[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312707] Re: chips driver not loaded for 69030 chipset

2009-12-11 Thread Timo Aaltonen
This should be fixed in Lucid alpha1, which has version 1.2.2 of the
driver. Particularly this change should have fixed it:

author Matthieu Herrb matthieu.he...@laas.fr 2009-07-19 08:37:37 (GMT)
committer Matthieu Herrb matthieu.he...@laas.fr 2009-07-19 08:39:28
(GMT)
commit 722267e99012d0b8bbd7f22eaeac99e85bf48e0c

Fix PCI card probe and chipset detection.

it appears that the chipstechnologies X driver was partially broken during
libpciaccess conversion. Thanks to the analysis by Marien Swart in bug #18122
and a similar fix by Mark Kettenis for the radeon driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487185] Re: [g45] On Intel G45 unable to read EDID block in Dmesg after move from G35 to G45

2009-12-11 Thread lmp
I have same situation, bu unfortunately I have problems too.
I have port replicator with connected external monitor.
So this monitor is not detected or just disappears on some random bases. After
a while it can be detected again.
Display preferences, Detect monitor - nothing happens (i.e. changes).
Reboot typically helps.
I have Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook.

As from logs, I didn't find anything not listed here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 438346] Re: [i915gm] [jaunty, karmic] X freezes every day or so

2009-12-11 Thread pakore
I can confirm this bug, also happening in a Acer TravelMate 5730.
Freezes happen after being suspended, within 0-6 hours after resuming
it. If I don't suspend, the machine runs smoothly.

Also for suspending it I have to do it twice. The first time never
suspends, I just get the Screensaver. Then I try to suspend again and it
works. Maybe is related? Hibernate does not work, I just get the
screensaver everytime.

I'm using Ubuntu Karmic with compiz enabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451974] Re: Black video minimizing Totem window

2009-12-11 Thread Luca Ferretti
Yes, it still persists with 9.10 updated yesterday to latest available.

An additional (maybe unuseful) note: the no-video occurs on AVi files on
first minimizing action (i.e. minimize - restore - black video),
instead on second action with OGV files (i.e. minimize - restore -
video - minimize - restore - black video).

2009-12-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gdm

In Lucid Alpha 1 testing.

Steps to reproduce:

 * Log in with the default user
 * Without closing the session, go to the Guest Session
 * Without closing the Guest Session, go to Switch User (the default user would
appear as logged in) and select the default user
 * Without closing the session, again, go to Guest Session
 * Without closing the Guest Session, again, go to Switch User (the default
user would appear as logged in) and select the default user. GDM crashes.

Apport (although I enabled it) didn't catch the crash. I will attach
dmesg and syslog.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495441] [NEW] [lucid] xorg crashes on switch to VT

2009-12-11 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I switch to a VT, I instantly see a spinner, gdm displaying the
login screen. My old session is gone. Xorg.0.log.old indicates an X
crash

It should also be noted that every few seconds the (LCD) screen flickers
and the mouse returns to the center of the screen. Looks like some sort
of reset, nothing in the logs though.

Hi kphillisjr,

Thanks for including the attached files. Could you also include your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.0.log.old) from after reproducing the issue?

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` too.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494627] Re: nv driver crashing with segmentation fault in libpthread.so.0

2009-12-11 Thread caillean
I changed the driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which exists because the install of
the nvidia-driver created it.
Instead of Driver Nvidia i wrote Driver vesa and it worked for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451974] Re: Black video minimizing Totem window

2009-12-11 Thread malev
Luca,
Sorry to bother you again. Can you tell me if the problem persist with other
video player. Like VLC or Mplayer, or anyone that you like. Because this will
indicate us if the problem is from the codecs or the video player (with compiz
ofcourse).
Again, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451974] Re: Black video minimizing Totem window

2009-12-11 Thread Luca Ferretti
Fine, here are some results. It seems the issue is related to XVideo
extension and Compiz.

Window Manager Compiz

  - Totem[1] (using ximagesink) - no issue
  - Totem (using xvimagesink or autovideosink) - issue
  - Totem (using xvimagesink device=0[2]) - issue
  - VLC (XV output in prefs) - issue
  - VLC (X11 output in prefs) - no issue
  - VLC (ascii art output) - no issue
  - mplayer -vo gl|gl2|x11 - no issue
  - mplayer -vo xv - issue (BTW it's the default one when no -vo is provided)

Window Manager Metacity

All applications work fine with any video output.

I could perfom more tests using free Ati driver, but I can't enable
Compiz with them, so I suppose it's not useful.

