Upon a customer sign up for a telephone number in a scarce area, immediately port it to another Ltd company you own and receive your £0.20 per number per year discount. We are doing this - separate company handles the ported numbers and wholesales them back to us. So far OFCOM have accepted the discount claim, but failed actually get the bills right. Once the billing is all sorted, we will be in a position of wanting to encourage more number take up in conservation areas, as we only get the discount on ported numbers and only actual in-use numbers can be ported. This commercial incentive to us is the exact opposite of OFCOMs intentions.

I think most people are happy with playing regulators and authorities at their own game, following their exact rules to best advantage, but it is not always considered acceptable. Even so, a company director has a legal obligation to act in the best interests of the shareholders not the regulator.

I do :-) I saw that coming :) Anyway, the UK v6 council event was held last Thursday, had a good and varied audience, and there was a healthy level of discussion. The slides and video footage will be put online in due course. I’ll post here when they’re available. In terms of industry engagement it was good to have BSkyB, BT, Virgin Media, Netflix, EE, Three, Akamai and others present, and a good success story from the Belgian counterpart, and a little dive into security issues with Eric Vyncke.
