[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 730476] Re: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date

2011-03-21 Thread David Planella
RedSingularity, I'm not sure this is a duplicate.

Bug 439448 is about the contents of applets getting scrambled, which is
not the case here. Also, the current one is always reproducible, whereas
439448 triggers in an apparently random fashion.

I'll unmark it for now, but if you think it still is, please feel free
to elaborate on the reasons and mark it as a duplicate again.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot (Regression from 2.6.38-3 to -4)

2011-03-21 Thread Guillaume Modard
I confirm that the bug is still there. I install last update this
morning (I saw xserver-xorg-video-ati, -radeon... update so I was
expecting the bug to be solved).

When I restart, I need to reboot more than 5 time before I get a
desktop. And now, when the boot crash, I don't get any shell, screen
stay black (as if it is off).

I really expect this bug will be solved before the final release. If
not, Ubuntu won't work on plenty of the last HP pavilion laptop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737755] Re: Natty: Cannot boot with proprietary NVIDIA driver for GeForce 8800 GT.

2011-03-21 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for your report.

The freeze you reported originally was probably cause d by the ABI
change to X 1.10. There has been a short period of time during which the
driver and X were out of sync, that's why the update fixed it.

About the Unity unstability, do you have accessibility enabled on your system ?
To check this open the accessibility preferences dialog:
  * With Unity click on the top-right 'Power' icon, select 'System settings'
then 'Assistive technologies'
  * With classic desktop: Click on the top left icon, select
'System/Preferences/Assistive technologies'

And check that none of the checkbox is checked.

If assistive technologies is not enabled and you are experiencing the
Unity freeze with Alt+tab or other action could you please file a new
report against Unity with the command: ubuntu-bug unity

About the performance issue, is it just that the rendering of glxgears
being stall or the performance being bad ? If so, what performances do
you usually get with this system and what is the degradation compared to
a previous version of the driver ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 731810] Re: conflicting memory types - Failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory

2011-03-21 Thread Jose Gómez
I'm having the same problem. Most of the time I boot my systems, it
hangs right after showing the kubuntu splash screen and just where it
should show the Nvidia one.

If I turn off and on again the computer a few times (2 to 10 times),
eventually it will boot.

I have seen in the Nvidia forum
(http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=169294) the suggestion to
add the nopat kernel parameter in /etc/default/grub:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=nopat

However, I don't know what it means and what side effects that
workaround could have in performance or others, or even if that could
fix the problem.

Somewhere else I have seen the suggestion to remove splash from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. However, I don't know what that means
either.

Using Ubuntu Natty with all the recent updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 735126] Re: [natty] system freezes on boot without disabling KMS

2011-03-21 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
I am sure I am not the right person to judge, but is it possible that
it's not even az Xorg server related bug but some kind of kernel problem
when KMS is enabled (the default)? I have no Xorg log at all, and I have
the suspect that system haven't even reached the point to start Xorg
(but I am not sure) just check the netconkern.log file what I've sent:
processes stuck used in the boot process, probably before Xorg has the
chance to start ...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738600] Re: flash 10.2 plugin crashes when leaving full-screen with nvidia 270.30

2011-03-21 Thread Rocko
Here's a small error dump from firefox:

The program 'npviewer.bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 668 error_code 9 request_code 139 minor_code 26)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557566] Re: evtouch does not work on Lucid

2011-03-21 Thread DarkJavi
Thanks Timo, I'll give it a try.
btw, I always wanted to learn how to make and mantain packages. so if nobody
is assigned to packaging the calibrator I could do it with a little
guidance

2011/3/16 Timo Aaltonen timo.aalto...@canonical.com

and if you find bugs in the calibrator, file them against 'xorg' for
 now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 713551] Re: Xorg freeze; system locks and accepts no input, keyboard lights go out when key is touched

2011-03-21 Thread Thomas A. F. Thorne
I left my MythTV system running with my main account logged into TTY4
and have had serveral crasahes which produced out; there have also been
two or three crashes that did not produce any output but still locked up
the system.

This trace looks like it is communicating with the recorder I have
hocked up to the system via USB; I guess this means that my USB
controller, connection or recorder could be faulty or that some spurious
hardware fault occurs while the comms are running. It could also mean
that the firmware for the recorder is wrong, poorly configured or not
handling an event well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 713551] Re: Xorg freeze; system locks and accepts no input, keyboard lights go out when key is touched

2011-03-21 Thread Thomas A. F. Thorne
This was the most resent crash I have seen and I cannot see anything
which relates directly to MythTV or the USB connection to my hardware.
This could mean that the system does have an intermittent hardware fault
and that there is no software solution possible.

I will continue to gather diagnostics when I can in case there is some
strange condition I am hitting. Hopefully I can find some new hardware
to setup and run the same USB TV Recorder from using the same version of
Ubuntu and MythTV. If the fault does no occur on that in a month of
normal operation then I guess it would pretty much confirm if this is a
hardware fault in the host PC or not. I will have to get hold of a
second recorder to confirm if it is the USB device that is creating an
issue but that can wait until after I have check that my host PC's
hardware is a likely culprit.

** Attachment added: Image of crash output from tty4; no obvious mythtv
related output

on and I was scrolling a web page using firefox. X was locked up, but I
was able to ssh from another computer. I am running Kubuntu 10.10 but

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736523] Re: cannot left click and drag with touchpad (regression)

2011-03-21 Thread Chase Douglas
This is actually a kernel bug. The dell mini netbooks have a special
synaptics trackpad that has semi-multitouch capabilities on top of a
pair of integrated buttons. Linux 2.6.38 adds support for the semi-
multitouch feature.

