[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575660] Re: Mali layout selects Malayalam layout
Bryce, The issue is not on Mali, the issue is on Malayalam which breaks Mali. From a user's standpoint, after installing oneiric, if you choose any Mali (country) or Bambara (language) layout, you will get Malayalam (language). It is easy to distinguish as Malayalam uses a non-latin script. The causes I've identified in the past were a conflict of codes and filenames: Mali (country) has an ISO3166-1 code of ML XKB convention is that layouts are stored in per-country files named after the ISO3166-1 code (thus ml) Malayalam (language) has an ISO 639-1 code of ML According to upstream the problem is not with the ml layout (to fix the problem locally, I rename ml to mali and change its name in evdev.xml) Looking at evdev.xml in oneiric, I am not sure how to resolve the problem as Malayalam no longer makes reference to ML but only to MAL. I imagine the problem still lies in code conversion but I can't check as freedesktop website is down for me at the moment. -- Mali country codes: ISO 3166-1 Alpha-3MLI ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2ML Malayalam language codes: ISO 639-1 ml ISO 639-2 mal ISO 639-3 mal Bambara language codes: ISO 639-1 bm ISO 639-2 bam ISO 639-3 bam -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575660 Title: Mali layout selects Malayalam layout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/575660/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927918] Re: Frequency scaling causes whole-system micro-freezes / Lags / stutters with AMD Zambezi (Bulldozer) CPU
** Description changed: # WORKAROUND # To work around this issue, I change the governor of all the cpu's to 'performance'. You can make this change at boot by adding the following lines to /etc/rc.local . This will make all cores run at maximum rate, causing more power consumption. Note that I have four cpu's. You might have 6 or 8 if this occurs with other FX series processors. echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/cpufreq/scaling_governor ## Dear Ones, When frequency scaling is activated (more details below) the system has short freezes, short lags, short time-outs. They vary in length and can be as long as about 1 second. Here's a video(1). I've received help from the fantastic folks at the xorg-driver-ati mailing list. Here's the thread(2). It doesn't matter whether it is Unity or Unity 2D. Windows 7 runs smooth, without the stuttering / framedrop problem in my LCD's Maximum resolution of 1280x1024. Testing with a dedicated PCI Express GPU (Radeon R300 if I remember correctly), the stuttering persisted. Here's some testing with different governors: performance: smoothness goodness ondemand: the stuttering as demonstrated in the video conservative: stuttering reduced to seemingly about 10% compared to ondemand powersave: stuttering increase seemingly to about five times more than with ondemand When using ondemand, raising minimum frequencies results in less stuttering. Raising the minimum frequency of all four cores to the second step, 1.7GHz, helps a lot and and raising it to 2.5GHz results no stuttering. This is under the limited strain of dragging windows around in 1280x1024 in compiz, Ubuntu 11.10. I've also tested 2012-02-06 image of precise. Still occurs. + + As per Joseph's request on comment #5, I've also tested with upstream + kernel from Mainline Kernels Archive on Oneiric. Here's the basic info: + + shahar@shahar-desktop:~$ uname -a + Linux shahar-desktop 3.3.0-030300rc4-generic #201202181935 SMP Sun Feb 19 00:36:30 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux + shahar@shahar-desktop:~$ lsb_release -a + LSB Version: core-2.0-amd64:core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-amd64:core-3.0-noarch:core-3.1-amd64:core-3.1-noarch:core-3.2-amd64:core-3.2-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch + Distributor ID: Ubuntu + Description: Ubuntu 11.10 + Release: 11.10 + Codename: oneiric + + As per Joseph's request on comment #6, I've tested Gnome Classic (No + Effects). It didn't happen when my CPU was an AMD Sempron 140. As soon as I switched to the AMD FX-4100 CPU this started. As per Gigabyte's instructions(3), in order to have support for this CPU, I upgraded the BIOS from the F2 version to the F3 version before replacing the CPU (flashrom FTW!) You can put the following lines in a script and run it as root after boot. This will make all cores run at maximum rate, causing more power consumption. Note that I have four cpu's. You might have 6 or 8 if this occurs with other FX series processors. - echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor + #!/bin/bash + echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/cpufreq/scaling_governor ## Dear Ones, When frequency scaling is activated (more details below) the system has short freezes, short lags, short time-outs. As per Joseph's request on comment #5, I've also tested with upstream kernel from Mainline Kernels Archive on Oneiric. Here's the basic info: shahar@shahar-desktop:~$ uname -a Linux shahar-desktop 3.3.0-030300rc4-generic #201202181935 SMP Sun Feb 19 00:36:30 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux shahar@shahar-desktop:~$ lsb_release -a LSB Version: core-2.0-amd64:core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-amd64:core-3.0-noarch:core-3.1-amd64:core-3.1-noarch:core-3.2-amd64:core-3.2-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 Codename: oneiric As per Joseph's request on comment #6, I've tested Gnome Classic (No Effects). It didn't happen when my CPU was an AMD Sempron 140. As soon as I switched to the AMD FX-4100 CPU this started. As per Gigabyte's instructions(3), in order to have support for this CPU, I upgraded the BIOS from the F2 version to the F3 version before replacing the CPU (flashrom FTW!) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular
Here's what I mentioned to Bryce about this issue in a comment on bug #933778 (a likely unrelated bug): I also noticed (and this is probably the topic for a new bug report), that a particular operation in Chromium caused a new window to appear, which is completely white, always on top, not associated with any application, and difficult/impossible to close. I noticed that after this happened, compiz is now consistently using exactly 24% of my CPU according to top. The particular operation seemed to involve having the autocomplete dropdown activated while also doing Ctrl+N, though I can't remember exactly what combination of things were going on at that time. I'll provide more details if it happens again, but the window is still there if there's some diagnostics I can run to see what it is. Since that was written, I no longer see compiz using 24% CPU; it has fallen back to normal levels (about 2-5%). Note that though this white window is always on top, it is not clickable; any mouse operations affect the window behind it (for example, I can select text in a browser window that is behind it and the cursor changes to the text select cursor when I hover over text in a window behind the white window). As you can see, I was able to take screenshots of this issue. It seems that the white window is tied to all workspaces, but not to the X display itself (since showing the workspace switcher moves the white window onto each of the displayed workspaces; it does not keep the white window on top of the workspace switcher itself). If you need any more info about this issue while it is still present, please let me know soon. I plan to logout and log back in by the end of today as it's impeding my workspace. The bug does not seem easy to reproduce; I haven't seen a new white window since I managed to create one yesterday. The steps for reproducing in the quoted section above are the best I have. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/935630 Title: White rectangular To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/935630/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular
As a follow-up to my original summary of this issue, I noticed also that the white window appears in the lock screen as well. So it obscures the password entry box if that box decides to show up on the monitor where the white window is. Also, once the login screen times out (ie. goes back to a black screen), the white window remains on the screen, overtop of the otherwise black screen.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933710] Re: Laptops with eDP panels do not suspend when lid closed
Upon further inquiry I've found out that the ConnectorType property that gnome_rr_output_is_laptop() just isn't implemented for most of the video drivers in X, and it isn't likely to be fixed in the near future. So for precise something along the lines of the patch I've attached is going to be required. Federico Mena-Quintero commented on the upstream bug report that the patch makes sense. Is that enough to move forward with it? This really ought to be fixed for precise, or else the code in g-s-d that using this function to leave the machine running when the lid is closed ought to be removed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933710 Title: Laptops with eDP panels do not suspend when lid closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-desktop/+bug/933710/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 938746] [NEW] Double-tap to drag requires an extra tap to stop dragging
