Hi,
I'm very new in Hifi on raspberry. I bought RP4 and Digi2 pro to get a
digital network streamer to my stereo system (digital coax and toslink
input available).

But when I change audio output from headphones to Hifiberry Digi+ pro
squeezelite stop running and no player available in LMS and no coax
output.

What do I need to do?

Thank you

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 6.0.0

2022-01-09 Thread ALW

Hi all,

I came across a challenge today I haven't been able to resolve
elegantly, I'm using a Pi with the Cirrus Logic card and wanted to add
the -V command for hardware volume control for the headphone output (-V
"HPOUT1 Digital").

The full command string, which works if entered on the terminal, is:

/usr/local/bin/squeezelite -n "piCorePlayer" -o hw:CARD=RPiCirrus -a
80:4::1: -V "HPOUT1 Digital", the quotes are required around the control
name, owing to the space.

If I add -V HPOUT1 Digital to the additional settings on the Squeezelite
page, squeezelite won't start (for the reason above), so I tried -V
"HPOUT1 Digital" but that doesn't work either, I suspect because the
string is stored in the settings between a pair of double quotes, so
gets confused.

Single quotes can be used too, so appending -V 'HPOUT1 Digital' also
works on the command line, but prevents Squeezelite from starting when
entered in the additional settings box for reasons I can't decipher (I
can't get Squeezelite to produce a log file).

As a temporary workaround, I've left squeezelite in a non-starting
condition and instead added the full Squeezelite command on the Tweaks
page under User Commands, which works fine.

I've tried escaping characters with no joy, does anyone know how to
enter the following option in the web interface so it works correctly?

I suspect most cards don't have spaces in their control names, so this
isn't a common issue!

Thanks for any advice!

Andy.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 6.0.0

2021-12-05 Thread ppmoore

Hello,

I installed PCP v6.0.0 last year on a RPI 4, and since then I've had
very few problems with it. Initially there were some instabilities,
which were solved with inpuit from this forum to create a cronjob to
reboot the player once per week. Since this morning after the latest
weekly reboot, I see the following message on the screen
> crond[499]: time disparity of 27311719 minutes detected
I assume that PCP failed to retrieve the correct time, and that it
defaults back to the 1970 epoch.

During startup, the PCP splash screen is displayed, it then reaches the
point where "Setting keymap to us home" is displayed. This screen is
then cleared and the cron error message is displayed
I assume that the SD flash is still good, otherwise it would be
completely bricked.
36345

I have some basic Linux admin knowledge, so I know how to navigate my
way around the file system.
I can ping the PCP, so basic IP connectivity is working. However, I
cannot use ssh or tftp to log onto it, it is rejected.
I have attached a keyboard to the PCP, so I can execute some basic shell
commands.
I checked /var/log/, it contains only one file autologin with the epoch
date Jan 1, 1970.

The command crontab displays the following
> crontab -l
> crontab: can't open 'tc': No such file or directory

There is no sshd in /etc/init.d or /etc/init.c/services. However, there
is an entry for tftpd. When I try to start it
> /etc/init.d/services/tftpd start
> /etc/init.d/services/tftpd: line 9: /sbin/udpsvd: not found
> ls /sbin/udpsvd
> ls: /sbin/udpsvd: No such file or directory

Can I recover from this?
I've searched the forum, and found not many references to this problem.

It's probably time to update to PCP v8.0, but I've been putting it off
because I also have LMS installed on the same RPI, and would like to
first backup the LMS settings.

Many thanks,
Paul

That sounds like a network routing problem rather than a pCP specific
issue.

My guess is that a discovery packet being sent by your controller is not
getting through the network.

Can you ping the IP address of the pCP system from a device on the other
WiFi network?
If you can then can you tell your controller/player to use that IP
address rather than having it try to discover LMS.

The networking solution might well be as simple as turning off DHCP on
the 2nd access point.

The challenge is to determine if these are repeatable and if they are
then do they affect what you are listening to.
Both are related to playing something.
The lack of a timestamp in the output will make it difficult to work out
what you were doing but you might find something similar in the LMS log
and that will have timestamps.

not sure but guessing it's because rPi doesn't have a RTC so each

I think the VIM is very different from the Pi, so it is probably not
supported by piCorePlayer, but lets let the team chime in. Since the VIM
runs Ubuntu and other distros, there is a chance you could make it work,
but it might be dicey.

I do have a Tone 1 board connected to a Pi 3B+ running piCorePlayer 7

After some fiddling with settings it seems I solved the clicks problem,
thanks you all who participated!
Tested since a couple of days with PCM up to 192 and DSD64 (DoP) and
haven't noticed any problems so far.

