[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 475429] Re: [i945] Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller Freezes when compiz enabled

2010-01-31 Thread takashi torigoe
I have uploaded an older version of mesa to my old PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~gomyhr/+archive/old/+packages . By testing this,
we can find out if this is caused by a bug in mesa which is introduced
after version 7.5.

Geir, I tested the older mesa package, but I got freeze.
As a result, there are no change with older mesa.

Hi Zyxmon,
I think you may want to try the lenovo_acpi.c module. Your DSDT.dsl
file has the ATPX method, like the Lenovo W500 and Lenovo TP-6F
bioses.

See this blogpost for more details:

Then I went into the system preferences appearance visual effects

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418703] Re: Busy mouse cursor flickers like mad

2010-01-31 Thread zasq
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 380017 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/380017

Hello,
I think I have the same bug, even though it should already be fixed. Maybe a
regression? I'm running karmic (updated from jaunty) on a dell inspiron 1501,
kernel 2.6.31-17-generic, fully updated. The cursor flickers heavily when the
system is busy - not mattering which image the cursors has (text, arrow,
spinning wheel). I first thought it is because I installed unclutter, but I
have added the -noevents flag and it still happens. If I should open a new bug,
please let me know. But I have the impression it's the same bug as this one.
I am attaching the output of lspci -vvnn and the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
Regards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514336] Re: Key presses repeat when key is held down does not work

2010-01-31 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
When starting only with xterm instead of gnome, `xset q` has the lines
Keyboard Control:
auto repeat: onkey click percent: 0LED mask:
After running `gnome-session` which starts gnome, it is changed to:
Keyboard Control:
auto repeat: offkey click percent: 0LED mask:
This remains after I choose Log out to return to the single xterm.

I have downgraded gnome-session from 2.29.6-0ubuntu1 to 2.28.0-0ubuntu8
without any change. I'm still assigning to gnome-session, since that is
at least closer to the right package than xorg-server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512192] Re: Can't configure Elan tech touchpad on Dell Inspiron 11z, Asus K7I0C and maybe also Dell Mini 10 (not V), ASUS k40in, Asus U81A and ASUS UL80-VT.

2010-01-31 Thread linuxonbute
I have the elantech touchpad on my zepto znote 3215W. Kernel 2.6.31-17-generic
the bug I reported in was assigned but is no longer so i don't know what is
going to happen about it.

It was completely unusable and could not be configured. It is still not working
fully.
I can now disable tapping but it seems there are at least 2 problems:
1/
There seems to be some interaction between psmouse and the keyboard - with
psmouse loaded then there seems to be a huge amount of key bounce as I type so
that it repeats many times like i for one or more
keys during typing a word. This is so in a terminal window, with gedit or
openoffice writer and so on.
If I rmmod psmouse ( I am using a usb mouse and only load psmouse when testing
) the bounce goes away

2/
If I try to move the mouse pointer from the bottom to the top of the screen or
vice versa then I have to stroke the touchpad several times - which is normal i
know. Problem is that sometimes I might stroke it once from bottom to top, the
pointer moves about 1/3 to 1/2 way up, then I put my finger at the bottom to
stroke it again and the pointer jumps back down to the bottom of the screen as
soon as my finger touches the pad. This sometimes means I have to stroke it as
many as 10 or even 12 times before it gets where I want.
Then it might work normally for several minutes before it starts messing about
again.
Not sure exactly what the issue is but I have tried other live distros such as
mandriva and Suse and the problem is the same. I do wonder if it is a fault
with my touchpad but it has been like this from day one when I was running
Ubuntu 8.04. ( I bought the machine with no O/S )

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-01-31 Thread Brian Rogers
I found another way to freeze the system. For me, the following command
will usually trigger a freeze before it completes:

x11perf -range copywinpix10,comppixwin500 -time 1 -repeat 1

I'd like to find out if that freeze is connected to this one. If it is,
then we have a good, reproducible test case. So along with reporting
whether a version freezes during regular use, I'm also interested
whether the above x11perf command causes freezes. Also, since there are
multiple revisions of the i845, it's good to report what version you
have with this command:

lspci | grep VGA

Mine looks like this:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation
82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2010-01-31 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- This is a hardware specific bug , not a papercut
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

probably the fact that it only affects people with multitouch-capable
touchpads made it hardware specific, but it's a lot of people
nevertheless (a lot of netbooks and all macbooks have multitouch touchpads)

2010-01-31 Thread Gitty K
I have just run this command twice and it didn't seem to cause any
freezes, but it did log me off eventually and I had to log in again--
maybe that's how it's supposed to be?

