[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1626935] Re: [yakkety] desktop is black and/or flickering after plugging in a second monitor
** Description changed: + [ Description ] + + Nautilus's wallpaper drawing doesn't respond to changes in monitor + configuration. Instead of your wallpaper you see black. + + [ Fix ] + + Inside nautilus, the wallpaper widget connects to GTK's "monitors- + changed" signal when it is constructed. It does this only once the + widget is realized - a "realized" signal handler connects to "monitors- + changed". In Yakkety, the "realized" signal handler is connected after + the widget is already realized, meaning that the signal handler isn't + called and we don't connect to the "monitors-changed" signal. + + The proposed fix remedies this by checking if we are realized and + explicitly calling the signal handler if so. + + [ QA ] + + Have multiple monitors. Have only one of them connected. Log in. Plug in + one monitor. If it's autoactivated, check you see your background on + both monitors. If not, activate it ("Displays") and do the same. + + [ Regression potential ] + + I'm not sure why or where the order changed to make the widget be + realized earlier, if it matters or if this was always buggy and we got + lucky. I would guess a refactoring in Nautilus itself, and so the + proposed fix is safe, but watch out for other weirdness. + + [ Original description ] + Using 16.04 daily image: 20160919(downloading date) With testing package for 4.8 kernel: ppa:canonical-kernel-team/unstable Graphic chips: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 [8086:191b] (rev 06) 01:00.0 3D controller [0302]: NVIDIA Corporation GM107M [GeForce GTX 960M] [10de:139b] (rev ff) Desktop wallpaper on extended display shows black background only, and the hdmi detection is very unstable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768610] Re: leftover conffile forces GNOME is software rendering
This is the solution that I proposed to you in private. It is a fix to mesa (a "common" package) and a followup to nux-tools. It needs some testing. In particular I don't think I picked the right mesa package to use, and we also need to check with the mesa maintainer. There are various version numbers in there that need to be correct for the target release. A basic test worked OK though (libegl1-mesa is because I had it in an even more wrong package at the time). Remove nux-tools, broken conffile is left around, upgrade mesa, it's fixed, install new nux-tools and it's installed with the right content and no prompt: root@nux-tools-test:~# apt remove nux-tools ... root@nux-tools-test:~# ls /etc/X11/Xsession.d/50_check_unity_support /etc/X11/Xsession.d/50_check_unity_support root@nux-tools-test:~# sudo apt full-upgrade ... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768610] Re: leftover conffile forces GNOME is software rendering
Cheers! My nux-tools review comments apply to x11-common too. The following are for x11-common: What's the reason for doing this in preinst rather than postinst configure? It's fine in this case but usually we do things in postinst where possible. What about adding a "Breaks: nux-tools (<< 4.0.8+18.04.20180613.5-0ubuntu1)" to x11-common, and making the script not do the fix up if we're upgrading from the new version ("if dpkg --compare-versions "${2}" lt 1:7.7+19ubuntu8; then do stuff; fi")? I think it's a good idea generally to make fix up actions in maintainer scripts strictly limited to certain package versions and this will mean if you still have nux-tools installed you have to upgrade it to the fixed version, so the removal can only have happened earlier than x11-common 1:7.7+19ubuntu8. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768610 Title: leftover conffile forces GNOME is software rendering To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nux/+bug/1768610/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768610] Re: leftover conffile forces GNOME is software rendering
> Well, I just wanted to make sure this happened as early as possible, since this is not related to what the package installs, I thought it was better to handle this in preinst, so that this can be also just removed at later times. The thing about the preinst is that it runs super early, you can't even rely on the package's dependencies being installed. In this case we don't use any non-Essential tools, so it's OK, but often this is a problem. We don't *need* to use the preinst, since either the pkg is removed or not removed before we even start installing x11-common - at postinst time it's going to still be removed or it's going to get upgraded to the fixed version. There's a bug in x11-common. They're all uploaded now. To the SRU team - these are quite delicate SRUs. I think they're right, but more eyes would be appreciated. The essence is that when nux-tools is removed-not-purged at a buggy version, the leftover conffile is harmful. So we picked a core package, x11-common, and made it stash the conffile away. Then nux-tools will pick it up if it's reinstalled and upgrade it to the fixed version in the normal way.

After rebuilding it works again, but I think that xmir support probably got disabled, because of the following in xxv-nouveau's src/nv_type.h: #ifdef XMIR #include "xmir.h" #include "xf86Priv.h" #else typedef struct xmir_screen xmir_screen; #define xorgMir 0 #endif XMIR isn't defined any more. Please could you investigate if there is any other breakage and fix up as necessary? I'm going to upload a rebuild of nouveau so nobody else has these problems but there will be further cleanup required. Would be ideal to use packaging to force users to never be in a broken situation, even if just versioned Breaks if you want to avoid doing a transition. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Robert Ancell (robert-ancell) Status: New ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Robert Ancell (robert-ancell) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1462994 Title: 2:1.17.1-0ubuntu4 broke xmir ABI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1462994/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hello Mahmoud, or anyone else affected, Accepted xserver-xorg-input-libinput into hirsute-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /xserver-xorg-input-libinput/0.30.0-1ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed- hirsute to verification-done-hirsute. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-libinput (Ubuntu Hirsute) Status: Triaged => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-hirsute -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-libinput in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1918985 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT (caught SIGSEGV) in libinput_device_config_send_events_get_modes(device=NULL) from LibinputApplyConfig() from LibinputSetProperty() from XIChangeDeviceProperty() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-libinput/+bug/1918985/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