So here are my setting to run TEAC UD-501 via USB from PI3B, might be
useful for somebody with same PI/DAC combo:

Output setting hw:CARD=UD501,DEV=0
ALSA setting 160:4::1:
Buffer size settings 2:6
Device supports DSD/DoP 250

250ms PCM to DSD delay was crucial to get correct click-free DSD
playback. Without this setting DAC surprisingly still plays, but
indicates the signal as PCM 352.8 and there are dropouts/clicks, with
the delay indication is DSD 2.8mhz

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 6.0.0

2021-03-27 Thread ppmoore

Hello All,

I've been using the piCP v 6.0.0 for nearly a year, and am very happy
with it. More important: my technophobe wife also likes it :)

It's installed on a RPi4 with a HiFiBerry DAC+. The LMS is also running
locally on the RPi, and this is used by my other two SB3s.

The only problem I have is that occasionally (about once per month) it
freezes. The only away to fix it is to reboot it using the device's web
page, or to pull the power. Is this a known problem?

Should I update to v7.0.0? I suppose if I overwrite the SD card, all
setting will be lost.
I've seen the option to update in situ using the web page. Does the full
update keep the current settings in this case?

Many thanks,
Paul

Damn, i wasn't aware of USB problems.

Regarding the tweaks, you probably mean FIQ-Split acceleration? The
other two (OTG-Speed and USB-FSM driver) specifically mention other
DACs, does it makes sense to try then as well?

Should those be tried in combination or alone?

Finings so far:

hw: with 80ms -> no improvement
hw: with 160ms -> less clicks, and the clicks are less noticable, but
not solved completely yet

With the RPI3, its likely the USB FIQ handler that is causing it. There
are things that don't work well with the older rpi usb ports.

There are some USB tweaks on the Tweaks page, you can try changing them
and see if it helps you.

The RPI4's have much better USB implementations.

Hope to find some help here.

I have a freshly assembled "piTouch" using PI3B with official touch
screen.

Connecting it to TEAC UD-501 from PI on board USB via good quality USB
cable.
Audio output device settings set to USB audio, Output setting to
"front:CARD=UD501,DEV=0", ALSA setting to " 80 4 nothing 1 nothing".
Other setting unchanged from default. Wired network.

TEAC is receiving and playing the data, but i get clicks, pops, dropouts
even with 44.1/16 material :(

Tried 64bit Picoreplayer, now on 32bit, tried different output settings,
different USB cables, went from 64bit to 32bit, problem still persists.

My old Squeezebox Touch with EDO plugin connected to same Squeezeserver
via same switch can play material up to 192/24 via SPDIF and toslink
without any issues at all, so it's unlikely a network issue I believe.

Any suggestions regarding the USB output setting for TEAC or how to
approach this to find the root cause?

Still waiting for the company who supplied the original board to offer a

definitely at fault. The HiFiBerry is working well on another Pi and I
used the piCorePlayer card on a new Pi and HifiBerry and it's working
fine.

As a last resort I would try reloading pCP. You can do an image backup
using the new routine or you can load it on to a second SD card. That
way if it's not the issue you're not out too much time.

Unless you have another pi lying about.

Good luck.

Thanks. I have actually just tested the card with another pi I have and
don't have the same issues - Squeezelite runs normally after I select

You could always try updating, patch update first and then full update

But my example is without the updates.

Generally that happens when the "Output setting" in Squeezelite is set
wrong. I'm not sure what you should be using, but you may try a few

Calibration of the touch with ts_calibrate will not work.

If I search for pointercal and ts.conf I find 3 different ones.

if I use ts_calibrate only the one in usr/local/etc/ is modified.

However it has no effect as I expect that piCoreplayer uses one of the
other files for calibration.
Or there is a bug in ts_calibrate

Can anybdy help?
I have starter level knowledge of Linux.

Thanks, Greg. I deleted the /home/tc/www directory, but it came right
back after reboot. I thought maybe I should do a backup before
rebooting, but of course now the web page is gone, so I can't use the

Thanks, I missed that. I take it this can be a standard SD card it
doesn't have to have Noobs/Rasbian pre-installed? I was thinking of
trying one of those preinstalled cards first and trying to install LMS
and Plex on it, then if I run into problems overwriting it with
piCorePlayer (for just LMS). I assume that's all feasible? This is all
new to me (windows and mac background).

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 6.0.0

2021-02-05 Thread DAR

I did an in situ update on a couple of my RP3s from PCP 5.0 to 6.1.0.
Everything seemed to go smoothly, but I am not seeing an updated user
interface on these boxes.

