[UC] Secret deliberations and evil tongues
West writes: My advice to everyone: avoid grandiose, evil-tongued posturing in serious community debates. It's almost always wrong What was it about my evil tongued, grandiose, close minded, selfish hearted QUESTION about the SHCA process that prompted West from Penn's censored list? Since the cyber bullies lair in the bosom of Amy's censorship policy, they seem to take pot shots on the community listserv when we ranters and wankers strike a nerve. When the hotel project was first exposed, UCD's West and Melanie immediately demanded that we all shut up. Frank didn't have experts like Tony, doing a sun study. Ms. Allen had no right to speak because she wasn't the President of UCHS. The message was clear. Yesterday, Mr. West could have saved a lot of space and just said, shut up Glenn, you wanker. Secret deliberations, exclusivity, and spin were the corner stones of West's presidency at the FOCP. It was because of the FOCP under West that so many people saw how easily the community and even the members of the civic associations themselves might be regularly treated with contempt. All of that pompous hot-air was useful. We want to hear from you became the in your face insult to the members of FOCP and the large diverse community of park users excluded by FOCP leaders. Secret, exclusive deliberations by Tony's hand-picked elite under an intimidating iron fist became the norm. Is it surprising that Mr. West would use as many derogatory adjectives possible to intimidate me into silence about the SHCA process? The process of the anointed? Mr. West appears to believe that the SHCA zoning committee will be conducting a charade on Feb 13. He seems to believe that the zoning committee will say, we will consider the communities comments then retire for a good laugh, and no matter what they hear from the neighbors, approve the project behind closed doors. After considering West's response from experience, I can see why Barry might have wanted to avoid describing the deliberation portion of the zoning process. Some things don't change easily, but outside people do learn and understand the patterns. Barry simply isn't such a buffoon as some association leaders on the list. With an open mind and generous heart, I sincerely hope the SHCA zoning committee isn't planning to follow the path blazed by FOCP under Mr. Tony West. When will the deliberations and vote of the SHCA zoning committee be observed by our neighbors??? Sincerely, Glenn

I recently contacted him about installing a new soil line and stack in our basement. He answered his cell phone on my first call and came out that next day to inspect the job. He told me that he would provide a quote within a day or two and as promised called with the quote. He explained that he was busy but would be able to schedule the work within several weeks which was fine because it was not an emergency situation. As promised, he called to schedule the work and showed up last Saturday exactly at the appointed time. His price was reasonable, he did nice work and took pains to leave the area clean (including putting a drop cloth in the area where we have a playroom). I highly recommend him. RE: [UC] Question about deliberations of zoning committee
I have to agree with Glenn. I reread his original post, and unlike mine on this subject, where I have clearly stated that I am against this proposal, Glenn's post said no such thing. He merely asked whether there is some deliberative process, how it is conducted, and whether it will be done in such a way that the community can observe it. I fail to see what was so evil tounged about it. Unless asking to see the deliberations is evil tongued. Which makes me wonder about the deliberations. I guess Glenn asked one question too many. [UC] Trusting One's Neighbors
Dear Tony, Glenn et.al., While I agree with your advice Tony for Glenn to be gentle with our neighbors when asking the hard questions, I would pose another condition. I would wish the longtime leaders of our UC Civic Associations would acknowledge the fact that they have been exclusive, unavailable when suitable, and most times unwilling to consider points of view contrary to their vision of development of our community. They should admit their conduct has been the chief reason for ostracized, outside opposition. I am glad and very grateful to Barry Grossbach has acknowledged Glenn's request for a more open community meeting with regard to the 40th Pine hotel proposal. Now that things are safe and secure to clinch their vision of our area, (after so many years), they can certainly afford to be gracious. Still, I would hope they would admit their behavior and political actions gave birth, contributed to and continued the opposition they have despised and sought to neutralize. There should be an exchange and reconciliation on both sides as to what has brought us here all along. The ball is not just in one court. Sincerely, Wilma You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named UnivCity. To unsubscribe or for archive information, see http://www.purple.com/list.html.

Re: [UC] Police activity on Locust and 46th
Alexa, Capt. Joe Fischer of the Penn Police Dept. reported on what likely was this event at this morning's First Thursday meeting with about 50 West Philadelphia community activists. In the past few weeks there have been numerous armed robberies of pedestrians in the area from 43rd St. to 47th St.., committed by two juvenile males. Police suspected they were being committed by the same pair. Our patrol boundary is at 43rd St., Capt. Fischer explained, but sometimes we cheat. We'll go out a little farther when we have free resources. A 19-year-old female reported being robbed at gunpoint in that area. A Penn Police unit was in the vicinity, heard the report, and spotted two males matching descriptions of the suspects. They gave chase to the individuals, who fled though backyards. An officer followed and captured a 15-year-old boy and, if memory serves me aright, a gun. Police now have the name of the other suspect. -- Tony West Alexa Bosse wrote: Does anyone know what was going on last night on Locust Street around 45th and 46th?
