[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541722] [NEW] [i945GM] X hangs with black screen on login

2010-03-19 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Since the xorg update around 3 weeks ago, I get a permanently black
screen as soon as I log in.

The machine appears to be functioning correctly, with all the usual
applications in the session starting, but no output to the monitor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534662] Re: No hardware acceleration on ATI Radeon 3650 HD using 'radeon' driver

2010-03-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

On Lucid Lynx, after few updates I completely lost graphics hardware
acceleration. As fglrx won't work with new xorg, I use radeon driver (my
card is ATI Radeon 3650 HD). I used to have perfect 3d graphic, compiz
and games used to work smoothly, but from some time I can't use any of
them, when I lunch a game it consumes 100% cpu and lags a lot, and when
  I start compiz, it says

compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

so my guess is that the radeon driver is not providing me with 3d hardware
acceleration.
  =
I don't know if it is a significant tip, but I found out that use-count of
module 'radeon' is 0, as lsmod shows.

  Module Size Used by
  radeon738407 0
  ttm60847 1 radeon

  drm 198930 3 radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper
  i2c_algo_bit6024 1 radeon
  ...

I have no idea on what can be wrong. Maybe the problem is somewhere in
my configuration (but I doubt it), maybe it's a bug in radeon driver, or
maybe it's a bug somewhere else.

I hope debug info I provide will be useful.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534662] Re: No hardware acceleration on ATI Radeon 3650 HD using 'radeon' driver

2010-03-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Rafal,

I notice you have an xorg.conf file, but pretty much everything in it
should already be included by default. But just in case one of those
settings might be triggering some odd behavior, could you please try
moving aside your xorg.conf and boot X with no xorg.conf at all, and see
if the problem still exists?

Robert, are you certain it's just a kernel module timing issue? I
notice it's complaining that it expects a kernel module version 1.17.0
but is finding 2.0.0. Could it simply be a version mismatch?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 520618] Re: screen corruption on 10.04 alpha2

2010-03-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Akos, yeah print screen likely wouldn't capture the corruption anyway.

Can you take a digital photo of the screen?

If not, please try to describe the corruption you see. Sometimes info
about the corruption's style (long streaky horizontal lines, or blocky
chunks, or noise, or etc.) can provide insight into where in the
rendering pipeline the failure occurred, or can suggest what was in
memory at the time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 529319] Re: No GLX on Inspiron 1721 with ati driver

2010-03-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm. Well one other common cause of this type of bug is if fglrx had
been previously installed. Do you think you may have ever had fglrx
installed on the hardware before? If that's even remotely possible,
please try purging it completely:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver

If that's not the issue, I think we should take this bug upstream. But
to do that we need to have updated (and more) information. Please run
the following command to attach everything we need:

  apport-collect 529319

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505995] Re: java crashed with signal 5 in _XError()

2010-03-19 Thread Bryce Harrington

@computerjy-computerjy - thanks for providing that info, but we would like to
see it from the original reporter. We may want to send this bug report
upstream, but upstream has a hard and fast rule that logs from someone other
than the original reporter are not acceptable. The reason for that is that
quite often with X.org bug reports, two people may *think* they have the same
issue based on commonality of symptoms and/or hardware, but in truth they have
separate issues and mixing the report and the files can cause the developers
some confusion.

If this bug report seems not to be getting attention, I would encourage
you to file a new bug report with this data, and simply reference this
bug report in your bug description.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537640] Re: video problem flicker unreadable hp compaq nx9420 ati radeon

2010-03-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Since it sounds like you switch between various graphics drivers, it
sounds like there is a potential here that you had some bits installed
from one of the earlier video drivers which is now interfering. Can you
please try booting a LiveCD of Lucid beta1 and see if you can reproduce
the issue in that clean environment?

One possible cause would be if fglrx bits were installed, and this is
documented at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538377] Re: HD3450 HDMI output intermittently turns off

2010-03-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Daniel, okay I think we should forward this upstream to look at,
however there's a couple things I'd just like to doublecheck first.

I see you posted an xorg.conf. Pretty much it looks totally okay, but I
think everything that is listed there are now defaults, and in fact
should set up properly with no xorg.conf. Could you please try moving
aside your xorg.conf and boot with no xorg.conf at all, and see if the
issue reproduces?

Second, you mentioned you'd had fglrx installed previously. Sometimes,
depending on how it is uninstalled, it can leave some bits on the disk
which then screw up the open source driver's 3D. I don't see any
evidence this is happening here, but just in case please follow the
directions at the following link to purge any remaining fglrx
components:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver

Finally, I notice you're running the 2.6.33 kernel. Does the same thing
happen when using the stock lucid kernel?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410401] Re: [r300 KMS] modesetting not accepted by monitor

Just a quick update: the original problem (wrong signal clocks) has been
fixed upstream and the bug no longer appears with a 2.6.33 kernel
(haven't tried a .32 kernel recently). There is only a minor issue
remaining with load detection, which causes the monitors to blink when
probing outputs (occurs when starting g-s-d or totem for example).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537197] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup ae9a26a (PGTBL_ER: 0x00000100)

2010-03-19 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
It is possible from your i915_error_log that this is the same underlying
issue as bug 535640, but the automatic log does not give us enough
information to decide this for sure. Could you look at that bug report
and get similar logs as Nicolo did in that report, with drm-intel-next
kernel with drm.debug=0x02 kernel option? Since you go into sleep mode,
you cannot get any logs while in sleep mode, but you can get before-
sleep and after-sleep logs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541453] Re: n-trig: touch screen non-functional in lucid (single touch)

2010-03-19 Thread Andy Whitcroft
@rafi -- the patch presented here does not look at all applicable to the
2.6.32 version of the N-TRIG driver we have in the lucid mainline. It
looks wholy dependant on the multi-touch stack in .34-rc1. Is there a
simpler version of this patch that sorts out 2.6.32 without bringing in
the whole of the driver update?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539507] Re: System Freeze/Pause waiting for something

2010-03-19 Thread Patrice Vetsel
apport information

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: plymouth

During the boot I have a first freeze on ubuntu logo.

I boot on a dongle with desktop amd64 or i386 or netbook 20100316 iso
  burnt on it.

System waiting for something. I just have background and X cursor that I
  can move but nothing else.

To pass it I switch to Ctrl+Alt+F1 and come back to Alt-F7

Exactly when I switch to Ctrl+Alt+F1, the DD LED Activity power on (I
suppose X session continue to gdm)

So, I access gdm, enter login+ pass and got a new freeze.

Make another switch to Ctrl+Alt+F1 and come back to Alt-F7 and freeze
  disapear and gnome is ready.

Same cause, similar effects.

instead of corrupted screen, I get bumped back to logon.

Manually selecting sleep appears to work fine, only closing the lid
kicks of the problem, and doesn't set the system to sleep. Big problem
if you don't notice as you get cooked laptop in bag.
