In the pCP web interface look under Tweaks/Audio tweaks - you can
disable autostart in there.

squeezelite starts automatically on boot, but is running as root. This
was a fresh install of 6.1, though I have now updated to 7. Assume this
is from some autostart entry, but not sure where to look. thanks

Yes capital C in that option. If you start squeezelite from anything
other than the interface that can happen.

Thanks! That was it. Killed the squeezelite process and tried. It worked
then.
Did you mean -C (in CAPS)?

I then realized that the pcp gui always reports squeezelite to be not
running, though a check on the terminal does show a running squeezelite
instance. That means that a restart of squeezelite from the webgui,
manually initiated or because one hit Save doesn't actually work. The
running backend process doesn't die. So to apply any changed parameters,
I need to kill the existing process from the command line, then hit Save
- squeezelite is then restarted with any changed parameters.
Sorry if this is OT for this thread, but wonder why this is so.

Volume is not relevant, the log entry is an old remnant from older
versions. Make sure your squeezelite is not playing when you are
trying. Squeezelite has to have released the Alsa hardware device.
When Bluetooth is installed, we automatically add the -c setting to
squeezelite.

Tried that, but didnt work.
So i tried pairing my phone to see if it would stream to PcP. To narrow
down the culprit. Sadly, the phone doesnt play either. I paired the
phone, went into the Bluetooth page on PcP, set it as player, saved,
disconnected and reconnected (checked out initiating the connection from
PcP and from the phone both). Neither worked.
Not sure why. here's the log snippet, let me know if more would
help.

Code:

Is it relevant that pCP ALSAVOLUME is null, and so is the volume field
at the end of the last line? If so, where/how does that get set? The pCP
plays local music, radio stations etc. with no intervention, so I know
the chain does produce sound from the speakers.

I think you would need to set it as type "Streamer" in pCP.
However, in my case I already have a streamer type ... it is a USB
audio-in card ... and I don't think pCP has out-of-the-box configuration
for a 2nd one (am looking).

Can an Echo, in general, act as a Bluetooth source?

I know that it can be connected to as a Bluetooth speaker - so you can
send audio from LMS to Echo.

some devices refuse to honor the pinless pairing request.

You will need to pair this device from an ssh session using
"bluetoothctl"There are examples in this thread somewhere, otherwise
just google it.

I think you have to set the "waitusb" time in the bootconfig (I don't
know the real name in the moment, but there is only one textfile with
this value) to a higher value, that's all. This file is accessible on
the USB stick.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 6.x.x - Bluetooth

2021-05-10 Thread Spev

Hi

First off, I've recently migrated from Moode to pcp/lms for home audio
management, so a big thanks for the software, impressed so far.

I have a question re bluetooth devices - when I connect my phone and
look in the paired devices list it defaults to "speaker", I'm just
wondering what the most normal use case for bluetooth is here?
Shouldn't the default be "player"? Otherwise I have to go into the
player config every time a phone connects to bluetooth and change the
device, which is a bit unwieldly. Certainly no one else in the house
would know to do that.

FYI, while I was testing bluetooth I couldn't get it to start unless the
wifi was also switched on. This is a pi 3B+ using the latest pcp
build.

Another FYI, I have another 3B+ with a damaged sd card slot, so it boots
from usb stick. I couldn't get the latest pcp build to boot at all, but
did manage to get the prior version to work.

Thanks

I guess neither do I? Unless I got that wrong. You have the software and
I have the hardware to test it but none of us has both.

Even if I had the money I don't really love the idea of having to add
another device or two between pCP and bluetooth headphones just to
listen to wireless bluetooth 'hifi' sound quality on headphones, however
much I crave that quality...
Also, pCP and bt headphones make for such a nice minimal setup.

And thank you for taking the time to explain this.

The SBC codec is the only one currently supported on pCP.

The source is here, https://github.com/Arkq/bluez-alsa the support
structure for AAC/APT-x/LDac is there, but functional libraries are in
question. I opted for the stability of the code, but the AAC support
library should be fine, I just have no way to test it.

Unfortunate.

So which *high quality* bluetooth audio codecs does pCP bluealsa
support? And which one(s) of these do you recommend? Would be good to
know before I consider buying new bluetooth headphones to get decent
sound quality.

It works now, for some reason. Great.

The sound quality is not very good though. I think it might be related
to the bluetooth codec pCP/bluez-alas is using.
I get
Code:

/usr/local/bin/bluealsa --profile=a2dp-source --profile=a2dp-sink
--profile=hsp-ag --profile=hfp-ag --a2dp-volume

which sounds like a2dp = SBC = lossy...

Since my headphones only support SBC and AAC do you know *how to force
AAC*? I'd like to try AAC to see if the sound quality is better.

Thank you, Paul.

Hey.

I'd like to stream music to my *Beats Solo headphones* via *bluetooth*
from my pCP:
- pCP 7.0
- Pi4 using on-board bluetooth
- no DACs or audiocards attached
- configured as player (no LMS)

I have no problem connecting the headphones, pairing works fine and they
show as *connected*.

But I couldn't make the headphones play anything so far, total silence.