Before the addition of the multitouch feature, the bottom 1/3 of the
trackpad was disabled in the X synaptics driver. Now, we've got touch
functionality in the kernel that probably will need to be masked out in
the driver. I had been looking into this a few months ago, but I gave
the work up to focus on other parts of the stack. I probably should take
another look at it now.

2011-03-21 Thread Anoop Karollil
Damn it! It happened again. Disabling compiz doesn't help either. Does
anybody have any idea? The logs are empty except for the NVRM: Xid
message that I posted before.

** Summary changed:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738789] Re: Ubuntu won't finish boot after nVidia proprietary driver install

2011-03-21 Thread Joaquín Ignacio Aramendía
Attachments in comments #2 and #3 are apport generated reports from the
same issue in today's daily build of natty.

Also tried to plug an external monitor but only got the same output
twice. The boot won't finish but is responsive to ctrl+alt+F1 to enter
a tty console. There i got this two files.

Hope is useful

2011-03-21 Thread borghi
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 113679 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113679

I am using an Acer Travelmate 6592G, with ubuntu 10.04.
After a certain time after boot, the screen fades white in ten seconds, and I
need to reboot in order to be able to go on working.
What is happening?
I did not have this problem with the previous version of Ubuntu, the 9.10

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725434] Re: something (libcairo2) causes a significant 'across the board' memory use increase with -nvidia loaded

2011-03-21 Thread Doug McMahon
Just to see did go ahead and package/install the current 1.10.2 source
without gl enabled, it brought the mem use at log in back to the
expected amount. (246 vs 602MB, unity login on this machine, slightly
greater diff on the affected p4 1GB

As it stands now, machines w/ 2GB or more doesn't much matter, w/ 1GB can be
managed though usage, time online, mem leaks, what gets swapped, ect. will be
a factor.
Those w/ less than 1GB should just use nouveau (mesa3d

Probably a power management related issue, rather than X.

I did not have this problem with the previous version of Ubuntu, the 9.10

Re-test against natty 11.04 (e.g. using a livecd environment or
liveusb), and if the issue still occurs file a new bug report:

Also, if you could please re-test against current natty in case one of
the recent kernel updates resolved the issue. (If the bug still occurs,
attaching a fresh `dmesg` to the upstream bug report would likely help.

Hi Jansonxi,

Thanks for testing ubuntu on this hardware, but we're advising 8xx
hardware testers to work directly with upstream (via
bugs.freedesktop.org or the freedesktop mailing list). At the distro
level for Ubuntu we're focusing only on 9xx hardware and newer now.

This looks very much like a dupe of bug 702090 which *should* now be
fixed. That bug involves fixes to a bunch of different components, so
even though you're on the correct kernel version I'm suspecting one of
those pieces aren't at the right version. Unfortunately since 702090
technically is lower down in the system than X the X bug report tools
don't capture the version numbers of these pieces.

Please confirm that you have the following versions of each package
installed:

  udev - 166-0ubuntu4
  plymouth - 0.8.2-2ubuntu18
  module-init-tools - 3.12-1ubuntu4
  gdm - 2.32.0-0ubuntu12

After verifying you have those versions, reboot the system, and verify whether
the bug is still present.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738526] Re: Launching a Qt app crashes X with NVIDIA card even after fix for 650539

2011-03-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
That log file just shows a generic lockup, nothing actually usable for
diagnosis. Please collect a full backtrace - see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions.

Offhand, maybe it's an ABI incompatibility - those proprietary
applications might need rebuilt against current X or something.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 720468] Re: [i915gm] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x7f9c002d)

2011-03-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
Philip, your log errors are about mutter crashing, not about a GPU
lockup. Seems you have some unrelated bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 703210] Re: Power converter kits for international travel negatively affects touchpad

2011-03-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Eric,

Since there isn't enough info here to really pinpoint what led to this
issue I'm not going to forward the bug upstream. They'd almost
certainly want to see some testing done to verify the cause. Also, a
lot has changed upstream since this was reported so it's likely they'd
want to see it reproduced on newer kernel bits before they'd do analysis
of it. At the distro level I think this is such an uncommon corner case
anyway that given the lack of info/test case it probably isn't worth
tracking for natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2011-03-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
I'm dropping the 'natty' tag added by Marius since to accept this bug
against the development release we need the info I asked for in a
previous comment.

The bug has been forwarded upstream and upstream developers are aware of
it, and since it's a minor annoyance (rather than an X lockup or crash),
it's not top priority for us for the release. I think there is not
anything particular we would do about this issue for natty.

Also, from re-reading the comments on this and the upstream bug, it
sounds like there may be a couple or more different variants on the
keyboard gets stuck issue, which unfortunately are all gathered on
this bug report due to it having kind of a general purpose topic. So,
if people do want to see progress on this bug it might be better to file
*new* bugs and be very specific about the issue (with exact steps to
reproduce, up to date logs, etc.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 720468] Re: [i915gm] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x7f9c002d)

2011-03-21 Thread Philip Taylor
@Bryce i have moved it to 715096, as i talked to your colleague tjaalton , in
#ubuntu-x lastnight, and he suggested it suits better in 715096, as it is a gpu
hung error.
i made a mistake, and am sorry.
