[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313275] Re: relogin fails with black screen, Xorg high load
After weeks of being unable to track down the problem it seems to have disappeared for me. Since it was not reproducable and the load was not connected to any task I can only guess if it's been fixed by a regular update or if it's related to my deinstallation of the virtualbox package, although virtualbox was never run while the problem occured. Unscientific Conclusion: If you have weird load problems as of 14.04 and the virtualbox package installed: Try if deinstalling helps. I'm sorry I can't add anything more substantial to this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313275 Title: relogin fails with black screen, Xorg high load To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1313275/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316035] Re: matrox g200eR2 is unclaimed in 14.04
Hi, Actually if you read through my report I finally figured what is the problem. It is not ubuntu's fault. Xorg upstream simply decided to rip XAA from Xorg 1.13, and 14.04 has Xorg 1.15 or something like that. So basically in 12.04 there was no hardware acceleration either unless you defined 1208x1024 which fits in matrox 200ge's memory for framebuffer. This option is still ok on 14.04 so if you don't need 1920x1080 then it should be reasonable quick (in my case I have a big monitor with FHD resolution so I wanted to use it like in 12.04 where XAA could handle the desktop pretty fine at this resolution. Anyway, I did a nasty hack and avoiding the dependency hell (downgrading to older X would make million otherwise working packages to change as well) so I simply copied some files from 12.04 precise: the files were: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libudev.so.0* /usr/bin/Xorg /usr/bin/cvt /usr/bin/gtf /usr/lib/xorg/modules/* This downgrades Xorg to precise latest with XAA. To avoid breaking the X system with later X upgrades you have to hold the following packages: xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-input-evdev xserver-xorg-input-mouse xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse xserver-xorg-video-mga xserver-xorg-video-vmware Then just restart X and you are enjoing mga200 with XAA and enough performance for 1920x1080p I am attaching the tar.gzipped files from precise I saved for later for you in case you wanna experiment. If you are going to apply it, backup the files which will be overwritten for any case. regards Zoltan 2014-05-22 4:10 GMT+02:00 maddie 1316...@bugs.launchpad.net: Any update? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247624] Re: [Dell Inspiron 6400] Laptop screen is turned off, needs shutdown to work again
Mondane, as per the kernel call trace noted in https://launchpadlibrarian.net/155725117/dmesg.txt this would appear to be a linux kernel issue. Hence, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (3.15-rc6) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc5 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1322134] [NEW] Flat Panel Scaling after installing AMD Catalyst Driver
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Flat panel scaling after installation of fglrx (amd-driver- installer-14.10.1006-x86.x86_64.run) The driver got installed by default in gedit on double clicking. Once I tried to install properly in the terminal, the software got loaded (lots of ). Then a CATALYST control manager panel opened but it was blank with skewed icons. By guessing I clicked on the right or bottom icons and it got installed. But the display got shrunk with black border and about 8% scaled down. This I could adjust in Windows 7 by adjusting My Flat Screen SCaling option and slide it to 0, which solved the problem, but not in ubuntu. Tried various options from suggestions on the forum, but did not work. Now uninstalled Catalyst driver, the panel is full scale and sound is working. But do not know what native drivers are operational. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1321896] Re: Something with Xorg went wrong after logon
Jeromy, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo apt-get -y install xserver-xorg-core-dbg sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and it does nothing, you may be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: gksudo gedit /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash Please follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash when you file this crash report so the necessary information is provided. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657990] Re: System freeze when i'am not moving the mouse or typing.
