[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799157] [NEW] Non-deterministic graphical login freeze with nVidia graphics card
Public bug reported: I had nouveau related problems in Ubuntu 16.04: quite often, the display screen was replaced by an irregular black and white pattern and the system no longer reacted to the mouse or the keyboard. Since the Ubuntu 18.04 upgrade, the problem shows itself slightly differently. The freeze is now mostly restricted to the graphical login (only once since the upgrade about 3 weeks ago, starting an application caused the problem). In case of the freeze of the graphical login, the display can get the following state: no background; colored irregular pattern, usually filling the complete display but sometimes only small parts of it, configured background color with black bars. The system still follows the mouse and responds to SysRq-keys but is otherwise not responsive. Like under Ubuntu 16.04, I see many "nouveau ... MMIO write ... FAULT" in "syslog". Trying to unfreeze the display with SysRq-k leads to "nouveau ... Xwayland ... failed to idle channel" messages (with varying channel numbers). The problem occurs non-deterministically. The probability of a freeze is particularly high, when I login while there is still disk activity. When a freeze happened, it was typically after the syslog entry "Started Zeitgeist full-text search indexer." [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1798487] Re: ubuntu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1798739] [NEW] [amdgpu] All video games freeze 5-10mins into play
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I recently installed steam on my system (Ubuntu 18.04), installed a couple of games and attemped to play them. About a couple of minutes in to playing cities: skylines, kerbal space program and mount and blade: warband, the screen goes blank and the computer freezes. A hard reboot is the only way to proceed. I have reinstalled drivers several times, with no change in this situation. I know it's not a specs problem because I ran these games on the exact same machine a couple of weeks ago when I had Windows 10 installed (which I have since removed). I need to update this bug. Since raising the bug, the machine has been updated to Ubuntu 18.04 but still has some issues. Please cross reference with bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766974 The grub file remains the same:- GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nomodeset" which results in lots of scrolling messages which I am happy to put up with. The nain issue is the often errors of:- intel ips :00:1f.6: failed to disable graphics turbo during boot and shutdown. This app arrantly is on +pci::00:1f.6 and I gather is occurring 100s of time in the background. In About my graphics is still showing as llvmpipe (LLVM 6.0, 128 bits) - no idea what this is or how it happened - simething to do with "nomodeset" ? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799232] [NEW] my displays jump to the right occasionally
Public bug reported: I have two monitors connected to my Dell XPS 13 via the USB-C output. For the majority of the time, it works fine. To rectify the problem, I run the 'displays' app, move one of the displays a little, click 'apply', and then, instead of 'keep settings', I 'revert' them to their original, and then everything is fine for a while. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799228] [NEW] USB-ports do not work
Public bug reported: Two out of 3 USB-ports are not regognized anymore (i.e. when I insert a USB-stick, it will not be shown in Nautilus). I tried various workarounds from ubuntuusers, but they were not successful. Among them to use "dpkg-reconfigure x-server". X-org now reported an error, docuimented in the attachment. Earlier I wanted to create an image with Clonezilla and selected a USB- stick at port #2 as target, however, the target was not detected successfully and the backup-procedure stopped. I suspect that the issues may be relatd. The radeon graphics driver is unable to work properly, probably because you are stuck in recovery mode where kernel mode setting has been disabled: [68.968] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-38-generic root=UUID=010804b7-21f1-4e4e-a968-18ae8286fbf2 ro recovery nomodeset To fix this, please reboot and tap Escape immediately as soon as you see the first purple screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799035] Re: [SKL] My ubuntu doesn't show resolution above 1024x768
That is the problem then. If the kernel can't get EDID data from your monitor then it has no idea what the supported resolutions are. First, please try unplugging and re-plugging your monitor a few times. If that doesn't fix it then please also try a different monitor cable if you can. Second, if this is a software bug then we now know it is in the kernel. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799283] Re: Macbook Air keyboard backlighting does not work on Ubuntu 18.10
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.19 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1798739] Re: [amdgpu] All video games freeze 5-10mins into play
Please: 1. Reboot and run nothing other than one game that will trigger the bug. Do not run any other apps. 2. After the bug happens and you have to reboot a second time then run: journalctl --system -b-1 > previous_boot_sys.txt and attach it here again. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798739 Title: [amdgpu] All video games freeze 5-10mins into play To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1798739/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