[1] and/or the test provided by gstreamer-properties

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495627] [NEW] Dell E6500 unable to use native resolution (monitor doesn't support reduced blanking)

2009-12-11 Thread Randy Barlow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I sincerely apologize if this is a duplicate. I didn't see any bug
reports that directly dealt with the monitor doesn't support reduced
blanking problem on my specific Intel chipset. I tried the nomodeline
kernel boot parameter trick, as I found in another bug report, and I
still was unable to use my laptop's native resolution (1920x1200). I
noticed in the Xorg log that the reduced blanking message appeared next
to the mode I would like to use, which is why I think this may be the
most relevant clue to the problem.

This is a brand new laptop, and I haven't really got a lot invested in
it yet, so I'm currently attempting a dist-upgrade to Lucid to see if
the newer kernel, etc. will solve my problem or not. It would be good to
know if this problem has already been fixed, for the purposes of
assigning importance to this report.

I'd be happy to provide any additional information I can!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495253] Re: Failsafe mode uses Ubuntu specific branding unnecessarily

2009-12-11 Thread Twisted Lincoln, Inc.
[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I'm not sure how any of those logs have any relevance to this issue.
The concern isn't how failsafe mode comes to be started, but instead
what is displayed once it is.

Nonetheless, I've attempted to comply... however intentionally invoking
the failsafe mode is rather difficult, especially on Karmic... I will
reinstall Jaunty, and try to post a screenshot with the exact dialogs in
question, if that will help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495627] Re: Dell E6500 unable to use native resolution (monitor doesn't support reduced blanking)

2009-12-11 Thread Randy Barlow
Short story:
So I'm an idiot. We can close this ticket. It turns out that my laptop's
native resolution is 1280x800.

Longer story:
I had assumed I had the higher resolution, because this is a company issued
laptop, and we ordered several of the same device. My coworkers all use
Windows, and I'm the loner Ubuntu guy. We just got these, and I found out that
one of my coworker's machines was running at 1920x1200. It turns out that Dell
must have shipped us different displays on our machines, so I will take it up
with them.

Sorry for the noise!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495253] Re: Failsafe mode uses Ubuntu specific branding unnecessarily

This was taken from a fresh Ubuntu 9.04 install, having invoked the
failsafe mode using the xorg.conf file previously attached. The exact
same dialog occurs in Nexradix 1.16 (which is directly based on Ubuntu

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495253] Re: Failsafe mode uses Ubuntu specific branding unnecessarily

2009-12-11 Thread Twisted Lincoln, Inc.
Sadly, I can't seem to force the failsafe mode in 9.10 in order to post
screenshots from it. I tried using the same xorg.conf file, but all I
get is a quickly flickering console login prompt, no failsafe menu. I'm
not sure if this is because I am running within VirtualBox or not.

I don't have time right now to do a fresh install on a real machine, but
if needed, I can do so if someone can give me a better way to force the
failsafe mode to come up.

Hi, It's me again. I have some bad news.
I've asked about you're bug at the bugsquad and the ubuntu-x channel. They tell
me that the problem might be the ATI's driver. The exacly words were fglrx is
buggy with respect to having compositing and xvideo at the same time.
So I recomend you try again the free X drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495693] [NEW] X server looses keyboard input after switching to virtual console

2009-12-11 Thread st_
Public bug reported:

Environment:

1. kubuntu
2. kdm

Steps to reproduce:

1. Boot PC
2. Get KDM login prompt
3. press CTRL+ALT+1 to switch to 1st virtual console
4. press CTRL+ALT+7 to switch back to KDM
5. select password/username field with mouse
6. try to type password/username

Expected result:

1. password or username is typped

Actual result:

1. no reaction for keyboard input, unable to input password/username;
CTRL+ALT+1, CTRL+ALT+DEL don't work, any key doesn't work.
2. the only thing helps is ATL+SysRq+R - then able to switch to virtual console
and restart KDM, after KDM restart no wrong behaviour is seen.

The same proble also occurs after login to KDE on __first__ switch to
virtual console, restart of KDM helps.

2009-12-11 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in xorg.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 380247]

2009-12-11 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 380247

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

I am going to mark this as confirmed because you attached the
appropriate screenshot documenting the non-generic language of the
failsafe process. I am only a volunteer and I am new to triaging so my
actions may be a mistake. If so then the status may be adjusted
accordingly and additional documentation may be required.

GREAT NEWS!!
I finally (very sorry it took this long) managed to get back to this and
re-install Xubuntu 9.10 --- it worked beautifully right out of the box and is
able to use my 1260x1024 throughout the boot as well as after the install. This
is really beautiful!!
Thanks very much for fixing it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 464525] Re: fglrx causes kernel panic on karmic final amd64

2009-12-11 Thread Gilberto Gaudêncio
I've got a fully updated 64-bit Karmic on a Toshiba Satellite A300-1ID, and I'm
still seeing a kernel panic at bootup when attempting to use the fglrx driver.
The proprietary driver used to work on Jaunty 64-bit.
I'd rather use the free driver, but it lacks proper power management, raising
the laptop's average temperature from 38ºC to 50ºC and cutting on the battery
time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495733] [NEW] xterm title won't change with kde (xttitle, xtermset, xtermcontrol all broken)

2009-12-11 Thread David Sharnoff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xterm

Was this broken by bug #311983?