Romain, I'd sas that for additional troubleshooting the issue the following article may give you some hints: http://linoxide.com/how-tos/cpu-bottleneck-linux/ You should have the following packages installed: procps and sysstat. First, maximize the terminal window. Then run vmstat and mpstat for a while to see CPU usage, e.g.: $ vmstat 2 5 $ mpstat 2 5 If you see high %irq you can use the following command to find out which interrupt number is the culprit: $ sar -I XALL 2 1 | less And the following command shows the recorded number of interrupts per CPU per IO device: $ cat /proc/interrupts which is useful to find out which IO device uses the interrupt (see more in proc(5) man page). -- rpr. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657990 Title: System freeze when i'am not moving the mouse or typing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1307236] Re: NVidia Issues - blurry text after upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04
In my particular case, i installed the nvidia driver off the nvidia site, and everything was good for about a week. I then experienced the blurry text yesterday. I searched the sites and what i read ranged from reboot to remove and re-install unity. That seemed extreme, so logged out of unity and logged in as guest. The screens were as crisp as they once were. It is a profile issue. I attempted to find the culprit and what i found is the nvida-settings file. it is either corrupted or has some odd information in it causing the text to display as blurry. I found an article (can't remember where) that said it was a H sync scan rate issue within the file. I tried disabling the FXAA fix but it didn't work for me. you find it by doing a ls -al (it shows the hidden files/directories) All I did was find the nvida-settings file and deleted it. Log out and log back in, and all should be good. The file gets recreated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307236 Title: NVidia Issues - blurry text after upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/1307236/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1293314] Re: Severe performance regression with xserver 1.15
This bug was finally resolved with updates to sdl, used by all the games I saw it in. When I first changed repos to move to Utopic Unicorn, a new SDL package returned both Critter and Scorched3d to full performance. Then another update reverted some change, and performance fell right back to where it had been. Finally a 3ed update fixed it again, hopefully for good. libsdl1.2debian_1.2.15-8ubuntu2_amd64.deb brought the original fix libsdl1.2debian_1.2.15-9ubuntu1_amd64.deb rolled it back libsdl1.2debian_1.2.15-9ubuntu2_amd64.deb fixed it for good, had this changelog entry: libsdl1.2 (1.2.15-9ubuntu2) utopic; urgency=medium * Restore accidentally-clobbered changes from 1.2.15-8ubuntu2. [ Timo Jyrinki ] * debian/patches/sdl-check-for-SDL_VIDEO_X11_BACKINGSTORE.patch: - Restore old backingstore behavior to prevent tearing (LP: #1280665) Had to revert HUNDREDS of packages one at a time to find this! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1301839] Re: AMD Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M[1002:6660] Low-graphic mode with Trusty
This bug seems to be half fixed. After a fresh 14.04 install, I do sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt-get upgrade. Then, the desktop is usable. However, it appears to have low color density because the default purple background shades are all stair-stepped and dithered. I'm positive it's not the Ubuntu desktop background that's at fault, because it looks great on a much older machine. Perhaps there's a workaround through the command line, but this should not be the default behavior. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301839 Title: AMD Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M[1002:6660] Low-graphic mode with Trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/1301839/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep
I am running Xubuntu 14.04 (upgraded from 13.10) and I just experienced the blank screen after I resumed from a suspend. I wasn't having problems with resuming from suspend until today. I put my desktop into suspend by using the logout button in the upper right corner and choosing the suspend option this morning. When i came home from work I hit my power button (it was flashing like it always does when in suspend mode) and both my monitors acted like they were receiving a signal (power buttons remained lite) but I couldn't do anything. Just a blank black screen. I couldn't go to tty1 or anything. I had to hard reboot my machine using the case reset switch. I am not sure what files to post here as far as logs. I am using the Nvidia binary driver 337.19 from their website with a GTX 760. I have an i5-4670k OC'd to 4Ghz with 8GB of DDRIII G-Skill Sniper 2133Mhz RAM -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283938 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-trusty/+bug/1283938/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1322413] [NEW] Radeon HD 8670M sets wrong color depth
Public bug reported: First of all, I disabled my computer by attempting to fix this, so unfortunately the hardware summary attached to this report is from an unrelated machine. The problem is that when Ubuntu 14.04 boots, it sets a low color depth. This is visible because the default purple desktop background has stairstep color shading with dithering. I attempted to fix this by copying /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and inserting DefaultDepth 24 before the last EndSection. Plain vanilla 14.04 can't boot this video chip at all. You need this fix before you can see the above bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- ati/+bug/1301839 If this can't or won't be fixed, then please inform as to how we should modify xorg.conf or whatever in order to get decent 24 or 32-bit depth. In particular, at 1920x1080.