I am not running the latest version of the ppa (2.8.1-1), but the
previous one. (I didn't even test it. I wouldn't now how to revert it if
it crashes already during start up. So after the first reports on the
crashes, I decided not to install it.)

2010-01-31 Thread robbielink
Oh, THAT was interesting. Not sure what was supposed to be happening.
Didn't freeze though the graphic window it opened stayed in the
foreground, couldn't move it or bring any other window to foreground,
system was still responsive though VERY slow. Graphics got more complex
with each cycle - maybe be more helpful to tell what it does.

Eventually it logged me out very quickly, I was able to log back in to a normal
session no problem.
Looks like I have the same version as Brian:

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi I have this problem, I have an asus F3jp with Ati Radeon Mobility x1700.
I install ubuntu 9.04, but I can't install catalyst 9.3 cause xorg1.6 work only
with catalyst 9.4.

Catalyst 9.4 is only for now HD video card and so don't support my video
card.

There isn't problem with GUI or Compiz with Radeon or RadeonHD open drive, but
both drive don't have powerset! so my video card work full power always!
This make my battery life short and make my laptop very noisy cause full speed
fan and very very very HOT!

Anybody know how set the power of my video card low? I don't need all
video card power. For youtube and some film i think minimum power is
enought!

Release: karmic (squeeze/sid).

lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400]
(rev b2)

On restart after upgrading from 9.04 (where card worked with 3D
acceleration) to 9.10, X failed to start. Was forced to log in from
command line. X started, but low resolution was forced.

Used Restricted Driver manager to enable nVidia driver (nvidia-glx-96
was only choice) and attempted shut down and reboot. There was no
improvement.

Installed nVidia glx-180 driver (sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180).

On reboot, was able to get generally normal graphics and resolution,
except that there was no 3D acceleration and Compiz would not function.
Attempted to use Restricted Driver manager again. The only choice was
the 96 driver.

On shut down and reboot, the problem recurred.

Reinstalled nVidia-glx-180. Currently have usable screen, but no 3D
acceleration or advanced desktop effects. Have not attempted nVidia-
glx-173 or nVidia-glx-71.

Attempting to use NVIDIA X Server Settings app reports that it does not
appear that NVIDIA X driver is installed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486837] Re: Freezes with nvidia-glx-185 or -190 after upgrade from jaunty to karmic

2010-01-31 Thread Mossroy
This time, I reproduced the freeze on a ubuntu 9.04 liveCD.
I installed version 180.44 of the nvidia proprietary drivers, and version
10.0.42.34 of adobe proprietary flash plugin.
The computer froze again while displaying the Home movie.

One interesting thing : I never experienced such freezes when I was running
ubuntu 9.04 installed on my PC, before upgrading to 9.10.
That leads me to 2 possible assumptions :
- the problem comes from a software bug, that appeared in a recent version of
nvidia drivers, or in a recent version of flash
- the problem comes from a hardware issue, that appeared precisely when I
upgraded to ubuntu 9.10

If it's a software bug in flash plugin, this bug appeared in version
10.0.32.18. Because I was certainly using the previous one (10.0.22.87) when I
was using ubuntu 9.04. Cf
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/multiverse/f/flashplugin-nonfree/flashplugin-nonfree_10.0.42.34ubuntu0.9.04.1/changelog
I'm not very confident that it could be a bug in nvidia drivers, because
version 180.44 is the one I was certainly using with ubuntu 9.04. Cf
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/restricted/n/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180_180.44-0ubuntu1/changelog

I don't think it could be a hardware problem : it would be surprising
that it happens only after upgrading to 9.10, and not when using the
nvidia open-source drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486837] Re: Freezes with nvidia-glx-185 or -190 after upgrade from jaunty to karmic

2010-01-31 Thread Mossroy
I just made a test on a ubuntu 9.04 liveCD : installed nvidia drivers
version 180.44, and version 10.0.22.87 of flash plugin (through
http://pubmirrors.reflected.net/debian-multimedia/pool/main/f/flash-
player/flashplayer-mozilla_10.0.22.87-0.0_i386.deb)

The system froze after a few minutes watching Home.