Here is the footer from the main web page for one of these devices
(i.e., no www):
33257

Here is a footer from the main web page for another device where I
installed 6.1.0 directly as an image (i.e., www v0009):
33258

Is there any way to force the new user interface to install (perhaps
from the command line)? Since this is the older interface, there is no
"patch update" option on the main page, and none of the other PCP update
options in the interface seem to do anything. Is it significant that
the squeezelite versions are different?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Why not just use a USB flash drive? 1 & 2 TB flash drives are now as
cheap as HDDs and work with pi.

I think if you login via ssh and remove
.jivelite/userpath/settings/SlimDiscovery.lua
while JiveLite is not running then I think it will force it to
reinitialise.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 6.0.0

2021-02-04 Thread NigelC

My pi, running pcp 6.1.0, + touch screen + iqaudio dac has been working
well for many months now, connected via ethernet. I have just moved the
player, and wanted to use the built in wifi rather than wired
connection. Ive enabled the wifi which connects to the network with no
trouble, and gets given an IP address. The LMS server can see the player
(on the wifi MAC address) However, each time I start the player, and
select My music it reports a problem connecting to the server. If I go
into the Choose Player menu, there are 2 entries for pcptouch (the
playername). If I choose the first it connects fine, and everything then
works OK. If I choose the second entry, it fails to connect. Im guessing
its trying to connect over the wired interface rather than wifi. All
this time, LMS can see the player on the proper wifi MAC address.

Any suggestions how I can remove the duplicate player so it doesnt need
manual input?

At the LMS server end, i have edited the server prefs and removed the
player associated with the wired MAC address, but this didnt change
anything at the player end.

Cheers
Nigel

Interesting. :-)
I saw the one with three red ports also, but I don't need the two other
red ports.

It is working even with two HDD on the other ports. The power adapter
seems to be good because the voltage doesn't drop under 5.1V what would
be a problem for the Pi.

The only difference in connecting the drives directly to the Pi is that
when shutting down the Pi the drives will still be running, as they are
still getting power from the hub. So they have to be switched off by
hand.

Ha - that's a coincidence. I bought the same hub (but with three red
power ports) a couple of weeks ago.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07RQZ3741

I haven't yet attempted to power the RPi from it, but I can certainly
vouch for it's ability to power several disks. I have my boot (flash)
drive in the top socket and a couple of 'spinning' hard disks in the
next two. The on/off push-buttons next to the sockets are a nice touch
too.

That sounds pretty neat.

So the hub acts as the common power supply for everything as well as
managing the data transfer between the Pi and the HDD

I have one idea how you can use a Pi 4 with a 2,5" HDD without power
problems. I didn't thought at this at first.

I am using this type of installation here for a Pi 4 which is used for
LibreELEC (Kodi installation) and two external 5TB 2,5" HDD.

The main part is this USB 3.0 hub:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07RL74YHZ
The hub is getting 12V with 2A from the power adapter. The Pi 4 is
connected to the red connector for power (USB-A to USB-C cable). The two
2,5" HDD are connect to the blue connections and one USB 3 port of the
Pi is connected with the USB 3 input on the small side of the hub.
So the two HDD are getting their power from the hub and also the Pi is
getting it's power from the hub.

I made many tests, even with three HDD and the voltage was always stable
so I never saw the yellow lightning in the top right corner of the
video.

All other tests with big external power supplies and both USB 3 HDD
directly connected to the Pi 4 result in the yellow lightning.

Probably any SSD should be ok but it's worth checking power consumption
before buying as they differ more than you would expect. Some that are
labelled "green" use more power than others not making that claim. No
real need to worry about performance.

I would not try to power a spinning disk from the RPI. But a SSD should
not be a problem..at least on a Pi4.

You could buy a Pi and official power supply (and micro SD card if you
do not have one spare) - but without a case and try it out.
Then choose what to do later.

Thanks for the replies. My library is 108GB and currently is on my
netbook and backed up on a couple of other windows PCs. I don't have a
NAS and in reality play almost all my music via the spotty pluggin to
LMS and fill in the gaps from my library when Spotify catalogue is found
wanting. I have no desire for a Pi Player just to run LMS.

I do have some old HDDs around that would accommodate the library and
was thinking of repurposing those in a usb caddy. At least one is 2.5"
so that £10 case you suggested looks great but it sounds like if i just
plug that into one of the PI's usb ports that's probably going to be
problematic.

Apologies if I posted this in the wrong place - first timer on this