I guess either these headphones are not compatible or I haven't figured
out *what Squeezelite settings I need to use*. Or I need to install some
extension?

If you have managed to listen to audio with pCP and your bluetooth
headphones which settings did you use?

Thank you.

Recent pCP (including pCP 7) can have a Bluetooth source.
When it is working you would see this on the Bluetooth page
"BT Pairing Daemon for incoming connections is running"
and you configure the remote device as a "Streamer".

I took a day longer, but now the „LogiLink BT0015“ arrived.
Is is also working out of the box, the transmission power seems to be
the same. But it is also not as good as my iPhone 11. Very strange.
I tested both Bluetooth transmitters directly attached to a USB 2 port
and with a 70cm USB cable away and with a 1,5m USB cable away. The
cables makes no difference in the radius where I can use the headphones.
Also strange.
When I put my hand completely over the USB transmitter there is also no
change in reception. But when I put my hand over the right side of the
headphone (there is the receiver) the sound stops. Also strange.

I tested also what happens when I go outside with the headphones. There
is a big window with double glazing between me and the Pi and the
reception is not really good. When I tested this with my iPhone 11 as
sender it worked without a problem.

I will stay with the LogiLink as it has apt-X support although my
headphones have not. But maybe I will have one in the future.

I've not tested any BT5 dongles. As long as they are linux supported,
it should work fine. Just be sure to disable the RPI bluetooth.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 6.x.x - Bluetooth

2021-01-30 Thread carsten_h

Hello!

As my new headphones seems to have a not so good receiver as before
(same manufacturer) and also the receiption wasn‘t good at some places
with the old ones, I think I need an external Bluetooth transmitter for
the Pi.
Is there one Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter known that has good transmission
features that works together with piCorePlayer?
I saw a few ones with Bluetooth 5.0 that only working with Windows and
not with Linux or macOS.

Is it better to connect such a transmitter with an extension cable to
the USB port of the Pi?

Do I have something to do to use it in piCorePlayer as there is then a
second Bluetooth device. Or is it enough to disable the internal one?

Hello

I just finalized to upgrade to last PCP 7, last LMS, jivelite,...etc...
All is working perfect, thanks to the developpers

As I changed my smartphone from IOS =>Android Galaxy, no Airplay
possible anymore.
I wanted to use bluetooth to allow Android mobile to send music to
PCP/LMS

I insert a BT dongle laying around, install the libraries, apply last
patches. It seems to be properly detected. But impossible to pair with
my galaxy. This stupid phone asked for a PIN. I tried or 1234
without success

same behavior with my laptop windows 10

any idea to debug ?

Only when I try to synchronize main squeezelite with bluetooth instance

If you have a working IR setup with a squeezelite wired dac, then the
bluetooth session will use the same IR commands. As for setting up IR
from scratch with squeezelite, I've not done that. But it should be
nothing more than setting up LIRC and then telling squeezelite where to
find the configuration file.

I'm trying. I have made simple GPIO IR set (receiver and pilot set by
irrecord) and it's working pretty well but only with "regular"
piCorePlayer Squeezelite instance. The way to control headphones bt
player instance is to sychronize it with main squeezelite player. But it
is not an elegant option. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or I do not
know something? Maybe it is the lircrc file problem?

Code:

begin
  remote = omtmp
  button = KEY_PAUSE
  repeat = 0
  prog = Squeezelite
  config = pause
  end
  begin
  remote = omtmp
  button = KEY_PLAY
  repeat = 0

  config = play

No. Not saying never, but there is a significant amount of interfacing
required to do that, since commands need to be sent to LMS, not just

I have a Bose Soundlink Mini II BT speaker that I use in my kitchen.
Normally it is paired with one of the RPiZeroW's that I have running
half of my Living Room speaker systems. (Closest one) I also have it
paired with my Family Room system and it will switch between connections
when I move it out of range of the Living Room or press the BT pairing
button on the speaker. The speaker just shows up in the LMS player list
and stays synced pretty well. It works well enough to stay connected to
the Family Room even when I go to the basement.

Current:
Windows 10 - LMS Server 7.9.3 8TB RAID 10 Media Drive
Office - Windows 10 - Squeezelite-X
Living Room - 2x RPiZeroW w/ Allo MiniBoss each running a Logitech Z623

In the end I got a Samsung Galaxy 5e tablet, and it paired OK with PCP,
but when I tried to control the volume, the vol bar moved up and down
but the PCP output didn't change, unless the vol was at zero when it
muted. The vol varied fine with a normal BT speaker.
I then found out about BT Disable Absolute Volume control in Developer
options and after I'd disabled this (and toggled BT) the vol control
then worked.

Any ideas why this is necessary?

Does anyone know how to debug these BT disconnections?

To recap I'm using an Android tablet (LineageOS 17.1) to connect to PCP
as a BT speaker, but occasionally sound is silent, so I check the PCP UI
and the connection is unticked, and so I have to Connect it again from
PCP, whereupon the BT connection is shown as Active on the tablet and
the BT speaker works again. I'm on PCP v6.1.0 | www v0009 | linux
4.19.122-pcpCore_v7 | piCore v10.3pCP | Squeezelite v1.9.6-1206-pCP.

