[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575894] [NEW] Openoffice freezes X-session

2010-05-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04, openoffice has been causing my
X-sessions to freeze (unresponsive keyboard, mouse, etc).

I completely removed openoffice with synaptic and reinstalled. This
seemed to alter the look of openoffice (I have the impression that
previously I had the older version running somehow?), but the problem
remains. The freezes seem to happen after multiple openings/closings of
documents.

Openoffice package 3.2.0-7ubuntu4

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 542660] Re: New Apple iMac (Core i5) fails to display anything

2010-05-06 Thread Dolanar
I think the most annoying thing about ubuntu or any version there of is
the lack of people able to write a step by step process of what they
did. Everyone just assumes that you know what you are talking about.
So much implied knowledge in these forums that you get lost in what
worked, what didn't work, and what used to work but doesn't and why.

If you found a way to install it be descriptive in what you did for the
less programmer savvy.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 242590] Re: udev rules should be installed by default

2010-05-06 Thread Eric Drechsel
great job Soren! It's nice to have a unified driver, much easier to
support etc.

i was just looking through the evdev and evtouch code and trying to
understand if evtouch has some sort of right-click emulation via
LONG_TOUCH, which is the only other thing I would miss in evdev
(although it might not be that usable anyway)

On Wed, May 5, 2010 at 10:30 PM, Soren Hauberg so...@hauberg.org wrote:
 @eric
I did the initial implementation of touchscreen support in 'evdev', so I'm
glad that works for you :-) It should, however, be said that 'evtouch' does
quite a bit more than 'evdev' (it has more options).

I don't think this bug should be closed, instead it should be fixed :-)
Basically, this bug is about if the user decides to install a package
then it should be properly configured by default.

As I don't work with touch screens anymore, this bug has little
relevance to me, but I still think it would be better to simply fix it,
 rather than doing nothing...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head

2010-05-06 Thread Necrathex
What this background app do to prevent icons, menu's, windows and
notifications to appear inside the invisible space that is now
unreachable by the mouse?

This bug is not only about the pointer, although it is the most obvious
problem, the real problem is that X assumes the desktop area is always
rectangular, which isn't always the case in multi-head setups.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM
Integrated Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02)

I'm using the linux-image-generic kernels:
2.6.32-20.30 = Last one that boots
2.6.32-21.32 = It hangs when X starts
2.6.32-22.33 = It hangs when X starts

I've tried nomodeset, i915.modeset=0 etc with no difference.

Also, while 2.6.32-20.30 boots fine, it crashes when I try anything Xv-
related (gstreamer-properties, totem, vlc...)

What's the difference between Debian and Ubuntu to cause Debian's xterm

Debian sets the background color by a modification to
/etc/X11/app-defaults/XTerm, combined with
the /etc/X11/Xresources/x11-common file. That's been discussed, pointed
out where to look -

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576288] [NEW] second screen in dualhead setup doesn't refresh properly until reconfigured

2010-05-06 Thread wdesmet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When logging in, each time the background on the right screen in my
dualhead setup doesn't seem to repaint properly. Whenever I drag a
window over it, it's showing trails of the window, indicating that the
background is broken. I can also not right click on the background to
get the nautilus menu (create Folder etc.). Going into preferences and
disabling, then re-enabling the right monitor fixes it, until the next
restart of X.

It seems very similar to bug #378482, reported against the intel video
drivers, but since fixed apparently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575140] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu Lucid: Xorg gets SEGV

2010-05-06 Thread Uwe Geuder
Hi Bryce,

 [This is an automatic notification.]

This bug was reported against an earlier version of Ubuntu, can you
test if it still occurs on Lucid?

Did your script fail here? The bug has been report against a very recent
version of Lucid and I have run apport-collect as you can see from all the
attachments.