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 934770 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/934770 Public bug reported: For me, this is a very annoying regression that has occurred in Precise in comparison to 11.10. Whenever I double-click to drag something on my laptop, such as moving/resizing windows, the dragging continues until I give an extra tap to stop it, instead of when I take my finger off the trackpad. As such, it is easy to forget to make this extra tap, leading to unintended interactions, and it also impedes my workflow. This behavior is also inconsistent with my physical trackpad buttons, which stop dragging once released. Even worse, spin boxes / other UI elements that let you normally hold down a mouse button for continued effect and stop once released don't stop until this extra tap is done. This results in a significant loss of precision, since in many of these cases the continuation of the effect occurs too quickly with relation to the extra time needed to register an extra tap. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. Compiz, in particular, is in heavy development and this bug may have been fixed in the development version of Ubuntu (12.04) if not on your current version. If you are able, it would be of great help if you could confirm if the bug still exists by testing a livecd (available at ubuntu.com). When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect bug # and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. If you are unable to test the development version, please let us know if you are able to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 11.10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular
Interesting, thanks for the pictures Denver. So, this is starting to look much like a compositing issue of some sort. Let's check a couple things to be sure: First, try logging in to Unity2D and see if you can reproduce it there. If so, then also try Gnome Classic (No Effects) - install the 'gnome- panel' package and that should add this option to your login session. If you find it only occurs in Unity, then it may be a mesa issue. I have a PPA with a mesa update we're currently testing, which fixes some random bugs on -intel. I suspect it won't fix this bug, but it's probably worth testing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934770] Re: Trackpad behavior change causes tap-and-drag to lock
I should probably also note that, at least on my laptop, dragging things isn't the only activity adversely affected by this. Trying to hold down spinbox buttons, for example, causes them to continue to increase/decrease at a high rate until an extra tap is used to stop it, which is slower than just releasing the trackpad. So at least in the case of spinboxes, this change makes them much more difficult to use when trying to quickly spin up/down to a certain value, especially at times when the extra needed click occasionally doesn't register and you end up rocketing all the way to the maximum/minimum allowed value. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/934770 Title: Trackpad behavior change causes tap-and-drag to lock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/934770/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This bug wasn't initially just about locked drags nor intended user actions. It was and still should be considering the poor behavior that the current settings will produce for common users like myself who have a basic synaptics touchpad In that case there are continual unintended highlighting, grabbing of text or files and temp loss of the left click. Myself others like me shouldn't have to be figuring out the synclient parameters running commands to gain the expected full use of our touchpads. So there should be a visible option to return to that, in System Settings, a Start up option, whatever. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup
Hello Alkis, in what sense does this bug no longer affect ltsp? I still have massive GPU lockups with the intel driver on our ltsp clients. This is a huge problem for us. Lockups do happen in almost every session, markedly when scrolling windows. The session freezes for some seconds, then windows contents appear scrambled with old content not erased and new content printed over it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934770] Re: [MASTER] Trackpad behavior change causes tap-and-drag to lock
@Chase, unless you plan to revert this soon, please make sure this is mentioned in the beta1 release notes. ** Summary changed: - Trackpad behavior change causes tap-and-drag to lock + [MASTER] Trackpad behavior change causes tap-and-drag to lock ** Description changed: Since xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.5.0+git20120210-0ubuntu2, tap-and- drag locking has been enabled by default. This is a behavior change. When a tap-and-drag is started, it will continue until a tap ends it (effectively depressing the left mouse button). The change is an effort to provide an alternative click-and-drag method for clickpads, where dragging farther than the size of the trackpad is not possible. This bug is for collating feedback. At least here the effect lasts for about 20 -30 sec's, when it happens if stopping all activity the cursor control return in that time frame It is also seen on occasion as a 'stuck' grab, same deal, nothing can be done till something releases. Additionally I've a few instances where suddenly the left click is non-functional, again control returns within 20 -30 sec's With a little practice have been able to cause this to happen within a few attempts, basically moving the cursor with left button depressed (highlight) combined with a small tap.
