Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Radio sometimes not working and USB not connected

2017-12-26 Thread steff

For everyone

so at the end of the story seems that my DAC disconnect the USB whenever
the input is switched to another source or it goes into standby.
It is annoying, but knowing the problem it can be avoided.

The problems of radios not avaialble is a nightmare and there is NO way
to solve it or avoid it.
Let me say that restarting the LMS always solve, but, there is the
need to use a PC or a smartphone.
On the pCP LCD there is no way to restart the LMS.

The suggestion I got is to write a command to automatically restart the
LMS after a while once booted.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] has anyone tried piCorePlayer with a MAX98357A?

2017-12-26 Thread M-H

As an answer to my own question: Yes it works and outputs stereo at
modest power levels

The "phat beat" setup in PCP is simple ;
1) Verify the switch on the board is set to stereo ( icon with 2
speakers ) and connect it to you pi ( zero )
2) Select generic /simple Ti5102 DAC on the squeezelite settings page
3) enjoy.

To minimise soldering look here
https://pinout.xyz/pinout/phat_beat
Solder at least 1 ground pin.

Remember the buttons and leds are not supported in stock PCP , but we
will find a way to do so.

I can say that not alla the DACs are the vary same.
My Teac seems to disconnect the USB whenever it goes into standby or the
input is switched to another.

Question: what should happen if a USB DAC is unplugged while playing?
I have two USB DAC and in both cases, if I unplug the DAC, the pCP of
course stops, but if I plug again the DAC, then the pCP will never
restart until I reboot the pCP completely. Sometimes it is enough to
restart just SqueezeLite, but not always... random behaviour.

Of curse with Windows... no problems.

It is not a matter of Power... believe me... I have a FLuke digital
sampling multimeter and my 2.5 A power supply never drops voltage below
5 V even during boot process.
I connected the Rpi3 and the LCD touch to two different power supplier
and the problems is still there.
Embedded WiFi, external 5 Ghz Edimax or wired Ethernet... no changes.

Thanks for your feedback

Hi slimhase, I too had problems of noise from the pi analogue outputs (
builtin, self-built on zero, and external dac's) when connected to a
small amp using the same power source as the pi.
You can either use a separate power source ( 2nd set of batteries ) or
avoid it by using a dac+amp board.
I just got my phat beat going with PCP and I am pleased with the d-amp
feeding the speakers. Enough power for small applications, and no noise
from powercircuits or wifi. I use them with my hifi speakers ATM and the
music is flawless, except the plops at startup of squeezelight are not
suppressed.

There are also other dac+damp solutions available; the speaker bonnet, a
MAX98357A board, boards based on the wolfson chipset .

As a solution for WIFI on the go; I emulate my home wifi SSID with my
smartphone its hotspot. The the pi ( pcp ) connects without knowing it
is on the road. Fixed reservations in the DHCP is an problem though, my
phone hotspot does not cater for that, however the same solution from my
laptop does.

I have not really used a LMS implementation on the zero, but a 64 Gig SD
is affordable these days, and can provide some local storage. I should
try that on my next holiday.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Linux VMs running on Win10+VMwareWorkstationPro

2017-12-26 Thread pablolie

FYI for now I have disabled the VM and simply spun up the Windows LMS
app - it's far less trouble right now.

That said I will most definitely re-create an Ubuntu VM with better
built-in portability, but it will require a little research. :-) Fact of
the matter is that the old VM has been very temperamental in the new
environment, with shared directories crapping out, mysteriously changed
permissions and so on. So I'll start from scratch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Radio sometimes not working and USB not connected

2017-12-26 Thread Man in a van

Hi Steff

This morning I set up my North Star Essensio dac running USB from a
rpi2b and an optical SPDIF from a Satellite TV/Radio receiver.

Squeezelite set to start automatically.

Switching between either input without any playback problems.

Switched the dac off completely, the pi off completely.

Switched the pi back on, Squeezelite running.

Switched the dac on, USB connection lit up, pressed play on the LMS web
GUI, got music.

So I think from this experiment I draw the conclusion that the pCP/dac
interface is solid.

I would suggest your problem lies in

a) the WiFi connection (if the Ethernet is the same, this can be
disregarded).

b) the power supply to the pi is insufficient (I think *DJanGo* is
suggesting you need to power the screen separately from the pi).

c) the USB connection on the dac is a bit flaky on Linux (test the dac
on Windows or Mac OS).

The North Star requires to draw power from the pi to function (it's just
a handshake; if I isolate the USB power line, then Squeezelite does not
start).

I can't think of anything else, sorry.:(