Running ubuntu 9.10, Karmic, xterm titles won't change with the normal
escape sequences under KDE. They will change under gnome.

The utility programs to manipulate the title (xttitle, xtermset,
xtermcontrol) are all broken.

Setting titles is important. Ask anyone who uses screen a lot.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 311983] Re: Window title, DECRQSS security

2009-12-11 Thread Thomas Dickey
On Sat, 12 Dec 2009, David Sharnoff wrote:

There is a resource setting that can disable it - perhaps someone set
that. (which version of xterm are we discussing?)

break this important feature? The screen program is one example of an
application where changing the title critical.

Title changes still work with gnome. Only broken with kde. Karmic.

I suppose it's possible that xrdb has different data in gnome/kde.
(It's simple enough to check - look at the control-right-mouse entry
for Enable Title Ops, which must be enabled to allow this feature).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495252] Re: Login with GNOME or Failsafe GNOME session goes black then back to login screen

2009-12-11 Thread Ross Berteig
Interesting. A brand new user account gets a working session.

I created a new user, and tried logging in to the default GNOME session.
This gave me the default desktop, panels and menus. At this point, I can
see that even a successful login produces a fair number of error
messages in the .xsession_errors file. In particular, the message that
had seemed suspicious to me initially about an assertion failure in
gnome-settings-daemon is still there.

However, later messages in the failed session such as Connection reset
by peer and Resource temporarily unavailable referring to the X
server do not appear in the successful session.

I would like to figure out what significant difference there is between
the old and new accounts that causes the session to fail, both so I can
repair my original account, and so that whatever bug caused the settings
to be broken in the update can be repaired.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495735] [NEW] Screen flickering during CPU and/or disk activity

2009-12-11 Thread Colin Kern
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

I've installed 9.10 64-bit on an Averatec 2260-EK1 laptop, which has a
VIA KM800 graphics chip. I believe that it is using the openchrome
driver (which I can't verify since there is no xorg.conf anymore).
Resolution is set to 1280x800 so I know it isn't dropping back to the
vesa driver as it did when I tried using Ubuntu on this laptop a couple
years ago.

The problem is that the screen occassionally flickers, which is very
annoying. What seems to be happening is the video buffer is being drawn
onto the screen in the wrong position, since in the flickering I will
see things such as pieces of a window I have open appearing elsewhere on
the screen, etc. Sometimes the machine will go a few minutes without
this flickering occurring, and other times it will happen a lot. From
what I've experienced, I think the problem is happening more when the
computer is more busy. I haven't been able to isolate whether it's CPU
or disk activity that's the culprit.

Please let me know if you need any more information to track down this
bug.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 311983] Re: Window title, DECRQSS security

2009-12-11 Thread Paul Szabo
xterm can't change it's title any more. ...
... look at the control-right-mouse entry for Enable Title Ops ...

Testing my own karmic machine: the xterm default Allow Title Ops is
ticked, Allow Window Ops is not ticked. Apparently regardless of
setting, using
  perl -e 'print \e\]0;;bad-command;\a\e\[21t'
does not set the title; but with Allow Window Ops ticked, it echoes
the bad command into the input buffer.

Cheers, Paul

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 186103] Re: [K8M800] Panel on K8M800 is not supported (Averatec 3280)

2009-12-11 Thread Peter Belew
Starting with yesterday's Lucid alpha-1 release, there has been both
improvement and then regression regarding the driver for this hardware.
See bug #495553 Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps.

The driver is setting the right screen resolution, but the left and
right halves of the screen are swapped. See the above bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462349] Re: Mono WinForms apps don't show text on menus and button

2009-12-11 Thread garyo
I removed the launchpad ppa from /etc/apt/sources.list.d, and then did:
 sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel=2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2

to reinstall the latest standard karmic driver. There's probably a
better way to revert all of them (ati, nv, etc.) but intel's the only
one my laptop needs :-).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495337] Re: Missing drivers from mesa package.

2009-12-11 Thread Ken Phillis Jr
The only hint that there was missing files was in the xorg log on my
system... It has a radeon RS780 video chipset. However, to reproduce the
error i will need to remove the mesa3d package that was installed from
ubuntu source. I have attached the xorg.0.log which has the error
fixed... which prints this message confirming the use of the module...

(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so
