[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank
has anyone tried any other nvidia drivers? (such as the 185 version maybe) i tried installing the 173 but then the system coudn't start the x for some reason. p.s. i also cant use the nouveau driver because of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/776306. i am kind of stuck without any solution to this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753144 Title: focused, or maximized windows blank ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 759934] Re: [q45] GPU lockup (IPEHR: 0x09ccd180)
I can't reliably reproduce this bug. But it always happened in combination with SQLDeveloper from Oracle. I can work with it for hours without this problem coming up. Sometimes it comes up during normal usage of the app, other times when closing it (but not always). I started with Kernel 2.6.38-7, which produced the same bug. I work now for 2 days with classic w/o effects without problems. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770522] Re: copyRawEvent() copies data outside of allocated space causing heap corruption
** Description changed: - This fixes what I believe is a bug in libxi which causes my application - to crash. I have reported it to FreeDesktop.org + [Impact] + Causes crashes in applications using Raw Motion support from XI2 + + [Development Fix] + Fix is committed to upstream git tree, which we'll get when we update libXi. Meanwhile, a cherrypick of the patch has been included in our current libxi package in oneiric; this patch can be dropped when we merge from debian. + + [Stable Fix] + Same cherrypick patch for oneiric is used for natty, just different package version. + + [Test Case] + See test case code shown below. + + [Regression Potential] + The patch fixes a fairly obvious typo in the code. It strictly increases the size of memory allocation, so there is no risk of overwriting memory due to erroneous assumptions elsewhere in the code. This patch has been upstream for a bit and received a suitable amount of testing. + + [Original Report] + This fixes what I believe is a bug in libxi which causes my application to crash. I have reported it to FreeDesktop.org https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36592 diff ../../libXi-1.3-orig/src/XExtInt.c src/XExtInt.c 1196c1196 < ptr = cookie_out->data = malloc(sizeof(XIRawEvent)); --- > ptr = cookie_out->data = malloc(len); In trying to understand a heap corruption when I added XI2 RawMotion event handling to our Xinput-based application, I came across the following routine copyRawEvent() in libxi-1.3/src/XExtInt.c. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770522] Re: copyRawEvent() copies data outside of allocated space causing heap corruption
This bug was fixed in the package libxi - 2:1.4.1-1ubuntu3 --- libxi (2:1.4.1-1ubuntu3) oneiric; urgency=low * Add 100_len_raw_events.patch: Cherrypick upstream patch to correct the use of the calculated structure length for memory allocations. Fixes issue where incorrect memory size was allocated, leading to valuator data overwriting memory, resulting in an error "Invalid write of size 1" and heap corruption causing applications to crash when they use Raw Events. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778193] [NEW] Intel i915 embedded: Patch didn't work 9.10, 10.10, 11.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This bug was previously reported, That bug has been closed with a backported patch. the patch that is working for many users has no effect on the system I am having issues with. PC boots to blank screen, occasionally to recovery screen. I can get a GUI in failsafeX graphics, but have to do multiple hard reboots to get there. This is not endemic to 11.04, The PC in question will not render a GUI reliably with any Ubuntu above 8.10 Dell GX-60, intel i915 video chipset. I have tried the various other drivers, and ppa's. If I could just change the GRUB or maybe the initial scripts to go ahead and boot into failsafeX that would be fine. the box in Question doesn't need anything fancy for GUI, just a GUI. Well, after update from xorg-edgers ppa and some messings with initramfs (tried to put radeon module before intel, but later reverted it) the bug seems to be happening very rarely, but at random :( As drawback, my ttys are gone again. @Cabalbl4, do you mean that it happens when you boot with the power cable unplugged? Or that it crashes when you unplug the power cable after successfully booting? Either way it would be useful to capture dmesg after it happens, if possible. It might also be useful to have the DSDT from machines affected by this bug. To collect the DSDT, open a terminal and execute the following commands: sudo apt-get install fwts sudo fwts --disassemble-aml Then attach the DSDT.dsl file generated by fwts to this bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777964] [NEW] Dead zone on the screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After the latest upgrade to Natty, there're many 'dead zones' in the screen, where the server interprets as the mouse being above the desktop instead of the current window. This happens with both Unity and Classic Desktop. Attached is a screencast showing the behavior when using the mouse middle-click (that in my case triggers the Rotate Cube Desktop compiz effect). Of course, when the mouse is on this wormhole area, it won't interact with the current window's controls or objects, making this one of the most annoying bugs one could encounter. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777956] [NEW] X display with Intel i915 driver occasionally goes blank after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have had Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop (see details in attachments) since September 2010. I have been using kernel modeset. This one has a hybrid Intel/ATI display. I disabled the ATI one and only used the Intel. Here is the relevant lspci output: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) For a while this laptop suspended and resumed with no problem whatsoever. I use this laptop as a work machine that I suspend/resume often (once or twice a day if not more). Recently (for a few months) the laptop sometimes wake up with a bizzare behavior on the LCD display: it flashes a bright light then the LCD went black. Never to recover until I rebooted the laptop. Trying to suspend and resume again won't help. The result from dmesg etc came from a fresh reboot, so it might not show anything there. Once I tried to "scavenge" for debug info or other logged problems when this happened by gathering all the dmesg, /var/log/kern, /var/log/messages or /var/log/Xorg.0.log -- they did not contain anything useful AFAIK. I can attach them if you want. The difficulty is that this bug would not appear consistently. It only appears randomly and I can't tell when it would happen. I am filing this bug report just in case other Thinkpad users with intel integrated graphics also experienced similar problem (or if it has been reported elsewhere). I have a suspicion that perhaps some kernel update in the past caused this bug, since it never happened before. Another point to consider: from time to time I would use xrandr to duplicate or extend the display to external VGA projector. (`xrandr -q' is usually all I did and the magic is done). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777950] Re: Adobe Flash performance extremly slow using ATI fglrx driver
I have an update to this bug: A flash video (e. g. one from Youtube) works flawlessly in fullscreen (!), but it is slow and choppy in windowed mode inside Firefox. If I try to exit the fullscreen flash video, I have a grabled, unusable display in X. If I switch to a terminal using Ctrl+Alt+F1 and immediately back everything is back to normal (thought flash is quite slow again). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777950 Title: Adobe Flash performance extremly slow using ATI fglrx driver ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745304] Re: Graphics corruption after hibernate with Intel GMA 3150 chipset
Eduardo: Please be aware that pre-released updates have a slight possibility of not working well (that's why they're PRE release, after all). Your safest bet, if it's not 100% vital for you to have the hibernate functionality right now, is to wait until the 2.6.38-9 kernel makes it into official updates, when that happens, update manager will automatically offer to install it for you. It should only be a few days. That said, if you want to try your hand at pre-released updates: 1- Go into software center (it has an icon on the Unity panel, on the left side). 2- On the menu, go to Edit -> Software Sources. 3- On the Updates tab, check "Pre-released updates (natty-proposed)". 4- Close the software sources dialog, let software center perform its update process, it will tell you when it's finished. 5- Launch Update Manager. 6- I strongly suggest you uncheck all the updates EXCEPT for the linux-image ones which will install the 2.6.38-9 kernel. 7- Go through the update, restart the system if desired. 8- Once you're up and running with the new kernel, I recommend you disable the pre-released updates by following steps 1-3 and UNchecking natty-proposed. Unless you have a specific reason to want pre-release stuff, it's safer to do it this way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745304 Title: Graphics corruption after hibernate with Intel GMA 3150 chipset ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU)
I have a laptop with a geforce 8400m g nvidia graphic card and I always had this tearing problem. In Maverick I've managed to partially solve it enabling Sync to VBlank both in the nvidia settings and compiz then ,always in compiz, i enbled the undirect fullscreen windows (I think it's called like this), installed the compiz-fusion icon and set it to start at boot with indirect rendering disabled. With all this I didn't have tearing with moving windows or compiz cube. There was also no tearing when watching videos at full screen. I tryed all this on natty ( with 270.41.06 nvidia drivers) but tearing on videos was still there, the only thing I found out that solves the problem is to enable the "Force full screen redraw (buffer swap) on repaint" option in the workaround settings ( always in compiz). Probably it's not the best solutions since the description tells: "Forces the entire screen to redraw every repaint. Use with care, this will cause a massive increase in GPU and CPU usage.". I just want to know what you think about it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600178 Title: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