Since reporting the bug and running apport-collect only one possibly relevant
update has come (linux-kernel)

Current Operating System: Linux geuder-t40 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP

 Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic

Current Operating System: Linux geuder-t40 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP

 root=UUID=8567e5f2-2176-4d29-826d-7f6316bd60b2 ro quiet splash

The crash still appears and the stack is still exactly the same (modulo
address randomization)

I change the status back to New and remove the needs-retested-on-lucid-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 305586] Re: continuous [driAllocateTexture:636] even when idle

2010-05-06 Thread Uwe Geuder
Hi Bryce,

With Lucid I have switched to Kubuntu on that machine. I'm not sure
whether it is possible to retest the original problem in Kubuntu,
because the visual effects are probably quite differently implemtned. I
cannot promise that I have time to install Ubuntu until June, but I'll
try to keep it in mind. As mentioned in comment #12 I'm not sure whether
log writings would appear in LiveCD environment (after all there is no
disk to write the log to) So I guess installing Ubuntu Lucid is the only
way to be sure.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head

2010-05-06 Thread Paul
I think that hacks/crutches like separate app is very ugly and non-
optimal solution.

Moreover, very good solution already implemented in X for case with
separate displays! Maybe this code should be adapted to virtual desktops
case?

Also maybe these ideas should be reported to mainstream tracker, eh?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372841] Re: [X1400] Cursor vanishes in narrow vertical strip of 2nd display

2010-05-06 Thread Stephen Boddy
Sorry Bryce, I'm unable to do a retest as the laptop with the ATI X1400
Gfx chip decided to die on me. I'm now using an NVIDIA based laptop, so
I can't be of any further help here. Perhaps one of the other people
that commented as having this affect them could retest.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574069] Re: [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance

2010-05-06 Thread Sixpounder
Idea: I noticed that gnome desktop takes more than it used to in
previous releases. At first, I tought it was nautilus pre-loaded
instance that was slow to load. But now I think it trough, it is much
more possible that it is COMPIZ who takes so long to load, much more
than in previous releases (at least on my pc). With loosee bindings
enabled (which is required for nvidia chips as far as I know) may it be
possible that bindings to opengl libraries are screwed if nvidia-
settings are applied BEFORE compiz finish to load? That would explain
why my rapid fix that waits five seconds before calling nvidia-
settings --load-config-only works... and it would mean that maybe this
bug's related package is something else and not nvidia-settings by its
own. What do you think?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574069] Re: [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance

2010-05-06 Thread Blackbird
Your thought may be correct in my opinion, because in my case I can see that
Compiz effects loading takes a *very* long time after I login. The desktop
background appears, and gnome-do gets launched immediately, but the menu at the
top of the screen isn't present until the effects start to run, after about 15
seconds.
That said, 15s it's not such a long wait, but I can clearly remember that
Compiz loading was faster in Karmic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 331522] Re: [RS690] flickering after update on Jaunty

2010-05-06 Thread Martin Wimmer
Hi Bryce!

Actually, I still have my HP Compaq 6715b with the Radeon X1250 card

On karmic it worked well, now on lucid it also works acceptable, but with small
problems:
- Before the GDM login, garbage becomes visible on the screen (This garbage
then fades to the gdm login background)
- Once I used fast user switching two times in a short period of time. After
the second time, the screen started to flicker. Changing the resolution didn't
help. When I wanted to logout (so I could go to the other profile to save the
data and reboot) the screen became blank, and i had to use the power switch to
shutdown the machine. After the reboot everything was back to normal.

So I'm not sure if this is actually the same bug, maybe you can provide
directions (I'm also not sure if this bug is easily reproducible)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531872] Re: xserver-xephyr doesn't support swedish/finnish keyboard layout

2010-05-06 Thread Marcell Lengyel
I was trying to reproduce this in Lucid and this is how far I got.

Apparently Xephyr does not support -kb anymore, so I used this command:

Xephyr :2 -host-cursor -screen 800x480x16 -dpi 96 -ac -keybd
evdev,,device=/dev/input/event4,xkbrules=xorg,xkbmodel=evdev,xkblayout=fi

then I got:

Failed to open evdev device /dev/input/event4

and sure enough, I can not input anything to Xephyr with the keyboard.
All files in /dev/input are owned by root and only root has read/write
permissions. Google did not help with the error message either.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576336] [NEW] VT switch causes X session to be lost

2010-05-06 Thread Dave Holland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I logged in with GDM, and pressed ctrl-alt-F1 to access a text console
(which was successful). When I tried to switch VT back to the X session
I saw the screen flicker and after a few seconds the GDM login screen
appeared. The X session was lost.

What I expected: to be able to switch back from the text console to the
X session.

What happened instead: the X session was finished and I had to log in
again.

The last few lines from Xorg.0.log were:

(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
(II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket)
(II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch
(II) intel(0): No memory allocations
Fatal server error:
