[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1048874] Possible regression detected

2012-09-12 Thread Apport retracing service
This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #716251.
However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than
the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the
problem is in a dependent package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049501] [NEW] Flashing cursor appears in several random places on the screen

2012-09-12 Thread Julian Edwards
Public bug reported:

After booting to gdm, there are a few flashing underline style cursors
flashing in various places on the screen. It looks like a VT is
bleeding through but in a corrupted way.

In addition, the ctrl-alt-Fn keys don't switch VTs. Logging out and
in again and they will then work and the flashing cursor has gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049534] [NEW] [regression from 12.04] VGA Monitor uses reduced resolution

2012-09-12 Thread iroli
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 beta. I have a dual monitor setup and
the monitor connected to the VGA port is useing a reduced default
resolution (1024x768) instead of it's native resolution 1280x1024 since
the upgrade. I also noticed that the EDID information is missing from
Xorg.0.log.

I also attach an old Xorg log file (from 12.04) where the EDID
information is correct.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049569] [NEW] alt+dot is not working for bash's insert-last-argument

2012-09-12 Thread Aapo Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Bash has this insert-last-argument, assigned to alt+dot.

With xterm alt+dot will instead product symbol ®
(as a workaround:) ESC+dot works as insert-last-argument.

Other terminals (roxterm,mrxvt,gnome-terminal,konsole) and virtual
terminals (tty) work as expected (so I think it is not about keyboard
layout or window manager).

** Affects: xterm (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049497] [NEW] nouveau hangs during boot of life system, prevents installation

2012-09-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When trying to boot a life system from a usb key the system seems to
boot normally but the screen turns completely white after about a minute
and stays in this state. Pressing the up/down keys triggers a short
burst of disk activity, otherwise the system seems to be idle.

It is possible to switch to the console with ctrl-alt-f1. At the end of
/var/log/syslog I found many lines in the following form:

[drm] nouveau :02:00.0: PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR - Ch 2/2 Mthd 0x0800 Data
0x

The value after Mthd seems to change - I'll try to copy a sample tonight
and attach it to the report.

The system is a Samsung R580 laptop, the graphics controller is reported
to be a NVIDIA GT218 [GeForce 310M]

** Affects: libdrm (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049569] Re: alt+dot is not working for bash's insert-last-argument

2012-09-12 Thread Aapo Rantalainen
Yes this was about eightBitMeta, thank you for pointing me rigth
direction.

When eightBitMeta=true (this is default)
alt+dot = ® (Registered trademark)
alt+0 = ° (degree)
alt+q = ñ
and there are many of these accented characters.

When eightBitMeta=false (in bash)
(xterm -xrm '*eightBitInput: false')
alt+dot = insert-last-argument
alt+0 = (arg: 0). same as ESC+0
alt+q (and others) =nothing

There are long discussion which one should be default:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-09-12 Thread Riku
I have this kind of problem too. When I power on my computer, auto log
in to Ubuntu 12.04,viivaviivaviivaviiva then there are few little
flickering lines top of the screen. I can open software and do pretty
much anything, but when I push ENTER first time, it logs out to log on
screen and after that the problem does not exist until I shut down my
computer and start over.

I have AMD HD4850, not Nvidia, I'm using those drivers from the
'Additional Drivers'.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1019444] Re: Update Precise to mesa 8.0.4 (bugfix micro-release)

2012-09-12 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Everything seem to run smoothly one old Intel GM965 (GMA X3100) machine,
Sandy-Bridge machine and Radeon HD 4670 machine. Not sure if more piglit
results were wanted for verification-done, but I let the old machine run
piglit tests on 8.0.2 vs 8.0.4:

http://people.canonical.com/~tjyrinki/mesa/802-804/compare/

Do note though that I needed to kill a couple of tests on both that
seemed to either take literally forever (not even hours enough) or
didn't seem to do anything. Also 8.0.2 was run on Unity while 8.0.4 on
metacity while trying to preserve the 2GB RAM which seemed to swap
completely over in some texture test. Nevertheless, the results look
pretty good with amount of passed tests going from 6430 to 6437 with two
theoretical regressions (not sure if I could reproduce those but running
the tests takes all day) and one warning that was probably caused by
metacity.

every 3-4 suspends. I also frequently get popups saying A system
problem has been detected (haven't observed any ill effects with these,
though). I have a Thinkpad T520 with Intel HD 4000 graphics.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1019444] Re: Update Precise to mesa 8.0.4 (bugfix micro-release)

2012-09-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks; I've also done testing on intel and nouveau but haven't studied
the results yet. Working on getting an -ati system to run the tests on
as well.

On Intel, yes there are a couple spots where the test hangs so you have
to give it a ^C to continue. On my nouveau box, under 8.0.2 I triggered
a kernel OOPS (#1047710); under 8.0.4 it GPU locked instead (still bad,
but less bad than an OOPS!)

Theoretically if not for those problems the tests should take about 2
hrs to run.

Hotplug was working for me when I installed precise but now I have the
same issue (some update broke things for me)- I only get the tablet if
it is plugged in when I boot. I tried with a work mates Intuos 3 and it
hotplugs just fine. One more thing I noticed though it could have been
coincidence that I had better luck with the usb2 ports on my laptop than
the usb 3 ports).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-09-12 Thread Junjie Wu
I have the same problem. It only randomly freezes when I have webpages
actively playing flash videos (firefox and chrome). When the system
freezes, I can't move my mouse or keyboard, existing terminal output
also freezes and I can't even ssh into my machine.

In addition, my HDD LED keeps flashing, which means my disk should be
spinning really hard. I've scanned my disk, but found no bad sector. I
also mounted /tmp as tmpfs, and redirect firefox temp folder to /tmp. I
believe flash buffer videos in /tmp as well (correct me if I am wrong).
So I don't understand why my disk keeps spinning during the freeze...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1050035] [NEW] [nouveau] GPU lockup with mesa 8.0.4 running piglit

2012-09-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Running piglit against mesa 8.0.4 produces a GPU lockup (see
Xorg.0.log). This is actually an improvement over 8.0.2 which causes a
kernel OOPS and unrecoverable full system lockup, however it's still
undesired behavior.

This occurred during the run of the following test case:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-09-12 Thread Junjie Wu
Hi Christian,

Looks like maintaining an active ssh session remotely is the only way to
troubleshoot this issue. My desktop just froze again, and firefox
/plugin-container (flash) was consuming 100% CPU. Killing flash
unfreezes the desktop. For the websites I visit, flash usually consumes
10%-20% CPU.

I didn't see your comment before last crash. I will report RAM and
.xsession-errors next time I experience the issue. I also plan to
Ctrl+Alt+F1 to check if I can open a new tty session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046951] Re: No desktop environment or window manager, just X with the mouse

2012-09-12 Thread Greg Faith
I can get the live session to with the small window following mouse by
just typing my login password after I think the login screen should be
ready. The graphic are not good at all but I can get to the live
session.

Tried the live video=of only and get great graphics but the session
freezes after moderate use.

Is there another test case?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-09-12 Thread kingking
The issue persists for me even after doing what #124 suggested. I also noticed
that this happens only when my system resumes from suspend - this is identical
to #107.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 992778] Re: Dual Monitor Freeze after changing Display Settings in ubuntu 12.04

2012-09-12 Thread Medya
I installed the recent updates of ubutnu 12.04 and the dual monitor problem
happened again, I had to go and install pacakages in
http://blog.shevin.info/2012/05/how-to-fix-dual-monitor-freeze-in.html
to fix the problem again !
are we supposed to keep fixing the Xorg after each update?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-09-12 Thread Junjie Wu
Ahh, that's embarrasing. My fault. I was compiling LLVM 3.1 on a 4G
machine, while browsing with many many tabs. When the link stage
starts, it consumes lots of RAM and forces the system to swap. I
confirmed the RAM thrashing from a remote top. I didn't expect
compiling LLVM to use that much RAM.

That's where my mouse movement becomes sluggish and finally freezes.
Flash player either crashes or freezes and cosumes 100% CPU during
swapping. Killing flash is really not the action which restores the
system. Only after ld fails, my system becomes responsive again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046951] Re: No desktop environment or window manager, just X with the mouse

2012-09-12 Thread 2blue
Ubuntu Quantal 12.10 PowerPC, Daily Build 13. of September.
iBook G4 1.42 Ghz.

I tried the daily build of Ubuntu 12.10 PPC just now and it is even worse than
Lubuntu. It boots into a desktop with warped version of Ubuntu purply back
ground, and the only thing there is a moving cursor; no menu, no taskbar or
other regular desktop function. I booted into live CD both directl and live
video=offonly mode.

Does it sound like the same xorg issue?
