[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2009785] [NEW] WLAN functionality cannot be controlled any more
Public bug reported: After the latest upgrade and a reboot, the WLAN connectivity features have disappeared from the menu on the upper right hand side menu, and the system does not connect to the local WLAN at my home; in short: WLAN DOES NOT WORK ANY MORE (Luckily, Ethernet connectivity is still available so I can send this using USB tethering.) New, however is Bluetooth connectivity control. Turning this off, turns on airplane mode; turning airplane mode off returns the Bluetooth control menu entry. $ lspci -nnk -d::0280 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw
In my case, starting steam causes the text 'reporting 9 5 33 271' to be added to /var/log/Xorg.0.log three times. It's always printed twice in a row and again a few seconds later. For example these are two starts of steam: [ 17002.853] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17002.878] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17006.628] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17021.267] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17021.297] reporting 9 5 33 271 [ 17025.236] reporting 9 5 33 271 But this does happen with and without DRI_PRIME=1, so I don't know if it is related to this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1430888 Title: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1430888/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw
This bug is already present in 14.10. My system is a HP Pavilion laptop with a muxless Intel/AMD combination (Intel Sandybridge HD graphics and AMD Radeon HD6770). A Workaround that works most of the time is to press Win+D again and again to switch between desktop and game application. After a few iterations the problem is usually gone: once a game (or steam) starts drawing, everything works fine.

I tried to reproduce the problem with glxgears. It can happen, but it is harder to reproduce than with steam. For steam it happens every time, for glxgears it only happened twice out of ~15 tries. But when it happens in glxgears, no reporting 9 5 33 271 lines are added to Xorg.0.log, so I think these are two different issues. The compositing-enable trick also works for glx_gears. As far as I can tell the problem only happens with certain programs. I think it depends on whether or not OpenGL is used for drawing. For me it happens for *) Steam *) Games (both Steam and others like e.g. supertuxkart) *) glxgears It does not happen for typical office programs that use GUI toolkits like Qt or GTK, e.g. okular, gedit, etc. According to [1] Steam uses a custom toolkit called VGUI, which is also uses by their Source engine. Thus I would guess that it is also drawn using OpenGL. Additional note regarding compositing: *) The problem happens regardless if compositing is enabled or disabled. *) Enabling compositing fixes the problem (as far as I can tell always). By the other you mean the 2.6.39 kernel? That was only good for testing whether the bug still exists in the newest kernel version. Yes, you can uninstall it. So the patched one works for you? I think I did misunderstand your comment about the mouse move. Please clarify: It comes up bright when you boot? Then it goes black when you move the mouse? You then use the hotkeys to make it brighter again and now it stays that way even if you move the mouse? I have just found a fix for my system. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 773471] Re: No brightness on LCD monitor (Acer Aspire 5732Z)
I just found out myself that the patched kernel comes with a nasty drawback. My backlight comes up fine and I can control the brightness just fine until I close the lid. After reopening it stays black no matter what I do, including setpci. Your symptoms sound different, however. How long does it work with the patched kernel? Till the first mouse move? Do the backlight hotkeys work till then? When it goes black can you bring it back on with setpci? output from uname -a and ls /sys/class/backlight? Does the command: xset dpms force off switch it off and does it come back on when you press a key or at least with setpci? What happens after you close the lid? I am hoping that by providing enough details the author of the patch will be able to fix this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773471 Title: No brightness on LCD monitor (Acer Aspire 5732Z) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 633424] Re: maverick screen does not update except when mouse moves or key is held down
Happened again with a current live maverick usb stick booted via loopmount. Details: It happened when I plugged in the usb umts modem. I had done not much more than open the resources tab of system monitor (which makes the bug easy to see). Continuously moving the mouse makes graphics update smooth again. Pressing a key like shift does not make it quite as smooth. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 633424] [NEW] maverick screen does not update except when mouse moves
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The screen does update very reluctantly unless I move the mouse. This can be seen very well e.g. in sytem monitor resources. The graphs move smoothly as long as I wiggle the mouse, if I stop the graphs only update in fits and bounds. This does not happen always, but the system has gotten into this state rather regularly for as long as I have been trying maverick afair. The system also leaves this buggy state by itself. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 546578 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546578 Hi zvaral First of all thank you for reporting this bug. I saw that the two reports were about the same bug and made the decision to mark them duplicates this way around for purely practical reasons: afaik a bug which has duplicates can not be made a duplicate itself without unduping all those duplicates. bug 546578 already had 4 duplicates. bug 546578 had the upstream link (and as far as I can see those bug header entries are not inherited from duplicates) bug 546578 already had a header entry for xorg-server which has been suggested as the culprit in the upstream comments (the bug shows on both ati and intel) it also had an even higher affects count it had the workaround in the bug description before bug 529882 So all in all this seemed to be the better (more convenient, more useful) way to mark them duplicates. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451518] Re: [i945g] karmic: INFO: task i915/* blocked for more than 120 seconds.
