It would be useful to know if nouveau boots your system with
acceleration disabled. Could you please try booting adding the
“nouveau.noaccel=1” option to your boot line?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Nouveau#Disable%20acceleration
has details if you're unsure how to do this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528026] Re: Often freezes before GDM login screen appears

Hrm. Intel drm is annoyingly terse during startup. I'll need to look

what it thinks it's doing.

Bug #535640 has been fixed, however. Do you still get the intermittent
freezes after suspend with the 2.6.32-19 kernel?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549099] Re: System don't see integrated display

2010-04-06 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
It looks like the Intel driver thinks your laptop's display is
disconnected. This seems likely to be a mis-quirk where the intel
driver is trying to guess whether your laptop really has a screen or
not.

This particular behaviour was fixed in the 2.6.32-19 kernel - could you
please re-test and see if this new kernel correctly drives your laptop's
display?

Searching I've found some solutions on

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373690] Re: Synaptic touchpad very slow after suspend/resume

2010-04-06 Thread Raceman
I've the same problem with Karmic (9.10) on my Dell Latitude E6500 with
synaptics.

It do not happen always. 3/4 of the time my touchpad is working okay after
suspend, and 1/4 of the times it is very slow after suspend.
My workaround is to suspend my laptop again, and bring it back. Most of the
times the touchpad is fast again.

I hope this bug is fixed soon. If I can help with some log details etc,
please send me instructions what you like to know and how and where I
can find it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312634] Re: Intrepid Ibex Live CD nv driver doesn't recognize nVidia GeForce 7100/nForce 630i combo chip

2010-04-06 Thread Daniel Clemente
Still unsupported natively by nv:
#(II) Primary Device is: PCI 0...@00:10:0
#(WW) NV: Ignoring unsupported device 0x10de07e1 (C73 [GeForce 7100 / nForce
630i]) at 0...@00:10:0
#(EE) No devices detected.

Driver vesa (instead of nv) works in this case, but at lower and
unusable resolutions. Driver nouveau could help here.

@Leann: your kernel doesn't fix the issue (are the patches really in the
kernel? I don't see them in the changelog).

Also note that the original bug filed by willem.dreyer is probably a
different one with the same mesa error (with karmic UMS kernel) than the
one that should be fixed with the 3 patches.

pci=nomsi, GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash pci=nomsi

everything gone ok! , the o.s. never crashed, i was able to use Lucid

Ok and now , every time i reinstall Lucid must i do all these things? to
add everytime pci=nomsi. or you'll fix this problem with a patch?

Thank You

going to test one please try the above linked one instead.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555986] [NEW] Display resolution options too low.

2010-04-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Every system that I'm running has the list of available resolutions
capped at a ridiculously small and outdated maximum.

On my laptop with intel video, it's 800x600, yet when the same 19 CRT
is hooked up to one of my desktops with a vanta in it, the maximum is
1024x768.

Both of these maximum options are obviously wrong as I have operated
this monitor with both of these machines (and others) at significantly
higher desktop resolutions.

I hope this bug gets some attention as I feel it is somewhat severe and
will result in a lot of bad impressions about Ubuntu considering this
hasn't been a problem in the past.

(I also wish we'd stop breaking things that have been working for ages
with each release)

Close the screen on laptop and let the laptop go into suspend mode.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549099] Re: System don't see integrated display

2010-04-06 Thread undefiened
2010/4/6 Chris Halse Rogers r...@ubuntu.com

It looks like the Intel driver thinks your laptop's display is
disconnected. This seems likely to be a mis-quirk where the intel
driver is trying to guess whether your laptop really has a screen or
 not.

This particular behaviour was fixed in the 2.6.32-19 kernel - could you
please re-test and see if this new kernel correctly drives your laptop's
 display?

Yes, it works. I have been updated to 2.6.32-19 kernel, and display started
working. Big thanks to you. Good luck in your work, and don't ill.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555721] Re: [KMS] No DRICreatePCIBusID symbol, no kernel modesetting. (No libdri.so no libglx.so)

2010-04-06 Thread Robert Hooker
Well it looks like the series of steps you took was what led to this
unfortunately, and it will take some troubleshooting to figure out just
where it went wrong. The correct thing to do in the situation you are in
right now would be to sudo apt-get install ppa-purge, then sudo ppa-
purge xorg-edgers, then when that is done go to system - preferences -
hardware drivers and activate fglrx. reboot and then deactivate fglrx
through the same hardware drivers interface instead of via apt-
get/aptitude/synaptic and on the next reboot things should be working
properly with the open source drivers and you can reenable xorg-edgers
if you want. You had stale files hanging around from an old fglrx
install, how you got into that situation I am unsure of. Did you install
the drivers from outside of the package manager at any time in the past?
Did you have xorg-edgers enabled before you did the karmic-lucid
upgrade? It's possible fglrx isn't handling the upgrade from karmic-
lucid correctly now, can you look at your apt logs and find the exact
upgrade error you had?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553190] Re: gdm-session-worker crashes on usb storage mount/unmount/connect/disconnect

2010-04-06 Thread Dmitriy Geels
Sebastien, I tried to force gdm-session-worker to produce core dump, but had no
luck.
It's /proc/pid/limits has soft core limit set to 0:
Limit Soft Limit Hard Limit Units
...
Max core file size0unlimitedbytes
...

I think, this prevents core dump (and apport to catch it). Limits from
/etc/security/limits.* applied after gdm start, init script with ulimit
-c unlimited didn't change the situation -- looks like, that limit is
overridden somewhere.

If you can tell, how to get core dump for gdm -- I will post all details.
This backtrace was collected with gdb attached to running process.
