[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1716741] Re: [artful] After killing Google Chrome, X.org crashes

2018-02-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Oded Arbel, closing as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1716741/comments/38
given this is no longer reproducible.

** Description changed:

Sometimes (quite often recently) Google Chrome gets stuck on my computer
  - its not responding at all and when resizing the window there is no
  repaint.

If I then kill the process (it seems to happen both for TERM and KILL),
the Google Chrome windows close and everything seems to work for a some
short time (less than a minute) and then I get kicked out of the
  session.

Looking at the Xorg.0.log.old, I see this:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1744429] Re: [Dell OptiPlex 755] PC freezes while playing vlc or youtube

2018-02-09 Thread gregrwm
no lockup today. probably because i used far fewer firefox tabs. i
suspect xorg gets into trouble under the strain of thrashing. i suspect
this is a new issue because the new version of firefox recently
introduced into xenial has a significantly larger memory footprint.
tomorrow perhaps i'll try with more tabs open.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1716741] Re: [artful] After killing Google Chrome, X.org crashes

2018-02-09 Thread Oded Arbel
I have ran the tool a few times because it seemed to be crashing - at
first it wouldn't run at all complaining about missing PyQT, so I
installed python-qt-binding; then it seemed to be crashing due to
missing pathlib, so I installed that as well and ran it again.

Regarding the original problem, I have to say that in the last few
months Chrome has been relatively stable and I hadn't needed to call it,
so I didn't encounter that specific problem for a while now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1716741] UdevDb.txt

2018-02-09 Thread Oded Arbel
apport information

** Attachment added: "UdevDb.txt"
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716741/+attachment/5052275/+files/UdevDb.txt

** Description changed:

Sometimes (quite often recently) Google Chrome gets stuck on my computer
  - its not responding at all and when resizing the window there is no
  repaint.

If I then kill the process (it seems to happen both for TERM and KILL),
the Google Chrome windows close and everything seems to work for a some
short time (less than a minute) and then I get kicked out of the
  session.

Looking at the Xorg.0.log.old, I see this:

** Tags added: apport-collected artful kubuntu third-party-packages

** Description changed:

Sometimes (quite often recently) Google Chrome gets stuck on my computer
  - its not responding at all and when resizing the window there is no
  repaint.

If I then kill the process (it seems to happen both for TERM and KILL),
the Google Chrome windows close and everything seems to work for a some
short time (less than a minute) and then I get kicked out of the
  session.

Looking at the Xorg.0.log.old, I see this:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1668722] Re: 60x11-common_xdg_path uses $DESKTOP_SESSION which needs a sanity check

2018-02-09 Thread Simon Quigley
So it seems that the problem is not that xorg doesn't set
DESKTOP_SESSION correctly, it's that SDDM uses an absolute path for this
instead of just the base name like every other window manager.

I'll fix it in Ubuntu; meanwhile, a bug is filed upstream. Linked here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1715453] Re: compis makes desktop slow

2018-02-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Majestyx, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1743797] Re: [HP Compaq nc6400] Blank screen on boot

2018-02-09 Thread Greta Regan
I've attached a boot recording - all went smoothly this time. I trimmed
it down to just the boot log itself. It may look like I cut off the
start of the log, but I didn't. I have the complete file, though, if
needed, including what happens after the boot (not much visibly). If
it's not clear enough or you think I've missed something you need at the
top or bottom of the screen, I can have another go.

** Attachment added: "recording of boot without workaround"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1748511] Re: Xorg crash

2018-02-09 Thread Jon Watte
Thanks for the questions

1) Removing the kernel parameter causes the same problem (plus, shutdown
doesn't work.)

2) I cannot take the graphics card out of the laptop, but I uninstalled
the nouveau package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. This may have improved
things; see below!

3) This is on a fresh install of 17.10 on a freshly
partitioned/formatted disk.

4) When I log in to an Xorg session (after removing the nouveau xorg
driver,) the desktop takes a long time to appear. The computer is
largely unresponsive to mouse/keyboard for many seconds, then becomes
responsive for a second, then goes unresponsive again; this repeats a
few times, before the desktop entirely locks up (and a SSH shell also is
locked up at that point.) However, pointing on the touchscreen will move
the cursor in this state; moving the touchpad does not move the cursor,
and nothing can be clicked/interacted with.

Regarding 2) after logging into a default session (Wayland,) with the nouveau
Xorg driver removed, but the nouveau kernel module still loaded (despite
blacklisting,) it has not crashed my desktop yet.
vainfo seems to think that I have accelerated video decoding, and glxgears runs
at 60 fps in full screen, so perhaps this is a workaround?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1722843] Re: Updates Block

2018-02-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
José Ribamar Vasconcelos, thank you for taking the time to report this
bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, Linux Mint is not a
software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because
of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug.
Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1722835] Re: I was working and everything freeze.

2018-02-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Carlos Matons Cesco, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better.

1) To see if this is already resolved in your release, could you please
update your HWE stack as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack and advise to the
results?

2) Is this issue something that started to happen after an update? If so
which specifically?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1748511] Re: Xorg crash

2018-02-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jon Watte, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) Regarding using kernel parameter:
acpi_rev_override=5

Could you please advise if you remove it altogether (i.e. perform a
default boot) what happens?

2) Regarding your attempt to blacklist nouveau, as per your log below, it isn't
blacklisted:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1748511/+attachment/5052050/+files/Lspci.txt

Hence, you may want to disable it in BIOS, or physically pull it out of
the board so you don't have to maintain a blacklist effort.

3) Is this issue something that started to happen after an update? If
so, which one specifically?

4) If you login to an xorg session instead of a wayland session, is this
still reproducible?

convenient, so you don't have to undo the WORKAROUND on your install.

2018-02-09 Thread dino99
@shemgp
thanks for the ppa, and pointing to mpv, i was not aware of that app

Enabled the ppa on Bionic, and upgraded the system with your packages.
Restarted the gnome-shell session (alt+F2+r), then started gtkorphan
that was previously exposing a dropdown black menu: but no luck, the
problem persist.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1743797] Re: [HP Compaq nc6400] Blank screen on boot

2018-02-09 Thread Greta Regan
I'm using a camera to record the video, that's not causing problems -
aside from having to experiment a bit to get a clear shot of the log.
The problems have been with the boots themselves. But, I'll do as you
say. I'll try later today - when I can do without the laptop for awhile,
as even after I reverse the changes to the grub it's taken some time to
get it working properly (or at all) again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1747744] Re: [regression] Video playback in totem is corrupted in X11

2018-02-09 Thread shemgp
Verified that the patch in fd works in mesa 17.3.3. People may test
here: https://launchpad.net/~shemgp/+archive/ubuntu/testing

Although, totem still runs at like 10~18% CPU while mpv is lower at
3~5%.
