Have the same black screen problem on Dell E6520 with nvidia driver (both drivers 304 and 331), Kubuntu 14.04. If I suspend from a KDE session the screen is black after resume. Same thing on a customer's machine with an AMD athlong 64 X2 4000+ and a 8400gt. It's using proprietary driver. Strange thing : If I change ACPI Suspend Type from S1S3 to S1(POS), then it goes to sleep (with a strange signal to monitor) then comes back without problem. i agree, we shouldn't keep it open. In the ideal case, when GPU partners produce drivers (closed or open) it should just work(tm).