I'm seeing this problem too, since I moved from Kubuntu 8.04 to 9.10. HW: Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook E4010D and a intel 955 GPU, all the latest patches for xorg and kde loaded, also from PPA. Kernel 2.6.31-20, but same problems from on -14. KDE 4.4.1, xserver-xorg-video-intel - 2:2.9.01-1. Basically 3 types of graphics errors with different severity and effects: the little tabs or hints with detailed info from the task bar don't always show up at the right place, and don't always get removed right. A bit annoying, but not too serious. One way to reproduce: left click on the network manager icon after bootup, the info shows up in the top left corner of the screen. Right click on the icon, info directly next to it, left click from from on then on the same. Every other effects alike are random, couldn't find a way to reproduce. video from a webcam (Logitech C300) on skype or cheese never worked for me on 9.10. No streaming of any video data in anyone of the 2 apps, but mplayer worked fine! I almost gave up on this, but the latest xorg intel driver update around the frame buffer alignment bug made it happen, and everything perfectly works now, thx! the third bug is about the one mentioned everywhere above, a complete lockup of the screen, randomly, maybe 2 days in a row fine, then 3 times a day. Always in conjunction with some heavier graphics activities, like opening some new windows, selecting a bigger text etc., and only a complete shutdown helps. I'm still not that deep into all the tools, but after such a lockup we still can get onto the laptop with ssh, and I think it was ksysguard showing the i915_gem_retire_work_handler status for the i915 driver. This bug is extremely annoying, and I've lost quite some work due to it already.. OK, a few days ago I found just by coincidence the 100% killer for my system, it's Google Earth, the latest downloadable version. Just start, and within a few seconds my laptop graphics is dead. Perfectly works on another system with all the same os and graphics versions as on my laptop, but with a ATI radeon GPU, could verify this today, so it's not like I thought a bug in Google Earth, but apparently in the graphics driver. this other PC also doesn't experience the lockups, and never did so. But it had this hints location problem too, which disappeared since we've changed in the BIOS (!!!) the default settings for the graphics card from PCI to PCIe, which it really is. sorry if I messed up a little bit here and maybe put too many things into this thread, but I think most or all of the bugs are clearly related and come down just to the intel i915 xorg driver. could anybody with more linux knowledge than me please verify the Google Earth i915 killer, and publish the appropriate info, or tell me what exactly to do in order to provide the necessary info. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 439188] Re: [GM45] blender rotate (xrandr) on external monitor freezes, logouts, corruptions
I just did some testing on this bug with lucid 20100216 desktop iso 64bit loopback mounted from hd via grub2. with current lucid graphics drivers: stock blender (2.49): freeze on the second rotate back after also rotating the cube in blenders 3D window. no ctrl+alt+F1, but sysrq+K works. Furthermore, the left rotated blender fullscreen window takes only about the upper half of the screen. blender 2.5alpha0: same freeze. with current xorg-edgers drivers (mesa7.8.0 git20100211): no freezes with either blender version. Some small visual problems appear that then go away completely: sometimes blender first expands over both screens and on first click in blender scales back to fullscreen on the big screen (as it should have been from the start) once or twice there were strange redraw problems. e.g. the configure display settings menue appeared bit by bit only on mouseover. -- [GM45] blender rotate (xrandr) on external monitor freezes, logouts, corruptions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439188 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

hypothesis: karmic's version of openal is the problem workaround 1: echo 'drivers = alsa, oss, solaris, dsound, winmm, port, wave' ~/.alsoftrc (back up your old .alsoftrc if you have one) restart workaround 2: compile blender with WITH_BF_OPENAL = 'false' I have only tried workaround 1. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378554] Re: [G45] (UXA) openarena crashes after 1-20 min of play
Hi Olaf Do you still see the bug, especially with karmic or karmic+xorg-edgers? I had the openarena-benchmark from phoronix running last week. That ran just fine on comparable hardware and it takes about 10 to 20 minutes to complete, I guess. That was with current karmic development version + xorg-edgers iirc. -- [G45] (UXA) openarena crashes after 1-20 min of play https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378554 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
