[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 635523] Re: Xephyr crashed with SIGSEGV

If you reply to an imported comment from within Launchpad, your comment will be sent to the remote bug automatically. Read more about Launchpad's inter-bugtracker facilities at https://help.launchpad.net/InterBugTracking. On 2011-01-01T01:34:24+00:00 Michael Stone wrote: For the past year, distro bugtrackers have been receiving reports that Xephyr segfaults when it tries to map its client-facing root window: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/635523 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=518960 https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=47928 The cause of the problem is that, on some 24bpp hosts, this computation: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/tree/hw/kdrive/ephyr/ephyr.c#n255 yields a value for priv-bytes_per_line which is too small. priv-bytes_per_line is then used by Xephyr to create its host-side image data buffer (resulting in a buffer that is too small). Then, when Xephyr maps its root window, it segfaults by writing beyond the end of the too-small image data buffer while filling its root window in response to expose-event/damage processing. As for fixes: ajax proposed one fix for this problem six months ago that seems to have gotten lost after an unanswered request for an amendment by keithp: http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/1327/ I tested this patch against Ubuntu's xserver-xorg_2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7 package (from Maverick) and can confirm that it fixed the segfault for me in that environment. The definition of the KdScreenInfo data structure changed between the time of the aforementioned patch and now, so the lines: screen-fb[0].depth screen-fb[0].bitsPerPixel should be: screen-fb.depth screen-fb.bitsPerPixel I believe Keith Packard wanted a more robust patch, with the settings being obtained from the underlying XImage. But my individual need is smaller, and Xephyr is segfaulting for me, so the patch is good enough for me. I applied the patch (with the modifications I mentioned) and Xephyr is now launching properly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881046]
I use xrandr for scaling to make a small netbook screen able to display apps that don't fit in 1024x600 and noticed this regression over the last year in 1.11. I finally decided to look closer since 1.12 didn't seem to fix the issue and came across this report. I looked at the revert commit to get idea of area that could possibly be fixed and it seems like crtc_bounds() is probably a function that should be returning a value related to panning/scaling. I traced were xrandr output is querying the panning/scaling values it displays and looks like comes from ProcRRGetCrtcInfo() and that function makes use of RRCrtcGetScanoutSize() to scaling width/height to correct size. Panning uses rrGetPanning(). To test the idea, I modified crtc_bounds to handle scaling case by adding ProcRRGetCrtcInfo() call. It does seem to work and I've not noticed a negative in limitted testing. I patched a source RPM so I can't offer a real patch right now but here is my modified version of function to get an idea: static void crtc_bounds(RRCrtcPtr crtc, int *left, int *right, int *top, int *bottom) { int width, height; RRCrtcGetScanoutSize (crtc, width, height); *left = crtc-x; *top = crtc-y; switch (crtc-rotation) { case RR_Rotate_0: case RR_Rotate_180: default: *right = crtc-x + width; *bottom = crtc-y + height; return; case RR_Rotate_90: case RR_Rotate_270: *right = crtc-x + height; *bottom = crtc-y + width; return; } } -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881046 Title: Panning in a virtual monitor is not possible after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/881046/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881046]
I reviewed the other patchwork patches just now. Patch 6209 in Comment 7 addresses panning part of issue in crtc_bounds() using same logic from ProcRRGetCrtcInfo(). If you combine my modification from Comment 17 with the patch 6209 then you'll get solution for both scaling and panning. Not sure its the right solution and it seems a little excessive to compute each X/Y movement... but I hope it helps move us along to final solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881046 Title: Panning in a virtual monitor is not possible after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/881046/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This issue prevent me to reproduce the bug on LO3.4.4, in fact I found on LO3.5.1 the bug appear on gnome classic without effects as well, so I'm doubting my previous reported result. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966046 Title: Libreoffice startup (soffice) GUI glitch: side bars are not refreshed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/966046/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966352] [NEW] Dual-Monitor not working with fglrx in 12.04
Public bug reported: A few weeks ago I upgraded to 12.04 because I wanted to test it. I did the update in 2 parts because my computer crashed the first time. A few days ago i updated a few packages with apt-get (about 20 packages I think). Suddenly my dual-monitor setup did not work any longer (same bug as written below), I decided to reinstall Ubuntu to get a clean OS. Installing fglrx-updates with jockey didn't work so i installed it through the terminal. Then i set up up my screens in amdcccle (multi-desktop). That way it worked perfectly in 11.10. Now the only thing i got is a white primary screen and a working secondary screen. If my mouse enters the left screen, the cursor changes to an X. I can right click on the blank screen and the menu opens, but i can not have any windows on the screen. I can change which monitor works either my left or my right screen by editing xorg.conf. If I activate Xinerama in amdcccl both screens work, but i only get Unity2D automatically at login and everything feels really slow. In 11.10 both screens worked without Xinerama (i had Xinerama turned off because i have the top-bar of unity on both screen, which i don't like) My graphics card is an AMD Sapphire 6850. Edit: I can't remember exactly and i can't test it right now but I think with open source drivers it worked. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: fglrx multi-monitor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966352 Title: Dual-Monitor not working with fglrx in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/966352/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
