sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt install linux-image-generic-lts-yakkety

Why did you close the issue? I still have to power off my laptop instead
of suspending.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1553678] [NEW] os-prober doesn't detect Windows properly with EFI and MBR partition

2016-03-06 Thread kay
Public bug reported:

https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/d-i/os-prober.git/tree/os-
probes/mounted/x86/05efi#n42..n45

Disk has regular MBR table. It has Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed on
different partitions. Os-prober doesn't detect EFI partition on MBR
table because "udevadm info" returns "dos" partition scheme instead of
expected "msdos".

  $ udevadm info /dev/sda1 | grep  dos
  E: ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME=dos
  E: ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE=dos

  $ fdisk -lu /dev/sda | grep -B1 -A1 ef
 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
  /dev/sda1   *2048  616447  307200   ef  EFI (FAT-12/16/32)
  /dev/sda2  616448   128134439637589967  HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

Fixing conditions below resolves the issue:

-   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" != gpt -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" !=
msdos \) -o \
+   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" != gpt -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" !=
dos \) -o \
\( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" = gpt -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_TYPE" !=
c12a7328-f81f-11d2-ba4b-00a0c93ec93b \) -o \
-   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" = msdos -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_TYPE" !=
0xef \) ]; then
+   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" = dos -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_TYPE" !=
0xef \) ]; then

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1329034] Re: Touchpad only recognized as mouse2 but does not offer scrolling

2015-03-13 Thread Felix Kay
Possibly #1336086 is a dublicate.

I am confirming this bug for my DELL LATITUDE D620 (old machine) and
Ubuntu Trusty LTS.

The trouble with the touchpad driver - the touchpad being misrecognised
as a PS2 mouse - seems to occure with different DELL models as well as
even with different manufacturers (cf. #1336086).

Since working with a pointing device is essential to productive working
on a computer and since there has been often trouble with this driver
since Ubuntu Precise (solving the bug seems to have been eventually
dropped for Precise, Quantal etc.) I would like to suggest that a bug
solution should be intensively worked on.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1036868] Re: Xorg crashes back to logon screen

2012-08-16 Thread Ian Kay
Since the updates during the second week of August I am experiencing the
same problem with a Dell XPS M1330 with an nvidia graphics card. I
removed the nvidia proprietary drivers and experience the same problem
(but the xorg.conf file might not have been consistent with this
change...)

I can make the X server crash by:
- clicking on Dash in the unity side panel
- trying to run xfig
- trying to run xfontsel
- trying to run calibre
- trying to run skype

Whether I log in using unity or gnome the symptoms are the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560180] Re: [SRU] Wacom buttons cause mouse to move to upper left corner and click.

2011-06-05 Thread Kay
For me the buttons of the tablet show similar problems:
- at the beginning of a clean session, without having used the stylus at all, I
get the same result as klerfayt with the stylus not on the tablet

- the first time I use stylus (continuously), to position the curser
correctly, the scroll wheel and the buttons seem to work correctly, i.e.
no flickering for me

- after having lifted the stylus (the first time after login), the
buttons and the scroll wheel stop working completely

I am using a graphire4 (CTE-640)

Graphire4 (CTE-640) shows the same problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 209911] Re: [Hardy] Mousing from one screen to another with tablet doesn't work any more

2010-03-03 Thread Kay
Finally!

It was just my lack of knowledge about how HAL works. xsetwacom still
does not work for me, but I can set the xorg TwinView option by adding

  merge key=input.x11_options.TwinView
type=stringhorizontal/merge

to the wacom section in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-linuxwacom.fdi or by creating
a new file in /etc/hal/fdi/policy with

?xml version=1.0 encoding=ISO-8859-1?
!-- this is probably a bit imprecise --
deviceinfo version=0.2
  device
match key=info.category contains=input
  match key=info.product contains_outof=Wacom
merge key=input.x11_options.TwinView type=stringhorizontal/merge
  /match
/match
  /device
/deviceinfo

Maybe this solves other problems, too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 209911] Re: [Hardy] Mousing from one screen to another with tablet doesn't work any more

2010-03-01 Thread Kay
I just tried again to follow Pauls suggestions, but the production version
(0.8.4-4) does not compile a kernel module (.ko) and the latest version
(0.8.5-10) and older versions of the linuxwacom drivers do not seem to support
the 2.6.31 kernel yet. The easiest workaroud is just using the tablet with one
monitor deactivated.
With the xsetwacom provided by ubuntu I get a segmentation fault when I try to
set my tablet to some TwinView mode:

$ xsetwacom set Wacom Graphire4 6x8 cursor twinview hirizontal
Segmentation fault

while changing the rotation works fine.

I will try to file a new bug later. Thanks for your hint.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 209911] Re: [Hardy] Mousing from one screen to another with tablet doesn't work any more

2009-09-05 Thread Kay
I have no karmic installed, but I could repoduce it with the Alpha 5
karmic-desktop-amd64 live system after installing the nvidia drivers.

I also tried to compile the 0.8.4-1 release of linuxwacom myself using
the --enable-quirk-tablet-rescale configure option, but I think i did
something wrong, because after rebooting the tablet was mapped relative
(instead of absolut) and the height of the screens was mapped to half
the height of the tablet. This way the aspect ratio was correct, but it
was not the right option to make the cursor stick to one screen and
switch to the other one, when crossing the border.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 209911] Re: [Hardy] Mousing from one screen to another with tablet doesn't work any more

2009-09-04 Thread Kay
As Paul already wrote: The Problem still exists in jaunty, not only in
hardy.

Although I repeat myself, it would be great to have this configure
option used by default.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 209911] Re: [Hardy] Mousing from one screen to another with tablet doesn't work any more

2009-07-04 Thread Kay
Would it be possible to make the --enable-quirk-tablet-rescale option
default again? It was a really great feature and I think the combination
of using a tablet and using dual head is not uncommon. If there are no
serious drawbacks this would be a quite easy way to improve the
usability of ubuntu.
