Re: [UC] FW: You know you live in West Philly if . . .
Please people... This is the most rediculous, petty display of trying to one-up each other on who is the most worthy West Philadelphian. Take the article for what it's worth. The author was trying to show her perspective on being a happy west philly resident. The list she made up is an accurate depiction from her (and many other's) point of view. She was just writing a lite, humorous list based on what you might see or experience while living here. She was by no means trying to say she was an expert on old school west philly. Congratulations to the others that had to show everyone that they were living in west philly since the indians roamed Cobbs Creek and the places that are Over the line. Be proud that your community is a unique place that folks are proud to live in. I guess my friend Bill Davis does not qualify as a true West Philly person; he only recalled about half of the items. But what the heck, he's only lived in West Philly for 85 years .. No one said who is a TRUE West Philadelphian. I said the author, actually I didn't, but I thought it was a scripted, stilted PhillyMag view of West Philly. Mr. Davis notwithstanding he may very well not remember all the the things on my particular list. The fact he knew at least half of them would show neither of us are too far apart. University City has been used as a designation for at least 48 years. See Leon S. Rosenthal's A History of Philadelphia's University City (1963).