I suppose it shows that the problem does not come from a bug in flash plugin
that appeared after 10.0.22.87 version...
Too bad, I was really thinking it could be it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-01-31 Thread Lorenzo De Liso
Brian Rogers, the command x11perf -range copywinpix10,comppixwin500 -time 1
-repeat 1 will freeze X, as shadetree as said. But it can freeze X in
generally, I have tried on a nvidia as video card and there's also the problem:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7500 LE]
(rev a1)
I think it's a generally problem of X.

robbielink, yes, it's a X's bug as shadatree and I said.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318325] Re: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram

2010-01-31 Thread don.bor...@web.de
Success, for my FireGL T2 on IBM T41p with Karmic I did the following
steps:

1. Install pm-utils 1.2.6.1-2 from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/pm-utils/1.2.6.1-2
2. Modify /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98smart-kernel-video,
comment the funtion-call remove_all_video_quirks in the section
bhave_kms()/b

As result this section looks like

have_kms()
{
# if we are running with a KMS-enabled video driver, we should not
# attempt to run any quirks
grep -q -E '(noveau|drm)fb' /proc/fb || return 1
# remove_all_video_quirks
add_parameters --quirk-no-chvt
}

In /etc/default/acpi-support the following parameters are set:

VBESTATE=/var/lib/acpi-support/vbestate
POST_VIDEO=true
USE_DPMS=true

P.S.:
It's possible that it runs without pm-utils 1.2.6.1-2

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 293698] Re: [RV280 9250] No signal to monitor in 8.04 unless NoDRI used

2010-01-31 Thread vito
Looks like my previous report was largely premature. After looking
deeper into issue I've found that my initial ati driver install and
configuration somehow get screwed up along with some other components
like libgl1-mesa-glx and libgl1-mesa-dri.

All at a sudden I found direct rendering reset to NO and glxgears
showing extremely low frame rate.

After re-installing everything, then running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-
xorg I have things running way faster, and I get back my direct
rendering. glxgears shows frame rate about 8 (!) times faster then
before.

I do not know yet, if the no signal problem has gone. I hope so very
much. I'll watch it.

It seems that I misunderstood the fix released message as well. I
thought I get it on my Hardy with one of the latest updates. Then I
realized that it affected Karmic only.

Again, sorry, for the premature report.

to be working OK now.
i'm changing the status to incomplete

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515371] [NEW] [Lucid] radeonhd driver does not work with a monitor section in xorg.conf

2010-01-31 Thread Ben Blout
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

The Radeon card in my machine does not detect EDID information from my
monitor, so I need to use a Monitor section in xorg.conf to set a
modeline for the monitor. When I do so, the radeonhd driver disconnects
the VGA output. (See the xorg log.) Thus I can not use the radeonhd
driver with this setup.

The radeon driver works fine with the same hardware, and the same
xorg.conf file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515371] Re: [Lucid] radeonhd driver does not work with a monitor section in xorg.conf

2010-01-31 Thread Ben Blout
The key lines in the xorg log are near the bottom, I suspect:
(II) RADEONHD(0): Output VGA_1 using monitor section Sony
(II) RADEONHD(0): Output VGA_1 has no monitor section
(II) RADEONHD(0): Output DVI-D_1 has no monitor section
(II) RADEONHD(0): EDID for output VGA_1
(II) RADEONHD(0): EDID for output DVI-D_1
(II) RADEONHD(0): Output VGA_1 disconnected
(II) RADEONHD(0): Output DVI-D_1 disconnected
(WW) RADEONHD(0): No outputs definitely connected, trying again

Then there is a bit of a backtrace at the end, of course.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515371] Re: [Lucid] radeonhd driver does not work with a monitor section in xorg.conf

2010-01-31 Thread Ben Blout
If I change one line in my xorg.conf file, so that I use the radeon
driver instead of the radeonhd driver, then X starts and runs normally.

In particular, I change
Driver radeonhd
to
Driver radeon

I am attaching the (working) xorg log that results from using the radeon
driver
