Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer LMS installation after power outage
Ah, one advantage my car server has is I've negated the clock, so it boots quickly without the time being present. And since I'm not streaming it doesn't have to find a network either. I've considered networking it to the car for streaming, but then I thought why bother and it would be just another monthly expense. I'm using Jivelite for the screen saver (no clock) and don't have any issues with it starting. It starts playing within 30 seconds and the screen is back to 'normal' in 60. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer LMS installation after power outage
Your question really makes me wonder what is different in your set up from mine. Although my home server is hooked up to a UPS, the one in my car is not and I shut that off many times a day without powering down and have yet to corrupt it. Of course I am careful not to do it while scanning, but other than that, every time I shut the car off the power to the server gets yanked. After a few years of this you would think if it was a real issue, during play at least, I would have had a problem or two. Would you share what your set up is? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Do you have a way to start pCP/ LMS without RTC (date and time)
I had copied all of the screens from before and set the AP Mode up the same way this time. It is 10.10.10.1 and, as mentioned, it does give my phone an ip address like before, but I can not open the pCP web page or 10.10.10.1:9000/material like I used to. Took me a long time to download a working version of AP Mode. It may still have a corrupt file of some sort. After trying to get the entire thing working for several days I was just worn out and happy to have music in the car again. :-) I still have the flash card from the previous install. I could slap it in a pi and look again, but I had actually copied the image of each screen on the working version. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Do you have a way to start pCP/ LMS without RTC (date and time)
Hi Jim, Well, all is working now so I'm a happy camper once again. I did get AP Mode working...with the exception of I can't hit it with a browser. I use my phone to change any setting in pCP. It hands out an IP address and connects, but, as I said, I can't pull up the pCP web page. Not much of an issue though and I'll live without i until I feel like messing with it again. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Do you have a way to start pCP/ LMS without RTC (date and time)
Hi d6jg, What version of pCP did you use? I suppose LMS may eventually start, but it didn't within a few minutes. With the way I have it set up, it starts to play within about 20-30 seconds, even before the pCP Player splash screen comes up. WAP mode wasn't the problem. AP Mode was. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Do you have a way to start pCP/ LMS without RTC (date and time)
Thanks Paul. The console showed the LMS load waiting for the time. It never went any further until I added a date in the bootlocal.sh file as you mentioned unless I had a network connection. For some reason none of the stuff I had documented worked until I started with pCP 7.0. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Do you have a way to start pCP/ LMS without RTC (date and time)
Hi Greg, I did manage to get it all working, but I had to start with pCP 7.0 and several tries to get a working LMS download and AP Mode extension. I don't know what that was all about. I could never get the NTFS extension to download, but it seems like it was included in the Full Update of Squeezelite extensions. I couldn't download it any other way. I got the changes done in the bootlocal.sh file and everything was working, but I did not have the SD Card Imaging. I updated to pCP 8.0 and that fixed that. Made my changes to the JogglerSkinApplet. Last piece of the puzzle. LMS would not start unless there was a network connection until I changed the bootlocal.sh file. Specifically the date as Paul mentioned. Nothing seemed to work unless I started with pCP 7.0. Once I did that, everything worked well with the exception of getting a good LMS file. Thanks for taking the time to help and have a great weekend. Howard Greg Erskine wrote: > Hi Howard, > > Did you set a static IP? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] How do i get permission to edit bootlocal.sh file
Thanks Greg, After many tries the 7.0 image seems to be working. I downloaded and installed AP Mode and finally after a few tries managed a good image of LMS. Apparently one was corrupted. So, as of this point I have everything I need. I edited the bootlocal.sh and it didn't wipe the card at restart. SO far it's working with just a few little changes left. I guess pCp 8.0 and up won't support some of what I needed Wish me luck. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] How do i get permission to edit bootlocal.sh file
Thanks Greg. I'm really beating my head against the wall on this. I just needed to update my existing server to use NTFS formatted drives but I can't download the extensions. So I thought I would take another image that supports NTF and do the change on the bootlocal.sh file but apparently that change doesn't work on pCP 8.0 or later so now I'm trying a new image from pCP 7.0 which does have NTFS and I can hit all the extension servers, but still can not upload LMS or AP Mode extensions. I've been working on this for three days. Ugh. Howard Greg Erskine wrote: > Sorry a typo, it should be "sudo" not "su". Win95. :-) I loved Windows 2000 for a long time. I learned the registry pretty well and took advantage of that. I ran XP right up until about a year ago when my processor gave up. I've run years without any overhead or even virus protection. Used RAM Disk and even Photoshop was really fast. Once I moved LMS to pCP and started down that road I've never longed for anything else. The community is pretty darn good and a lot of the plugins, etc are really great. BTW, the SD Card Image was a long time coming, but is really nice. SAMBA does work well. I use it it or network drives in Windows to copy/sync in FreeFileSync. SAMBA is handy to add just one song/folder/picture at a time. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
I do. I use separate folder for playlists, artist pics and lyrics. So I have mnt/Music, Artists/Lyrics and Playlists. I use FreeFileSync to sync them all after updating the main server. I also, just for fun, keep a backup on a separate hard drive next to my PC. pCP is great and the combination of pCP and pi is so easy. I have touch players all over the house and have replaced most of my Logitech devices including my Transporter. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
I have a bunch of players and have been on RPI's for a long time. I'm not a technical guy where this stuff is concerned so I try to keep it simple. I use a thumb drive to for both of my servers and the one in my car. Simple, clean and easy. I buy the smallest one I can. I only have about 300GB of music so seems like a good solution for you. If the created or modified date on the file has changed will it update it? When I update by music backup I don't sync files just because the created date changes. Respectfully, wouldn't it still need user intervention to decide what types of files you wanted to compare in order to do it as quickly as possible? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Any good plugins, or extensions, or "recipes" for synchronizing a music library?
