for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name # devices that works even if disks are added and removed. This might also be of interest; dpkg.log.debug shows when the update- manager first tried to install the samba package updates, when I manually installed another package (x-screensaver) and when it failed again and crashed. The other is my boot.log... Interestingly it is complaining of my .smbcredentials file, so I will check into that and see if that's the reason my mounts fail initially and/or the samba packages failed. ** Attachment added: boot.log.debug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/638238/+attachment/1584038/+files/boot.log.debug -- samba failed to install and crashes on login - package samba-common 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638238 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Tried a full purge of the guilty packages, followed a suggestion I found online (removed /usr/share/samba/smb.conf), reinstalled, no error on installation of latest releases. [Bug 638238] Re: Error mounting CIFS shares
Hi Thierry, Thank you for the quick response. I checked for cifs-utils and could not find it as a valid package for my distro (Lucid 10.04). I did a quick man mount-cifs, first line of description says: This tool is part of the samba(7) suite. So I ran a quick dpkg --get-selections: dpkg --get-selections | grep samba libsamba-hostconfig-dev install libsamba-hostconfig0install libsamba-util-dev install samba install samba-commoninstall samba-common-bininstall So it looks like I have all the samba-related packages installed.
