[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132

2017-01-11 Thread Paul Eggert
I am still observing the problem on my Ubuntu 16.04.1 x86 desktop, which
has C77 [GeForce 8300] (rev a2) graphics. I assume this is because
304.134 has not yet been backported to 16.04.1 LTS. I hope the bug is
fixed soon, as it's a little disconcerting that the latest stable Ubuntu
release does not work on my non-bleeding-edge desktop. (Nouveau crashes
too often to be useful, and the more up-to-date proprietary driver has
so many artifacts on the screen that it is unusable.) For now, I have
worked around the problem by using the recipe in #20 to go back to
304.131-0ubuntu3.

2017-01-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mauricio Maluff Masi, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better.

1) Did this issue not occur for you personally (not someone else) in a Ubuntu
release prior to 16.10?
2) Could you please advise to the full manufacturer and model of the device you
are using that requires the DisplayLink driver?
3) What version of the DisplayLink driver are you using?
4) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655803] [NEW] x-staging problem report

2017-01-11 Thread Blake Tregre
Public bug reported:

I added the x-staging ppa and upgraded my 16.04 system (equipped with
AMD W9000) to use the mesa drivers in the upcoming release. After about
15 minutes of emacs, terminal, and chrome usage the screen blanks to
grey with blue squares, then to grey, then powers off. I'm logging this
here in hopes it will help the upcoming release.

2017-01-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Grivas, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

1) Could you please advise how your monitor and laptop are connected (ex. HDMI,
VGA, etc.)?
2) Does using the nvidia proprietary driver change anything regarding this?
3) If you disable the graphics card via your BIOS does this influence this
issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655828] [NEW] Mouse flickers and disappears on primary monitor when additional monitor is connected

2017-01-11 Thread Mauricio Maluff Masi
Public bug reported:

Any time I connect an additional monitor via my Displaylink adapter, the
mouse flickers and disappears in the primary monitor. It displays
perfectly on the additional monitor. It also displays perfectly after

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655752] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count()

2017-01-11 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

Using Xubuntu 16.04, including light-locker, whenever the screen has
been locked the X server will SIGABRT crash as soon as the user has
entered their credentials. This happens 100% of the time.

The only related information I can find is a Debian bug report:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=838462

I ran the crash report through gdb and it seems there is a null pointer
dereference attempt for the 'device' without checking the pointer is
valid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655724] [NEW] Should not break systemd in trusty, conflicts with snapd

2017-01-11 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
* With introduction of snapd/systemd in trusty, it has become impossible to
install xorg-server-lts-xenial simultaniously with snapd/systemd.
* In trusty, logind is managed by upstart, and is not restarted on upgrades,
therefore the protective breaks in xorg-server-lts-xenial is unnecessary in
trusty only.

[Testcase]
* installing snapd, should not remove xorg-server-lts-xenial

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1597437] Re: X with nouveau driver, 2 nvidia cards, 4 monitors, does not use all monitors

2017-01-11 Thread Oleg Moiseichuk
I met with the same bug in Ubuntu 16.04.1 (amd64): 2 NVIDIA adapters with DVI
and HDMI connectors on each of them, 4 identical Samsung monitors, 4th monitor
is dead, 3rd is sometimes garbled, sometimes is OK. All the error messages
described by Martin are the same.
Luckily in #2 he provided the method which cures the bug with ATI cards in
Fedora. I decided to try it with Nouveau driver in Ubuntu and it worked!
I downloaded the sources using 'apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-nouveau',
found the string in drmmode_display.c which checks whether HAS_DIRTYTRACKING2
is defined and fixed it. Then I compiled the driver and replaced
'/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so' with the fixed version. After
reboot all 4 monitors were working on login screen, '~/.config/monitors.xml'
was created properly and all monitors were present when I logged in.
I'm attaching the patch. Maybe the developers will notice it and fix the
Nouveau driver?
(BTW, ATI driver in Ubuntu 16.04 seems already fixed - I checked its sources
and the mentioned string is already in place in drmmode_display.c)

** Patch added: "Fixes improper handling of 3rd and 4th monitors"

** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

2017-01-11 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

Please add the Elfdalian keyboard layout which has been added upstream
(see the Freedesktop bug report).

I also propose that we take this opportunity to merge with Debian
xkeyboard-config 2.18-1.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655709] [NEW] Spurious crash report dialog on every login

2017-01-11 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

For the last few years, on nearly all my computers, ubuntu has
rewarded my logging in with a crash dialog. Nothing's actually
wrong; xorg probably trips over its shoelaces every time it
shuts down, but so late in the process that it doesn't matter.

Today I went through the crash upload procedure, but no
web browser window opened, so either I did something wrong,
or the bug is marked 'ignore uploads' somehow... hence
this manual report.

This bug has to have been reported before, but has probably
been marked WONTFIX or something because it is benign.

But it does matter, and it's not benign, because I, my wife,
and my son get those darn crash dialogs.

It doesn't seem to matter what graphics card or driver is in use.

Want the crash file left behind after the last upload?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655752] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count()

2017-01-11 Thread TJ
The NULL device bubbles up from

xserver-xorg-input-
libinput-0.18.0/src/xf86libinput.c::xf86libinput_pre_init()

where it does

is_subdevice = xf86libinput_is_subdevice(pInfo);
if (!is_subdevice) {
   ...
} else {
InputInfoPtr parent;
struct xf86libinput *parent_driver_data;

parent = xf86libinput_get_parent(pInfo);
if (!parent) {
xf86IDrvMsg(pInfo, X_ERROR, "Failed to find parent device\n");
goto fail;
}
xf86IDrvMsg(pInfo, X_INFO, "is a virtual subdevice\n");

parent_driver_data = parent->private;
shared_device =
xf86libinput_shared_ref(parent_driver_data->shared_device);
device = shared_device->device;
}

At this point the parent device's private->shared_device->device node
should provide a non-NULL pointer for the device.