Not to beat a dead horse, but one of the reasons I don't think you'll ever get this to be automatic and that I like FreeFileSync is, sometimes you only want to edit or add certain types of files. Maybe you've just added a few album covers or something like that. With FreeFileSync you can choose to update files according to size, date or time. Sometimes the fastest (size) is the only one necessary. You wouldn't be able to do that automatically. Howard jeroen2 wrote: > I've tried that but keep having problems with it. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Any good plugins, or extensions, or "recipes" for synchronizing a music library?
I use FreeFileSync to sync up 3 servers and a 4th hard drive. Works easily enough and takes no time except the wait if you have a large database. The fastest way for me is to remove the drive or USB thumb drive and sync it on a Windows machine using USB 3.X The 500GB thumb drive in my car isn't that accessible so I just use a ethernet cable and FreeFileSync to the server when it's in the garage. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer
Nothing clever. Two pi's. I split up the work between the two. One is a server and the other a player and then sync'd them. I wanted it to be similar to the Transporter. When it's off there's 9 days of weather on one screen and a slide show of album covers, artists and my photography on the other. The player feeds a AudioLab M-DAC+. The micro sd cards, ethernet and USB outputs are on the back of the player so it's convenient. I made the case out of 1/4" black acrylic. I've been A/B'ing it with the Transporter for about a week now. Pretty happy with it all in all. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer
I suspect not. Raspberry pi only certifies a few if not only one screen officially. Plus pCP and Jivelite aren't your run of the mill software. There is no routine to 'calibrate' the touch screen in piCorePlayer. Of course all of this is to the best of my knowledge which is limited. You can always give the OSOYOO screens a try if you can find them. I've got three of them and they all worked perfectly out of the box with the exception of rotating them 180 degrees. A bit nicer package too. Black edges. Nothing sticking out if you want to flush mount them. They don't give you a lot to go on. I don't even see a brand name to go to for support, but that would be something to try and find. The Transporter makes a heck of a pop when powering off or on. I either shut off my pre-amp or the power amp first. Unfortunately my speakers have a built in power amp for the sub and that pops too. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0
Good morning Ronnie. It was very late last night when I got the DAC working. I listened to it for a while and discovered that after 2-3 minutes of play it stops playing for about 1 second, stutters back and continues playing for another few minutes then repeats that process. More information. I'm playing almost exclusively FLAC files on a RPI4 running over Ethernet. I'm using a 5" touch screen displaying a VU meter. I mention that because when the music stops the VU freezes exactly where it is until play resumes. Maybe that's a hint. Anyway, I'm wondering where and what to look for to diagnose/correct the issue. I did read about the buffers in Jivelite and experimented with some of those settings, but none of that made a difference. Thanks once again for any light you can shed on this. I could load everything with pCP 7.0 and then insitu update to pCP 8.0 fine. But if I reset Jivelite I had to go back to pCP 7.0 and start over. Pretty much the only real choice with a 7" screen is Joggler. Loaded Jivelite and then went to set the Language and Joggler interface. When I set the interface the pi locked up. Tried this a few times and went back to LMS 7. Everything worked fine. Then I did an insitu update to 8.0 and things were fine with the exception of I could not sync players. Everything would play along fine for about 30 seconds and then stop. The Transporter would say buffering so I fooled around with the sync settings in LMS to no avail. I found that as long as I only sync'd two players together it worked fine. The 3rd one seemed to be the issue. But then I reset Jivelite and found once again on LMS 8 I could not set the Joggler interface. Went back to LMS 7.0 and everything, including multiple sync'd players works fine. No idea what this all means, but thought I'd report it. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Prebuilt picoreplayer?
Although...the screen is a super nice touch and an easy way to control the player right in front of it. And basically you attach it, go to "Tweaks" and add "Jivelite". Takes about as long to say as it does to do it. I'm afraid Jim might just have to bite the bullet and 'build' this himself. All the back and forth necessary to find out how he wants everything, including LMS settings, network settings, etc.would take a lot of time energy. In reality getting things set the way one wants them is where all the work is now. The guys who build pCP have it down. Pretty darn easy to build a player/server these days. [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite screen saver positioning
This may be the wrong place to ask...I would like to use the SDT screen saver, but I would like to position it more in the center of my 7" touch screen. Right now it is all at the top of the screen. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Prebuilt picoreplayer?