Interestingly I've never used a BT speaker before that has an interface
whereby one can connect to the source, all the connections are normally
done by the source.

If it’s paired, it has a “Player Name” shown on the Bluetooth page. Go

Some settings on the squeezelite page do apply, they are common for all
squeezelite instances on the same device. For example server does
apply.

At the very least, could you improve the web interface to make it
clearer ? For example, it currently says for the Scan button:

"Scan for Bluetooth devices. This will Scan for Bluetooth devices, make
sure the device is in pair mode."

how about "This will Scan for Bluetooth devices, make sure the device is
in pair mode. If you pair with a Speaker, a new Squeezelite player
instance will be created, by default named with the Bluetooth device
name of the speaker, and settings from the main Squeezelite page do not
apply".

And then on the main Squeezelite page, put something on there to make it
clear that none of it applies to Bluetooth. (unless some of it does??)

I don't now. I read about this in this forum, phillip told me.
Correct it is a complete seperate instance. If you control with an
android app, you must select the bluetooth instance which you had
coppled, not the squeezelite instance.
I had the same problem...

Ah. This gave me the clue. I hadn't realised that it sets up a whole

I'm trying to connect a Bluetooth speaker. I've got as far as installing
the bluetooth stuff, turning it on and have successfully paired the
speaker. But I can't work out how to actually connect the speaker up to
squeezelite.

In the squeezelite audio output menu there's no option for bluetooth.
Is there some other way it's supposed to be selected ? I've also
tried selecting what looks like it might be the right device in the
"output setting", but that just gives an error message. See screenshots
attached.

pCP is setup for pinless pairing, but your device obviously does not

Squeezelite cannot start until the Bluetooth device is connected. So
you are in a catch22. You can initiate a connection from the pCP web
interface, that would start squeezelite automatically.

Bluetooth and WiFi share the same frequencies. The RPi folks have tried
to get Broadcom to make them work together. But not much luck over the
years. If you can move your WiFi to 5GHz frequencies you will have
much better results.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 6.x.x - Bluetooth

2020-10-31 Thread nickhews

My Rpi4 runs the latest versions of pCp and LMS (as at 30.10.20), and
works fine over my main system and speakers, but not with my BT
headphones (B PX), where I experienced lots of sound dropouts, and
periods where it would not even connect to the Rpi4/pCp (would not pair,
or would not put a name into 'Player Name', or would not show up in
LMS).
After many hours trying a lot of the potential solutions on this site,
including using ssh and the Bluetoothctl functions, it was a
combination of 2 things that resolved the issues.
One is frequently referred to here – get a new SDcard! This was done
first, and sorted the problems with getting and maintaining any BT
connection at all. I do not know why this should be the case but am
convinced that it was a major factor, and as it was done prior to the
change below, I do not think they were directly related. I should also
say that I wrote a clone of the original card to the new one – not a
wholly new download and installation.
I now had faith in the basic BT configuration but was still suffering
sound dropouts, so my 2nd step was to move the BT source (the Rpi4)
further into the room (still about 2.5 metres away) and point it's
BT-chip end towards my listening position. Success! I have had no
dropouts over the last few hours of headphone use, and the 'phones have
re-connected easily to the Rpi4 after short periods of non-use. I will
experiment further to try and identify the cause of the dropouts, partly
because I can't leave the Rpi4 where it is forever.
Thank you to all the other contributors to this forum, because without
this support I would probably have given up!

You can try to do it from an ssh session. Take a look at this post.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 6.x.x - Bluetooth

2020-10-22 Thread Thorden

Hi, and thanks for the effort of this great software!

I just installed a Pi 3+ with piCorePlayer (latest stable).
Planned to replace an old Receiver connected to a Samsung AKG VL5
speaker.
So I wanted to connect the pi using BT, but that seems to be difficult.
The player finds the speaker, but is not able to pair.

I have tried some other BT devices too:
1) Samsung The Frame TV: Not able to pair
2) Samsung Galaxy buds: pi does not discover them
3) Logitech Z600 speakers: All good, plug and play.

And then the AKG VL5, discovered but fails paring with this message:
[ INFO ] Attempting to pair [AV] Samsung AKG VL5, CC:6E:A4:E5:F8:6D
[ ERROR ] Device failed to pair. Forcing device removal.

BT log (Is there a way to see a log of the pairing attempt?):

Thanks!

It does not currently support LDAC.

BlueAlsa (The software driving Bluetooth Audio) does support LDAC,
however, I do not have any hardware that supports it to do development.

Does piCorePlayer Bluetooth support Sony's LDAC codec? It would be great
to connect my Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones to my Raspberry Pi 4
running piCorePlayer. If not is it possible to implement this in the
future?

Thanks.

Version info is in 2 different spots...one of these days, I'll fix that.
The only update was to the speaker daemon, so you are fine.

I think that there is a minor issue with this update. After updating the
bluetooth extension on the pCP Bluetooth setup page, the extension build
number still shows v0012.
See screenshot below. Extension build shows v0012, while pCP BT Speaker
Daemon shows v6.0.0.0013.