Hi Jim, Just my .02 cents. The thing that really makes the RPI players for me is piCorePlayer. I don't believe you will find a pre-built piCorePlayer. To slap one together using the official 7" screen, some sort of USB DAC is fairly easy these days. The WiFi and Bluetooth are built in. There are a plethora of decent cases (Get one with a fan) and if you're using a USB DAC the case choice is huge. To save a few $$ you can make a great player with the 3B+ and the 4 is on sale from RPI right now. Anyway, piCorePlayer is so versatile and LMS is also great. The two together are unbeatable in my book. Add Jivelite for the touch screen in piCorePlayer and you've got a great set up. I'm sure someone will add a lot more to the conversation, but good luck and have fun. Howard jimzak wrote: > I dipped into building picoreplayers when they first appeared. Shoot. One of my players has the nice red progress bar when doing an SD Card Image. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0
Another guess at this could be the network. Are you running it on Wifi? If it happens frequently you may try running it over Ethernet for a while to see if the behavior goes away. Jivelite will continnue to run on the player regardless of whether or not you have a network connection. And if you try to choose a player you will hang. If it running it over Ethernet fixes it then you just need to find out what's up with your network. Howard Clausi wrote: > I have those crashes frequently. Hi Greg, Not sure what might be filling the partition up. I assumed it was just normal stuff. One of the devices that has the issue is just a player. No LMS on it. I'll check the other two. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
I wanted to load an extension, but apparently there isn't enough room on the partition, which is 2000MB. If I resize it to full, then the backup takes forever. It's a 32GB card. Is there a way to increase the partition to something like 4GB? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer
Note sure, but I believe hiding it is your best best. Once you have your touch screen set up the way you want and all of the menus the way you want, be sure to go to Settings and then piCorePlayer to save your changes. The player will always start where you left off. I doubt any of your guests will now about un-hiding menu options. Don;t forget to "Hide" sync options too. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 5" Touchscreen display that works with Jivelite right out of the box.
You can drill acrylic. A sharp wood bit is preferred and a slow speed, with light pressure. For odd holes, etc., a dremel tool is your best bet and if you have one, a dremel stand helps stay steady and square. I use carbide bits and a fairly slow speed to put odd shaped holes in acrylic. Again, the hardest part here is to keep the tool from jumping. If you can secure the acrylic and use a dremel routing attachment, you can stop those issues. Same with drilling. If you can't put some wood behind the acrylic, make sure to secure it so it can't move of flip if the bit grabs. For holes I usually outline the area to be cut with masking tape. It's easier when your cutting to see the edge than if you are counting on seeing a line scribe on the acrylic. Experiment on a scrap piece to get the right speed. Once you get a little time with acrylic, it's easier than wood. jeroen2 wrote: > Thanks, that does look a lot easier than I thought it would be. I might > give it a try. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 5" Touchscreen display that works with Jivelite right out of the box.
Yup, the display goes in the front and then you can put a piece in to screw it to, but in my case it's such a snug fit I didn't have to. You can glue strips of acrylic to make sure it stays when you want it and you can make cross pieces to glue in the box to screw the screen to if needed. Cutting acrylic can either be done with a bandsaw or with two tools. One to score the acrylic and one to 'break' the score. Here's the scoring tool. $10 https://www.amazon.com/Fletcher-05-111-Scoremate-Plastic-Cutter/dp/B000LNJYNA/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1=acrylic+cutting+tools=1613154081=8-2 And here's the tool for 'breaking' the score. https://www.amazon.com/Fletcher-06-112-Lightweight-Nipping-Running/dp/B00DF3GPFI/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1=fletcher+gold+tip=1613154327=8-2 Quick set acrylic glue. You won't need a spying applicator. The brush works just fine. The stuff is so easy to use. https://www.amazon.com/Plastruct-Plastic-Weld-applicator-Bottle/dp/B00FDFWJD8/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1=Plastruct+Plastic+Weld=1613154416=8-1 Generally, acrylic can be found in a lot of places including Amazon. I bought the black sheets from Home Depot, but have bought a lot of acrylic from framing supply places, but that's mostly clear. Measuring is the key. And if you cut it a hair too big you can sand it down on a belt sander or even on a sheet of sand paper placed on a flat surface. Different grades of paper will dress up the edges if needed and you can even polish the edges with a dremel tool or a cotton wheel in a drill press. I started working with acrylic when I was framing photography and I have found a ton of good uses for it. I just built a laser goniometer the other day out of acrylic. Worked out really well. jeroen2 wrote: > That also looks very nice. Did you just stick the display to the front? > > > And how does that work with the acrylic? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 5" Touchscreen display that works with Jivelite right out of the box.
The upside down touch calibration confused me for a bit too. LOL I ended up just making a case out of black acrylic. If you have tools to cut the stuff with you can put one together fairly quickly. Plenty of room to hold the pi, etc.. The server is in there and I use the screen just as a display although it can be used to control the server too. 4 wtnh wrote: > I just got the 3.5" version working as well and noted the same thing > about the touch calibration being upside-down. So am I right that this will create a file the size of your entire SD card if you save the backup to your music file source (mnt/music/images)?
